May the Fledglings Fly with you

Hello everyone, and welcome to the May Flylady thread! I have shamelessly copied the OP from the April thread, thank you Sing Flowers

We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist!
I don’t think the regulars would mind me saying that most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.
🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!
🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

Hazel sorry the plans to see family are frustratingly impossible atm.

Slept the sleep of the sick and feel like crap this morning. Also slept through the alarm and now running terribly late for everything. I need to get up and hustle butt as i need petrol and a trip to a town 2 over to see the bank. They sent me a letter that makes no sense so i am hoping that they can get it to make sense for me.

Other than that there is make sure that is stuff for tea, a load of online stuff and more revision to contend with. Will probably crash out between 11 and midnight again and find 8am impossible to get up for. <sigh> Burnout is a bitch.

BloomingHazel · 30/05/2022 16:20

ED Mum's house is coming along, her bathroom is fitted, tiles are done and she's just waiting on the flooring. I think the kitchen is coming along as well. They should be done by August, I believe. We shall see 🤷‍♀️
A day in London sounds so nice right now!

hills it sounds like you need a holiday for 2 weeks! Or even just one night away 💐
Bean cleaning the shower with a toothbrush 😱 that's hardcore right there! I can see why you're so sore today!
Dancing I'm so happy for you that DH and SIL were on their best behaviour. Your day out sounds perfect!

Our BBQ went well, not as many people showed up as we were expecting, but that was okay. DS had 3 friends come over and they were so clumsy! There were 4 drinks spilled, none of which was water. One of them was a glass bottle of beer that they knocked over on the patio, so that was fun picking up the pieces of glass (no, the beer wasn't his - it was an adult's beer), 1 adult also spilled. We have never had so many drinks make a mess at one of our BBQs!

Plan for today, since I'm home (it's Memorial Day here, so we are closed):
🧼 vacuum the whole house really well (shoes were worn throughout 😡) including the stairs
🧼 clean the hard floors really well (on hands and knees)
🧼 handwash dishes (DW was ran twice last night so it's really not too bad)
🧼 rotate DW
🧼 laundry
🧼 relax 😌
We woke up to it snowing this morning, not sticking though so it's just wet, but it's so yucky outside 😔

BloomingHazel · 30/05/2022 18:50

Some ta das:
🐝 vacuumed upstairs thoroughly
🐝 mopped hardwood floors thoroughly (on hands and knees) & bathroom floors
🐝 wiped down some walls, door frames and light switches
🐝 2nd LOL in washer, 1st in dryer
🐝 DH vacuumed the stairs and downstairs for me, while I finished mopping upstairs
🐝 currently airing out the house while I sit and drink some water

BloomingHazel · 31/05/2022 05:57

Last of the ta das:
💐 rotated DW
💐 2 more LOLs
💐 relaxed
💐 helped DD sort out a prescription
💐 helped DH get his bicycle ready for DS (he's starting cross training in the morning) he won't need it until Monday, but we had to make sure it will work for him with some adjustments

I didn't even put a bra on this morning! It was so nice! It's not something I usually do, but may have to do that more often 😅
I have to work up earlier than normal (for a Tuesday) since DS has to be at the fields by 7am 😴
🍒👋 to everyone. I feel like I broke the thread, oops 😬 sorry 😞

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 31/05/2022 07:05

You didn't break the thread Hazel, MN have done that all on their own! Sorry it's snowing on you again, is that out of character for May?

Dancing I'm glad DH and SIL were on best behaviour, although it shouldn't be too much to ask of two adults!

Hills sorry you are burnt out. When can you properly rest? Hope the bank explain themselves.

🍒👋 to everyone, I think the new platform has eaten Red, Mc, Fly, zoo, foxes and lots of our newbies and other people we value 😢.

YesTaDa
❤️ Lots of writing
🧡 Went to GP with The Knee That Goes Clunk. I have water on the knee from crawling about the floor pinning DD's dress pattern (like housemaid's knee, but at the side not under the kneecap) and must rest it for 6 weeks... Honestly, every time I fix a broken bit of me another bit falls off 🙄
💛 Menu plan
💚 Tesco order

Ta Didn't
🔕 Home bleugh
🔕 Painting the bookshelves
🔕 Finished DD's dress - I've fitted it but it needs lining and I haven't got enough I don't think.

Not sure what's afoot today, so I am currently just enjoying the quiet!

EspeciallyDistracted · 31/05/2022 07:09

Don’t worry about breaking the thread Hazel, I think MN have a lot to answer for, I really hope some of the Fledglings who are struggling with it can manage to post again soon.

Hills - hope you got some better sleep last night.

<waves at all the other Fledglings, wafts coffee and croissants in front of the naughty corner to try and tempt some of them out>

Well, it was a work day for me yesterday so not too much Flying, I went swimming in the evening too, first time in yonks.

Today is the last day of May, that has gone quickly, would anyone like to volunteer for June? I can carry on if not.

So, last day in the living room. Our mission is detailed vacuuming.

HillsBesideTheSea · 31/05/2022 08:30

When can i rest? January next year. <sigh>
which is totally not practical. I was going to say November but realised that by then full prep for Christmas would be full flow.

I managed to get restful sleep. Not enough but some. I am hoping that once this round of exams are done that some weight will be lifted. But it is a constant struggle between things demanding attention atm. And the house is losing.

Today is a "lost" day like yesterday. Bank were helpful, errand were run but the books were not picked up. Today is car into garage and smear day. which is also going to be a lot of faffing about and not so much focused study and I really really need to get some things sorted in the kitchen. it is a complete student diggs archetype disaster in there Hmm The fun of 4 people cooking and only one staying on top of the washing up - allergy control reasons. But bad things might have been voiced to happen to the next person leaving the washing up sponge floating in mucky water. Bad bad things. Blush

First up clothes to be worn into dryer, other stuff on line. Copious amounts of coffee into blood stream.

