Hello and welcome to the July 2021 Fledgling Flylady Thread. Thank you Willow for an excellent pair of June threads. Welcome to one and all, old hands and newbies, lurkers and longtime posters and anyone in between. This thread keeps us vaguely on track with Flylady and is where we post our Ta Das and Yes Ta Das (what we did yesterday 😁), our To Dos and To Didn'ts, and discuss anything that comes to mind (often not housekeeping!).

The beauty of Flylady is that you are never behind, the whole system repeats every month, just jump in wherever. The aim is to gradually get into good habits and regular routines that keep the house ticking over rather than having a huge blitz on it.

To help you with this I'll be posting links to Flyady's Flight Plan and other useful parts of the website, which is updated daily, it's also good to go in and have a browse (some of it is a bit twee though). Do NOT sign up for the emails, you will be inundated.

The system divides the house up into weekly zones, then in each zone there will be timefor decluttering, a small daily task (the Mission) and each day of the week has a theme too (eg Errand Day). You can switch things around to suit your circumstances, there is a weekly Sneak Peek page to help you plan ahead. There are also 31 Babysteps, small daily habits to adopt (eg wearing shoes around the house if you'd rather not). Finally Flylady wants you to make time for you and your family, so weekends are more relaxed.

Jargon
Flylady (and the thread!) has a little bit of her own peculiar jargon it can help to know:
S&S - swish and swipe - a quick go round a bathroom or cloakroom to keep it acceptably fresh
LoL load of laundry. We are not collapsing into hysterical laughter over the state of our washing baskets
Hotspots any areas that tend to collect clutter no matter how often you clear them - mine is definitely the corner of the worksurface by the kitchen door, and the bookshelf at the bottom of the stairs
5 minute room rescue a quick whizz round any room to create a semblance of order
Weekly Home Blessing (often Home Bleugh here) - an hour a week to keep the house acceptable. I think this can only be done in an hour if you only have one bed in the house to change, so take it with a pinch of salt. I spread mine over the week as I cannot get it down to an hour and don't have an hour to give to it either.
Ned and Ted - imaginary friends often draughted in to assist with washing and ironing
BRC Bag, or box, of Random Crap
(D)LMS (Didn't) Lose My Shit - often a necessary acronym around spouses and teens!
Naughty Corner - the thread's imaginary space for rest and recuperation when it all gets too much. Often stocked with soft cushions, blankets, drinks and snacks. May or may not have a free bar, fire place, sunloungers, hot and cold running barmen etc.
Cherry waves 🍒👋 - lovely type for cheery wave that stuck!
All Fed and No One Dead - a good outcome to a busy day.

The beauty of Flylady is that is can be adapted to any household setup - lots of DC or just one, or none; a partner / spouse, or ex, or those going it alone; those working within or outside the home; shiftwork, you name it.

Our motto is No Fledgling Left Behind, so if you are a returner or a lurker, welcome on board, there is always space her for more Fledglings.

Argh stressful! We’ve been very lucky with doctors I must say, even through covid it’s mostly been ok (except for the recent shared care debacle). Mind you DH now needs to ring to rearrange DD1’s appt - hoping they’ll switch it to phone although obviously the blood test appt needs rearranging.

Meeting was great. :)

po3.4
❗️Message potential English pupil’s mum
❗️Decide what to do with maths pupil online and send links to friend for her to print for him
❗️Teach lesson online

TheHoneyBadger · 13/07/2021 19:47

Hi just dropping in to say I'm AWOL but will be back. Kind of at the all bets are off just let's make it to the end of Friday and the summer holidays stage now.

Keeping on top of super basics like lol and dw rotation but that's it.

See you on the other side.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 13/07/2021 20:10

Good luck with the last week or so of term, Honey.

Sing such a pain trying to arrange DD1's bloods. Which reminds me, I must ring for my DD's bloods appt soon. Glad your meeting went well.

Ta da:
❤️ Took curtains to cleaners and persuaded DS3 to come with me
🧡 Posted BUPA letter
💛 Some writing
💚 Water softener man eventually arrived at 4pm, without the cabinet, fitted a tap and left again 🤷
💙 Ate too much fudge. It wasn't even very nice.
💜 Cooked gammon
🤎 I am now in bed because I keep dozing off. Looks like an early night is in order!

SingToTheSky · 13/07/2021 21:31

Ugh despite a good day I think the stresses of all the change etc has caught up with me and I feel totally stuck 😰 I have been doomscrolling on my phone for ages (although this has at least led to another potential tutoring job so not all bad I guess).

