Following Flylady into September - Fledglings starting a new term

EspeciallyDivided · 31/08/2022 20:55

Welcome to the September Flylady Thread where we follow the Flylady routines for running our homes and lives. Links to the relevant parts of the Flylady site are posted each morning (most of the time - see naughty corner below). The Fledgling threads are long running, some have been posting for years some are new, all are welcome. Just jump in and ask if you don’t understand anything. The chat is an important part of the thread too, housework is not the be all and end all, we like to pass the time amongst friends while we get our houses in order.

This is not a strict thread but a gentle way of following the guidelines on the Flylady website without having to sign up the emails, which can become a bit overwhelming. Do as much or as litle as you can, there is no judgement here.

If you are new to the system start with the baby steps. These are designed to get you into a routine so you know longer think about doing the chores they are just habit. Set time, set day - do the thing. We do recognise that this is not a good system for quick decluttering and many of us in the past have combined this system with other systems for getting the heavy duty sorting out and cleaning out done. We don't judge.

Babysteps and household focus zones start again on the 1st of every month hence a new thread at the start of each month to keep things orderly. That is one of the great things about Flylady, you can jump in whenever because everything comes back round again soon. You are never behind.

Lastly we have a naughty corner - if you are struggling in any way this is a spot to join in the chat snuggled into comfy cushions with some nice drinks and nibbles until you feel ready to Fly again. So even if you have not lifted a finger around the house you can stay and chat. The thread leader may be found there from time to time putting the kettle on and plumping up the cushions.

Welcome to September.

This link www.flylady.net/c/lp.php is the Flylady launchpad. All the different parts of the system can be found here.

This is the Flighplan - the do do list which updates daily www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Babysteps are here www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/

Oh and cleared hot spot at bottom of the bed - although it now seems to be full of stuff again 🤪

BloomingHazel · 10/09/2022 05:21

I've had such little sleep this week that the last 2 days have felt like one really long day 😪

YesTaDas:
😴 work (as usual)
😴 baked cupcakes for DS
😴 decorated for DS birthday (after the actual day, but before his party)
😴 helped DH replace the step on his pickup (we did the other side last week)
😴 got back into the house at 10:45pm and realised I still hadn't cleaned up the kitchen from baking
😴 finished loading the DW
😴 got clothes out for morning
😴 Showered and fell into bed at midnight

Ta Das:
💤 work (I have to wake up at 5:40am so it came way too early this morning)
💤 picked up dog's flea and tick meds
💤 picked up milk from the shop
💤 made 2 lots of frosting for cupcakes (and frosted them)
💤 had DH pick up pizza for the boys (DS has friends over tonight)
💤 cleaned up kitchen
💤 rotated DW
💤 handwashed dishes

I am so tired, it's not quite 10:30pm, but I'm ready to go to bed! Living it up on a Friday night 🤪 🤣
Sorry for lack of personals, I'm struggling to keep my eyes open!

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/09/2022 06:22

Been awake since 3.30,up since 5.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 10/09/2022 12:11

Afternoon everyone. Welcome to new people, sorry about your RA diagnosis nellie 💐

I have fallen off a bit and am feeling really low and flat TBH. I should have made the most of this morning to get on with stuff, I have two deadlines (Monday and Tuesday) and have zero energy or motivation to get on with stuff.

Thursday ta da
📒lots of staff meetings
📒dealt with more customer enquiries
📒put Cagletini to bed

YesTaDa
🎶got up, showered and out for 7.16 bus… which was cancelled
🎶made it to staff meeting thanks to a different bus, train and a lift from a colleague
🎶dealt with horrible situation with teen DD, social media use etc

EspeciallyDivided · 10/09/2022 12:38

Afternoon all, sorry, won’t be around much this weekend, we are packing DS up and taking him to uni tomorrow so there is a lot to do, although I’m looking forward to getting all his clutter out of the house, it has been piling up for weeks.

Saturday is Family Fun Day and Sunday is Renew Your Spirit Day according to Flylady, so no zone work or missions are specified but its a good idea to keep your routines going and maybe do a bit of decluttering.

OP posts:
CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 10/09/2022 13:05

Going nowhere fast so I need a power of three.

po3.1
❗️LOL into dryer
❗️Gather uni stuff
❗️Gather work stuff

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/09/2022 14:01

ta da
realise i know nothing about the question i am struggling with
1 load washing on
re-upolster a chair - ie play with staple gun to reattach the seat webbing (10min job)
make and drink an iced coffee

Now heading back to study and figure this stupid question out <sigh>

pompomseverywhere · 10/09/2022 15:34

Me and H aren't talking so not much family fun there. Me and the kids are having a nice time though!

Shannaratiger · 10/09/2022 21:48

Evening everyone

Feeling sad about the Queen's death, glad the schools will be shut for the funeral.

