Does a reed diffuser that scents a room actually exist?

I've bought so many that frankly are a complete waste of time.. from most of the high street shops, and more expensive. None smell unless close up and even then not for long.

Does anyone know a brand that actually manages to make a room smell nice?

just came on to say I too have struggled with finding one that works....but after reading this thread I ordered the Rituals Mehr one,

Anyway, decided one last try (as it was nearly £40) but it is lovely - not too overpowering but a consistent lovely aroma, my DS even mentioned it so it must be appealing to get the attention of a 12 year old boy 😂. We have it in the the middle of our very big lounge so thought it might struggle, but its great (so far!)

Just ordered the smaller version to go on the landing windowsill. So thank you to whoever recommended that one....

Yes - try Rituals (Jing is my favourite)

Edited

Jing is my favourite too though why they don't sell a Jing body lotion in a tube is beyond me. Who wants to lug a great big pot of body cream around when travelling.

I got so fed up with even my Jo Malone ones not smelling that I now make my own. You can buy everything from a uk company, the bottles, the carrying oil, the reeds and any scent you like. I place the bottle on the scales, add in 60ml of carrier then 30ml of fragrance, give it a little shake, add the reeds and it's done, they really waft! At the moment I'm using Dove flavoured ones in the bathrooms and Myrhh & Tonka in the downstairs loo, I'm always being asked where they're from especially as the bottles have no branding!

I've gone down a rabbit Warren in this site. Thank you. Going to give making my own a try. And wax melts!

Cookerhood · 03/09/2023 11:19

Which website is it, please? I'm going to try it too. I can smell the Valennte one as I go past (it's on the landing so not an enclosed area), but I have to have a good sniff as I go past.

ChinHairDontCare · 03/09/2023 18:32

My Valentte ones arrived. They're lovely and actually were too strong, we had to take some of the reeds out. Just came in the door and the house smelled good (in a nice faint way).

Back again to say the Habitat at Sainsbury's Spa Day is still doing a great job, and they're currently on offer. I bought Gardenia and Rose today for the bathroom and it's also quite impressive

I know a lot of people love them, but if you have guests or friends with asthma or respiratory problems please consider how and where you use reed diffusers. Especially after covid an awful lot of people have underlying respiratory problems (I do!) and they can trigger a bad response. We had a recent holiday ruined when we turned up to find the airBnB we'd booked full of diffusers - every room had one, including bedrooms! I could barely breathe and had an immediate reaction with my lungs burning and the need to cough. We had to put them all outside and leave the windows open for 24 hours and I was popping antihistamines the whole time Sad.

I second Potters Crouch last ages

MattyB1 · 11/05/2024 17:27

I’ve tried soooo many and the only one I have found that actually lasts and works and is noticeable until it runs out is the Rituals brand. Such a shame it is SO expensive!

ohthejoys21 · 11/05/2024 21:22

The only room I would put a diffuser in is the downstairs loo.. the rooms are too big it's just a waste of money.

Onand · 11/05/2024 21:38

First of all the room needs to be fairly draught free so the scent doesn’t blow out and away, cold rooms will also be tricky to get the best of your diffuser.

My MIL has one that smells of piss, like actual cat piss but she thinks it’s lovely. Anyway the crux is some definitely have a good throw, you just have to find them.

Diptyque 34 candle smells incredible without being lit so that’s one to consider.

Jp666 · 24/05/2024 09:23

The only ones I found, after spending literally hundreds on them, was from a range called Aroma Works. The smell just doesn't fade and they're very spa like, which is what I was after. I actually discovered them in B&M on sale for £5 so I thought I'd give them a try. Ended up driving around all the B&Ms in my area and buying a them up but I've run out now. Bought a £30 one from next, which smelled similar but It stopped giving off a smelly after a couple of days. The only downside to the Aroma works is that they don't last long so I was going through them quickly, which is why I tried the Next one. You can get them in Boots or on their website for about £12.99.

Due to new IFRA regulations the amount of fragrance that can be used in a diffuser us now quite low to the point sone fragrances can't be used at all. Fragrance has had to be reformulated to meet the new regulations. Diffusers have been reclassified as well as your hand comes into direct contact with concentrated fragrance when you flip the reeds.

The % of fragrance oil you are using is a dangerous level that companies would not be allowed to use.
Section 10a of the ifra document will give you the maximum allowed. for many oils it's less than 10%

I also bought Valentte diffusers and candles after reading about them on here. I won't be purchasing anything from Valentte again.

Rebecca Tracey and Otium are my favourite diffusers and candles.

I often wonder if these threads are set up by marketing departments tbh.

Rina66 · 24/05/2024 20:35

@Flopsythebunny those are the quantities recommended by the company selling the oil and carrier liquid, no problems so far, I've been doing it for years.

Rina66 · 24/05/2024 20:38

@Flopsythebunny they're also not essential oils

Why quote my post and make a reference to marketing departments?

I rarely find a reed diffuser that has any cast but I've just bought one which i can smell as soon as I walk in. It's ylang ylang and orange blossom from Tesco of all places.

I bought the vanilla from Tesco and it's great. Used in a small office.

The company (which is not a very good one) simply recommend that diffusers can be made up to 25% but you have to check the sds for each individual fragrance to find the safe limit for that particular fragrance

I didn't say they were essential oils. I actually said fragrance oils
