New dishwasher - can't fit wine glasses in

I had to get a new dishwasher as our old one died. The new one has a tray at the top for cutlery, but even with the middle tray at the lowest setting i cannot fit the wine glasses in. I've broken one putting it on the lower shelf. How are other people dealing with this problem, are there any solutions? My wine glasses are not that tall and I can't even fit some of the pint glasses in. So disappointing.

I hand wash them. Think mine do fit on my top shelf but I have never put them in the dishwasher. Maybe I will now though! Wine

RampantIvy · 27/07/2021 14:35

We don't dishwash wine glasses anyway

poorbuthappy · 27/07/2021 14:36

We handwash stemmed wine glasses.
I try and get everyone to drink out of the stemless ones for obvious reasons!

Beamur · 27/07/2021 14:37

I can't fit my tallest ones in unless they're tilted. Still seem to wash ok.

StormcloakNord · 27/07/2021 14:38

How are people dealing with the problem??????

Is this a wind up?

There's this thing on your kitchen worktop, it has a pipe that spits out water........

Mamette · 27/07/2021 14:39

I rest them at a 45 degree angle against the flippy-up and down thing. It’s not really an issue for us as there’s only ever one, or two max per wash.

If it’s a party (rare, thanks Covid) I hand wash them all.

RosesAndHellebores · 27/07/2021 14:40

Remove the cutlery tray........ or buy smaller glasses.

Blamelesscars · 27/07/2021 14:40

I Always hand wash wine glasses. I think we may have the same dishwasher … pint glasses wash fine on the bottom shelf

Nicklebox · 27/07/2021 14:45

Thanks for reply's I have always used dishwasher for the glasses in the past they have narrow tops so can't clean inside very easily. I think i will get a small basket to go at the bottom, so that i can remove the tray at the top.

Yes, I've recently changed from amiele to a Bosch and taller thinks just don't fit well and the cutlery shelf is clunky.

I put them in on a slant, on the bottom shelf, leaning against that flap thing at the back. It's annoying, they used to fit on the slant in the top shelf of the old one.

Frying pans and baking trays really don't fit easily either, which means running it more often.

I never realised interiors wouid be so different, and I wouid never have bought online if I had realised (and never will again now I have)

PickAChew · 27/07/2021 14:48

I wash them by hand with all the other delicate stuff.

Oblomov21 · 27/07/2021 14:53

We don't have a cutlery tray, as in flat,
We have a basket, bottom, for cutlery, and big cutlery, serving spoons etc, goes on top section.

All wine glasses, pint glasses, cups, mugs, fit nicely in top section,

I got a dishwasher late in life. Now I don't handwash anything.

oh sounds like a ball ache, sometimes my top shelf is 3/4 dull glasses thanks to teens, it would get on nerves not having them washed in the dishwasher.

I will be careful which dishwasher I buy if I have to replace mine now.

what other stuff? literally everything goes in my dishwasher........

Nicklebox · 27/07/2021 14:57

All the one's i looked at had a tray instead of a cutlery basket which is what causes the problem with the taller glasses. I have been looking for some wine glasses with shorter stems, they have them at Argos but are currently out of stock (wonder why lol)

For those that put everything in the dishwasher: is there a way to stop glassware going cloudy? For that reason alone it’s probably worth handwashing nice wine glasses.

dementedpixie · 27/07/2021 14:59

I bought wine glasses with short stubby stems. I put pint glasses in at an angle

SagelyNodding · 27/07/2021 15:03

Have you checked to see if the cutlery tray folds in half? Ours does (Samsung) so I can get taller glasses to fit! It took me 3 months to discover this fact Blush

essentialhealing · 27/07/2021 15:05

Our top shelf has three sections and a plastic racking. The only reason wine glasses fit is because you can tilt them so they sit in the middle resting on the racking

RNBrie · 27/07/2021 15:06

I bought stemless wine glasses from Riedel, they are really nice!

Orchidflower1 · 27/07/2021 15:07

Dear lord @Nicklebox it’s quite easy- drink the wine out of pint glasses 😜

When you’ve drunk a pint you won’t care where the glasses go. 🍷

Rinse aid. I've not had one go cloudy since I went back to using it.

I don't like tall stemmed wine glasses as I find them a very silly and impractical shape. They seem designed to be knocked over and broken.

All wine is drunk in whiskey tumblers in this house, and they just go in the dishwasher.

My glasses used to go cloudy when i used cheap dishwasher powder but since i started using the tablets it doesn't happen. What sort are you using?

NewYearNewTwatName · 27/07/2021 15:11

Justbetweenus

the right dishwasher tablets.

I use to mess around with adding salt and still get cloudy glasses. I now use the all in one pods or tablets. fairy platinum or the finish ones (can't remember the name of them) Lidle also does some really cheap ones that are quite good.

Floralnomad · 27/07/2021 15:11

Are you sure you’ve adjusted the shelves properly , we bought a Bosch dishwasher with a cutlery tray earlier this year and I can still fit pint glasses on the top rack with plenty of clearance .
