Hello and welcome to the July 2021 Fledgling Flylady Thread. Thank you Willow for an excellent pair of June threads. Welcome to one and all, old hands and newbies, lurkers and longtime posters and anyone in between. This thread keeps us vaguely on track with Flylady and is where we post our Ta Das and Yes Ta Das (what we did yesterday 😁), our To Dos and To Didn'ts, and discuss anything that comes to mind (often not housekeeping!).

The beauty of Flylady is that you are never behind, the whole system repeats every month, just jump in wherever. The aim is to gradually get into good habits and regular routines that keep the house ticking over rather than having a huge blitz on it.

To help you with this I'll be posting links to Flyady's Flight Plan and other useful parts of the website, which is updated daily, it's also good to go in and have a browse (some of it is a bit twee though). Do NOT sign up for the emails, you will be inundated.

The system divides the house up into weekly zones, then in each zone there will be timefor decluttering, a small daily task (the Mission) and each day of the week has a theme too (eg Errand Day). You can switch things around to suit your circumstances, there is a weekly Sneak Peek page to help you plan ahead. There are also 31 Babysteps, small daily habits to adopt (eg wearing shoes around the house if you'd rather not). Finally Flylady wants you to make time for you and your family, so weekends are more relaxed.

Jargon
Flylady (and the thread!) has a little bit of her own peculiar jargon it can help to know:
S&S - swish and swipe - a quick go round a bathroom or cloakroom to keep it acceptably fresh
LoL load of laundry. We are not collapsing into hysterical laughter over the state of our washing baskets
Hotspots any areas that tend to collect clutter no matter how often you clear them - mine is definitely the corner of the worksurface by the kitchen door, and the bookshelf at the bottom of the stairs
5 minute room rescue a quick whizz round any room to create a semblance of order
Weekly Home Blessing (often Home Bleugh here) - an hour a week to keep the house acceptable. I think this can only be done in an hour if you only have one bed in the house to change, so take it with a pinch of salt. I spread mine over the week as I cannot get it down to an hour and don't have an hour to give to it either.
Ned and Ted - imaginary friends often draughted in to assist with washing and ironing
BRC Bag, or box, of Random Crap
(D)LMS (Didn't) Lose My Shit - often a necessary acronym around spouses and teens!
Naughty Corner - the thread's imaginary space for rest and recuperation when it all gets too much. Often stocked with soft cushions, blankets, drinks and snacks. May or may not have a free bar, fire place, sunloungers, hot and cold running barmen etc.
Cherry waves 🍒👋 - lovely type for cheery wave that stuck!
All Fed and No One Dead - a good outcome to a busy day.

The beauty of Flylady is that is can be adapted to any household setup - lots of DC or just one, or none; a partner / spouse, or ex, or those going it alone; those working within or outside the home; shiftwork, you name it.

Our motto is No Fledgling Left Behind, so if you are a returner or a lurker, welcome on board, there is always space her for more Fledglings.

Wow that you’re on fire today! Hope you’re also getting oodles of baby snuggles.

(I nearly wrote snuddles because that’s what Cagletini calls them!)

My interview shoes and bag have arrived. I did ask DH if they gave me a more grown up, “got my shit together” appearance. But he said not really, as the armadillo on my pyjamas was a dead giveaway. Best hope the rest of the outfit arrives then.

TheHoneyBadger · 04/07/2021 19:30

Bloody hell That - you put me to shame on how much I get done in a day when you've done all that days after giving birth!! How are you feeling?

Bicarb and vinegar paste worth a go zoo ?

foxessocks · 04/07/2021 20:15

that I fell off the last thread so never saw your news although sensed it must be time for congratulations!!! Hope you're doing well

elfycat · 04/07/2021 20:43

Redsquirrel Going AWOL is my speciality. I do usually go back eventually

Yup I have a pile of freshly washed blankets behind this sofa. I could fold them and put them away - or we could make a nest and eat popcorn.

I actually do have piles of blankets. DDs sort of collect them. Everything from expensive John Lewis fluffy ones to B&M fleeces. Over half of them have names (Pink Fluff, Starlight, Midnight, Galaxy, Bee, Snowflake, Marble etc Starlight is mine )

Working through the daily list but stalled after dinner. Laundry (x2) and Dishwasher stuff done. Bathrooms cleaned. Need to go declutter and hot spot tidy.

DDs have picked up their 5 items and are about to be handed laundry to put away. Might miss the declutter on day 1 back at it, and do the quick hot spot tidy (I have so many to choose from!)

YupIHave · 04/07/2021 22:30

that congratulations on your baby(ies). I am in awe of how much you have done.

zoo I do remember you from when I used to post in 2016. 5 years ago!

elfycat den sounds really good. DS has a fleece blanket that I can't stand that used to belong to DSS and he left it here when visiting because he didn't want it anymore. I snuck it to the garage for giving to charity and DP brought it back into the house when I wasn't looking and gave to DS. Grrrrr. It's huge and ugly (hugly).

