Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight in the UK

Wow @HazelNotHungryLC you are super talented! Such a beautiful cake.

@Upsadiddles you've been busy!

Thank you all! I cheated and got all of the decorations from Amazon (for the room & the cake), I do love how pretty it all turned out though.

Ta Das:
🫖 meal planned (but didn't go grocery shopping)
🫖 LOLs x4
🫖 laundry put away
🫖 sorted out random stuff in the laundry room, mainly gift bags and wrapping paper
🫖 handwashed dishes & put away
🫖 cooked dinner & got my lunch ready
🫖 rotated DW
🫖 tried out teeth whitening strips
🫖 painted my toes and fingernails

I'm currently enjoying a cup of bedtime tea before I start getting ready for bed.
🍒👋 to everyone, maybe tomorrow I can do a proper catch up of the thread.

TheMainCharacter · 04/03/2024 06:41

Monday is home bleurgh

Today we are in zone 2, the kitchen. Today’s mission is to clean down your small appliances. Get the crumbs out of the toaster, remove fingerprints from the microwave, get rid of the crust on your coffee maker or kettle. That kind of thing. Remember to set your timer for 15 minutes.

Today’s baby step is to read the fly lady message and to write post it notes reminding you to get dressed to shoes and to shine your sink and stick them up in the relevant places.

Love the cake and décor Hazel. Also envious of your pots and pans shelf/hanging arrangements. Hope you have a lovely time at the birthday celebrations

🏅 For Up. You deserve it after achieving all that

Welcome to the thread Mariette

I've been decluttering a bit and washing all the winter blankets prior to putting them away for summer, keeping up with routines and trying to figure out what to do with 2024

CabbageBearGoat · 04/03/2024 13:16

Glad to be in the kitchen zone this week. I've added in the conservatory to my app zones as I feel ready to start keeping on top of that too now. Really starting to feel the difference in the house even though we're a long way off the sort of "showhome/Instagram" houses. I don't think that's a reasonable goal. I'd just like it to feel less dusty/cluttered and we're getting there!

Today's wins:
🎉 Morning routine
🎉 Swept conservatory floor
🎉 Wiped out cutlery tray
🎉 Put away washing up
🎉 Bought more coffee machine descaler
🎉 Used our "deep clean only spray" on hob backsplash and hob itself
🎉 Rubber brushed hallway (surprised DW and I have any hair left with the amount that comes up!)
🎉 Admin phonecalls for work

CabbageBearGoat · 04/03/2024 13:21

Ps, a confession. Sometimes I write things on the wins list that I'm about to do and haven't strictly completed yet. So when I write my wins list sometimes I think "oh that's not much really, I have time now though" and so I think "ok what can I do right now that needs doing" and then I write it down on my list, post, then put down my phone and immediately do the thing. It fuels me doing it because I k think "I can't NOT do it because I said had already and that would be lying so now I must fulfil my promise to my thread buddies". Hasn't let me down yet. Currently letting the hob cleaner sit for five minutes while I write this. Maybe it's an AuDHD hack 😁

Tuesday is plan and play

Today’s mission is to deal with all the dirty dishes; get them washed, dried, and put away. Then shine your sink!

Today’s baby step is to be kind to yourself. Write down any negative voices you hear in your head and counteract them with something positive

It's surprising how motivating adding things to your ta da lists can be! It can also motivate others to do something they keep forgetting about/ putting off/ don't even think about doing.

Ditzy my parents had a shelf for their pans so we stole the idea! It's just a plain wooden shelf that DH added hooks underneath. It works like a charm! I would love to have it in my kitchen instead of the dining room area, but there's no wall space. Thankfully it's all open plan.

You all have been so busy! I did nothing yesterday. Even dinner was leftovers! I did manage to do a weight lifting workout with DH & DS though, after work. We are planning to alternate with yoga - DHs idea!

Ta Das:
☕️ dressed & some makeup on
☕️ took DS to school
☕️ 1st cup of coffee drank

It's almost 8am here, I do have a few things I must get done today. We have a technician coming out to look at the furnace as it's not always kicking on when it says it is (most likely the sensor needs to be cleaned). I'm not sure when he's coming though!

TheMainCharacter · 05/03/2024 15:54

Main tada for the day
⭐️visit another nursing home and revisit the favourite and decide that the favourite is definitely the right one. Feels like a huge load off.

OP posts:
TheMainCharacter · 05/03/2024 15:58

@HazelNotHungryLC yoga and weights are apparently two of the best things you can do to future proof your body as you get older. I’ve been thinking about incorporating some weights workouts but I’m a little bit lazy and scared of the pain 😳. Great that you’re all doing it together!

OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 05/03/2024 16:04

character that is a huge relief to have finally picked a nursing home 💐
We ended up splurging and bought a weight rack and bench, along with a bar and weights. We really have turned the closet/ workout room into more of a workout room (with my closet in there!). We got foam padding for the floor as well so it really looks the part now, and the new floor is protected.

HazelNotHungryLC · 05/03/2024 17:50

Ta Das (so far):
❄️ sheets in dryer
❄️ next lol in washer
❄️ vacuumed whole house, including stairs
❄️ cleared a couple hotspots

Still more to do, but will soon cook some hardboiled eggs for lunch (unless I change my mind on what I'm having, yet again!)

TheMainCharacter · 06/03/2024 07:04

Wednesday is anti procrastination day

Today’s mission is to fire fight in the kitchen. Tackle the hot spots and get all rubbish in the bin and anything that doesn’t belong back where it does. Set a timer for 15 minutes. If you need more time take a break then set the timer again.

Today’s baby step is to learn about hot spots and to spend 2 minutes practicing putting one out

Yesterdays tada
🎉 usual routines
🎉 dd2 gymnastics
🎉 caught up on some marking whilst at gymnastics
🎉 5 mins on kitchen counter declutter (I can't manage the 15 mins during the week but 5 mins seems manageable at the moment)

Chaoseverywhere · 06/03/2024 10:49

I’ve name changed to join this thread. I’d love to try it out. Have looked at flylady for about 15 years now and was once part of an online group but have never managed to get organised. I am now sure I have ADHD and I hope for a test and medication if possible.

I overwhelm myself with work and then cannot get motivated.

I have 4 children at home. 2 cats. My home is a tip

id like to be part of this community please!

CabbageBearGoat · 06/03/2024 10:52

Fire fighting in the kitchen today for sure. The advantage of a small galley kitchen is that there really is only space for dishes and appliances, so is "just" the washing up. In theory no decluterring needed. I've struggled with fatigue in my TWW so we've fallen into previous un-flylady habits. The morning routine stays strong, but dishes are veering towards chaos. Telling myself the fatigue is a good sign and maybe there'll be a BFP this weekend. Hoping to get back to Dish Zero today.

CabbageBearGoat · 06/03/2024 10:54

Welcome @Chaoseverywhere ! I have ADHD and have really loved fly lady so far. There's a neurodiverse mumsnetters talk board too with loads of info about seeking diagnosis etc

Hello !
joining the thread as I’m rediscovering fly lady after a break away from it ( hmm probs about 8 years or so ).

trying to get back into the morning routine as a starting point. House isn’t complete chaos but could definitely improve it !

so far today:
my morning routine is done ✔️
and just about to start afternoon routine.

I’ve amended the routines slightly to more suit us ( have added some bits in and taken out of this weeks kitchen the bits that don’t apply ).

looking forward to keeping accountable !
