Welcome to this long running thread, a lot of posters have been here a long time but all newbies and returners are very welcome, do join us!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - there are too many of them.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones in the house that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism! You may need to adjust the zones to suit your house.

Habit of the month of October is paper clutter http://www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/october/

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

• Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
• Tuesday: plan & play
• Wednesday: anti-procrastination
• Thursday: errand day
• Friday: clean car & purse out and date night (which can be anything you make it, night in, night with friends, actual dates are not always going to happen)
• Saturday: family fun day
• Sunday: renew your spirit - again whatever you make of it, but it is time just for you.

Common acronyms we use:

• LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
• DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
• LMS: lose/lost my shit
• DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I will try and update the links every day, but they do update automatically on the website so you can just click on the ones in this post.

Apparently the app is very useful too, I am going to try that this month, I know some are already using it.

Links are below 👇

Hi ED loving your new name!

Thank you for the new thread, and well done to pompoms for steering us through September. 💐

The month ahead looks a bit scary (not in a Halloween way 🤣) as the big decision I mentioned on the previous thread - re DH - well, I made it, and told him the other night. So maybe by the end of October he will have found somewhere else to live. In the meantime I’ll be trying to avoid awkwardness/blatant attempts at changing my mind, and trying to declutter and get on top of household routines because it feels even more urgent now (hence me posting about it, I need to remind myself why this is important!). I am veering between feeling really positive and absolutely terrified of starting over after 21 years, not to mention living without another adult for the first time ever, so my ta da lists may be even more erratic than usual!

DitzyDaffodils · 30/09/2023 23:32

Thanks for the new thread ED and to Pompoms for last month's

You've thought about it long and hard Sing so it's probably for the best. Being worried about all the changes is totally understandable. Fingers crossed 🤞 he moves out soon. Things might be tricky initially while you find your feet but emotionally the weight of the burden, of trying to decide, of telling him, of putting up with whatever aspects of the relationship weren't working, will lift and you'll feel free again 🕊️

I'm about to have a last minute go at reorganising something before I go to bed 💤

HauntingHazel · 01/10/2023 07:35

Thank you for the previous thread pompoms
Thank you for the new thread ED I love your new username also. Since we're now in October, I felt it was time to change mine too!

Sing that was a big decision to make, but a long time coming. It's not going to be easy, but I bet you'll be happier in the long run 💐

Time for me to go to sleep 😴 although I'm anticipating DD to text me in an hour to tell me she's home. I'm so tired. We have quite a bit to do tomorrow as well, with moving stuff around. I still have to do meal planning (I see a lot of soups in our future, sorry DH!), as well as a grocery pickup order. I'll need to make sure LOLs are done, as I'm not sure what can be done over the next few days!
I'm also itching to get some Halloween decorations up, even if I can't go all out like normal! I guess we'll see.. 🐈‍⬛🦇🕸🕷🎃👻☠️🤡

InAndOutOfTheRedBalloon · 01/10/2023 09:09

Morning all, thanks for last month's thread @partypompoms and this month's @EfficientlyDecluttering . Loving the name, wish I could get on top of it!

@SingToTheSky you've done a hugely brave thing in making your decision. I hope things only improve from here.

@HauntingHazel I'm sorry the next two weeks are so full on, and that DD is struggling. Hopefully you can see the light at the end of the tunnel soon.

@DitzyDaffodils how did your one-last-late-nignt-declutter go?

I am nearly back at ramming speed.

YesTaDa
❤️ short walk (sat down)
🧡 picked apples from the garden (sat down)
💛 made apple and quince pie filling (sat down)
💚 made sweet shortcrust pastry (sat down)
💙 made pie (sat down)
💜 made mushroom soup (sat down)
❤️ survived dinner with 3 menfolk grumping about the football result (we was robbed, apparently)
🧡 went to bed at 8pm having worn myself out cooking

I am taking today quietly as DH and I are going on a anniversary jolly this evening to see Muse at the O2 (24th wedding anniversary was last Monday) and I want to marshall all my energy. I probably need to set up October properly in my diary, though.

