Hello and welcome to the July 2021 Fledgling Flylady Thread. Thank you Willow for an excellent pair of June threads. Welcome to one and all, old hands and newbies, lurkers and longtime posters and anyone in between. This thread keeps us vaguely on track with Flylady and is where we post our Ta Das and Yes Ta Das (what we did yesterday 😁), our To Dos and To Didn'ts, and discuss anything that comes to mind (often not housekeeping!).

The beauty of Flylady is that you are never behind, the whole system repeats every month, just jump in wherever. The aim is to gradually get into good habits and regular routines that keep the house ticking over rather than having a huge blitz on it.

To help you with this I'll be posting links to Flyady's Flight Plan and other useful parts of the website, which is updated daily, it's also good to go in and have a browse (some of it is a bit twee though). Do NOT sign up for the emails, you will be inundated.

The system divides the house up into weekly zones, then in each zone there will be timefor decluttering, a small daily task (the Mission) and each day of the week has a theme too (eg Errand Day). You can switch things around to suit your circumstances, there is a weekly Sneak Peek page to help you plan ahead. There are also 31 Babysteps, small daily habits to adopt (eg wearing shoes around the house if you'd rather not). Finally Flylady wants you to make time for you and your family, so weekends are more relaxed.

Jargon
Flylady (and the thread!) has a little bit of her own peculiar jargon it can help to know:
S&S - swish and swipe - a quick go round a bathroom or cloakroom to keep it acceptably fresh
LoL load of laundry. We are not collapsing into hysterical laughter over the state of our washing baskets
Hotspots any areas that tend to collect clutter no matter how often you clear them - mine is definitely the corner of the worksurface by the kitchen door, and the bookshelf at the bottom of the stairs
5 minute room rescue a quick whizz round any room to create a semblance of order
Weekly Home Blessing (often Home Bleugh here) - an hour a week to keep the house acceptable. I think this can only be done in an hour if you only have one bed in the house to change, so take it with a pinch of salt. I spread mine over the week as I cannot get it down to an hour and don't have an hour to give to it either.
Ned and Ted - imaginary friends often draughted in to assist with washing and ironing
BRC Bag, or box, of Random Crap
(D)LMS (Didn't) Lose My Shit - often a necessary acronym around spouses and teens!
Naughty Corner - the thread's imaginary space for rest and recuperation when it all gets too much. Often stocked with soft cushions, blankets, drinks and snacks. May or may not have a free bar, fire place, sunloungers, hot and cold running barmen etc.
Cherry waves 🍒👋 - lovely type for cheery wave that stuck!
All Fed and No One Dead - a good outcome to a busy day.

The beauty of Flylady is that is can be adapted to any household setup - lots of DC or just one, or none; a partner / spouse, or ex, or those going it alone; those working within or outside the home; shiftwork, you name it.

Our motto is No Fledgling Left Behind, so if you are a returner or a lurker, welcome on board, there is always space her for more Fledglings.

Morning all,

Just dropped DS at work and stuck some washing on. Done a few emails. Atmosphere still frosty with DH. He's gone to B&Q.

Foxes - 38 is usually regarded as the lower end of the range for peri symptoms but it can happen sooner, it did to my friend at about your age and after 2 DC. HRT sorted her out but it can take a while to figure it all out. Definitely worth keeping a symptom diary.

Zoo - sorry you've got plumbing problems too.

I'm off to do the ironing 🧺

Oh I definitely will be honey hopefully I can get some ASAP!

Brain still not with it - really wish I could have some Dr Pepper right now for some fizz and caffeine to wake me up 😳 but can’t get any as we haven’t had DD1’s test result yet.

Must stop mindlessly scrolling on my phone and actually do something.

❗️Reply to message about possible new correspondence tutoring venture
❗️Check laundry status and move on if necessary, otherwise get everything out of the dryer
❗️Make a tuna and cucumber sandwich and eat it in my room while watching stuff on my phone!

TheHoneyBadger · 04/07/2021 11:29

Good - your GP should be able to send an emergency prescription to the chemist.

I have an aura going on - big rainbow arcs - only a tiny bit of pain in my eyebrow and often I get just the aura and what I call the hangover but it's been quite a while since i had one so thinking it might be patch related... hope not.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 04/07/2021 11:32

Sorry it's all going bendy in various houses this morning.

DD is in a right strop with me since yesterday, when we ran out of brown sugar for her to make bubble tea and I suggested she either wait for the shopping delivery or go and buy some. This was "patronising" and resulted in stropping off to sit on the field then stropping off to buy ready made bubble tea (in London! But we are only 35 minutes out). Still frosty this morning when she went to work. Urgh.

