Does a reed diffuser that scents a room actually exist?

I've bought so many that frankly are a complete waste of time.. from most of the high street shops, and more expensive. None smell unless close up and even then not for long.

Does anyone know a brand that actually manages to make a room smell nice?

Isle of Skye candles, Machair flowers, reed difuser. Lovely fresh smell and lasts for months

Wishimaywishimight · 21/08/2023 18:12

Purcell and Woodcock are the best I have found.

**EDIT - POTTERS CROUCH! been a long day 🙄

Bonfire23 · 21/08/2023 18:36

@MotherofPearl I hate stuff like plug ins etc or sprays but I enjoy naturally scented candles and diffusers so I get it
My bathrooms don't have windows annoyingly as I love open windows so I tend to put one in there

Mindymomo · 21/08/2023 19:04

My favourites are by a local company near me called Ashleigh and Burwood, I have different ones around my house, they have a variety of fragrances, but I refer something subtle. I also like The White Company sprays and diffusers.

I tried Valentte after a similar thread on MN with posters raving about them. I bought four different ones and, to me, they all smelled like strong smelling household cleaning products. I wouldn’t buy again.

I really like Rituals though, so to each their own.

I also bought Valentte diffusers and candles after reading about them on here. I won't be purchasing anything from Valentte again.

Rebecca Tracey and Otium are my favourite diffusers and candles.

sunshinesupermum · 23/08/2023 18:01

I have used Valentte diffusers in two different rooms twice. The rooms are not large/open plan and frankly these diffusers don't do the job. Next diffusers OTOH do'

Now you all tell me! I'll report back

Limetreee · 24/08/2023 08:42

I’m still deciding 🤣

Allhailkingcharlie · 24/08/2023 09:12

The range!

morelippy · 24/08/2023 09:55

Just coming back to say the Habitat ones in Sainsbury's seem to be good! I bought a Spa Day one last week and it's the best I've had for ages. Brown bottle.

I got so fed up with even my Jo Malone ones not smelling that I now make my own. You can buy everything from a uk company, the bottles, the carrying oil, the reeds and any scent you like. I place the bottle on the scales, add in 60ml of carrier then 30ml of fragrance, give it a little shake, add the reeds and it's done, they really waft! At the moment I'm using Dove flavoured ones in the bathrooms and Myrhh & Tonka in the downstairs loo, I'm always being asked where they're from especially as the bottles have no branding!

Thank you for this! Had no idea you could make your own but I bought some supplies from this website you recommended and used the maximum recommended percentage of the fragrance oil and now have a gorgeous smell that fills the entire open plan downstairs. Love it 😊

Also means I have another stockist where I can buy fragrance oils for my soap making, so thanks for that too!

Rina66 · 24/08/2023 13:16

So pleased @LemonRedwood what flavour did you go for? Do you have digital scales that you can set to ml? I find it so much easier than using jugs to measure.

BarborousBarbra · 24/08/2023 13:36

I have a floral Street one that you can smell all throughout the downstairs. Not home right now, but I believe it's this one https://www.johnlewis.com/floral-street-wonderland-bloom-scent-diffuser-100ml/p6164019

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 24/08/2023 13:47

Inis is very good too.

I ordered the lemongrass and rosemary and it arrived today (actually I got two as they had a BOGOF offer on). So far I'm delighted with it. The smell is very fresh and clean, and not at all cloying, which was my dread. Thanks for the recommendation!

Shady23 · 24/08/2023 13:57

@MotherofPearl (I've NC!) phew!!!
I think it's a very clean fresh scent and not artificial

BatshitCrazyWoman · 24/08/2023 14:03

I like the Naturally European ones from the Somerset Toiletry Company - they don't have that weird underlying smell that lots have, and I find they last months. Not read the whole thread, so they may have been mentioned already 😂

BarborousBarbra · 24/08/2023 16:50

Oh, and it's actually really easy to make your own with sweet almond oil as a carrier and the essential oils of your choice. If you get the blend right they're better than any you can buy.

doroda · 24/08/2023 16:57

The strongest one I've ever known was a cheap one from Aldi, tomato vines and basil. It made the living room absolutely stink of a greenhouse and had to get rid of it after a few days

LemonRedwood · 24/08/2023 18:58

@Rina66 Yes, digital scales, and I weighed in g rather than ml as that's what I'm used to doing with soap.

I went with neroli (can't get enough of neroli scent in anything!) and took a punt on sweet orange as well. Sniffing the bottle that one seems like it might be a bit sickly in a diffuser but would probably work really well as a soap scent so it won't go to waste. I like the large range they had on the website. I'm sure I'll be going back to try out some more 😀

SophiaElise · 24/08/2023 19:00

Yes - try Rituals (Jing is my favourite)