EfficientlyDecluttering · 01/10/2023 09:41

Thanks all, and a big thanks to Pompoms for last month. Re the name, I do change it frequently, I did think about a seasonal “EerilyDecluttering” but before I changed my mind wandered and I forgot.

Today is Sunday, which is Renew Your Spirit Day, I am renewing mine by popping up to see DS at uni with a few things he forgot and to take him out for lunch (it’s not that far).

Tomorrow we will be moving into Zone 1 properly, another useful link which annoyingly I forgot to put in the OP is the Sneak Peek for the week here

http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php

so you can plan ahead for the week. Remember the missions are optional, if you are still deep in clutter it’s best to concentrate on that while building the babysteps.

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋
Thanks @EfficientlyDecluttering for the new thread.
@SingToTheSky wishing you strength for what's to come.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to wish me well.
Still no TaDas from me, I'm having a very rare lie in and DP has sorted the menagerie out for me.
My ToDo today is to tidy and clean my front room, downstairs hall and the stairs so that I don't die of embarrassment when the BT engineer comes tomorrow 😄.
I had thought that October would be the month I'd get synchronised with the Fly routines, but it's not looking likely, plus when I'm feeling fitter I'm off to help with child card again as my granddaughter's nursery is still closed.
@InAndOutOfTheRedBalloon have a lovely evening!

CherryogDog · 01/10/2023 09:49

@EfficientlyDecluttering like I said, I'm always out of kilter with the routines 😄, I'll just pretend today is Monday!

InAndOutOfTheRedBalloon · 01/10/2023 10:47

Sorry to hear the nursery is closed, @CherryogDog , but lovely that you get to spend time with your granddaughter ❤️. Hope your lie in is deeply satisfying.

I have been reading the thread by the lady who is struggling to keep her flat tidy / declutter family things, and I am suddenly all gung-ho to Put Stuff Out. Some books and mugs are going into a box today and if I can live without them, they're going OUT.

SingToTheSky · 01/10/2023 10:59

Oooh balloon I’m jealous, I haven’t seen Muse since I was pregnant with DD1!

Thanks for the the well wishes lovely Fledglings. I hadn’t planned to mention it until things were a bit more concrete like who goes where etc but understandably it’s affecting every decision I make about stuff and it felt impossible not to say it in this lovely safe space 💐

I am trying to make the most of my nice health centre before it closes next month so I went for a swim this morning and sat in the steam room for a while. Next up is shopping for warmer work clothes, and hoping I have the energy for at least a little decluttering later.

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/10/2023 12:46

Thank you for the new thread ED
Thank you for leading the thread last month Pompoms

Being pulled in more directions then I know, with no energy and no motivation. Will have to see what happens this month. I have declutter/moving stuff deadlines so that we can hopefully get some answers on the path forwards of the building work.

InAndOutOfTheRedBalloon · 01/10/2023 14:15

❤️ Books moved off bookshelf
💛 gap filled with other homeless books on the TBR list (ahem 🫣)
🧡 Mugs cupboard filleted
💚 hummus made
💙 kitchen calendar updated
💜 ravening horde fed

HauntingHazel · 01/10/2023 14:35

Well I'm up. I got up just before 7am, so I've already fed the dogs and drank one cup of coffee.
It is pouring down with rain here, which always worries me, since we have a hole in the side of our house with just plastic up right now, 😟 so worrying about that has kept me awake, and of course I'm waiting for DH to be awake before I go explore in the bedroom that would be affected, as the noise of the rain would wake him up!
I'm so tired, it ended up being a late night last night and it didn't have to be 🤦‍♀️

Anyway, we have a busy day ahead so an early start isn't a bad thing. It's supposed to rain all day long so I see a movie in our future also!
Hopefully I'll be back with some ta das soon 🍒👋

Searchingforsunnydays · 01/10/2023 14:52

Hi all ,

Thanks for last months thread @partypompoms and for this month's @EfficientlyDecluttering !!

Apologies I haven't been active on the thread , I've been keeping up with some of the routines and decluttering however I've been quite poorly with a cold (that feels very much like covid) and I'm still suffering with breathlessness so I've been resting quite a bit !

