Well done with the soup! Yummy, huh? I do it when I have veggies we need to eat up - you can chuck anything in a soup. And it's CHEAP! (as long as you're not making asparagus soup or something).

Did you use a proper recipe or just chuck everything in a la Sushi?

Thanks for the vibes

babyjjbaby · 26/02/2008 16:54

go on sushie i know what u mean i did loads earlier and am struggling now

sagacious · 26/02/2008 16:55

Chucked it in
Celery/peppers/peas/sweetcorn cabbage and leek, teaspoon of marigold stock powder and water

It didn't look great when I jushed it with the liquidiser thing (can you tell i'm not a natural cook but yum)

Am feeling all virtuous !

Sushi/Saga I'm a bit of a bung it all in soup maker. My minestrone is good as I stick in a ham bone while it boils mercilessly. Then I fish it out and add farfellini to thicken it, then left over shreded cabbage and then scoff it.

I find soup making a deeply spiritual process. Don't know why.

I've done begger all FLYing since my last post. Ed is off school tomorrow as 'the roof's blown off' ( it's a new build under 5 years old) and as I'm going for a haircut in the morning (1st time in 6 mths) I don't need to do a bedtime routine either

Lazy Grouchy heh heh heh

Oh Ruby pleased your date went well

sushistar · 26/02/2008 17:05

bung-it-all-in soup is the best - you never know what you're gonna get! Agree with the bone thing. I HOARD bones when we have meat (not often) then boil them to make stock. Then I strain the stock, chuck in the veg, and presto!

One tip - instead of whizzing with the blender, sometimes I mash my soup. Yes, it sounds wierd, but I mash a potato masher in the pan after the veggies are nice and soft, and it makes it nice and thick like the blender but leaves some veggies in chunks, for added deliciousnes.

Other tip - even nasty veggies taste nice in soup.. My soup this week is carrots, parsnips, suede, onions, spuds. Sounds
yuk, is yum, and cheap, and eco friendly cos all those are in season and so low air miles!

Grouchyoscar · 26/02/2008 17:14

I well agree with you Sushi

I get ham bones from the deli counter. There's loads of unslicable meat on them. It's a crime to just lob them in landfill.

I ask the butcher on the market for bones and he willingly gives me a huge bag full. Roast them then boil and it's Bollocks to Bisto and Oh no to Oxo.

Cheap n cheerful soup is fab
DH made cheap n cheerful cheesy veg bake last night. Parsnips, swede, sweet spud, celeriac, cauli. brocoli, leeks, celery, carrots, onions in a cheese sauce with a cheese and breadcrumb topping.

Georgio Locatelli made it OK to scoff leftovers

Grouchyoscar · 26/02/2008 17:21

DH got good knives for his birthday.

We no longer buy chicken portions, we get whole chickens and he dismembers them and turns the bones and trimmings into stock.

And when he skined and filetted the spoils of a fishing trip for a neighbour, he turned into Rick Stein! So that's a supply of fish stock.

intravenouscoffee · 26/02/2008 17:25

Hello all, was about to post about 3 hours ago until DD woke up early from her nap in a FOUL mood and proceeded to scream and sob for around 15 minutes until she'd demolished 7oz milk and was settled in front of Baby Einstein vid. Fly going well today all things considered but... oh, I hear a wail from upstairs. Looks like the cat nap is over. Catch you all later x

tortoise · 26/02/2008 17:43

Hi all.
Long thread again! read a few posts!
TR Well done. You are going great. Hope you are feeling a bit better now.
Luda Glad your Dad is ok.
Bianca Hope you get the denture sorted soon.

I had to take Mickey back to the vets this afternoon. He started limping again. The vet thinks he got something out of the pad. Looked like i was right, it looked like a tiny piece of glass probably from the mirror i knocked down and broke on valentines night while geling DS's hair. So all my fault. But the lovely vet said he wouldn't charge me today.

Have had a headache all day. no acheived much at all. Infact i have just remembered i sorted the massive pile of clean stuff out and it is still in piles for each person on my bed. I suppose i better sort it in a bit or it will end up back on the floor in a heap.

babyjjbaby · 26/02/2008 17:45

i have got the baby up from nap put ironing away and washed up but i still need to clean up lol

tortoise · 26/02/2008 17:46

Don't suppose anyone is interested in anything here? Will have to start Ebaying tonight as well i guess! MN for sale isn't very good anymore.

sushistar · 26/02/2008 17:54

Sorry tortoise! You'll probably get more cash or it on ebay anyhow

Made dinner, sterilised breastpump, but didn't get a chance to express before ds woke up howling!

