Looking to decluuter the kitchen a bit and looking online people don't seem to have anything out . Not even a toaster! Do they just get it out of a cupboard everytime they use it? I have out toaster, nutri bullet, magimix, actifry. It feels too much. But have no room in cupboards to put it. What do you do?

None. I loathe clutter.

We have a boiling water tap, so no kettle. Microwave and toaster live in a cupboard.

The kitchen aid sits on a shelf under the island, and that’s only because it’s good-looking.

Itonlytakesonetree · 29/12/2021 14:26

Kettle and microwave. And a Sonos, but obv not a kitchen thing per se.

minimecantrollerskate · 29/12/2021 14:26

kettle, toaster, microwave, slow cooker, steamer, sandwich toaster, egg cooker, soup maker, sodastream, tassimo. It's a tiny kitchen so every surface is covered, but the cupboard space is very limited so no room in there.

CorpusCallosum · 29/12/2021 14:28

Things that get used daily: kettle, coffee maker, soda stream, toaster, nutribullet & the caddy for kitchen food waste.

It's a case of insta vs reality though isn't it?? In terms of everyday living it would be such a faff to get them in and out of cupboards every day. But, if the kitchen was being photographed for an interior design IG post they'd go away.

smurfsss · 29/12/2021 14:29

Well, firstly what you see online is staged. Appliances and gadgets have been moved. I know, we've done this for photographs

On any given day we have:
Toaster
Kettle
Vitamix
Velvetiser
Smart meter gadget thing

Used to have the Tommee Tippee machine on the counter too when DC had bottles.

We also have all our cooking oils and salt and pepper on the countertop, plus a few cookbooks that were recently used, plus thick wooden chopping boards.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/12/2021 14:34

We have masses of counterspace and relatively small amount of counter space. So lots of things live on counters... grill, microwave, spice rack, knife block, kettle, juices, drinks canisters, toaster, fruit bowl, kenwood chef....

daisyjgrey · 29/12/2021 14:35

I am no minimalist, I am also lazy.

Kettle, coffee machine, utensils, salt, pepper, oils, spices, bread machine, magimix processor, magimix blender, kitchen aid, bread bin, some jars of flour and sugar for baking, butter dish, a couple of cook books and a partridge in a pear tree.

evilharpy · 29/12/2021 14:38

On worktops:

Two kettles (one normal, one gooseneck for making pour over coffee multiple times a day)
Toaster
Thermomix
Plus bread bin, knife block and a couple of very frequently used cookbooks for breadmaker and thermomix and BeRo tucked in beside the bread bin

On a trolley at the side that also holds saucepans/frying pans and baking tins:
Microwave
Breadmaker

In the cupboards:
Kenwood mixer
Actifry
Electric pressure cooker
Toastie maker
Waffle maker
Omelette maker (don't laugh, I'm more than capable of making an omelette in a pan but I bloody love it)
Stick blender used exclusively for making mashed potato with a special attachment

All of the above are used frequently with the exception of the waffle maker, but we do like waffles for breakfast as a treat once in a blue moon so I wouldn't get rid of it.

Utensils all live in drawers, and tea and coffee live in canisters in the same cupboard as mugs and V60/aeropress/moka pots which is right above the kettles.

ExquisitelyDecorated · 29/12/2021 14:42

We have quite a few out. It's not because we don't have cupboard space, we do, it's a new kitchen but I really, really hate bare kitchens, showroom style, I like a lived in look.

Food processor - new and haven't decided whether to keep it out or find cupboard space for.
Stand mixer - used frequently and a bit heavy to put away easily
Toaster (stainless steel dualit, looks lovely and used most days)
Velvetiser - used daily
Coffee grinder - also used daily
Teapot and tea caddy stay out too, they are both attractive.
Bread bin
Knives are on a magnetic strip on the wall
Kitchen roll is on a magnetic holder on the side of the fridge

No microwave (it's in the garage as rarely used), no kettle because we have a boiling water tap.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 29/12/2021 14:43

Kettle and toaster (I purchased a new one of each in a slimline design as space is limited) tea, coffee and sugar caddy. Bread bin. Phone and radio on breadbin. Microwave next to breadbin.

Induction cooker on an island (in the sun) no, I mean directly in front of the sink with a gangway between both.

