Hello and welcome to the July 2021 Fledgling Flylady Thread. Thank you Willow for an excellent pair of June threads. Welcome to one and all, old hands and newbies, lurkers and longtime posters and anyone in between. This thread keeps us vaguely on track with Flylady and is where we post our Ta Das and Yes Ta Das (what we did yesterday 😁), our To Dos and To Didn'ts, and discuss anything that comes to mind (often not housekeeping!).

The beauty of Flylady is that you are never behind, the whole system repeats every month, just jump in wherever. The aim is to gradually get into good habits and regular routines that keep the house ticking over rather than having a huge blitz on it.

To help you with this I'll be posting links to Flyady's Flight Plan and other useful parts of the website, which is updated daily, it's also good to go in and have a browse (some of it is a bit twee though). Do NOT sign up for the emails, you will be inundated.

The system divides the house up into weekly zones, then in each zone there will be timefor decluttering, a small daily task (the Mission) and each day of the week has a theme too (eg Errand Day). You can switch things around to suit your circumstances, there is a weekly Sneak Peek page to help you plan ahead. There are also 31 Babysteps, small daily habits to adopt (eg wearing shoes around the house if you'd rather not). Finally Flylady wants you to make time for you and your family, so weekends are more relaxed.

Jargon
Flylady (and the thread!) has a little bit of her own peculiar jargon it can help to know:
S&S - swish and swipe - a quick go round a bathroom or cloakroom to keep it acceptably fresh
LoL load of laundry. We are not collapsing into hysterical laughter over the state of our washing baskets
Hotspots any areas that tend to collect clutter no matter how often you clear them - mine is definitely the corner of the worksurface by the kitchen door, and the bookshelf at the bottom of the stairs
5 minute room rescue a quick whizz round any room to create a semblance of order
Weekly Home Blessing (often Home Bleugh here) - an hour a week to keep the house acceptable. I think this can only be done in an hour if you only have one bed in the house to change, so take it with a pinch of salt. I spread mine over the week as I cannot get it down to an hour and don't have an hour to give to it either.
Ned and Ted - imaginary friends often draughted in to assist with washing and ironing
BRC Bag, or box, of Random Crap
(D)LMS (Didn't) Lose My Shit - often a necessary acronym around spouses and teens!
Naughty Corner - the thread's imaginary space for rest and recuperation when it all gets too much. Often stocked with soft cushions, blankets, drinks and snacks. May or may not have a free bar, fire place, sunloungers, hot and cold running barmen etc.
Cherry waves 🍒👋 - lovely type for cheery wave that stuck!
All Fed and No One Dead - a good outcome to a busy day.

The beauty of Flylady is that is can be adapted to any household setup - lots of DC or just one, or none; a partner / spouse, or ex, or those going it alone; those working within or outside the home; shiftwork, you name it.

Our motto is No Fledgling Left Behind, so if you are a returner or a lurker, welcome on board, there is always space her for more Fledglings.

Could be a positive though as hopefully CMHT will thus see fit to just issue me another script which DH could pick up ASAP.

If we get the covid result.🤦🏽‍♀️

On a better note I have arranged a collection of our scrap metal, and a friend’s DH is doing a tip run later this month and is happy to take our other stuff. So that means we can put all tip stuff outside later this week and crack on with various projects in the house that will clear space properly!

Tada
Bedrooms glided over

SingToTheSky · 05/07/2021 17:38

ta da so far
😴 had a nap

😳🤣

Actually do feel a bit better for it though

TheHoneyBadger · 05/07/2021 17:40

Did it get sorted Sing ?

I went to work - didn't get fired, didn't kill anyone and was actually in quite high spirits and had a good laugh with my classes. It's that end of the year time where you think oh actually I know you all now and we've ironed out most of the kinks and gotten used to each other and it's all working and now we have to say goodbye. Still no clue what classes I've got next year.

As a parent feeling pretty pissed off - wrote to pastoral person about concerns about a week ago, finally got a reply which is utterly impersonal and ignoring the core concerns. If I didn't work at the same school ds goes to I think there would have been several points in the last few years where I'd have been complaining and insisting on changes - as a member of staff that's incredibly awkward and I worry I've let ds down because of it. So that's my anxiety and angst kick off going on in my head and no one to talk to about it and don't feel like it can be dealt with properly at school because I work there and aargghh.

Nothing done at home and sorely tempted to order takeaway. This adulting business is seriously hard.

SingToTheSky · 05/07/2021 17:59

Agreed honey I am not an adulting fan! I’m finding it quite overwhelming trying to present myself as a Proper Grown Up for Wednesday let alone actually answer questions properly 😳🤣 even wearing Actual Shoes feels really unnatural to me now. Stupid sensory issues. 😭

Gosh I didn’t realise you worked in the same school DS goes to. That does make things really difficult 💐

Hope :o

Well I feel more human for the sleep. But no, meds not sorted, couldn’t get through to CMHT at all, and the GP didn’t phone back either (my phone was on loud next to my pillow just in case). I obviously will chase again tomorrow but once it was afternoon it was clearly not going to happen in time anyway (Elvanse can only be taken first thing, or I wouldn’t sleep and would be an absolute wreck the next day) so I just need to try and get through tomorrow and hope that taking my last dose Wednesday morning has me vaguely ok for the interview.