BiancaCastafiore · 26/02/2008 18:05

Hi Tort

The threads are sooo long these days - it's great but I'm getting very lazy at reading them!

EHM asked me to say a big Hello to everyone, she'd finding the injection/tablets are making her feel very weepy & horrid and she's feeling very anti-social for not being around so much on here. Poor her, sounds dreadful but hopefully it'll all be worth it

I went to the dentist (a feat in itself - I'm with you on that TMH!) and have been told that the denture isn't repairable so they'll have to make me a new one. This means I can keep the old one while they make it so I don't have to be toothless - thank goodness, just a little uncomfortable wearing this chipped set but never mind, it could be worse! The new one will cost at least £440
Thanks for the grin Ruby

Better go and run the kids a bath.
Have a good evening all

tortoise · 26/02/2008 18:11

Awww poor EHM. Sent her a HUG from me.
£440 thats a lot of money. Glad the old ones are useable for now.

BiancaCastafiore · 26/02/2008 18:15

I will pass that on Tort thanks

It is a lot of money but I need a set - this set are now only held in with awful grippy gel stuff which is foul and gives me oral thrush don't want to have to put up with it for long. Short term will be tolerated though.

Good luck ebaying

Have run the bath, better get them in it now

DontDreamItBeIt · 26/02/2008 18:41

Evening

I've had to hoover, due to cake crumbs everywhere and this mornings washing is in the t/d, but nothing else has been done today.

Bianca I hate that you have to pay for things like that. They really aren't optional, and should be free imo. (I have had to have my two front teeth crowned after breaking themreally badly as a child. Luckily for me, my dad paid, and there shouldn't need o beany more done to them)

EHM Big from me if you are lurking Be kind to yourself.

Soup - I'm veggie, so no boiling bones here, but I do make various bung it all in soups, too. The ds won't eat them though

Sush/ babyjj and everyone else who starts flagging in the afternoon.....once you've sorted out a routine that works, you aren't supposed to be spending all day doing housework. If you are generally more producive in the morning (and most of us are) give yourself more jobs to do then, and just do the quick bedtime tidy up in the evenings.

Here is my evening routine:
13 Tea
14 Wash up/shine sink
15 Wipe table/highchair
16 DD1 homework/tables
17 DD2 homework/reading/spelling
18 Baths
19 Tidy toys
20 Hoover
21 School bags

It is mostly about getting ready for the next morning here. No major housework is done after about 3pm

tortoise · 26/02/2008 19:39

Well i managed to put a few bits away. Put DS's stuff on their beds ready to put away tomorrow.
I am so F*ing useless!!!!

sushistar · 26/02/2008 20:01

I'm feeling useless too tortoise
Been a tough day.

DontDreamItBeIt · 26/02/2008 20:08

You are NOT USELESS. Yes I meant to shout!

We all just do the best we can. Some days that isn't great, but it is still good enough. Stop thinking about it and start again tomorrow.

tortoise · 26/02/2008 20:08

Aww sushi. Sorry you have had a tough day.

tortoise · 26/02/2008 20:10

But i am Dream. I never get things done that need doing.
OK I did the kitchen Saturday but then i didn't sort clothes out which i was planning to do which resulted in a stressful start to Monday!

DontDreamItBeIt · 26/02/2008 20:16

That doesn't make you useless tort. If we all did all the stuff that needs doing none of us would need to post on here.

intravenouscoffee · 26/02/2008 20:16

tort - was totally in awe of your kitchen cleaning on weekend thread so please don't beat yourself up. We can only do so much, none of us is Wonderwoman (I for one don't have the cleavage) . Dream is right. And if you don't all cheer up she'll put her hands on her hips and really shout!

sushistar · 26/02/2008 20:17

You and me tortoise, this is what our evening routine should be:

Open wine and pour
Sit on the sofa and drink wine and watch telly - funny telly, preferably
Maybe write a list/routine for tomorrow IF we feel up to it.

Whaddya reckon?

intravenouscoffee · 26/02/2008 20:18

Hurray! I'm half way through Sushi's list...