Also why is frick is it only 9C and flipping freezing?!

EspeciallyDistracted · 31/05/2022 08:44

I have been asking myself thr same thing Hills, our heating clicked on last night (thermostat is at 18°) first time in weeks.

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 31/05/2022 13:42

Bugger. Covid has entered the Hill's house hold. One people down, one close contact. Thankfully as me and ds are unsociable critters we will hopefully have had minimal exposure. But one medical appointment cancelled, exam centre policy for covid checked and i now need to deep clean the kitchen so I can have a cup of coffee without worrying about the state of it. <sigh> also gotta move everything that is in storage in the out of action big bathroom so that ds can pee without fear of someone accidentally walking in because the cloakroom is for the plagued one, and the other bathroom is an on-suite you walk through to access the bedroom.

Can i get a drama free month please? Only saving grace is that all important errands have been completed. But seriously <sigh>
Large coffee IV drip to go please...

(also sorry but i can't take on the thread next month, over committed. Maybe able to do July or August depending on what happens to exams in this mess)

BloomingHazel · 31/05/2022 14:29

willow the weather here is unpredictable this time of year, so there really is no "normal" iyswim. The only thing I've come to expect is wind, and lots of it 🙄
I really hope your knee heals soon, at least it's not everything at once, but still, don't be so rough on your body 😉 😅 I really am joking about that, it's not nice to be doing stuff you've done for years and your body says nope, not today!
hills oh no! That's the last thing you need right now. A bit unfair though that people still aren't cleaning up after themselves, that I don't understand! Especially when you're allergic to things they can eat! ☕️ for you
ED unfortunately I won't be able to take over the thread, I'm sorry. I'm actually ahead and did the detailed vacuuming yesterday!

I have dropped off DS at cross country, he's there 7am-8:30am. I'm currently enjoying my 2nd cup of coffee for the day, under a blanket on the couch, with the dog snoring next to me!
I will have to cook DHs eggs for the week in a few minutes, so enjoying the peace and quiet, well almost 💤🐶

BloomingHazel · 31/05/2022 14:31

I know this one isn’t very full but tradition demands a new one at the start of each month

BeanAnTae · 31/05/2022 22:51

Thank you Ed and for May.

Dancingtomusic · 31/05/2022 23:05

Ed- thank you for the lovely food!

Hazel - you havent broken the thread.
To be braless is the best state.
Hills- oh no covid!

Willow- ouch, does your knee hurt?

Is anyone attending any Jubilee parties?

Tadas-
I was in soft play hell in the afternoon.

Spent the morning pissed off at goggle doc, pdf and word version documents.

Argh. Fledglings-
If you are reading this...please come say hello .🍒👋🍸🍹🌈

BeanAnTae · 31/05/2022 23:07

I'm here!!!🌷🌷🌷🌷

BeanAnTae · 31/05/2022 23:11

Aw no Hills I hope it's not a bad bout.

I am due medical tests tomorrow and am a bit jittery. Ds has been off school but is thankfully better and can go to school.

Dancing are you and the fraggles partying for the Jubilee? No party in my area but I will think of Her Majesty on the day.

BeanAnTae · 31/05/2022 23:13

Get well soon to Willow and her knee 🌼

Ed DH has started to go swimming for mental health reasons ( being married to me)

ExtremelyDedicated · 31/05/2022 23:27

Aw Bean, have you been threatening him with the Fledglings rusty pike? Fingers crossed your appt goes well tomorrow.

Hills - sorry to hear about the Covid. DH and DS managed to avoid it when DD and I had it in March despite us all sharing one bathroom.

Dancing - we have got a Jubilee street party here on Sun but the forecast is for non-stop rain. We had another torrential downpour this afternoon, the plants at my allotment will be happy, as will the slugs.

Hazel - gorgeous doggy pic.

BeanAnTae · 31/05/2022 23:30

No pike just stern looks ed! Thanks for the good wishes.

I read a tabloid story about Her Majesty's jet having to try landing again after coming in from Aberdeen 😱

Dancingtomusic · 01/06/2022 04:03

Bean- I love giving out a stern look! Lol
Hills- hope the people are ok?
Hazel- that was alot of smashed glass for a bbq- that fustrating.

Weather is just being silly.

Ed- street party sounds lovely.

I have had my head in a laptop for the past week so I have missed what is going on around me.
The mums on the school whatsapp group are sharing events in the area. I think we will visit a farm park that is celebrating the jubilee.
I am awake as I am worried about driving with the kids 54mins to visit a friend. Never been there or to that area. Cursing myself- why did I volunteer to visit? What on earth possessed me to say- I'll come to you? Was it because my house is a mess? Yes. 🤦‍♀️

BloomingHazel · 01/06/2022 04:19

dancing thank goodness only one of the drinks involved a glass bottle! The others were cans (and one bottle was just tipped over, not dropped and broken) I actually miscounted, it was 5 drinks spilled 🤨
You'll be fine re driving, just focus on the next turn/ landmark and you'll be there before you know it. Enjoy spending time with your friend!

Dancingtomusic · 01/06/2022 19:24

Hazel- thanks. Managed to lose signal on google maps and went on a grand tour .....actually considered parking up and telling H to resuce us.
The road was a twisty road that had huge dips and hills 😅 . I did get to my friends house, it was lovely to see her. The drive back was much better as the map stayed on and I recognised the road names.
Phew....

No flying done. 100 points to my little fraggles that were super in the car. I wanted to give up but didnt because of them.

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/06/2022 21:25

Glad you manage the drive Dancing We have decamped to the June thread Here
