Where do you keep laundry baskets?

Random one, but where does everyone keep their laundry baskets (the ones for dirty washing)
We all have one in our bedrooms at the moment, but thinking about it I've never seen them in anyone else's homes.
Is there a hack I'm missing?!

One in each bedroom

toastedcat · 25/11/2022 16:49

Timely because I've JUST moved mine into the bathroom. I'm quite messy and was finding I'd end up with random bits all over the bathroom so I'm trying this out for size instead.

felluptheroad · 25/11/2022 16:50

Ah ok. Perhaps I'm not strange then. Or maybe I've just never noticed them in anyone else's house.
I had visions of people storing them in their wardrobes.

In the airing cupboard

TwoRockSalmonAndAHaporthOfChips · 25/11/2022 16:51

Tucked into a corner at the side of our wardrobe. A visitor wouldn’t see it through the oOne door of the bedroom as they passed to go to the loo. They’d only see it if they went in for a look in the big cupboard.

Filleto · 25/11/2022 16:52

I just have one in the bathroom.

Dougieowner · 25/11/2022 16:52

In the family bathroom.

felluptheroad · 25/11/2022 16:52

Just remembered that we used to have a cleaner and every week she'd move our washing basket into the en-suite. Then I'd move it back because it made it too cramped.

One in each bedroom, but fairly tucked out of the way so you wouldn't see unless looking for them, one is down the side of a wardrobe, another hidden by a vest of drawers and the third behind the door next to the ottoman so unless you go in and close the door behind you you wouldn't see it

felluptheroad · 25/11/2022 16:54

I've got no hidey holes in the master bedroom so it's stuck just inside the doorway.

In a specific cupboard in the kitchen, next to the washing machine

DeeofDenmark · 25/11/2022 16:56

We have them on the landing so everyone can throw stuff in and I can do a wash without going into each bedroom.

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 25/11/2022 16:56

We have a tall laundry cupboard from Ikea. Two bins, one for whites, one for darks. Two holes in the door through which to post the laundry. It stands in the corner of the landing near the bathroom.

Wrongsideofpennines · 25/11/2022 16:58

On the landing. It's a small house and there wouldn't be room in any other room unless I were to put it at the bottom of the wardrobe in the master. But then my husband would use that as an excuse that be didn't see the washing needed doing 🙄

UsingChangeofName · 25/11/2022 17:01

The landing(s) so everyone can access and I'm not collecting from several different places.

stuntbubbles · 25/11/2022 17:04

I keep it on the landing, which feels deliciously decadent: no old washing basket in our bedroom! Am I Mariah Carey?!

There’s also space to sort washing on the landing and just take downstairs what you’re going to wash, eg whites or wools.

FUCKING DP drags the whole basket downstairs to the world’s smallest lootility, shoves a mixed wash on and leaves the basket down there so no one can get to the loo without moving it to block the sink, AND the landing looks a mess because washing continues to pile up on the floor, and I can’t resolve this because I’m too pregnant to bend over or carry it back up, and I am NOT Mariah Carey.

Wow that felt good to get off my chest. Considering getting a landing basket and screwing it to the floor at this point. Building in one made out of steel.

Cynderella · 25/11/2022 17:05

In the bathroom - have tried having them in bedrooms, but it doesn't work for me. Bathroom is only place where there is space for separate bags for darks/lights/whites.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/11/2022 17:07

One in the bathroom. Main ones in the garage where the machine is

minipie · 25/11/2022 17:08

Our bathroom

SummerSazz · 25/11/2022 17:12

Dark one in the airing cupboard (in the bathroom) and light one in the bathroom itself

VerveClique · 25/11/2022 17:13

I have an amazing setup.

2x2 laundry bags on rails inside a single IKEA PAX unit in the main bathroom.

So 4 bags…

whites
colours
darks
DH’s work gear

everyone chucks their stuff in and boom, it’s pre sorted and in a bag ready to take to the washing machine Grin.

Bathroom

AuntieMarys · 25/11/2022 17:15

Utility room next to the machine. It has a lid on it.

gingercat02 · 25/11/2022 17:17

In the ensuite in our bedroom. Everyone uses it, I couldn't be doing with loads of different ones to sort washing from.
Ours has dark and light sections. Handwashing and other random bits go on the floor beside it.

AcrossthePond55 · 25/11/2022 17:21

DH & I have separate baskets in our closet and I have one for towels in our en suite. DS2 is in his en suite. We each do our own laundry as we are very particular. I have a big one in the laundry room (US) for sheets and random household 'washables' that I do the same day I do the towels.