Ta da:
DS school shirts washed
Another load washed and hung to dry
2 loads of laundry put away
Food Shopped (hate this)
Lunch made for DS and me
Nails clipped (mine and DS)
Picked up DP from train station
Sorted DParents laptop out
Dinner made
Bedtime routine with DS
Clothes ready for work and school
Lots of washing up done today.

To do:
Get ready for bed.

Night.

Mc3209 · 04/07/2021 22:47

This thread moves fast!
Welcome elfycat and yup ☺️ Loving the concept of Hugly blanket 😂
Honey do you prefer to be called Badger or Honey?
Sing I hope you manage to get your meds sorted. It's a pain when there is a gap in provisions.
That you are a super momma! Impressive ta da list. How are you and your little one doing?

Ta das:
💥LOLx2. I finally washed all winter hats.
💥Fishtank maintenance X3
💥Found kitchen
💥DH blitzed the bathroom
💥Changed bedsheets again, as baby decided to vomit on fresh ones.

Roll on Monday. 🍒👋

Mc3209 · 04/07/2021 23:08

Zoo happy birthday to the Scoutcat! 🎉
Dancing the haircut debacle made me laugh. It's ok, she will grow to like it. Hair is not legs, it will grow again.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 05/07/2021 06:49

Thanks for the congratulations and list praise Grin Baby and I are doing good, he sleeps pretty well and i feel great due to no longer being the size of a house and having a bowling ball in my pelvis Grin

Dancing i assume the relative knows your not an actual hair dresser. If you let a none trained person have a go on your hair you really can't complain!

Welcome new/old people. I think i have been here around 5 years now although under many different names!

I might start swapping the dcs bedrooms today, might being the opperative word!

TheHoneyBadger · 05/07/2021 07:08

Don’t overdo it that Glad you’re feeling good Smile

Elf we have a blanket called The Cloud.

Good nights sleep here.

Work today then gym after. Will aim for some house stuff too but probably not a lot.

Dancingtomusic · 05/07/2021 07:17

That- your list is amazing with what you have done. So glad your baby sleeps well.
(🤣 bowling ball in pelvis.)
Thank you, I am not trained in hairdressing.

Mc- thank you. 😆

Its makes me feel better reading your replies. Its my aunt who has her 79th birthday this week. Her hair was waist length hair which she had not cut for 2 years. In bad condition. Resembled a rose bush. Its now just 3cm below shoulder length. 🙈
I am going try go she her everyday and take her out to asda shopping and anything else she needs. I am going to tell her to just shout at me cos i think i am going to cry (trying to put on a brave face and style it out with confidence. I keep telling her it looks lovely. It does. She misses the length.)
I have barely slept and kept replaying the hair event. I feel on edge on upset.
Focusing on the kids is the only thing that is motivating me.

EverythingDelegated · 05/07/2021 07:29

Morning all,

Dancing - I think it's a bit natural to feel upset over such a big change in hair length even when you chose to do it yourself. My DD had 6" lopped off her waist length hair in a salon about two months ago and still misses it (it was in terrible condition and needed it). So hopefully it's not personal.

That - no shifting heavy furniture by yourself, your body needs some recovery time. Glad you are feeling so much better now though.

Yup and Elfy - welcome back, I have been here for many years under a variety of names too. It's always nice when people come back.

Right better get some links posted.....

Monday

This week we are in Zone 2 The Kitchen

Here is today's Flight Plan

Our mission is to look up and deal with dust bunnies and cobwebs on the ceiling.

Monday is Home Blessing Hour (vacuum, dust, change beds etc). Don't worry if you can't manage it, I would never be able to do all of that in an hour., just do what you can.

HazelNuttyElf · 05/07/2021 07:38

dancing hair will grow back, just like mc said. I have myself a TERRIBLE haircut during lockdown 2020, made myself cry it was so bad, my hairdresser tried not to look horrified and she was able to fix it for me. She won't be mad at you or anything, it will become an inside joke, and she may actually love the length after getting over the shock (it sounds like there would be shock involved). She will just be mad at herself for not waiting for a hairdresser to do it, if she's anything like me.
I don't remember who asked now, but yes, we ate outside Saturday night at my ILs house, they have a covered patio. We are inside their house Sunday night, which sucks, I was cold from the A/C blowing and their table is obnoxiously huge. They built it so I can't really complain too much, but it is hard to use when having food in the middle of it as you can't reach it. The wind really picked up outside though so it was probably a good thing we were inside. We left there early and headed home to have a drink or 3 and watch a movie, only pausing part way through to go watch the fireworks outside. We found we have a great view from our driveway, and there were big fireworks all around us, which was a good thing until it came to letting our terrified dog out as she refused to go potty 🤦‍♀️😢 hopefully I don't wake up to pee in the house in the morning.