If I can even go in person - not got DD1’s covid result yet :( I can’t even do my volunteer call tomorrow as DH has hospital (they’ve said he can go as double jabbed as long as he does LFT - same may apply to me for interview?!) but Cagletini can’t go to nursery. Bit late to get in touch via supervisor (we can’t text volunteers as have to withhold our numbers) so I guess I’ll just phone and explain?! I can’t devote my attention for an hour with Cagletini around. Aaargh.

When will everything get less complicated 🤣

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/07/2021 18:55

sing life is complicated
Hope you get that damn result back soon!
Honey that's hard him being in same school,I suspect if wasn't you wouldn't think twice about going at it full throttle but more complicated when work colleagues.sadly,I don't have any answers, sorry

I actually got on a chair and cleaned light fittings lets not discuss my neck/back/hips viciously complaining, nor near falling off damn thing!

Tada
Cleaned and positioned new blender
Made lil zoo pop corn for snack
Organised dinner(lil zoo had courgettes and peppers I roasted at lunch with radish,Tom's and lettuce plus veggie sausages, chopped.ds had cucumber,Tom's,rice and the sausages)
Chop fruit

Redsquirrel5 · 05/07/2021 19:08

Hope 🤣

Sing sorry to hear that. Difficult for you. Could you’ll manage two short calls? At least if they know they can get on with their day or could perhaps ask something specific and maybe you could phone back later. My counsellor phoned once on a really good week and I only needed about 10 minutes.
She granted me a paid for session last month. I have another session I will pay for myself soon and probably my last. I really like her and she is very sensible which in the past I have found a problem with two. One was great but her training finished and she went back to her locality before I had completed. The next one was always cancelling I gave up in the end.
I feel I am in a much better place now. Two more are leaving (grapevine) which makes me realise it isn’t just me. One has a new job.
Not sure about the other.

Willow wall papering around windows is awkward. My room badly needs doing. I love the paper that is on. It is a lavender colour with a weave in the paper so textured but flat. I can’t get it now. I don’t want patterns as I have flowery curtains and quilt and a cushion soon two matching. The floor is floorboards and a very old silk rug to step onto.

You will be pleased once you have finished.

I took basket of clothing to a charity shop. The town was busy so I got DH to drop me off and I took it while he drove around the block. The rest isn’t good enough so I will drop it in one of those bins. I am really pleased and felt great because it is an animal shelter so they need the funds. I know they all do but will take stuff to the others when I sort it. I have more room now. DH is finally going to put the box of Christmas decks in the loft. I have to pick my moments to ask and he said we will tidy Hall and he will help me move the little bookcase into the hall.
Now he is calling me back later. I asked him about dinner wasn’t hungry now he has decided he is.🤷🏼‍♀️

YupIHave · 05/07/2021 19:18

Blimey, I'm tired. Sad First day of being back at work after having had flu. It was exhausting and I'm still coughing and it hurts.

Ta-das:

De-cobwebbed kitchen
Made dinner and made sure to make enough for my lunch for tomorrow.

That's it!

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/07/2021 19:52

Zoolets dad has applied job..he asked me to reference for him.i Saud I would, but as a character reference, not work colleague/company.ive always said the same in 18 years he's known me...
Email comes in what role has he worked for in your organisation.hes now angry I refusing to do it, he offered to fill it in but needed it to be sent my email address.i refused
I'm an honest person, always have been.very much "an open book". I would worry about it and lose sleep over it so I won't do it.hes now accusing me costing him a job opportunity thinking he can bully me into feeling guilty.not happening...I'm just cross and a bit upset he thought it would do it given how long he's known me.but there we are.says everything really about what he thinks of me

halfhope · 05/07/2021 20:08

Is it possible that it's a generic request mentioning role and organisation etc but allows you to make it explicit that you are proving a character reference? Zoo

halfhope · 05/07/2021 20:10

I mean you could list his role as zoolets' Dad 😊

halfhope · 05/07/2021 20:15

Welcome yup. Take it easy getting back up to speed. I'm still floored by this ruddy cold. Day 8 🙄.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 05/07/2021 20:42

Wallpaper is finished, I am in the bath soaking out the kinks and off the wallpaper paste and DH is sorting through his clothes from under the bed (because we had to empty the bed to move it). Wonders will never cease!

Today, for first time in 18 years, I've felt Flying actually worked because DH was able to take over. All the basics got done and tomorrow will not be a disaster, because he stepped up and did what was on the list. The only minor reminder was to think of vegetables for tea and once I'd pointed out we needed them he got on with it. The routines are not only for us but also for others. The bigger issue was reminding DS3 repeatedly that DH was lead parent and no, I was not going to stop papering to cook his tea.

Pic of lovely wallpaper attached!