Really need to break myself out of this or I may well LMS 😳

po3.5
❗️Collect rubbish already sorted upstairs, bag up and put in outside bin
❗️Get DS to dig out his tap t-shirt
❗️Eat something - just realised I didn’t have dinner as I sorted the DCs’ early

SingToTheSky · 13/07/2021 21:56

Right, decluttered bags and rubbish from upstairs and kitchen out (DS took the bin round earlier), and bin re-lined in our room. And cleaned the desk with lurking dance show hairspray (worrying how effective that was… what’s in that stuff?!) as Cagletini had scribbled on it 🤬

Helped DS find his tap t-shirt, and got him to put a wash on including that.

My posh pizza is in the oven and I am NOT sharing.

SingToTheSky · 13/07/2021 22:28

Hmmm if yesterday was Muck Up Monday willow I think today may be Tits Up Tuesday. Although that is probably an insult to boobs and small birds.

EverythingDelegated · 13/07/2021 22:40

Tada!

Moved quite a lot of stuff from kitchen to shed
Went to work
Came home, DS had cooked dinner, ate dinner Smile
Builder came round to finalise kitchen plans
Took DS to football
Nipped to Tesco in football town in search of watermelon gin my friend told me about, no Tesco where I live, but they didn't have any
Came home
90 min zoom meeting
Drank wine
Helped Ds apply for provisional driving licence, didn't realise it was going to cost £34!
Off to bed now.

Honey hope you can hang on in till the end of term, the house can wait.

Hills - glad you got the consultation call, what a PITA it can all be.

Sing - yet another acronym for the Fledgling List - I like that you got a bird reference in!

MrsT - well done on mission fulfilment.

Willow - hope you get the water softener cabinet sorted.

I like tits up. but then i have enough boob to find them a blooming nuisance. Sometimes i really do wish i was of the itty bitty titty brigade. It would be more comfortable. because bras should be inflicted on men so we can have some more comfortable solution!

halfhope · 13/07/2021 22:55

I can't see why a truly comfortable bra can't be in existence. One that supports without wires or digging in, that can be washed in a washing machine without disintegration of bra or machine, that looks reasonably pretty and that can be put on or taken off by the wearer without her having to be a contortionist. In a range of colours. Now.(Sighs)

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/07/2021 22:57

ta da
study
medical appointment
revision
email check

to do
laundry
more study
email work to tutor

There is soooo much left to do tonight and as much as i needed to crash last night and have felt better today, I really lost a lot of study time. The end is nigh, but dang it I need more time. Can I get a time turner please?

MrsTidyHouse · 13/07/2021 23:06

Bathroom shelves and window this morning. Got the shelves tidy enough to be able to remove top shelf, and now I don't need a stepladder to reach anything. I suspect I have shrunk slightly, maybe half an inch. Continued out on to the landing and brushed the picture-rail and round the stairwell.

Felt intimidated by the amount of post that was lying by the front door. Separated it into junk for the recycling, fyi-type letters from gas, etc, and after doing that there is one urgent, three asap, and one for MrTH that I can't do for him. And if I force myself into the office tomorrow, it should all be reasonably straightforward.

SingToTheSky · 13/07/2021 23:18

i have enough boob to find them a blooming nuisance

Yep same 😩🤣

I am just about able to keep DLMS on my achievements for the day. Close call. DD1 was fabulous with Cagletini though 💐

Ha ed I didn’t even think of the bird link there. Thank you for still posting links despite lack of work internettage - hope it didn’t cause too much difficulty during the day!

Hope you’re ok honey boy do I relate to the just getting through it. 💐

Tomorrow I really hope will be better

Dancingtomusic · 13/07/2021 23:38

I actually do have a tits up situation.

My boobs have just joined the flappy spaniel ears brigade.😆 (Dont know why i am sharing that....) oh yeah....because today I had to lift them to get them into my bra. Yes young fledglings...its a thing....and no I dont care as I have seconds to dress before my 2 kids need something or I am dashing off somewhere. I see my bra as more of a seatbelt for my boobs rather than a shelf to prettily sit on. 🤣

Hills sorry for my crossed posts far up thread.

Sing-- i am sorry you didnt get the job but weldone on getting through a interview! Great practise.

Holiday update:
I am in parenting holiday hell. I have 2 kids under the age of 6 and keeping them occupied with parks, snacks, drinks, toilet breaks, different places to go.....means i am a slave to preping meals, washing dishes, changing clothes that get wet or muddy (shoot me...shoot me now) or choosing appropriate foorwear depending on weather and activity (shoot me, shoot me now.)