Ta Da
Finally transferred Dd's child trust fund into her name - she's 19 in October!
Filled out her Universal Credit Application.
Unfortunately they've cancelled her EHCP so the help we finally got with job applications and support for work experience has gone as well, only saw the lady about 3 times!! On our own again! Trying to find some nice CV layouts.

I've lost my old Control Journal so going to try and set one up on the computer, have a note book for daily To Do lists which I find really useful. Going to glance back through the website again and try to sort out a schedule that works for me, perfectionism is taking over and I'm barely doing anything.

Anyway I'm going to get started on some planning.
Will try and do personals tomorrow.

EspeciallyDivided · 10/09/2022 22:14

Have they actually cancelled it yet @Shannaratiger or have they just notified you that they intend to, if the latter you can appeal. I'm surprised we haven't heard from them yet, my DS is also heading for 19 and I was expecting them to write by now.

OP posts:
CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 10/09/2022 22:56

Hi Shannara nice to see you! Sorry about the EHCP, I don’t have direct experience of them but I thought they generally stay until 25?! Anyway, there are charities and initiatives around to help young people with SEND find work, I only know specific ones for my area but if you have a search or contact a local group like the county’s parent carer forum they should be able to suggest some leads.

So today was a bit blah, but despite a late start and horrible mood I did get a bit done. Basically stayed upstairs all day trying to focus and mostly failing!

ta da
🥨LOL
🥨washing in dryer
🥨bit of essay
🥨lots of research and note taking for presentation
🥨put Cagletini to bed

EspeciallyDivided · 10/09/2022 23:17

They can legally stay in place till 25 @CurseYouPerryThePlatypus but IME unless the needs are very severe indeed the councils try and end them at age 18. My friend has had to fight tooth and nail for her son's to continue post-18.

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 11/09/2022 04:56

Insomnia sucks
The echp system sucks

My exam sucks, and prep is urgh.

i am going to attempt to sleep something before i head into the urgh of exam prep tomo.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/09/2022 06:15

Where Sen kids sit is what cheapest option😤 better hide the soapbox before I get on and start ranting.

We actually had family fun day yesterday..
Heritage weekend we went to look at two very beautiful old churches in our town(if I give any other specifics easy identifiable) but they were stunning and the history behind them was amazing,pm visited dd1 new house which is coming together nicely and we all had a trim and dd2 hair was bleach and dip dyed red which looks fab!(dd1 not a hairdresser but great and trims and dyes!)
.
Today is crazy.lots shopping on foot and cleaning(I popped also before town yesterday and the bags are still on the dining table+and pizza boxes on floor from a late quick tea before bed)

Have a good day everyone

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 11/09/2022 08:50

Morning all. Didn’t get anything else done last night other than changing bunny litter tray, but still couldn’t sleep for ages. Period also finally arrived 🙄 so now there are cramps in the mix too. Fun day ahead. 🙄

po3.1
❗️Get self ready for the day - meds, vaguely dressed etc
❗️Start making presentation slides
❗️Print blank calendars for sept-dec and put them on the wall somewhere

Redsquirrel5 · 11/09/2022 10:25

Welcome newbies.

I am still having trouble logging on and staying on hence disappearing from time to time.
Had a few days away in the Lakes which was a lovely break. Meals out which was enjoyable no washing up apart from breakfast, lunch.

Boudoir which was almost Tidy now a mess. Not happy but it is necessary as I am doing the hall and craft room. I need to move it to my room in order to sort and try to Declutter...crafters will understand!

Yesterday

All ironing done.
Decluttered some bags.
Put everything in hall into the laundry basket this way it is easy to see and I can do a bit at a time. Hoping to Declutter and put it away. Earlier this year I went on a couple of printing courses where you needed to take a bag of random materials and they are still in the bags so need to be put back in some sort of order.
Monday
Aim to clean all the hall and front door.
DH needs to put door rail back up and I need to decide on the door curtain.
Radiator cover needed.
Pictures and photos need to go up.

Craft room

Needs loads done.
It is very small and extremely full of DDs and my stuff.
Kitchen is fairly tidy but the baking cupboard needs a bit of a tidy before I start Christmas baking.

Good luck to those taking precious children to Uni. You have done a good job so they will be fine. Those leaving them in new cities it is hard and a few tears might be shed.
Those with SEN should keep their support. Hard enough for young adults to make that step but to whip away the support is madness. Should be for at leat the first year and then gradual. Having worked with trying to get Primary aged children some help and support it makes me cross. One of mine has just completed his second Master’s degree and is working in MacDonald’s. I bumped into his mum a few weeks ago. I am so proud of this boy who some teachers found difficult before he was 8. My friend and I took him in hand, fought for him and supported his mum in striving for what he needed. Turned out we were right and he has ADHD. His ability in Maths continued and he was in the top 3% in the country at A level. He has a degree in Maths and went on to a Science degree as well. He and some colleagues have written a now published paper. Luckily he was supported when he first went to Uni. We need to support these young adults so they can fulfil their potential and become important cogs in their future wheel. He has researched something that can change people’s lives in medical procedures. How amazing is that!
Who knows what your children will achieve!

