New dishwasher - can't fit wine glasses in

I had to get a new dishwasher as our old one died. The new one has a tray at the top for cutlery, but even with the middle tray at the lowest setting i cannot fit the wine glasses in. I've broken one putting it on the lower shelf. How are other people dealing with this problem, are there any solutions? My wine glasses are not that tall and I can't even fit some of the pint glasses in. So disappointing.

Surely you just tilt them? I have a dishwasher with cutlery tray and can fit pint glasses upright, and wine glasses on the tilt. I don't tend to put champagne glasses in as they are a nice set and I hand wash.

Can you share a picture? Maybe we could help.....

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 27/07/2021 15:18

I just drink from the bottle

We have some very tall pint glasses that i bought in a hurry before lock down when we had a lot of family over, its those ones that don't fit also the wine glasses have short stems but are tall in the bowl bit they are quite chunky and fit a lot of wine in. Grin

Agree that good quality tablets prevent fogging and tilting is the way forward.

I am not allowed to wash wine glasses by hand any more because I keep breaking them and injuring myself in the process Blush Grin

Ha ha probably doesn't help that i got DS to remove the flippy bit on the side as i thought it was just for double stacking cups maybe i should put one of them back, just thought it wast taking up unnecessary space. Really lazy here squash as much in as i can, so i don't have to wash anything up.

I didn't like the cutlery tray anyway so I use a cutlery basket. Makes life easier for me.

waterroyalty · 27/07/2021 15:28

Can you remove the top cutlery tray level and just buy a cutlery basket for the bottom level as per the old style dishwashers (e.g. from a spare parts suppler)?

I just replaced my dishwasher and avoided all the Bosch ones with the new cutlery tray due to sporty kids and needing to fit in a lot of tall water bottles that I refuse to wash by hand.

waterroyalty · 27/07/2021 15:30

Also I was fairly sure my family would not use all those specially designed little slots for the cutlery and would just pile them up in a big heap on the top level, defeating bosch's intention that the cutlery would be cleaner. I think Bosch will have to ditch this new idea eventually.

OverByYer · 27/07/2021 15:31

I have to tilt mine on the top shelf and use the flap to support them.

I’d have to buy new glasses before I’d hand wash!

Also many of the newer models don't even have those grey flip-up and down side trays (even the long one for knives). So if you are replacing your old Bosch dishwasher, unclip them and keep them for future models (as well as the cutlery tray).

waterroyalty · 27/07/2021 15:33

Correction
as well as the cutlery basket/caddy*

(not the bleeding tray, that is the root of all these problems)

HermioneGrunger · 27/07/2021 15:34

We stick our wine glasses in the bottom because we can't be bothered arsing around to fit them in on the drawer below the cutlery shelf.

The only way our dishes and glasswear come out perfect is bu using Fairy platinum, the old dishwasher loved Aldi own brand, this new one is a brand snob.

I think that's what I'll have to do. I did keep the old basket but it's quite large. I've seen some half sized ones on amazon which might be better. I just want it all. The tray is quite handy for the larger knifes and utensils. In my old dishwasher there was a narrow shelf on the left above the top tray for these things.

We bought a dishwasher with the cutlery tray at the top but we also took several crockery items plus glassware into the showroom because the tray takes up space for the top rack. The sales person said hardly anyone does that but we weren't prepared to change our crockery set etc. I need to know that pasta bowls and our cereal bowls fit between the prongs. Blush

Our wine glasses are thicker stemmed and shortish and we also have stemless ones that are beautiful and I prefer them as they are more sturdy especially if reaching across the table for anything. I do love the cutlery tray though, frees up some serious space in the bottom section.

😂😂😂🙌
Trytowin20 · 27/07/2021 15:37

I have a wine glass holder came with it. Don't drink 🤦🤣. Basically looks like a cutlery basket but the wine glasses Criss cross each other. It's bulky but I assume it fits as the glasses are quite an angle. Our dishwasher came with a tray for cutlery but took it out and use a basket instead

If you're near Birmingham you're welcome to it 👍

NoYOUbekind · 27/07/2021 15:38

You need to put the flippy bit back in, that supports the wine glasses so you can tilt them. But it should fold up so it doesn't get in the way when you're not washing wine glasses.

Nicklebox · 27/07/2021 15:42

Skinnytailedsquirrel

That's a great idea

OP: I am clearly overinvested, but this must be really annoying for you. When I was looking for a new model recently, I only found one review mentioning this issue. How is this not raised by more people. We went with one without the tray because we could not be sure about the sports water bottles and weren't willing to take the risk (I don't buy anything that can't go in the dishwasher, so I need a dishwasher that doesn't make me handwash stuff unnecessarily). The machine arrived without any of the grey flippy trays so we had to save them from the old machine and re-install. Bosch are trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist with these changes and removing things that people used to like.

Yes good job i kept it. I will put it back and give it a go. Every mm counts when filling the dishwasher the layout is slightly different in this one to my old one and i cant fit things in as well as before still getting used to it.

I can't believe the response there has been to this post either. I did look at other models in the shop but they all had the tray at the top, I did not check the amount of room above the middle shelf or see what the other top trays were like, we have always had bosch and they have lasted well so i probably wouldn't have changed . I am particularly fed up at the lack of shorter wine glasses that are not too expensive. Why are manufacturers not aware that the products they are making do not fit in the new type of dishwasher. We have lowered the middle shelf so that more things do fit in, but this has resulted in our larger plates only working if they are placed in the outer edges of the bottom shelf grrr.

AlwaysLatte · 27/07/2021 15:58

We use stemless wine glasses for every day for that reason, and nice crystal glasses for nicer occasions or entertaining which need hand washing anyway.

BruceAndNosh · 27/07/2021 16:01

@Nicklebox

Thanks for reply's I have always used dishwasher for the glasses in the past they have narrow tops so can't clean inside very easily. I think i will get a small basket to go at the bottom, so that i can remove the tray at the top.
I got a new dishwasher last year as part of a total kitchen refit. With so many decisions to make, I just went with designer's.suggestion. It's got a bloody top cutlery tray. My plates won't fit in lower level unless the upper level is raised to highest setting. Then glasses won't fit. I bought a basket for the bottom too!
drspouse · 27/07/2021 16:03

I have some chunky recycled glass ones that I tilt and I think we've got a few crystal ones in a cupboard that we'd use if the Queen came round and we hand wash them.
I think you must have the same new dishwasher as us!

Figgyboa · 27/07/2021 16:16

@NewYearNewTwatName

I wash them by hand with all the other delicate stuff

what other stuff? literally everything goes in my dishwasher........

Knives, always handwash these.
