Time for a new thread! The aim is to declutter your home, removing 1 item on the 1st of the month, 2 on the 2nd, 3 on the 3rd, and so on up to 28 items on the 28th. By the end of the month, you will have decluttered over 400 items!

I will be posting daily.

Well done @tabbycat985 and @SuperDiaperBaby on the bigger numbers, it's very motivating

@Nordicmom I'm being nosy, is it an older or newer house? I'm too invested in your progress and number if windows. Grin

It’s a brand new one with lots of rooms …

Nordicmom · 04/02/2022 13:17

Day 4

  • 4 unused shower gels DH bought and I rejected to food bank
SuperDiaperBaby · 04/02/2022 17:08

19 soft toys, 2 jigsaws and a blanket to charity shop (22) old broken wash kit and suit bag to bin, tatty towel to recycling. Total 25.
Hoping to use this weekend to sorting some more areas for the big numbers and getting everything out the door. I am trying not to let the bags build up because I quickly get fed up and stop decluttering.

Nordicmom · 04/02/2022 18:33

Our shutters are done and they’re looking great ! We did order two more for a couple of bathrooms but those windows are frosted so it’s not a hurry . They do really “ make the room “ as they said and look like they belong here I think . This weekend finally decluttering a mountain of paper blinds ,pellets and other packaging from DH garage furniture that just arrived . Of course one cupboard was the wrong colour so there’s another thing to sort out as usual . Also need him to make a few boxes of charity shop stuff disappear hopefully so I can fill them up again .
I’m afraid I’ll add another picture ,I’m so pleased with the results in this open plan living/ dining room ! Still decorating hence the empty shelves etc although I quite like the more bare look . Less to clean !

It's beautiful @Nordicmom!! I have a small, old cottage, big rooms, a bit quirky. I live ut, so much, but it can be a real pain to keep tidy and clean. It seems to encourage clutter.

Day 4.
2 packs bubble wrap.
2 folders

OP posts:
FrugalFrancine · 05/02/2022 08:07

Yikes, forgot about this, so playing catch up today!

Day 3:

  1. serum bottle finished and binned (I know this may not be decluttering as such, but to me it is as I so rarely actually finish cosmetics, rather, I just keep buying them)

  2. toner bottle also finished and in the recycling

  3. Saved By Cake cookbook (which I bought secondhand accidentally - thought it was a novel)

Day 4:

4 x bras I don't wear, including two sports bras - I don't do the sort of sport where I actually need these and find them so uncomfortable

Day 5:

  1. some boots which are like new, but realistically, I'm not going to wear them (high heel)

2, 3, 4, 5) 5 x books I've read and am unlikely to re read

All the books and the boots are going to the charity shop. The bras are going to the textile recycling bin

ImFree2doasiwant · 05/02/2022 09:15

@FrugalFrancine I'm counting cosmetics abd toiletries as have so small similar products open. Also, kids activity/colouring books. Sooooo many, imgettingvthem to work through them.

gincakecomps · 05/02/2022 10:17

Starting today so will try to catch up. So far-
Opened product will not use
Magazine out with the recycling
Pile of random kids scribbles

gincakecomps · 05/02/2022 10:25

Empty paint tube
Unusable paint brush
Random pen lin

Nordicmom · 05/02/2022 10:50

Day 5

  • 3 old Orbi Wi-Fi boosters going to Mil or the dump electronics collection
  • 1 old cheap blood sugar monitor that wasn’t so reliable so I’ll just use my other one
  • 1 book DH finished to charity
tabbycat985 · 05/02/2022 12:59

25- towel x2, cereal bowl, dress bag, medicine x2, cards x12, ribbon, sweets, hangers x2, packaging, fairy lights, fridge bits (there questionably long).

I'm seem to somehow still be picking up bits & pieces without having to properly look for them, just shows how much rubbish is in my house because everything today was directly to the bin/recyclingSad

SuperDiaperBaby · 05/02/2022 14:13

Nordic I can only dream of living with such a clear home. Amazing.
Tabby we are all clearing rubbish - whether it is for the bin or the charity shop we have been giving space in our home to something we did not want or need. I have freecycled an item I had not used for more than 20 years - that is madness.