DH has embraced the Home Decorating Thing and is painting our bedroom. I will be papering tomorrow, apparently. I am hiding in my eyrie pretending to do Important Stuff but actually browsing MN and thinking about a cup of coffee. Fruit and yoghurt for breakfast is all very well, but it runs out at about half past eleven.

To do:
⛈ Coffee, definitely
⛈ Planning of work for next week
⛈ Planning of what to do on Tuesday - I will be on my own in the house all day for the first time since September 2019. I propose to spend some of it lying on the living room floor listening to the silence.
⛈ Hang a picture in my eyrie
⛈ Do business filing
⛈ Choose paint for eyrie (my walls are only about a foot high except for round the chimney breast, so I won't need a lot)
⛈ Roast beef for dinner with trimmings (not to self: do not forget the Yorkies)
⛈ Wash the kitchen floor before it leaps for my throat

Sorry about the radiator, Dancing. Hope it can be fixed soon.

TheHoneyBadger · 04/07/2021 12:21

Willow I'm sure you've already looked into them but there seem to be a fair few cornish mining museums and heritage centres who could perhaps point you in the direction of resources or people?

SingToTheSky · 04/07/2021 13:14

Gosh how terribly rude of you to not have all necessary ingredients willow! Still at least she could spend her wages on the trip 🤣

Not feeling much better, might need a beta blocker in a minute. Not sure if I’ll get an emergency prescription as it’s a controlled drug 😭 but hopefully it’ll be issued ASAP. I’m in such a grump.

po3.2
❗️Meds and water. And possibly* a donut.
❗️Rotate DW
❗️Bring drying upstairs

*Definitely

TheHoneyBadger · 04/07/2021 13:31

If they can see you've been taking it regularly and it would be detrimental for you to suddenly stop they should prescribe even if it's only a few days worth till consultant or whoever prescribed it can be contacted. Really emphasise that suddenly stopping causes you problems and you're not doing well and you have an interview etc.

Don't be fobbed off - GPs are allowed to prescribed controlled substances though some are really paranoid. I had typed a story from my past that explained how I know but realised it was probably complete overshare. Anyway the point is that my GP was wonderful and agreed to manage things herself and after I was totally traumatised by a horrific encounter with a psychiatrist many years ago. If it's already been prescribed by a psychiatrist then they shouldn't have an issue with prescribing it and continuing care at least in the short term but don't be afraid to make a fuss and emphasise how detrimental it could be and that it was prescribed by a consultant and you are in between care plans or whatever the situation is for you.

Now's not the time to rock your mental health boat when you've got things coming up. Do whatever will make you feel better for now or climb into bed if needs be.

elfycat · 04/07/2021 13:35

I've done the FLYlady thing years ago. Firstly when DDs were babies/toddlers, then when the house was up for sale (didn't get buyers so extended and stayed).

But like many things I lapse, but some longer term habits stayed. Clean kitchen sink, S&S, load a day...

Which brings me to today. The washing was out on the line and it started to rain so I ran out and got it in, and tripped over Fridays laundry (I know!), landing uncomfortably on a knee (it's ok). I then walked into a chair with the same knee (as I'd left a bag in the walkway and moved around it).

It's time to get my shit together and I know this works.

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/07/2021 13:36

willow for a moment my daft brain read still frosty as weather, not mood indicator of DC🤣.

Singhope get meds sorted ok

Tada
Asda and Waitrose trailing D's and dd2(lil zoo was doing painting for e.p homework)to help carry/drag the granny trolley as they eat so bloody much I cannot carry it
Shopping wiped and put away
Cats very excited to see bags of kibble and try rip open cos I obvs starve poor darlings
More washing rotated

Text argue dad...I'd said no to a visit today as was off Friday but opt sleep and yesterday travelled to Birmingham for a haircut(90 mins from us) as he's insistent on using same hairdresser who moved years ago despite that being high area of concern delta varient and city rules are don't travel unless have to,work from home, stay in borough etc so I considered it frivolous trip...
Anyhoo zoolets were bit glum so I said to D's ring him and say mums go push herself(anxiety related) and you can come over.he refused saying along lines I've planned my day now(pratting around and gaming online D's later)I have partial LMS and fired if message saying very disappointed he can't make effort when all was be asked of him was to hang out and be fed.no reply
GAH

TheHoneyBadger · 04/07/2021 13:37

Sorry that sounded really 'telling you what to do' but was meant to be supportive. You have to advocate for yourself strongly with mental health stuff I find so I just wanted to encourage you that you're allowed to not take no for an answer and get a solution for the short term till they sort out the bigger picture care plan wise.

