Hello everyone, and welcome to the May Flylady thread! I have shamelessly copied the OP from the April thread, thank you Sing Flowers

We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist!
I don’t think the regulars would mind me saying that most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.
🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!
🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

Evenin’ all. Happy and relieved to report that DD1 did have a great day! I’m so proud of her, she was so scared but she pushed on and managed to talk to lots of people and make friends. She already knew one person there who introduced her around but she also talked to people in her classes.

My brief spate of productivity ended after maths (which did go well) - being anxious all day just tired me out TBH, I didn’t really feel better until DD1 was home after 7 despite having spoken to her already before that!

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 03/05/2022 20:52

So pleased to hear DD had a good day, Sing. Sounds very positive.

Duet I'm not surprised you hadn't the energy to get up at 5 to exercise. Does anyone, ever?

MrsTidy glad the plants are happy!

Hazel more snow? Surely not! Glad you got things done for the dog though.

🐑 Morning routine
🐑 Actual work finishing a report - nope, new block of printer paper turned out to be Vellum not Cream, so nothing doing while I wait for the right paper to arrive 🤬. Researched something else instead (in very short bursts)
🐑 Lots of that pesky Life Admin that apparently only takes an hour a year, or whatever - sorting out tennis for DS3, booking medical appointments for DD, aligning the diaries etc, paying invoices, weeding filing cabinet
🐑 Take DS3 to the dentist as lunchtime
🐑 Pilates at 6 for me
🐑 Afternoon, post-dinner and evening routines
🐑 Clear flat surfaces in the music room as we don't have a dining room
🐑 Do Zone cleaning in the hall.

Also
❤️ Keep DS3 buoyed up as it has been a bothersome day with a classmate calling him stupid names on discord and maths being very not-dyspraxia-friendly (using a pair of compasses to bisect a line or angle)
🧡 Sit through maths with DS3
💛 Take WillowHound to get nails clipped
💚 Walk to town with DS3 to collect DH's prescription
💙 Give DS3 a haircut as his fringe was so long he couldn't see where he was going and he keeps stuffing a handful of hair in his ear with his earbud 🤣
💜 Cut up a bathmat to make a pedestal mat for the loo (I know, banned on MN like loo brushes, but I have a husband and 3 sons)

Now going to soak out the kinks after Pilates and try for an early night!

Duettino · 03/05/2022 21:05

Oh wow, new school is a terrifying thing! Kids are so cruel but fingers crossed no bullying here. Sometimes being the new kid can help. A stressful day for you both but glad it went well. Long May it continue.

@GreenWillowAndCatkins when I'm in the habit, no issues getting up but it doesn't take a lot to get me out of habit. Last week I had a meeting until midnight as we are a global company and I just haven't bothered to get back into it.

I cleaned up the front of the house from having the hedges cleaned and put all the stuff in the garage. I can't seem to get past the kitchen. I watched the crown as I made homemade pork burgers (lots of chilli), did the dishes and cleaned the kitchen. Just waiting for a load of laundry to finish and then I'm getting into bed. Might put some coconut oil on my hair. What a life!

Mc3209 · 03/05/2022 21:12

<Flaps in, crashes into Naughty corner>
What is happening with time?! It's going by too fast.
Willow sounds like DS3 is having tough time. He has a wonderful mum to support him through it. Hopefully tomorrow will be easier.

Btw, what's wrong with a loo brush?! What's the alternative? (I don't think I want to know..)

Hello to new fledgelings! 😊

Ta das:

  • morning and evening routines done (those are holding pretty well despite sh*t on wheels the April has been)
  • conquered laundry. Washed, dried, and put away
  • decluttered hallway
  • recycling out

I am getting so broody for second baby. So much so that we decided to sort of try for it! The catch is I still haven't seen my period and it's been almost 19 months 🥴 So I am enthusiastically pissing on sticks of various caliber hoping to catch the first egg.

Not ready to stop breastfeeding yet, although McToddler does feed a lot less now (1-2 during the day, and maybe 1-2 at night). I have a sinking feeling this may have something to do with my period taking its time.

Ok, that's enough TMI talk from me (for now 😬)

Mc3209 · 03/05/2022 21:15

Duet homemade burgers 🤤 Yum! I think I spend half my life cleaning kitchen.

Mc agreed re the loo brush, I'm not sticking my hand down there 😲

A meeting at midnight Duet 🤯 I don't know how you manage it

Glad DD1's day went well Sing

Ta-da's:

✨Investigated storage solutions
✨Donated some books
✨Mentally planned the reworking of one room
✨ Cleaned the fridge

EspeciallyDistracted · 03/05/2022 23:09

I bought a new loo brush today <throws self into naughty corner>

☕️ take dog to groomers (anal glands again 🤮)
☕️ give dog a bath afterwards
☕️ wash dogs bedding
☕️ wash our bedding
☕️ clean windows & doors in all entryways couldn't, it was too snowy & rainy today
☕️ wash floor mat by the main (side) door nope
☕️ make ranch dressing changed my mind
☕️ cook hard boiled eggs
☕️ make fat head dough for low carb pizza changed my mind
☕️ cook bacon nope
☕️ bleach bathrooms sigh

I did, however, do the following ta das:
🌸 Skyped mum
🌸 cooked celeriac & tasted it for the 1st time - yum!
🌸 put together a casserole for dinner, made it early
🌸 got my lunch ready for tomorrow
🌸 got my clothes out for tomorrow
🌸 watched the newest Spiderman, we are now ready for Dr Strange 2

DD told me she will be moving out soon, I was expecting that & DH handed in his 2 weeks notice at his job, he will be switching. He's really nervous & stressed about it, but I reminded him, if it doesn't work out, they'll take him back in a heartbeat. If it does work out, it'll be a big pay increase.

