Welcome to this long running thread, a lot of posters have been here a long time but all newbies and returners are very welcome, do join us!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - there are too many of them.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones in the house that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism! You may need to adjust the zones to suit your house.

Habit of the month of October is paper clutter http://www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/october/

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

• Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
• Tuesday: plan & play
• Wednesday: anti-procrastination
• Thursday: errand day
• Friday: clean car & purse out and date night (which can be anything you make it, night in, night with friends, actual dates are not always going to happen)
• Saturday: family fun day
• Sunday: renew your spirit - again whatever you make of it, but it is time just for you.

Common acronyms we use:

• LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
• DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
• LMS: lose/lost my shit
• DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I will try and update the links every day, but they do update automatically on the website so you can just click on the ones in this post.

Apparently the app is very useful too, I am going to try that this month, I know some are already using it.

haha @DomesticElf - it was DS (19)! DH almost certainly agrees although it has now dawned on him that we'll be spending £££ on carpet now, so has kept quiet.

I've made no progress so far today, despite getting up really early and using the carpet washer. It was a dog issue. Just getting it back to where it was before the issue...I'll spare you the details.

Morning all, you are all doing so well! I have been out for nearly the entire weekend (and every night last week) so it has been a bit minimal here, mainly basic routines, not much decluttering. DD has sorted out a big pile of her old dressing up clothes to go to the charity shop though, and a few DVDs, so that’s good.

http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60 - flight plan for the day is here, we are having a short spell in Zone 5, The Living Room, this month, our mission today is to spend 15 minutes getting rid of anything that doesn’t belong in there (the charity shop piles in our case). We also need to finish our Hallowe’en decorating tonight ready for trick or treaters tomorrow.

As it’s nearly the end of the month, would anyone like to volunteer to take over posting the links for November?

I am not managing to keep up with anything at the moment so I’m not ready to return to thread leading yet 😩

Been awake for ages but not done anything useful other than getting online to request a GP appt. Don’t even feel prepared for work, and the rain is reeeeally depressing.

I was away again so not much flying done. That sounds like I'm away all the time and I'm really not. Anyway came back this morning and it's not been my most productive day.

🍁 Unpacked and sorted fridge
🍁 Swept floors
🍁 Several lol folded and put away
🍁 Lol hung up to dry
🍁 Bathroom scrubbed

That's it so far and don't think there will be much else today. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I have something for work that I need to do that I am totally avoiding so I'm going to get up early tomorrow to make a start on it 🙈

JewelleryCat · 30/10/2023 17:15

Thanks Sing

I got a lot of rubbish out in to the bin so that’s my success for today

EfficientlyDecluttering · 30/10/2023 18:14

I got home from work at about 5.

Tada!
Washing on
Cats fed (and one tabletted)
Clean teatowels etc folded and put away
Pile of stuff sorted for the charity shop

ED I can run the November thread if no one else can.

YesTaDas:
👻 1 lol done (I should have done more, but was busy with other things)
👻 DH & I cleared off the pool table, putting things into new totes we just got
👻 vacuumed (& broke the vacuum 🤦‍♀️) I have a new one but don't want to use it until the new carpet is installed
👻 bleached bathroom
👻 cleaned mirror in bathroom
👻 made cheesecake for work
👻 watched another Harry Potter

DomesticElf · 30/10/2023 21:09

Hazel I love Harry Potter. Must re-read it again.
ED Getting medicine into animals and small children is usually a big achievement!
Born that's a pretty good Ta Da list.

I finally reclaimed the house. Home bleugh done. Finally managed to get rid of all the blooming cardboard boxes, it took several runs to the recycling centre. Now need to focus on more deep cleaning with the zones.

House buying is progressing at glacial pace, but I am starting to look at removal companies again.

HauntingHazel · 31/10/2023 03:48

Elf I'm ashamed to say I've never actually read the books, just watched the movies. However, DD has the full set of books and I've asked to borrow them, I should be getting them this weekend ⚡️

Ta Das:
🦇 worked all day
🦇 rearranged some furniture back to its location (we're having to move things in the main living area for the painter)
🦇 cooked dinner
🦇 played a few games of pool with DH (it's been a long time)

I just made myself a hot toddy. This cough I have doesn't want to let up! The hot drink does help for sure.
After my shower, but before bed, we'll need to move more furniture around in the living room, mainly the heavy TV. We're actually wanting to rearrange the living room once the painting gets done. I've been wanting to do that for months, DH, however, hasn't (but he does now!).

My day off is tomorrow, not entirely sure what all is happening at the house, other than painting. I'm going to spend time in the basement, doing laundry and watching movies (Hocus Pocus, Nightmare Before Christmas, Halloween Town etc.)

EfficientlyDecluttering · 31/10/2023 07:21

@HauntingHazel I’ve never read them either, but DD is HP obsessed and got me to listen to the audio books last year (it took months, they are long). I enjoyed but didn’t love them. However I do LOVE JKR’s Strike books, the ones written as Robert Galbraith, they are amazing. Thank you for offering to take over the thread for Nov, much appreciated.

