Oooh actually I have declutter we something today had a wonderful day home with all children watching big jet TV and the storm I decluttered a big container of soaking fruit and made 2 Jamaican cakes! they're still baking house smells lovely and I'll give 1 away

seperatedmum · 18/02/2022 16:57

and a child broke a cup so that's gone

Gassylady · 18/02/2022 17:07

I’ve been missing in in action for a while 🙄 Welcome to all the new declutterers, reading through everyone’s efforts (new and old) has worn me out 🤣 Just treading water really keeping up with post, recycling and fishing all the holey socks out of the washing. Half term coming up so will hopefully find the motivation to go through kids wardrobes.

londonmummy1966 · 18/02/2022 18:21

@WildPoinsettia - my rule on books at the moment is are they relatively cheap on Kindle - if so out they go. Have suggested DH looks at his library of political biographies and lets some of them go. One of the local tube stations has a bookshelf and the area is crawling with politicos so it seems like a good place to send them..

Welcome back Gassy - I'm also hoping that half term will bring some wins from the DC.

Have done nothing today except curl up in a blanket and read....

WildPoinsettia · 18/02/2022 21:20

Another out: a blanket so old it's gone saggy in the middle and torn there. It's covered in bobbles that I can't help picking off but it's a job that'll never end and not a good use of my time. I've had it since a child and it feels like saying goodbye to an old friend.

FurBabyMum02 · 18/02/2022 21:48

Had another good kitchen day today, DS had a mammoth 3 hour nap so I got loads done, only 4 more kitchen cupboards left and then defrosting the freezer. 69 items out today. How does a room where everything gets used up and replaced each week still manage to accumulate so much rubbish! 879 items out so far!

ememem84 · 19/02/2022 09:29

Went to house yesterday. Builders have removed the wall between kitchen and living room and taken the chimney stack down. Am I still winning at decluttering?!?? 😂😀

Also ripped my favourite pair of jeans. So annoyed. Did that stupid thing of pulling them up by the beltloops and ripped at the seams. So they’re gone.

Ds also knee skidded through ANOTHER pair of his trousers.

Pineappleapple · 19/02/2022 12:12

Queenie, yes we too would like some more space but then we think we do like our house when it's tidy! Think realistically we would want another bedroom/ study in the next couple of years so we are keeping an eye out on houses. Definitely don't want to pay to move our rubbish! Moving house was definitely a good way to get rid of things as I found I either had to pack something or get rid, no option to just leave it in a cupboard.
I've had some time today but mainly tidied and cleaned, house was looking awful. Previously identified pjs have now made it to the charity bag.
Could do with another few hours to do so much more but but going to happen unfortunately!

Pineappleapple · 19/02/2022 12:17

Fur baby wow a 3 hour nap! My daughter had never ever done that! Bet you were just waiting for him to wake up!
I did chuck some kitchen stuff now I think of it, some old bits in the fridge and a manky looking cup.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 19/02/2022 16:36

Well I spent too long fannying about with the books I was going to send to webuybooks and now they don't want them anymore. There is a lesson to be learned here! I've put them back in the garage for now till I decide what to do with them.

Trying to tackle the office, got rid of more papers and some empty boxes. Put some papers that need to be filed at the office aside. I'm still surrounded by shit lol.

Nordicmom · 19/02/2022 18:06

I’ve finally managed to deal with more attic stuff ;the difficult kids clothes . I got rid of contents of two storage boxes to charity today and am emptying few items already sorted from another to DD drawers to be used on weekends and another box of too big clothes for her then I have one with just a few baby bits in it , one with a few coats and one full of stuff I have already put aside to be kept earlier I just want to go through again then I’m finally done unless more boxes of kids clothes are found from the storage but DH tells me there aren’t any there . I nearly filled two last night with items I want to keep and I think if I keep one more then going from 8 to 3 is good enough atm and a lot of space saved ! I find looking at and handling them hard though but I want to finish the job and get onto other things in the attic room so we can eventually start moving some of the storage locker stuff there while hopefully clearing lots . DH is away for the weekend with the kids . I’m not feeling well I’ve been Ill but hopefully I can get more done here .