Right I need to get cracking.

Naughty corner is always welcoming for those that need a place to hide willow

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 11/09/2022 15:16

<adds cake>

Well I’ve managed the presentation so I’m pretty chuffed with that. Only just remembered about printing the calendars so I’ve sent those now thanks to online templates. Basically we’ve lost the diary AGAIN and there’s no point getting one for the last few months, so I’m going to tape Oct-Dec up in our room for long term plans and then put the current month on the fridge. It’ll have to do.

po3.2
❗️Pay for a home ed sub
❗️Sign into new school system
❗️Continue essay for a bit. Haven’t been able to find the first textbook 😳 so will have to make do with the PDF version.

BloomingHazel · 11/09/2022 16:06

laalaa it feels like those hot spots never go away! It does get easier though if you can keep on top of them
hills yes, I did manage to sleep okay and feel better for it, thank you. I'm glad you were able to get some sleep too
Perry I hope the teen situation is better now. It's such a minefield with all the social media now and kids can be so nasty
ED uni? 😱 your house will seem quiet! How many do you have left at home?
shannara were you able to get routines figured out in your planner?
pompoms 💐 I hope things are okay for you, did you at least get to do something fun with your DC?
zoo that sounds like a very full, fun filled day! Have lil zoo and DS been staying with DD1 like before, to give you a bit of a break?
Red it's frustrating that to declutter more of a mess has to be made first isn't it? I honestly don't know if there's a way around that!
willow come hide in the naughty corner! <fluffs pillows and blankets> who made the mess? grabs shovel

I hope I didn't miss too many people! I'll be back with some ta das

BloomingHazel · 11/09/2022 16:20

YesTaDas:
🛼 cooked boy's breakfast (DS had a sleepover for his birthday)
🛼 showered, dressed, makeup on, hair done
🛼 took the boys roller-skating. I tried, failed and gave up after less than 5 minutes. I probably need Rollerblades instead, but didn't feel like trying again. They had fun and I enjoyed myself watching them and spending time on mn
🛼 went to grocery store with DH for a couple of things, including a bunch of sunflowers 🌻
🛼 arranged said sunflowers
🛼 made homemade rolls
🛼 cleaned potatoes so DH could smoke them
🛼 made my garlic butter to baste the potatoes with, as well as coat the rolls with it
🛼 made broccoli cheddar soup, ILs came over for dinner last night
🛼 played a couple games with MIL
🛼 rotated DW x2

Ta Das so far (9:20am):
☕️ drinking my 2nd cup of coffee
That's it!
I will get more done today, I have to redo my nails already. I didn't put enough gel builder on this time and they're already chipping 🤬
🍒👋 to everyone, hopefully I'll be back later

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 11/09/2022 17:05

Thanks hazel social media is indeed an absolute minefield. TBH I have stopped using a lot of it - I barely go on Facebook (just use messenger app), hardly ever read any of MN either apart from this and another long running thread. I’m much happier for it.

I have written some chapter notes from the first book (downloaded the chapters I need so I don’t have to keep finding the right bit online). Soooo done with this course, eager to start the next (as it’s specifically my degree subject - psychology - I have enjoyed this course overall but it’s not what I really love reading/writing about!).

Anyway. Going to break up the evening a bit before I go completely crazy ship may have sailed though

po3.3
❗️Fill in known info on calendar blanks and stick them on the right walls
❗️Rewatch some video clips and make notes for essay
❗️Try and make a plan for Cagletini’s first proper week of home ed - she asked to learn more about space so at least that can be left in DH’s capable hands.

Zireael · 11/09/2022 18:46

After rejoining, I too fell off the thread for a few days - oops!

Some decent Ta Da points over the last few days, as well as the usual day to day stuff:
Unclogged shower drain
Finally finished unpacking holiday bags from four weeks ago
Collected loads of stuff from MILs garage that she had been storing for us, brought home and put away
Reorganised and swept out own garage
Delivered five big bags of books to the local Scout hut for their annual book fair

And DH has been doing some flying too!
Booked DS's birthday party
Cleared the enormous hotspot that is our kitchen table

Good luck @HillsBesideTheSea with your exam tomorrow. You mentioned houseplants upthread, I have lots too, seeing them all makes me happy!

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 12/09/2022 00:18

ta da
✏️made presentation slides
✏️wrote script
✏️practised out loud on my own several times to get timing right, tweak words etc
✏️sorted a home ed sub
✏️sorted school system log in and got DD1 to do history homework
✏️wrote lots of notes for essay
✏️watched/listened to online stuff for essay
✏️wrote lots of ideas for Cagletini’s week, and some for DS
✏️changed card info on instant ink

Good luck for exam hills 💐

I expect I’ll be burning the midnight oil with my essay tomorrow night, just have no energy for it now. Hopefully I’ve written enough notes that I can write the rest of the actual essay fairly easily, but tomorrow until 3pm I am strictly focused on work and my interview.