Well here we are, the end of October. We are still in the living room today, our mission is to go sofa and chair diving. Tuesday is also plan and play day. DD will be dressing up to tonight to give out sweets for trick or treat, hoping the weather stays dry.

I read the books as they were being published. It was a perk of a job i had that i was interacting with the age group that grew up on the tales so reading them with them helped with conversations. The books have a lot more background and depth than the movies. Some of the movies are terrible if you read the books first because the films try to make the story something the film wasn't. BUT if you ignore that going to the books after the films you will hopefully get an understanding of a lot of stuff that was washed over in the movies. Voldermorts back story, dumbledores funeral, Nevils parents. Why voldermort is he who shall not be named. But there is a lot of words in the stories to get to all that. Remember the target audience when reading the books as they really were design to grow up with the kids reading them, and the characters in them and it is reflected in the style which can be frustrating a little in the early books if you are not expecting it.

I actually had a good night's sleep and am about to get tackling the room of doom and the kitchen. It might seem like a late start but i have been working on the christmas shopping thing, and planning the attack plan. I "think" bare one shopping trip, i have got the Christmas presents sorted. One will have to come with an iou as i simply wont get to make it in time but the recipient won't mind. Other than that i need to buy/find what the heck happened to the Christmas cards. Not cooking christmas dinner this year so food wise that is not a problem. And chaos in the house due to building work means no decorations up either. So that means I "think" i am done for Christmas stuffs. Oh. yay?

to do
<unrolls a scrolls worth of stuff>
<sighs>
<resigns self to starting>

HauntingHazel · 31/10/2023 13:35

That is very good to know about the style of the books, thank you hills! I knew the books had more detail, so I'm looking forward to finding out more. The movies are long enough as it is, so I could only imagine how long they would be if they put everything in them!

I will get the new thread for November set up in a little bit.

To Dos:
💀 bleach back bathroom - we have no door on the main bathroom, the other one is dusty & dirty due to the construction. The door has been spray painted
💀 stitch the button back on DS's costume 🤦‍♀️
💀 LOLs, especially sheets and towels
💀 grocery pickup order
💀 clear all countertops in kitchen (so everything's out of the way of the painter)
💀 be available to move anything else for the painter
💀 set up shiny new thread for November
💀 take DS to his appt after school
💀 be ready to give out lots of candy to trick or treaters tonight

All day I plan on having Halloween movies going (as I stated above) in the background.
I'll be back later 🍒👋

HauntingHazel · 31/10/2023 13:39

I forgot to say: hills I can't believe you have as much ready for Christmas as you do! I have a lot of my shopping done also, but nothing else is planned yet. We should be able to put up our decorations this year, but only if the carpet has been done. Should be, but who knows 🤷‍♀️

HillsBesideTheSea · 31/10/2023 14:22

Honestly despite the house chaos we are pretty much on track for normal christmas prep. Only difference is that we are unlikely to be making christmas biscuits etc and definitely wont be putting up decorations. The bit we are way way way waaaaaaaaaaay behind on is a tidy clean house. Hmm Sad

I have been super slow about getting going. Pulled some stuff out of the room of doom and about to transport the boxes to my room as there is floor space to tip the boxes out for sorting.

HauntingHazel · 31/10/2023 17:33

Ta Das (so far - 11:30am):
🎃 1st LoL in dryer (sheets)
🎃 2nd LoL in washer (towels)
🎃 handwash dishes washed
🎃 wiped countertops down (moved things out of the way)
🎃 scrubbed stovetop
🎃 rotated DW
🎃 put handwashed dishes away

Currently going to sit down for a few minutes to drink a cup of tea (chamomile with honey, my cough won't go away). I'm going to reattach a button and get a movie started. I'll be back. Again.

HillsBesideTheSea · 31/10/2023 19:03

ta da
4 loads of washing
Pulled out the contents and earmarked 4 boxes of toys for rehoming
ditched the plaster cast (ewwww)
sorted 3 rbcs
pulled out another 5 boxes to sort
batch cooked chili
got a batch of mince pie filling on the stove
about to get another batch of something started
dropped ds off
find 1 box and a whole heap of stuff to go to a sibling
1 box and some big things gone into a car to go to tip

Still working on stuff atm so there will probably be more ta das later

HouseorHome · 02/11/2023 10:22

Day off for me (but I have to work 3-4 hours later, so not really!) and time to catch up. Barely been in the last few days and when I have I've been exhausted so the perpetuals will be taking up a fair amount of time today.

I think I agree with DH now - the word perpetual, now I use it so much, is starting to irritate me too. I'll change it to basics (laundry, tidying, dishes, spot clean). First of all I need to have a shower and get dressed - it is the kind of day where that feels like a big deal, so I'll make myself do that now.