Visuals side of aura and nausea passed and then had a patch of really dodgy uh oh what's coming but migraine pill and a couple of nurofen plus seem to be kicking in and easing things. I've placed a lot of hope in hrt so don't want to be kicked off and worsening or increased frequency of migraines is a red flag so crossing everything this is a one off and would have happened anyway rather than this is Badger on oestrogen.

Very glad I got lots done this morning because no chance of doing anything now. I will likely have to sleep this off going by past experience but just majorly relieved it hasn't escalated into full on vertigo and vomiting. Sorry for tmi.

elfycat · 04/07/2021 13:45

@Stilllivinginazoo I'm not looking for shining examples of organised homes. People that manage those are not MY people Grin

My problem is I get overwhelmed, and also take on too much and procrastinate about that because of the overwhelmed thing.

Just into menopause, pre-teen kids, self-employed WFH (with added clutter) and everything is going urgh...

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 04/07/2021 14:10

elfycat I had to read twice to make sure you are not me! Welcome, you will fit right in 😁.

DH has done more painting and moved furniture to do the next bit after the Grand Prix 😴. We will not discuss the state of the carpet where he has already painted, despite dustsheets 😭.

I am counting today as a decluttering win as in my wardrobe I found two pairs of boots that can definitely go. I will offer them to DD first, but I think they'll be at the Scope shop tomorrow.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 04/07/2021 14:13

Honey I'm sorry you've been ambushed by a migraine. Mine are auras and vertigo without an headache or vomiting, which I suppose is lucky but still leaves me useless, unable to see and walking into things when they occur. Hope meds and a sleep cure it.

Zoo I will leave roast dinner in naughty corner. Will probably make a DF rhubarb crumble too (or the rhubarb is going to grow into a triffid) if you want any?

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/07/2021 14:22

Honey I also get aura and sometimes vertigo, sometimes headache.bloody hate them
Elfycat you are going to fit it perfectly hereGrin

halfhope · 04/07/2021 14:56

honeyBadger hope you are feeling better. I read your post as 'Rainbow orcs' which is definitely not what you'd want to see in The Shire.

Tidying here and feeling better. Many thanks for your kind wishes.

SingToTheSky · 04/07/2021 14:58

Rainbow orcs 🤣

Honey it didn’t sound bad at all - really appreciate the advice and encouragement 🥰💐

Hi elfy!

Well I was going to do my list but then DH brought up my meds etc instead so I haven’t actually been downstairs to do the other bits yet. Must move.

Redsquirrel5 · 04/07/2021 15:40

Hi elfycat you will fit in but only if you also go AWOL now and then.

Hi everyone,
I can’t keep up with the thread so going to jump back in and likely wonder what is going on.

I was so exhausted on Monday. No idea where we are regards Flylady but will start again tomorrow. I did some of the boudoir yesterday. Hoping to go to town tomorrow and take the two baskets of stuff for charity shop.
Made some of the curtain fabric up into cushions for Summerhouse. Decluttered some stuff in the drawer. Sitting rooom and dining room fairly tidy.

YupIHave · 04/07/2021 16:05

Another one who needs to get life sorted or at least my home. Another one who used to do flylady years ago but stopped years ago too. I used to post regularly but I can't even remember what my mn name was.

Will start tomorrow. (Allegedly)

SingToTheSky · 04/07/2021 17:24

Hi yup welcome back! I’ve been here years but under various names too 🤣

I did my list but CBA to do another.

TheHoneyBadger · 04/07/2021 17:30

Yes I'm ok thanks. Luckily codeine and ergotamine combo seems to have nailed it. No rainbow orcs to be seen! I too mostly just get aura and all kinds of weird things with that but rarely the headache nowadays. When I was younger I had the full on projectile vomiting, stuck to bathroom floor wishing I could die for 12 hours plus so I'm grateful they have mellowed with age. Sorry others have the same affliction.

It's Sunday Sing - give yourself permission to have a duvet day if you need it.

halfhope · 04/07/2021 17:35

I am currently under the care of a glass of wine having tidied and done a quick bathroom clean in readiness for next week. Another Eve's Pudding is in the oven - eggs were a day out of date so let's hope I got away with it. And we ran out of butter so I had to top up with cream.

Dancingtomusic · 04/07/2021 18:51

Half- the glass of wine sounds lovely.

I think i need some for my nerves.
A close member of family asked me to cut her hair. I ....... shouldnt have as I was not thinking straight but i felt i had to.
I cut it. Its very short. The person tried not to be upset. I think they will cry at some point. I feel awful. I forgot the golden rule of cutting a bit at a time.
I feel terrible.
I hand in my hair cutting scissors. Am not trained just having a go kind of person. Oh god 🙈🙊

Hello Elfy and Yup. 👋
