you would need to push it in and smooth it out, spreadable butter won’t just plop out.
I use a butter bell and real butter and really recommend that as it keeps butter spreadable and fresh.

llamakoala · 15/03/2023 19:53

I got this a couple months ago and it’s perfect:

apollo The HOUSEWARES Brand Butter Dish with Handle Deep, Storage for Butter with Lid, Serving Tableware, Size: 17x11x10cm, Porcelain, White amzn.eu/d/eLkceDJ

It fits a block of Kerrygold, or Lurpack. 250g, not 500g.

For the record I’m in my early thirties, not over eighty!

You want to buy a container for a food item that comes in its own container? Eh?

What is it are you finding difficult to understand about that? 🤣

HappyAsASandboy · 15/03/2023 21:34

I put 500g tubs of butter in a butter dish, and I don't think it looks daft - in fact you can't see the tub at all, so it's just a ceramic dish with butter in it Confused

Mine isn't exactly like this one, but it is similar. Measure the tub to see what size dish to buy.

I have a butter dish from Sainsbury's! Love it!!! YABU to buy spreadable butter. Get the block of lurpsk!

AlbertCampion · 15/03/2023 21:43

We have a local ceramicist who makes beautiful butter dishes. Some of them are really quite big. I went to one of her exhibitions and really wanted to buy one, but we have a Le Creuset one already and so I couldn't justify it.

If you wanted to check her out, her website is here. She'd probably make one the right size for you if you asked:

Of course you won’t find a suitable butter dish for spreadable “butter”!

Any self-respecting butter dish just knows Wink

I know, people and their fucking cats! Then they say "oh but cats are sooooo clean".

The cat that's been licking your block of butter was two minutes earlier licking its anus 🤣

I second Emma Bridgewater but make sure you get a large one not a small one.

blueyandbingobaby · 20/03/2023 23:37

IT IS NOT BUTTER Grin

wanttokickoffbutcant · 20/03/2023 23:39

I have a lovely retro glass butter dish from a charity shop - I am not 80 but the previous owner probably was .......

Davros · 22/03/2023 19:49

Lurpak? When it's easy to get beautiful salty butter from Cornwall, Jersey etc

Ponderoveryonder · 26/03/2023 17:31

500g of lurpak . Is this a stealth boast ? 🤑🤑🤑😂
If you’re going to put butter in a butter dish no need for spreadable surely ,especially as spring is upon us?

KirstenBlest · 26/03/2023 17:59

If you are going to buy the spreadable stuff, you might as well buy the own brand stuff, it's less than half the price of the danish one.

Redebs · 26/03/2023 18:21

If you're ok with stainless steel

Throwncrumbs · 26/03/2023 18:46

A butter dish is for proper butter, not god awful spreadable crap!

sunglassesonthetable · 26/03/2023 18:55

omg give OP a break.

She doesn't want to eat a block of butter from Cornwall or Jersey or with salt crystals from M&S or whatever else you think she should be doing.

She just wants a dish for her Lurpak.!!!!

Yes a dish that covers the packaging. And she's owning it.

Depends how cold your kitchen is, surely? We've some butter in our butter dish and it's just short of rock hard. It's been out of the fridge for two weeks now.

I agree - don’t be judgey to the OP she didn’t ask for opinions on her consumption choices.

i’m welsh and absolutely love proper welsh salty butter (preferably in the round shape, and getting a butter dish for that is fun)… and for a crumpet, making pasty or slathering on a bit of baguette I’m there - but with the stupid price of butter these days, the spreadable ‘versions’ are half the price just about, so for making sandwiches or whatever, it’s fine. I have a lovely, ROUND butter dish for my butter, but I absolutely have a rub in the fridge too.

precious (helpful) posters are right - I know Lakeland used to sell a dish for such things. My GPs couldn’t have butter as they had to have dairy free spread, and for a nice breakfast table they used to enjoy theirs with one like that.

Hopefully OP can find one suitable.