Today 2 hats, 10 t shirts and 7 shorts to charity, jumper, trousers and 2 items of underwear to textile recycling some collar stiffeners binned. 24 items in total.
Charity shop run done, 4 freecycled items being collected today and only one listed not claimed. I am pleased. Off to set aside some more to sort for next week.

gincakecomps · 05/02/2022 19:57

4x dead felt tips

Nordicmom · 05/02/2022 22:08

I’ll post you guys a picture of the garage and the attic and you’ll faint 😁! Most of the rooms I’ve managed to make all clear and maintain in this 4 m old house by constantly putting things away the others have left and nagging at them to do it . places like kids room , DH room and the study I just have to go to daily to interfere with and tidy myself when they’re not there or they’ll get worse quickly . None of them care and leave everything lying around and things get dusty and grubby etc even though it’s meant to be DS 17 weekly job . I hate having to be the bloody policing 3 other people and nag at them every damn day but from experience nothing happens otherwise .

ImFree2doasiwant · 06/02/2022 10:14

I forgot to update yesterday.

Day 5
5 snall items from the bedside bowl of "trinkets" not much I know but equally no idea what they were ir why they were there!

OP posts:
ImFree2doasiwant · 06/02/2022 10:15

I know I have some school uniform to go abd have asked the school if they want it, they do so will be bagging it up today.

I'm also going to have a rummage in the hall for things that don't need to be there, along with my bedside table.

OP posts:
ImFree2doasiwant · 06/02/2022 12:43

Day 6
6 kids toys. Again small stuff but they have loads of it!

I'm keeping a note if everything, I'm on about 90 items this month and am just adding the daily amount here and ticking them off my list. I'll struggle at the end of the month otherwise

OP posts:
Nordicmom · 06/02/2022 12:54

DH has just walked out with the charity shop boxes I’ll pray they won’t come back !!!!
Btw I just got a nice thank you letter back from the dog charity I sent some unused dog toys to mine couldn’t use . It was nice they made the effort back and I like thinking about one of the rescues enjoying what we had no use for !!!

Day 6

  • 4 wooden pellets from the new garage furniture going to dump
  • 1 big workbench going to dump ,some of it to the metal collection
  • 1 set of over the door metal hooks to dump metal collection
RestingStitchFace · 06/02/2022 13:03

Right, so playing catch up with this. Having done the maths, if I start today (6th) I need to find 21 items to be up to date with everyone else.

Challenge Accepted!!

FrugalFrancine · 06/02/2022 13:22

Day 6:

  1. boilersuit; listing on Vinted

  2. dress; also listing on Vinted!

  3. old stereo; sold to Cex

4, 5, 6) some more books! Dh kindly parcelled up loads of them yesterday to sell to one of those book buying places. I never bother Blush, as it's a lot of faff for not a lot of money, so I usually just give them to the charity shop

Sexnotgender · 06/02/2022 13:28

What an amazing idea!

I’m (potentially) moving country in a few months and I have an unbelievable amount of shite in my house.

I’ve been ebaying and Facebook selling like mad. Sold over £1k worth of stuff in the last few weeks and charity shopped loads.

Barely made a dent 🙈

I’m in…

RestingStitchFace · 06/02/2022 13:34

Bathroom cabinet:
1 x bag of empty cardboard boxes, wrappers and rubbish.

6 x boxes of out of date medicines

3 x empty deodorants
2 x old bottles Sun cream
1 X out of date Veet
8 x various hair care products, smellies that are not used

= 21 items. All caught up and ready for tomorrow!

Oh Super I need that encouragement! It's a relief to know that there are other people in the same boat. We've only been in this house a year & I can't fathom why we boxed up & paid money to move some of this stuff!

I've somehow confused myself & have two days to do,

24- T-shirt x3, trousers x2, suit jacket x2, hoodie, pajamas x2, boxers x9, bra, shirt, plant, ornaments x2.

23- expired vitamins x8, toothbrush, baking cupboard items x6, teapot, mug, glass jars x2, breast pump, bowl, shoes, blanket.

Lots of items in the charity shop pile & some pooped up on Olio & have been collected already!
I might brave Vinted next & see if I can't sell some of the more expensive bits that I'm hanging onto only because I spent so much on themBlush