Worse still is the lack of sleep. Our holiday rental has 2 single beds in the kids room. My 2 need me near them to sleep so i barely slept for crying kids. They both have heavy colds and coughs 🤦‍♀️
Both have cried tonight and begged to go home. So i have pulled the 2 beds together and and sleeping at a odd angle over 2 beds. I my hip and back hurts. I am exhusted and cant sleep.
More hair has fallen out and bald section had got bigger (worrying so much)
Dh has been charging ahead with planning many thing to do and see. I am frazzelled and feeling like a empty shell of a person.

I want to go home.

The positives
There have been 3 nice things that happened.

  1. Dd stayed asleep in single bed all night. Granted i was on the bed opposite and held her hand for the the last part of the night. But she never asked to get out. She just wanted hugs.
  1. I did a tiny bit of painting. Havent done it for ages and loved it!
  1. Did an activity with the kids 1:1 and actually had fun.

Comforting to read this thread.
Willow- great you are looking into a cleaner. You juggle soo much. Course you can still be on the thread as everyone would miss you too much! 😆
🍒👋 everyone

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/07/2021 23:48

Dancing - dont worry about the x-post. this thread moves past.
I just hope willow saw the dairy free fudge link post as I forgot to tag her in it. Blush

Sorry you are in holiday hell.

Dancingtomusic · 14/07/2021 00:16

Thanks Hills. Hope you get some sleep tonight.

Sing- weldone for dmls today. Hope tomo is a much better day for you.

I cant sleep. I hv just moved a bedside cabinet to try a prevent dd falling onto the floor if she forgot its a single bed.
I hv gone to the room next door to lie down straight as i have stabbing pains in my side. I am on high alert for distress sounds from the kids. Going to force myself to rest and not go check on them for the millioneth time.

halfhope · 14/07/2021 05:43

I really hope you got some sleep dancing. A 'holiday' with sick kids is really hard.

halfhope · 14/07/2021 05:45

Morning all. I finished the shower room yesterday. I shouldn't let it get so bad in future. Someone comes to fix the freezer door today - it will shut, mercifully, but only with help.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 14/07/2021 08:07

Thanks Hills I did see the dairy-free fudge link. I am trying to decide if I can face going to Sainsbury's to look for some, as DS2 appears to have forgotten (and he works close to a Sainsbury's and could do it himself).

Dancing I'm so sorry your "holiday" is crap. Can DH be persuaded to slow down on his mad planning and do any of the difficult bit to keep the kids on an even keel? Hope you got some sleep eventually, this level of stress is going to lay you flat and then where will everyone be?

MrsTidy sounds like you are going great guns. Was it hugely satisfying to reduce a pile of post to 4 things that actually needed attention? Good luck in the office room today.

Sing suspect it might be Tits Up Tuesday here too. If anyone is short of Tit to go Up, I have plenty to go round! I have needed serious cantilevered scaffolding since my early teens and 4 DC and weight gain have only added to it.

ED well done on getting some kitchen shifted and committee meetings and links posted. You have a huge amount going on, shout if you need back up.

Half cross fingers the freezer door gets fixed. FIL has broken his again by refusing to eat any of the food in it, and trying to shove more in where there is not space. 🙄

SingToTheSky · 14/07/2021 08:17

Morning all.

Dancing I really hope you’re ok. Perhaps if ‘D’H is so keen to stuff a million activities into the holiday, he can take the kids to one while you have some peace Hmm let him do the rushing round making sandwiches and finding shoes and managing behaviour while there. He might actually see how much you do, then.

I need to collect a prescription and blood test form for DD1 today, and will have to see what else needs doing. I wanted to start getting stuff done in the house but not sure it’ll happen, depends what moods everyone is in! :(

po3.1
❗️Get dressed
❗️Meds, caffeine and breakfast
❗️Put phone on charge

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/07/2021 08:28

Gonna be honest i have not seen it in sainsburys for a while, last lot i got was for adsa but they often dont have. Apparently loads of people have decided that they wish to have a liefstyle choice diet change during the pandemic and i have noticed that the free from stuff is REALLY hit and miss as to what you can get. ok people you want to be healthy drop the processed foods and sweets, free from is survival not lifestyle

SingToTheSky · 14/07/2021 09:07

I agree hills (coeliac DH/DSD1)

po3.2
❗️Rotate laundry (including getting DS’ tap shirt out to dry flat)
❗️LOL
❗️Write list of today’s errands