@SingToTheSky you have been thinking of this for a while , I hope you feel lighter now that a final decision has been made and sending you strength for the next month or so while he finds somewhere to live 💐

DomesticElf · 01/10/2023 15:42

How is it October already?!
Sing congratulations on making that decision. Here is to fresh start 🍷
Pompoms thank you for leading the last thread! And yes, fish are faffy to keep. ED thank you for starting October ☺️
Balloon sending all the energy your way, enjoy your anniversary frolics!

Flying has been slightly detailed by an unwell child here. Hopefully he is on the mend and will be back to his usual mischief in no time.

DitzyDaffodils · 01/10/2023 15:45

Balloon the grand sum of my decluttering was one thing, I had two similar so kept my favourite and let the other one go. Better than nothing

JewelleryCat · 01/10/2023 16:01

Thanks for the new thread 🙂

Not done that much today, been finding it a bit hard but hopefully I’ll get my mojo back tomorrow and start again

HouseorHome · 01/10/2023 16:30

Hi everyone! I would like to get back to 'flying' - did this years ago and the time is definitely right to start again. I'm in a rut. Before I write anything else - I'm going to go and do 20+mins of something productive...

SingToTheSky · 01/10/2023 16:39

Welcome house that’s a good way to start!

Cat being able to jump back in after a bad day is really good 💐

I have been very sleepy this afternoon thanks to waking up early, so I’m just listening to music. Need to get up and do some stuff really or I won’t sleep tonight.

po3.1
❗️Check drying and put away along with previous stuff
❗️Find a tub and hand wash some stuff
❗️Remove chipped nail varnish and file nails

JewelleryCat · 01/10/2023 17:03

Sing I’m hoping to, it’s just hard sometimes but fingers crossed that tomorrow is a better day 🙂

HouseorHome · 01/10/2023 17:13

Thanks Sing!
Managed to do some tidying, get clean bedlinen on, put LOL on and I'm back here already.
PO3 (to do):

  • Clear and Clean desk
  • Vacuum upstairs
  • Basic clean bathroom
HouseorHome · 01/10/2023 18:49

Clear and Clean desk ✅
Vacuum upstairs ✅
Basic clean bathroom ✅

That feels MUCH better - also took dog for a walk (10K+ steps done today now) and had a shower. I am 90% sure that I wouldn't have done this without posting in this thread - so thank you for this thread!

Going to finish off the day with making dinner, packing tomorrow's lunch and clearing up kitchen afterwards.

DitzyDaffodils · 01/10/2023 20:09

Welcome House. You're off to a good start

I changed over to winter bedding today. Flipped the mattress too, the instructions said to do it weekly but stuff that! I'm still recovering. Got a bit of decluttering done

cosypompoms · 01/10/2023 20:22

Thanks for the thread. It's a relief for someone to take it over even though I enjoyed doing it everyday.

✅ half a home bleurgh as I'm out tomorrow
✅ made a roast
✅ hula hooping
✅ painted nails to renew my spirit.
✅ collected leaves for toddler group tomorrow
✅ sent H to tip with decluttering items
✅ 3 lols
✅ changed kids beds
✅ some items up in attic
✅ listed items on free cycle
✅ packaged Vinted parcel to post tomorrow
✅ lots of lovely board games with H and youngest. Lots of reading with middle one.

HauntingHazel · 01/10/2023 21:07

Welcome house it sounds like you're off to a good start

We ended up leaving the house, went to the next big town to get a few things, even though it is pouring outside still. We're on our way home now, after having lunch there.
We still have shifting of rooms to do, quite a bit actually, as well as laundry. I don't know how accessible the laundry room will be for the next few days, until the evening anyway.

I also ordered a huge Jack Skellington that moves, sings etc that'll arrive Wednesday. We should be able to put him up, but not sure where (so he's not in the way of workmen). We may have to wait until the roofers do their thing, not sure. He's really tall!
I may be a little too excited about him! 💀

EfficientlyDecluttering · 01/10/2023 22:38

Oh, my DD would love that @HauntingHazel , she is a huge Nightmare Before Christmas fan.
