The Minimalism Game February edition!

Time for a new thread! The aim is to declutter your home, removing 1 item on the 1st of the month, 2 on the 2nd, 3 on the 3rd, and so on up to 28 items on the 28th. By the end of the month, you will have decluttered over 400 items!

I will be posting daily.

I have some items left from my clothes boxes towards the next day and I just went through a school book box and an art one for the kids . Threw lots away mostly going to recycling but kept quite a bit too . I might weed the art further later but I’m happy with tonight’s efforts . Now I have 10 boxes left . We received our 6 dining room chairs and a wine cabinet for the dining room and my new storage boxes so also a lot of packaging going out as well . as I go through old dirty storage locker boxes they are going out too .

Day 24

• 1 pair of linen trousers
• 10 dresses
• 3 wool dresses all to charity
• 2 pairs of pants to rags
• 5 plastic folders to bin
• 3 years worth of DS school books and notes

mainly to recycling

Day 25

• 5 y worth of DD school work books and notes mainly to recycling
• 1 reading record to recycling
• DS art from nursery and school mainly to recycling
• 15 old storage boxes
• 3 kids books

I went through one more box ;the cards I’ve kept birthday , anniversary , engagement etc .
I thought I’d keep them all but I looked through them and some going to recycling which is better than nothing .
Day 26

• 40 cards

Spent most of the week/end trying to sort the garden ready for the summer.

Day 20 - 16 old plant pots recycled in the garden, 4 half packets of seeds planted

Day 21 - 14 brochures/instruction leaflets from items we no longer own, 3 boxes that were being used to store garden items and broken bucket to bin, 4 garden lights left on a shelf connected up to the others

Day 22 - 19 old surplus bamboo canes recycled, used up 3 almost empty bottles of various plant feeds

Day 23 - half a bag of potting mix used, 4 containers replanted, 18 plants that have been boxed up all winter potted up ready to plant out

Sleepless here again …
Haven’t gone back to decluttering the storage boxes yet but I’ve gotten rid of other items while busy with housework and admin that seems endless . How the hell can there always be so much of it ?! I feel like I’m always scrambling to try to get it all done and I try to tick things off right away if they’re quick jobs and do as many things as I can ahead of time .
Day 27

• 2 of my old pyjama bottoms
• 1 pyjama top
• 3 fabric masks
• 2 pairs of socks all to rags
• 1 destroyed pencil case and it’s contents at the end of term ( I don’t understand what DD does to them ?!)
• 1 useless sharpener
• 6 permanent markers
• 5 DD too small crop tops
• 5 DD too small pants
• 1 old dog tag

I folded the huge clean laundry mountain tonight it’s been waiting a while so glad to get it done !
Day 28

• 23 pairs of old socks
• 4 pairs of pants
• 1 T-shirt all to rags

DH took the day off and got a few jobs done around the house and we both had admin then also went out for a lunch before school and dog pickup which is very rare without the kids . I have many outstanding issues to sort out and him too so it’ll be a busy weekend . On Sunday we are off to a hopefully nice lunch out though ! I’ll try to get back to my boxes in the dining room , 9 still left

DH did a bunch of errands ,and jobs around the house today ; took 2 loads to the dump of garden waste and packaging, clothes bank stuff , old storage boxes etc . Then he went to empty some of the storage locker which is nearly done although I still have those 9 boxes here to look through . He brought back a load most of which is going to dump tomorrow morning .only keeping a new seagrass rug that’s finally not smelly , unused garment bags I’ve been needing , some mailing envelopes , a new large garden lantern we bough for this house , DH laptop bag and a small hand luggage . Another two car boot fulls left in the locker due to the size of the changing table . DH can maybe finish it next weekend . Will possibly have to store the buggy here until it’s sold hopefully listing it soon .
Day 29

• 1 wooden shelf
• 6 old storage boxes
• 2 hanging shelves
• 2 feather cushions
• 1 pair of old school shoes
• 5 pairs of old school socks at the end of term next it’s summer socks for DD
• 2 fans
• 1 heater
• 2 cardboard boxes from mailing envelopes
• 2 cot sides and other parts
• 4 wooden kids hangers
• lots of cardboard and other packaging from furniture and deliveries

Day 30

• 9 plastic hangers to recycling
• 2 pairs of pants
• 2 pairs of pyjamas both to recycling
• 1 pair of DS trainers that rubbed his toes
• 1 pair of DD old trainers
• 3 open packets of dog chews he doesn’t care for to bin
• 5 packets of old Christmas food from the larder to bin / food disposal
• 4 grubby dog toys to bin
• 3 kids books to charity

Coming here to be accountable. I have had more than one issue deal with this month so have the last 7 days to do. Going to update as soon as I can.

Thanks SuperDiaperBaby I was starting to feel a bit lonely here ! I have last day to do . I’ve been derailed a bit with other stuff inc trying organise going to see my family in Finland for the first time in 2,5 y . We’ve cancelled it twice before after booking everything so I’ll believe it when I see it . Now I’m in a hurry since we still have a lot of medical etc app leading up to it . DD breaks of for her holidays tomorrow , DS has had this week off already and has been revising and helping with the dog and picking up DD which has been a luxury . I’ve been feeling slightly ill so super tired and feel like nothing is getting done especially today . Day 31 might take a while for me but I’ll do it !

So I managed to finish off March but it was an absolute slog due to dumps/recycling centres being closed due to strikes & then my car having to go in for work & everything was just piling up around me & it all became a bit disheartening🙃
I haven't started April, not sure if I should give it a break for a month or just do a couple of items a day to try & keep on top of it. Has anyone else got a game plan for this month?

I’ve finally finished and that’s it for me . I’ll be on the other decluttering thread , there’ll be plenty of that still left . We are finishing the storage locker after our trip to Finland . So much to do in general I feel like I’m drowning and DH is always exhausted and going to bed very late too .

Day 31

• 1 tin of yucky mints
• 3 more permanent markers
• 1 biro without a lid
• 1 broken school water bottle all to bin
• 1 large storage box from garage to dump
• 2 of my old pyjamas
• 4 pairs of DD too small pants
• 2 of DS old pants
• 1 pair of tights

• 1 pair of DS small trousers to charity

Well done @tabbycat985 and @Nordicmom I so pleased for you both that you finished. I will try to have that final push this week but have been occupied with relative in hospital for 10 days so the push may not start for a few days yet. I am determined to keep going despite the slight hiccup - I feel better for the start I have made

After saying I wasn't going to continue with this month, I've just spend the entire day clearing out & have a colossal pile of things for the charity shop, clothing bank, dump & Olio! (Majority if it isn't pictured & already in my car to go!)
I am so pleased, I think the pressure of not having to make up to a number helped😅

Hi all! I would love to join as now I've had two skips in three years, I feel like I'm ready for the hard stuff! My goal today is this heap of kids magazines/sticker books. Tbh they don't really go back to them once they've covered each other in duggee/numberblocks stickers and done the puzzles.
