Following Flylady into September - Fledglings starting a new term

EspeciallyDivided · 31/08/2022 20:55

Welcome to the September Flylady Thread where we follow the Flylady routines for running our homes and lives. Links to the relevant parts of the Flylady site are posted each morning (most of the time - see naughty corner below). The Fledgling threads are long running, some have been posting for years some are new, all are welcome. Just jump in and ask if you don’t understand anything. The chat is an important part of the thread too, housework is not the be all and end all, we like to pass the time amongst friends while we get our houses in order.

This is not a strict thread but a gentle way of following the guidelines on the Flylady website without having to sign up the emails, which can become a bit overwhelming. Do as much or as litle as you can, there is no judgement here.

If you are new to the system start with the baby steps. These are designed to get you into a routine so you know longer think about doing the chores they are just habit. Set time, set day - do the thing. We do recognise that this is not a good system for quick decluttering and many of us in the past have combined this system with other systems for getting the heavy duty sorting out and cleaning out done. We don't judge.

Babysteps and household focus zones start again on the 1st of every month hence a new thread at the start of each month to keep things orderly. That is one of the great things about Flylady, you can jump in whenever because everything comes back round again soon. You are never behind.

Lastly we have a naughty corner - if you are struggling in any way this is a spot to join in the chat snuggled into comfy cushions with some nice drinks and nibbles until you feel ready to Fly again. So even if you have not lifted a finger around the house you can stay and chat. The thread leader may be found there from time to time putting the kettle on and plumping up the cushions.

Welcome to September.

This link www.flylady.net/c/lp.php is the Flylady launchpad. All the different parts of the system can be found here.

This is the Flighplan - the do do list which updates daily www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Hi everyone
Sorry i fell off the last thread. My dad was unwell but thankfully ok now.

I have started my new job, its crazy busy- loved it and at points I just wanted to leave as I felt soo ill. Chronic fatigue or school germs kicking in - i am hoping gettting some sleep now will help.

Such sad news about The Queen.

Hope you all are keeping well.💖

Morning all, no time to chat at the moment but just dropping in today’s links.

Today we move into zone 2, bathroom and one other room. Our bathroom mission is to clean around the base and back of the toilet bowl and our other mission is to tackle “stash and dash” piles, those places where stuff gets shoved to be dealt with later and is still there months on.

www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Monday is Home Blessing Day, but entirely up to you whether that suits or not, and if you don’t need to do the missions try a bit of decluttering instead.

Lovely to see you dancing!

Staff meeting done, and I’ve made a few interview notes from the job spec but TBH I’m not sure I can prepare any more than I already have other than maybe another practice of the presentation later. DH has got on with home ed stuff.

Feeling a bit lost now though as I have 2.5 hours till my interview. And I absolutely should be doing some of my essay but I’m not sure I can focus enough. So I’m just trying to relax a bit watching a biology documentary with DS (it helps that I love Dr Chris and Dr Xand… 🤪)

After that,
po3.1
❗️Have something proper for lunch
❗️Shower and wash/dry hair, put on smarter clothes
❗️Try and type in some citations even if I can’t focus enough to write anything useful

BloomingHazel · 12/09/2022 13:20

Good luck Perry & hills although I'm aware I'm probably massively late, I'm still thinking of you both today.
dancing good to see you back on here. I hope you're feeling better soon

WeegieGranny2022 · 12/09/2022 15:41

Finally all of DS's hobby related stuff is in the garage, just waiting for a suitable day for him to take everything he wants to his flat.

I swapped a few things around with my newly released cupboard space. Some of it will be great for my mum and dad's keepsakes.

Rounded up all spare pillows and duvets, and discovered that in my more muddled spending days I bought the same duvets twice. Well, at least we'll be warm this winter and be able to find what we need without a mad supermarket dash.

Been glued to the telly, particularly yesterday and the wonderful scenery. House is getting a bit messy around the edges, so I'm addressing that one hotspot at a time.

Tesco delivery has been in the garden since it arrived this morning, so that's an immediate to-do.

pompomseverywhere · 12/09/2022 18:42

✅ morning routine

✅ 6/8 of the weekly blessing thing

✅ afternoon routine (except exercise and decluttering). Does anyone do the exercise?