Pineappleapple · 19/02/2022 19:33

Dead living girl that's so annoying! Were they worth much on we buy any books? I'd be tempted to charity shop them just to get it done.

Nordic mum sounds good.

Did well this afternoon, persuaded OH to go through a box of papers, turned out not to be all papers and almost everything could go. Also found some pjs and a cardigan that can go. A trip to the charity shop in town done, probably a carrier bag worth but some heavy stuff so thought I may as well get it gone. I like to get rid quickly once I've made the decision, I never go back on the decisions but I like to gain the space asap. Also found an optician to take 4 old pairs of glasses.

londonmummy1966 · 19/02/2022 19:51

Fairly quiet on the declutter front today - 4 grotty pair of knickers in the bin (replaced earlier in the week so just a neutral); 4 books to the bookshelf at a local tube station and a bag of felt to a friend who runs a brownie pack.

The big "in" today was DD2 back from school with a huge suitcase. She insists it is mainly revision as she has mocks when she gets back so I'm hoping it will all go back to school again after half term.

EllieQ · 19/02/2022 22:21

More stuff out of the house today as I took two of DD’s old coats and a toddler snowsuit to a charity shop. The shop also takes toys, so I’m going to take her old baby walker (one of those v-tech one with music and toys) there next week.

There is one raincoat that I might try to sell on FB as it’s a Joules one that I got secondhand but is still in very good condition. I’m undecided as people on FB marketplace can be so unreliable!

seperatedmum · 20/02/2022 08:34

just throwing out a non sharpie which I've got to use and is dead. otherwise we're going out today and I've had flat refusals to help in house from older 2. very very frustrated if I'm honest 🥺

LivingDeadGirlUK · 20/02/2022 10:59

Would anyone like to guess how many dried up old glue sticks I found in one shoebox? :D All in the bin now. I have a LOT of stationary that I probably don't need, I will go through and check which pens are working to start with.

Pineappleapple · 20/02/2022 12:19

Living dead girl 7 is my guess! I found 4 recently!

Gassylady · 20/02/2022 15:14

LivingDeadGirlUK I’d go with 6 - nice round number, and one I could easily imagine coming across in a forgotten corner of our house GrinShock

LivingDeadGirlUK · 20/02/2022 16:07

It was 6! 5 of which never used yet shriveled to half the size.

I've done half my desk now and also dusted it, the remaining half is the worst though. Realised I'm making all this effort for a nice work space and I'm going into the office tomorrow anyway!

Gassylady · 20/02/2022 18:31

Dont send them my way as a prize! GrinShock

Gassylady · 20/02/2022 18:32

Two ebay parcels posted this week nothing else to report

WildPoinsettia · 20/02/2022 22:15

In the bin: one comfortable but tatty pair of shoes. I have plenty more.

FurBabyMum02 · 21/02/2022 08:18

@pineappleapple it was a rare gem straight after swimming, must have really worn him out bless him.

Kitchen is complete! Got the freezer defrosted yesterday and did some baking in my now lovely organised neat tidy and deep cleaned kitchen.

1 more room left, our bedroom, hopefully I can stop getting attacked by clothes everytime I go in the wardrobe! Then the dreaded loft and the shed/outside, and then probably need to revisit DS drawers as he's grown again. So feels nearly done but kinda not really lol.

Pineappleapple · 21/02/2022 11:48

Fur baby, booking swimming lessons now...!!

I keep putting my least favourite hangers in a bag, will put on freecycle or somewhere when there are a chunk of them. Last time I did that someone wanted them. least favourite sounds a ridiculous thing to say about hangers now I write it down. Getting rid of all the random ones that came with stuff I bought, then some flimsy ones.

Would like to do a little bit today, will aim for 2 things to keep it achievable with a toddler around

WildPoinsettia · 21/02/2022 16:09

Pineapple I feel you with the hangars. I did the same years ago. Just annoys me so much if they're not all the same size and shape, everything hanging at different heights aaarrrrrgh. I never thought anyone would want them though so they went for recycling.

Furbaby I miss baking and the smells wafting round the house. Nothing beats hot fresh cake. I should get back to it.

Last pile of the cardboard recycling mountain goes out today. I'm finding it hard to declutter anything else except rubbish. I really don't like getting rid of useable things.