Putting the toaster away between uses gets me to screaming point.

katplva · 29/12/2021 14:50

Kettle, pot of utensils, spice rack and toaster on the main bit. Blender and egg box thing in an unused corner. I’d love a clear minimalist kitchen but it is not going to happen.

ChequerBoard · 29/12/2021 14:54

We have just had a new kitchen fitted and have gone from having kettle, coffee machine toaster, air fryer, utensils, blender etc to now absolutely nothing out on the worktop.

We have a quicker tap so no kettle and have a tambour unit that houses the air fryer, coffee machine, blender and toaster. All the utensils are now housed in a drawer under the hob.

I love having clear worktops, makes cleansing so much easier and the kitchen looks bigger somehow!

golddustwomen · 29/12/2021 14:57

Microwave, kettle and Alexa!

chipshopElvis · 29/12/2021 15:19

I had a brand new lovely kitchen last year and started off with nothing on the work tops and hated it. It looked so bare and boring. We have kettle, toaster and Kenwood mixer that count as gadgets. But also stack of chopping boards, little tray with oil, vinegar, salt, pepper and dried chilli's. Utensil Pot, kitchen towel, butter dish, massive fruit bowl, smaller bowl with tomatoes and garlic. Tray next to sink with hand-wash, hand cream and nail brush and also a bread bin. Also twenty bazillion plants in the window sills and on top of chest of drawers. I guess I will never make a minimalist but it is clean and tidy!!

ReadtheFT · 29/12/2021 15:25

Water filter jug, salt n pepper, kenwood mixer, nothing else. Hate cluttered surfaces!

ivykaty44 · 29/12/2021 15:26

kitchen work top has coffee machine, toaster, kettle, bread bin
utility work top bread machine, slow cooker, microwave, vitamix

I like having stuff handy for cooking, im not putting it away all the time as id find it such a ball ache

Pegasussnail · 29/12/2021 15:31

I'm catholic so the toaster lives on the counter Grin

I don't like stuff out but I do leave the kettle and toaster out. The airfryer and slow cooker live in the utility.

I have a bowl of eggs and a basket full of potatoes. Butter dish.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/12/2021 15:40

Kettle and Nesspresso machine. Everything else is ok cupboard. Kitchen is tiny.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/12/2021 15:41

@WhiteCatmas

Obviously if you’re protestant the toaster goes in the cupboard. Grin
I'm Catholic. Mine is in the cupboard 😂
PeaAndHamSoupFromATurkey · 29/12/2021 15:54

We have a lot of counter space but not much cupboard space so I find it much easier to keep things out. It's a lot but it's not cluttered because it's spread out. The walls are angled so we don't have many wall cupboards and I have a bad back so can't lift heavy things out of low cupboards so it works perfectly for us.

On the counter I have:
Storage jars for rice, pasta, flour etc
Tea/coffee jars
Mug rack
Spice rack
Knife rack
Kettle
Chopping boards in their own rack thing
Pot of utensils and a smaller one for wooden spoons/spatulas
Toaster
Microwave
Egg basket
Fruit bowl and banana hook
Butter dish
Bread machine
Basket for potatoes and other veg that are fine out of the fridge
Steam generator iron

I don't use them as often so I have the slow cooker and food mixer/processor on top of the fridge so they're easy to bring out without being in the way. I still have plenty of counter space for cooking and serving meals or when I'm baking.

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 29/12/2021 15:55

Kettle
Microwave

Then this little corner which is tea/coffee, some seasonings, scales, sugar, salt/pepper and teapot

What gadgets are kept out on your kitchen worktops and why.
CeCeSchmidt · 29/12/2021 15:58

Smoothie blender, small rice cooker and microwave.

Smoothie blender and small rice cooker are both used everyday and are unobtrusive so it would be a pain to put them away and take them out all the time.

Microwave is too big to stash and move, plus it’s a cute mint green retro one.

MamaWeasel · 29/12/2021 16:01

Everything.......because we have no spare cupboard space.

Workyticket · 29/12/2021 16:03

Loads - we stupidly only put base units in as I didn't want wall cupboard at the time.

Microwave, coffee, tea and sugar cannisters, kettle, K-Mix, chopping board holder, fruit bowl, a stack of Orlando Kiely tins, the compost pot

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 29/12/2021 16:10

Kettle, microwave that barely gets used, counter top freezer and food mixer as it's too big and heavy to fit in a cupboard!
I hate clutter but I live with people who create clutter.