Anyway, enough rambling on by me. Welcome (fellow) elf and yup sounds like you'll fit right in!
I wonder if hillshas got her internet up and running again yet.

🍒👋 to everyone

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 05/07/2021 07:48

I won't move anything heavy, tbh most of it is either fairly light or needs taking apart to move.

Dancing if she asked for it cutting shorter i don't really know what she expected lol. I was imagining you had cut some awful too short wonky fringe in or something!

HazelNuttyElf · 05/07/2021 07:49

I missed several posts, oops. dancing I'm sure you did her a good deed by chopping it off for her. It will grow back, and it sounds like it looks healthier now.
that such a long list and you just had a baby 😲 please don't overdo it though.

We helped my ILs with their fence today. Other than rotating DW and rearranging furniture in the living room and putting Boxed up things away, there was no flying involved.

TheHoneyBadger · 05/07/2021 08:25

Oh God we've made it to the kitchen - I'm scared!

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/07/2021 08:43
Dancingtomusic · 05/07/2021 08:55

Zoo- omg thats a list for 8.40am....what time were you up?

Honey- I might try and join in on the kitchen stuff.

Ed- thanks, i remember when you posted that your dd had 6in lopped off her hair. She was very brave doing that. Did you mention that swimming didnt help its condition?

Hazel- thanks, its does look healthier. Just worried when she washes it it will go even more short 🤦‍♀️ cant do anything now tho.

That- hope you dont do too much. Have you been at zoo's tic tac box?

Po3

  • shower (stupid perimenopause.)
  • empty dw
  • s and s

(I can do this....i can do this....)

TheHoneyBadger · 05/07/2021 09:43

You can do this! I'm trying to get myself to get off of mumsnet and into the bath! I have to leave for work in an hour and a half and am still sitting around in a kaftan Grin

Dancingtomusic · 05/07/2021 10:18

Honey - 🤣

i have been reading Mn threads too.
Hope you have a good day at work!

Redsquirrel5 · 05/07/2021 10:28

Ooh a kaftan sounds like a nice thing to be sitting around in.

I about to hit the shower. We are going to do the shopping today. Reserves very depleted especially the freezer as we were trying to eat up the stuff that needed using.
Had a disturbed night but lovely cool breeze coming through now.
I also had migraine yesterday aura so I couldn’t see properly. A lie down and a sleep after some food sorted it. Think it might be the weather.

Some great lists put me to shame however I am planning to tackle the house like the garden to pull it around into shape. I am loving sitting in a very tidy garden with nothing left to do bar some chopping back.

I went on a Lino cutting course on Friday which I enjoyed. A very good tutor and I had a good result. Need to have a go at making some smaller ones and might ask friend if we set a day to design C cards.

My beloved Aunt’s birthday. I do miss her.

Right shower then kitchen. DH has lost the K beater for my Kenwood. Why can’t he just put it away in the bloody machine. He leaves out things that he finds too much trouble to put away when he washes up.🤷🏼‍♀️

SingToTheSky · 05/07/2021 11:25

Boring morning here. No covid result for DD1 yet. On hold to GP - they have changed their phone system and now don’t take calls for anything other than appointments before 11am. I am in a queue above 30 apparently. I did speak to CMHT though and they definitely did send the shared care transfer almost 4 weeks ago, so that’s a good sign!

Currently waiting on a bacon sandwich from DH, could be worse :o

elfycat · 05/07/2021 12:01

So I just limescale-removed from my bathrooms (loft converted bungalow, shower room upstairs and bathroom downstairs) for ages.

Washing hanging outside (will not trip over it today, have fairly decent bruises from yesterday). Put half of the pile-of-doom away this morning.

About to start on the kitchen. Get that sink shining!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 05/07/2021 13:22

I am not Flying today, that is DH's job. I am wallpapering again. I have hung 3 strips, but two of those were round the window so I am counting that as a win and have paused for lunch.

That glad babyThat is doing well. Has he just had to slot in, as Baby #6? How do the others feel about their new sibling?

Dancing, I'm sure your aunt does miss the length of her hair but it will be much healthier trimmed and allowed to grow. As Mc said, it's hair, not legs (I love that). When I've cut my hair drastically by choice I've always missed the length for a bit, it's natural. She will get used to it, and she asked you to help. Don't worry.

Hill if your tech allows you to read but not post, here is a 🍒👋.

Red sounds like a fun day in the offing.

Welcome back, yup, good luck. Sorry to hear about the bruises elfy.

Right, back up my ladder!

SingToTheSky · 05/07/2021 13:31

I am hiding after the noise and nobody-leaving-me-the-fuck-alone got to me.

Turns out the GPs have no evidence of my shared care.