✅painting furniture

✅baby group

✅washed nappies

Aiming to compete the evening routine as I seem to be in the swing of it.

❌ no actual exercise and I can't manage any extra hidden gems that keep I finding like stash and dash areas. Not on Mondays anyway.

Aiming for bed at 9

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/09/2022 19:42

ta da
unload load and run dw
leave tea in oven with cooking instructions with 3 people (this bit is important)
deal with the fucked up public transport system in the big city which resulted in a hour and half journey taking 3hrs.
sit exam
deal with a much less broken transport system home
pop to tesco for a few bits
turn the oven on so the people have tea because 1st couldn't Hmm, 2nd said the instructions were vague and the 3rd had lost track of time.
set computer up ready for meeting at 8pm
eat chocolate

Also have a meeting at midnight so no early night for me.

and everything has just kicked off here.... ffs.

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/09/2022 06:25

Oh no hills hope it calmed down before the meeting.
Pompoms you seem to have slotted in here nicely.
Willow no mashing potatoes, what did you have in the end(g+b hot choc is😋😋😋😋😋)
Dancing lovely to hear from you.
Can't rember what else I ment to say!
Not much happened here yesterday other than lil zoo complained hits too bad for school,DD having epic wibble and my joints were so still and painful I lay on sofa all day as exhausted also.
Today will be better<crosses everything and hopes for the best>

EspeciallyDivided · 13/09/2022 07:47

Morning all, the last few days have been manic and quite an emotional upheaval with DS going off to uni (@BloomingHazel I still have DD, 16 at home but she is much quieter and more independent). On the plus side I will have more spare time but on the downside I am missing DS. Also this week it being the first full week of term all the committees I am on have scheduled meetings so it is a packed week. Hoping by next week things will be settling into a new routine.

To do:

Toilet bowl outside wipe from yesterday
Post waterproof trousers to DS (he’s going in a field trip next week and phoned me to say “Mum I’ve got everything I need except the waterproof trousers”) - it’s always the bloody waterproof trousers and they never wear them - this pair has seen both my DCs through bronze DofE without ever being worn.
Work
Committee meeting
Hopefully gym

Flightplan above. The missions today are to clean out the bathroom bin and to declutter the stash and dash spaces again.

Sorry, I haven’t got time to keep posting babysteps every day too but please click through from the link at the bottom of the Flight Plan. Today’ss daily Focus is Planning.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 13/09/2022 08:38

Morning!

Hope DS is settling in well ED - great that he’s let you know re field trip already and not at the last minute! But 😁 at the unused trousers. Always the way with these things isn’t it.

Hope exam itself went ok hills despite nightmare journey!

YesTaDa
💥staff meeting
💥home ed stuff (although DH took over most of it as I was stressy and busy)
💥interview/presentation
💥finished essay including references etc

Stayed up rather late to get the essay done, just because I was feeling very slow and unfocused. But it’s done to a standard that will pass if nothing else and that’s all I need!

po3.1
❗️Meds, breakfast, dressed
❗️Check work email quickly
❗️Write self reflection section of assignment, check everything and send it before celebrating the fact that my first module is DONE

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/09/2022 09:10

So tired this morning. No sign of ds and i slept through my alarm so hoping he got to college ok this morning.

Massive to do list. Like massive

ta da
discuss plans for the 3 day turnabout from building site to show home sobs
strip my bed
put 1st duvet into the wash i have 2 cost elevated knees
move all laundry downstairs
discover the basket of washing that was brought in sunday night was wetter than i thought and get it back on the line to finish drying Hmm
kick out washing up from my room
find container for corralling the recycling from upstairs
find bin bags to deal with the the decluttering work
consider what study notes should be kept and what can go straight away
try to figure out what to do about the books with no current home cos waiting for ikea to get the shelves for the book case in.
eat chocolate
realise that am going to need to head up to the big asda and make plans to grab chicken for tea rather than faffing with remembering to defrost keep forgetting as life is mad making that easier later
Put leftover lasagna in the fridge - tea for tomo will be left overs.
find a safe place to put the notes in from last nights training meetings.
introduce a tea person to coffee syrups,

