I completely get where you’re coming from. I’ve had friends over a few times in recent weeks and the lurpak tub came out, I didn’t like it! Saw what is essentially a matt black box with wood lid which would look right, to me, but it didn’t fit the tub too.

Use a melon baller and put some in a pretty dish when you have people over?

GCWorkNightmare · 15/03/2023 13:44

I don’t buy messed about with butter but have had my Emma Bridgwater butter dish since I was about 30 and it fits a 500g block of butter perfectly.

redspottedmug · 15/03/2023 13:45

If you have a butter dish you don't need spreadable butter.

Otherwise google butter dish for 500g tub.

FlounderingFruitcake · 15/03/2023 13:47

Surely you don’t use a butter dish for spreadable butter?

redspottedmug · 15/03/2023 13:47

PS Wooden lids don't go in the dishwasher!

LaRitournelle · 15/03/2023 13:48

I'm not sure you will find one as butter dishes are just for blocks of butter surely? I buy spreadable through winter and the tub just goes in the fridge, block in the butter dish once it's a bit warmer so isn't impossible to spread.

DoorstoManual · 15/03/2023 13:48

Lurpak spreadable is not butter. HTH

Kerrygold on the other hand is the food of the Gods. Also HTH.

LaRitournelle · 15/03/2023 13:50

I don't judge my hosts butter keeping but if I was going to then I'd certainly be more Confused over a tub of spreadable in a butter dish rather just having the tub out...

Ostryga · 15/03/2023 13:53

So when you have guests over buy a block of butter to serve from a butter dish. Or get better friends who don’t care what form your butter comes in!

TheDogsMother · 15/03/2023 13:57

I've got a lovely Le Creuset butter dish with real butter in it and I'm not over 80 !!

Why would you need a butter dish if it's in already in a tub though OP ?

I was going to suggest Le Creuset!

LaRitournelle · 15/03/2023 14:34

My butter dish is Le Creuset (£8 from TK Maxx) but it wouldn't fit a tub in it.

GoldenCagedBird · 15/03/2023 14:35

You wouldn’t put that in a butter dish, it would just collapse

Butter dishes are for butter

If you want to present it for a better ‘aesthetic’ when entertaining, scoop some out and put in a ramekin or a ceramic dish. You’ll need something that will hold it in

Moonlightsonatas · 15/03/2023 14:36

How are you going to get the Lurpak out of the tub and into the dish? I use blocks of butter in my butter dish.

WeepingSomnambulist · 15/03/2023 14:38

It will just looked daft and be more cumbersome, especially if there is any wiggle room between the lurpak packaging and your outer fancy tub. It will wobble when trying to get butter out.

Just scoop some butter out and put it into a small dish when people are over.

Sarvanga38 · 15/03/2023 14:39

Googling butter dish for Lurpak tub brings up several options, including this.

(Definitely not 80, and gorgeous round Susie Watson butter dish here!)

WeepingSomnambulist · 15/03/2023 14:40

There are a couple of threads atm about reading comprehension and how often poster' either just dont bother to read the OP or they just sont understand it. This thread is a great example.

Why are so many people asking how spreadable butter will sit on a dish? That isnt what the OP said.

She wrote clearly that she wanted a dish she can place the entire tub of lurpak in, including the tub. Just a dish to hide the lurpak tub it is in basically. The butter will still be in the lurpak tub.

WinterMusings · 15/03/2023 14:41

Moonlightsonatas · 15/03/2023 14:36

@Moonlightsonatas

she doesn't want to get it out, she wants to put the entire tub into it.

@BlossomOfOrange you're wasting your time. If you care what guests think, decant some into a ramekin or something, or just put the tub in the table. Putting the 500g tub into a 'butter dish' just looks daft!

GoldDuster · 15/03/2023 14:42

How would you get it to stand up for itself in a butter dish?

If you've got people coming over and you don't want the plastic tub on the table, transfer some into a ramekin.

I can't imagine how a butter dish would help you, unless you used it upside down 🤔

WishIdDoneItYearsAgo · 15/03/2023 14:42

Lurpak Spreadable isn’t butter! It also needs to go in the fridge and the entire point of a butter dish is to keep your butter cool and fresh without it being so cold that it’s unusable.
I use a butter dish but I wouldn’t judge someone who chooses just to use Lurpak Spreadable. However, I’d struggle not to laugh if they put a butter dish on the table containing the entire plastic tub of Lurpak. 🤣

GoldDuster · 15/03/2023 14:44

Including the tub?! Like a tissue box cover? Or a loo roll skirt dolly?

Not sure where you might find one of those, but maybe there's a market for them!

bellac11 · 15/03/2023 14:44

I like this idea but I wouldnt eat spreadable.

I like real butter and our butter dish isnt even big enough for a normal sized block, not sure why not.

Chewbecca · 15/03/2023 14:45

I have a le creuset dish but it wouldn't fit a tub in.

If I were you I would either buy posh proper butter when you have guests (president or the ones with flakes of sea salt in them) or, if you really want to give your guests spreadable, then just move a spoon or three to a nice small dish.

Don't bother putting a dish on the table with a tub inside.
