Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight in the UK

cabbage is surprising how much a little bit every day helps. Even just keeping up on the dishes makes a difference. I'm hoping your morning sickness won't last long. Enjoy time off with your DW.

Mc I need to spend more time in my Jeep also. I know I have random stuff under the seats. I just got an organiser for the back but I've not opened it yet 🤦‍♀️

main I think it's a lot of the same because usually there's only a couple of days in the living room, this month we had a full week. I would think that if all the fires are out, so something else in that room, like cleaning glass (mirrors, windows etc.) as I think that makes a huge difference. Washing blankets that live there, detailed dusting etc. Or, if that room is okay, spend some time in a different room.

Last night I was supposed to go out with a friend for dinner and drinks for my belated birthday, but she had something come up last minute so had to cancel 😞 I ended up going out with DH & DS to the same restaurant anyway so it was still a nice night out.
We have a brisket we are trying in the smoker, woke up extra early to put it in there, went back to bed. We're now worried that it'll be done for lunchtime instead of dinner tonight!

Yesterday at lunchtime I had a laser treatment done on my legs to remove spider veins, they've been bothering me for years, I'm glad I finally got them done (the treatment was cheaper than expected). I now have to wear compression socks for the next few weeks!

Plan for today is:
☕️ shower, dressed etc.
☕️ take DD shopping (clothes & food)
☕️ grocery shopping (for dinner tonight & brunch tomorrow)
☕️ get food ready for dinner tonight
☕️ make sure DS mops floor in kitchen and dining room
☕️ LOLs
☕️ finish putting Easter decorations out

But first, I need my 2nd cup of coffee!

@HazelNotHungryLC that makes sense, and I did think about doing something else instead (cleaning the windows) but then decided I couldn’t be bothered and spent time with family instead!

Shame about your meal out but I’m glad you still got to go out.

Hope the compression stockings aren’t too uncomfortable and enjoy your new legs!

@CabbageBearGoat I really hope you don’t feel sick for too long, it’s such an awful feeling. With dc4 I had hg and it lasted right up until he was born at 42 weeks 😭. I’m seriously impressed you’re even managing to keep on top of the basics and those are the things that actually make the most difference imo.

@Hemax1 what my children do (don’t do) is a touchy subject! My older dc had chores from a young age; tidying their own rooms, clearing the table after dinner, wiping the table, sweeping around the table after meals, taking the bins out etc. As teenagers they did not keep their rooms tidy so I said I wasn’t going to clean them because I had to spend over an hour tidying up before I could even clean. So they had to also dust and vacuum them once a week. The helping after dinner has fizzled out because they both work evenings, go out with friends etc so it got to the point where one or other of them was constantly trying to get out of doing anything to help because “x didn’t do it yesterday because they weren’t here” etc.
So basically they do the bare minimum in their bedrooms once a week and in between live like they’re on hoarders and they also help take the bins out once a week.

As a result of the difficulties with trying to get them to do anything to help I don’t really ask my younger ones to do anything other than tidy up their own stuff and put their own dirty clothes in the wash basket.

I’ve just searched messy bedrooms and (excuse the daily mail) the rooms in this article have nothing on my teenagers! It’s disgusting. The only reason they clean them at all is because I’ve told them I’ll charge them £20/hour to clean it for them if they don’t sort it out.

Frustrated parents share their children's untidy bedroom horrors

Campbell posted a tweet to his 141,300 followers on Monday showing the teenager's untidy room adding that the mess had 'really p*****' him off.

I agree Character those messes look like they've been deliberately made or just stuff not put away after returning home

The thought of the vein surgery makes me squirm Hazel, hope it didn't hurt much. Happy birthday, too! 🎂

Happy Easter everyone ✨🥀🐇🐣

HazelNotHungryLC · 31/03/2024 15:38

Happy Easter everyone! 🥚🐣🐥🐇🐰🌷

I can run the thread for April if no one else wants to. April is a quiet month for us and it'll be good for me to get back into routine after the craziness of March!

Ditzy thankfully the laser treatment is pretty painless. There's no numbing so I could feel if she was burning me, other than a few bigger veins feeling like they were being pricked with a needle, it really wasn't too bad and the discomfort didn't last at all. The compression socks aren't bad at all either.

character that's so hard to deal with re teenagers. It's true, as they get jobs and home less it's harder to have them help as much. As long as they are cleaning up after themselves still I would be okay with it, but would draw the line at picking up after them. My view is when they move out and have busy lives they will still need to keep on top of their housework.

Growing up I was the baby, the only girl, spoiled. I didn't have much I needed to help with around the house, except dishes after meals and keeping my room clean and tidy (mostly tidy).
When I moved out at 18 I had no idea how to start the washing machine and had to have my mum come over and show me! It was embarrassing and vowed to make sure my kids knew how to do everything to keep a house running as they grew up. Thankfully, DH was on the same page as me!

I should probably start by getting dressed and ready for the day though!
I hope everyone is having a great Easter and will start the new thread later. 🍒👋

HazelNotHungryLC · 31/03/2024 22:18

Well, meal planning and grocery shopping are not going to happen today. It's currently snowing, and will continue for another couple of hours. I'm not impressed by any means 😡

I have got everything else done, other than groceries, including rotating DW. DH said he's going to run the vacuum in a little bit. ILs came over with their dog and he sheds like crazy, worse than our two! We love him though so he's always welcome 😍