right next up wash hair and get dressed then head out for Asda

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/09/2022 11:24

also ta da
move board etc out of room for ease of stripping room down to clean
move matress topper
deal with book situation - means i have temporarily lost my plant shelf - but they will go on hanging pots in the window for now and potentially i will have space to pick up more plants when the shelf situation resolves.
Turn the "hidden" books so they are pages out rather than binding out - just less drama due to different philosophical views in the house.
collect everything for going into the office
move the new boxes of washing powder from lounge away where lives
return chair seat cushion to fixed chair
put chair cover out for wash
fold washing
collate ironing pile, and sock pile of doom - will have to deal with that later
walk around the house picking up and dealing with the obviously recycling stuff - eg boxes stuff arrives in Hmm
make note that really do need to make the dragon
try to figure out where the plant light box is so it can go away in temp storage
return stuff to car
add clear out car to the to do list
find bag that needs emptying for ds to use as a gym bag

Got side tracked from the errand needed to run - I should probably go do that.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 13/09/2022 11:35

Have been chilling playing games on the iPad for a while since assignment is finished and submitted woohoo!!! Must actually get on with stuff soon though.

po3.2
❗️Send link and email to maths pupil ready for this afternoon (really wish I’d delayed the term start another week but needs must)
❗️Sort an activity for Cagletini to do later
❗️Work for a bit until stopping for a nice lunch and Netflix

BloomingHazel · 13/09/2022 14:39

hills those are massive ta das!
Perry well done on getting your assignment done and submitted, I bet it feels like a weight has been lifted

No ta das yet, Sunday was even a write off, didn't get anything done. It was actually nice to do absolutely nothing! I do have things I need to do today though, but it's still early (just gone 7:30am). DS decided he was taking the bus to school this morning so I didn't need to take him and I don't have any sausage meat to make DH his eggs today so he'll have to figure something else out! I have failed the planning for last week, although I do have a shopping list started, just not gone yet.

To do:
☕️ wash sheets
☕️ 2nd cup of coffee
☕️ meal plan for the week
☕️ grocery pick up order
☕️ deep clean both bathrooms
☕️ take DS to opticians right after school (I have to pick him up a few minutes early)

There's more I may end up doing, but those are the minimum that needs to be done.

BloomingHazel · 13/09/2022 18:12

Ta Das:
🌻 clean clothes all put away
🌻 sheets washed and in dryer
🌻 towels in washer
🌻 threw away empty containers from both bathrooms
🌻 emptied rubbish bins from both bathrooms
🌻 took decorations downstairs to the basement (birthday decor)
🌻 threw away all but one balloon
🌻 cleared a Hotspot
🌻 organised pantry (need more storage though to finish) threw away stale food 😪
🌻 dressed, makeup on, hair straightened

I still need to meal plan and finish my shopping list. I need to do grocery pickup, I don't have time to traipse around the grocery store!

pompomseverywhere · 13/09/2022 19:27

@EspeciallyDivided I remember my eldest going to uni, and being bereft, having another baby helped me 😂

pompomseverywhere · 13/09/2022 19:36

I still can't keep up with all the components on the website and app. I think I'm doing great and then I remember there's baby steps and detailed cleaning and five minute room rescues.

✅ mirrors and doors

✅ morning routine

✅ afternoon routine minus exercise and decluttering

✅ painted furniture

Evening routine and putting together nappies whilst watching MAFS tonight

pompomseverywhere · 13/09/2022 19:37

✅ meal plan

✅ food shop

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/09/2022 19:44

Pompoms - for your one stop shop of everything you need to do just check that flight plan as it incorporates everything and assumes you have already gone through the babysteps so has them in there.

BloomingHazel · 13/09/2022 20:27

Ta Das:
🌻 sheets back on bed
🌻 towels hung back up
🌻 meat pulled out to defrost
🌻 meal planning done
🌻 grocery pickup order placed
🌻 2 more LOLs in process

pompoms you don't need to start out by doing everything, it really is okay to only do a couple of things for a while before you add more. As you get in more of a routine it will get easier!