It's July, Fledglings are Flying towards Freedom (hopefully!)
halfhope · 05/07/2021 20:53

Lovely wallpaper 💕💕 Also well done to MrWillow 🏆 He's coming along nicely Willow 😁🤞

Mc3209 · 05/07/2021 21:09

Willow that is a fabulous wallpaper!
Zoo you've told him you will only do a character reference beforehand. The rest is on him. I agree with Hope , just check it's not the same form for everything.
Sing how frustrating re meds. Keep swimming, you are doing great!
That so pleased to read little BabyThat is doing well 😍
Yup that's a decent list, don't talk yourself down.
Honey well done on surviving the day. I can see how it can be tricky working in the same school your DS goes to.

Ta das (done the Home Bleugh!)

💥Dusted
💥Hoovered
💥LOLx2
💥Folded a small mountain of clean clothes (more to do tomorrow)
💥Batch cooked baby food
💥Rubbish out to the bins

Tomorrow will crack on with zone cleaning. Kitchen looks a bit funky.
🍒👋 everyone!

SingToTheSky · 05/07/2021 21:29

Evening. Feeling a bit sick 🤢😬

Bedtime was a rather long drawn out affair with a giggling Cagletini playing I Spy… frequently contributing “I spy with my little eye something beginning with… blobfish”

🤔

StillUpholding · 05/07/2021 21:38

Just popping in to say hi, and that I survived camping. We actually had a really lovely weekend (although pregnant camping was not the plan Willow, the booking came first!). Have been wiped out and spent the day with my feet up today though. Back to work tomorrow. Yak. I have quite a few pages to catch up on but hope everyone is well 🍒 👋

Redsquirrel5 · 05/07/2021 22:55

Glad you enjoyed it Up glad to hear you are putting your feet up before work tomorrow. Sleep well.

Sing sorry you are feeling ill. Hope you are ok tomorrow.

Willow you have done a great job on wallpapering. Lovely paper too.

MC great home bleugh and a list!

Zoo the way he has behaved in the past two years it is a wonder that he even gets a character reference from you. He has let you and the children down so many times.
Yup welcome and take it easy. The dust will be there tomorrow.

Honey I know what you mean it can take a year to lick some into shape and then someone else benefits. Perhaps you will get some back next year. It must be difficult having your own child in the same Secondary. Some staff had their children at Primary. I went to school with the Headteacher’s son and the Deputy Head’s daughter. A small country high school with about 400 max from an area of about 30 miles radius so a lot of land. Mixed bag of kids. I loved it there. Lots of Sport’s. There was only a choice of a fee paying boys school and a fee paying girls school so most of the teacher kids went to ours.

So the shopping took ages. We were out from 1:30pm until 5 pm. It is about 20 miles and the town centre was busy. We dropped off the clothes then went to the large butchers with a cafe and had lunch. DH had a roll with loads of roast beef in it and some salad- orzo and some coleslaw. I had pea and something soup. It was lovely DF and some chunky bread. We stocked up on a few things and then went to SCs favourite supermarket and spent too much. We did get some alcohol for the match DH and he treated me to a bottle of gin mulberry. BF had some at Christmas it was lovely and on offer. I also put a pie in from the freezer section. It looked and sounded delicious but was pricey. It was ginger and pear so something I am unlikely to make. DH nearly choked on the price at home but we will have two or three servings each and you would pay nearly that for a pudding if you went out. It was absolutely yummy and Lakeland have started making Vegan Vanilla ice cream. Mmmm.

Both of us felt really tired when we got back. Shopping away and a cup of tea meant we had a little doze. I started wiping the top of the cupboards but near the oven it was greasy and the water wasn’t on. DH has agreed to help me tomorrow. I plan to blitz the kitchen then follow up with the other rooms starting tomorrow.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒☕️until tomorrow.

SingToTheSky · 05/07/2021 23:36

Is it totally bad form to give a reference like “is a total arsehole who lets his kids down, but he’s probably ok at work” 🤔

Still feel a bit ugh. So much to do tomorrow and DH is out for his hospital appointment which is about a 90-120min journey each way

halfhope · 05/07/2021 23:53

sing I hate those days when you look ahead at the next day and think urghh. Hope you feel better tomorrow. I've a shed load of work.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/07/2021 06:15

singGrinat reference.hope you feeling better today
Willow Star for mrwillow and love the paper!
Up well-done surviving pregnant camping!
Redpear and ginger sounds lush
Hope I could add zoolets dad,but dad implies he has a parenting role.currently he's their father sperm donor and rate he's going by time they adults only D's be bothering with him

MashasMam · 06/07/2021 07:38

Good morning all, I hope ye don't mind me wandering in. I'm a complete newbie - I came across FlyLady last week and found myself here, I've been trying to catch up on the thread before I jumped in (it's only taken me 6 days Grin

I started out looking for a way to keep on top of the house over the Summer and then in the last couple of days, we have found out that we will have to move out of our lovely, rented home. So now I'm looking for a way to keep on top of the house work, pack up the house and give the kids some semblance of a Summer break Shock

So, I hope you don't mind me wading in and asking loads of questions! I'll bring Brew and Cake

Wink