Sing I'm glad she ended up having a good day, I thought she might
willow I personally don't like the pedestal mats in the bathroom for the toilet as it grosses me out, but I don't care what other people do in their own homes! Also I do not have a standard toilet brush, but use a toilet wand thing with disposable brushes. Not exactly environmentally friendly, but it's what I prefer. Again, it doesn't matter to me how other people clean their toilets!

EspeciallyDistracted · 04/05/2022 07:03

Morning all,

Today is Weds (I’m still confused after the bank holiday). Still in Zone 1, today’s mission is to dust off your house plants, remove dead leaves etc. We’ve got one in the bedroom which is a terrible dust trap, I sometimes take it outside and leave it there when it’s raining so it gets a shower that way.

Wednesday is also anti-procrastination day, is there anything you’ve been putting off? I have a bill I need to pay.

Ed thanks for doing the thread and many thanks too sing for last month's 🌷🌷❤️❤️

BeanAnTae · 04/05/2022 09:09

I think that's a lovely idea ED to bring your plant out for a shower.

I am on top of things laundry wise but we need to defrost the freezer before I order more food. The shower really needs a clean too.

Lovely day so I'll get myself dressed and go out for a walk.

StillUp · 04/05/2022 09:49

Ooh how exciting Mc. Mine took over a year to come back after DD1, shortly after I stopped BFing completely in the day (we carried on at night only for a while). Your April sounds similar to mine, just managing the basics. However you have the work excuse and I currently don’t Grin

Snow Hazel Shock I have also had to rewash an LOL I’d left to fester in the WM.

My ta Das yesterday were less than impressive. I managed 5 minutes tidying in the dining room. Cooked a bolognese. Spent waaaay to long on the WiFi booster piece of shit thing and it almost went out the window. It’s now turned off until I’ve forgiven it and can start again.

Today MiniUp is a bit snotty and wants cuddles so I’ve gone back to bed with her after a bacon sandwich. DH is working from home this week so my excuse is it’s to stay out of his way. Going to try and get back on top of the laundry and do some zone cleaning. The kitchen floor could do with a mop too. We only have a couple of houseplants to worry about as I seem to kill them off.

ED loving the idea of giving a plant a rain shower

Sorry to read about your dad Dancing

Hope LO feels better soon Up

So far I've spent anti procrastination day procrastinating. Need to find something useful to do, it's not as if there isn't enough of it in the big pile I've been ignoring.

Mc3209 · 04/05/2022 17:39

Dancing sending strength and health vibes to you and your Dad. Well done on sorting the oven, I love the sparkling oven feeling! Easily pleased, me.
Up well, when MiniUp asks for cuddles there is only one thing to be done! Hope the snotties go away soon.
I am hoping my period will come back soon. I am only feeding in the morning and after nursery/when I get home (plus once or twice at night). I am also trying to get enough calories in, trying to trick my body into thinking it can support 3 people 🤣
Bean oh I need to sort my freezer out too. Who knows what's in there..

Ta das:

  • usual routines
  • LOL
  • fishtanks sorted
Duettino · 04/05/2022 19:46

@Dancingtomusic sorry to hear about your dad. I know family issues can be quite tiresome. I hope you'll find a way to make the course work.

I went to the office today so home later. I've decided to do nothing tonight. Im watching amber heard give her side of the story. I don't know about her at all but I find it interesting that people are joking about his comments that they're a similar size and I think that's a sign of abuse. I also wonder if her lawyers are so bad because he ensured they were the only ones she could get. I've only just become interested and I know my comments go against the current narrative so unsure what to think.

Dancingtomusic · 04/05/2022 20:46

Thanks Due, Mc and Up 😘

My dad had his ECG and all seemed fine thank goodness. I feel abit more relieved.

🦄try to stay calm at bedtime with a overtired lil boy....

BeanAnTae · 04/05/2022 21:40

Sorry about your Dad's health Dancing. Perhaps you might be able to do the course more part-time?

Oven cleaning is my least favourite chore but bicarb is fab.

Had a rubbish day at work as overstepped doing something out of enthusiasm and had to grovel and backtrack to boss. Nice man but I should have been more cautious. Difficult week in this house in general but we are all well.

Laundry under control ❤️. Getting haircut tomorrow.

Shower not done but why have anti procrastination day if you don't procrastinate occasionally 😂

Duettino · 04/05/2022 22:10

@BeanAnTae oh no about work! It's a horrible feeling when you do something and wish you could take it back. How bad was it? I'm new at my workplace and still treading carefully just in case but I've still put my foot in it. Doesn't sound like the best boss if you've been over enthusiastic and then had to grovel.

Morning all,

I still haven’t tackled much of Zone 1, but I am making the most of the light evenings to go to the allotment, so I did that while DD cooked dinner last night. Then a small amount of general tidying and she went swimming / I went to the gym. Sat in the car for half an hour putting the world to rights when we arrived home, didn’t resolve anything but it’s good to talk as they say. Then off to bed.

We are forecast a mini-heatwave for next week here, so that will be more allotment time. More time spent now definitely pays off later in the year.

@Dancingtomusic sorry to hear about your Dad, what a worry.

@BeanAnTae oops to work overstep, I suspect we’ve all been there in one way or another

@TidyHouse2022 hope the day off goes well

@Mc3209 I can’t remember when my periods came back between babies, but they do say you mustn’t rely on breastfeeding for contraception so….

Right, better go and jump in the shower
