Hello and welcome to the July 2021 Fledgling Flylady Thread. Thank you Willow for an excellent pair of June threads. Welcome to one and all, old hands and newbies, lurkers and longtime posters and anyone in between. This thread keeps us vaguely on track with Flylady and is where we post our Ta Das and Yes Ta Das (what we did yesterday 😁), our To Dos and To Didn'ts, and discuss anything that comes to mind (often not housekeeping!).

The beauty of Flylady is that you are never behind, the whole system repeats every month, just jump in wherever. The aim is to gradually get into good habits and regular routines that keep the house ticking over rather than having a huge blitz on it.

To help you with this I'll be posting links to Flyady's Flight Plan and other useful parts of the website, which is updated daily, it's also good to go in and have a browse (some of it is a bit twee though). Do NOT sign up for the emails, you will be inundated.

The system divides the house up into weekly zones, then in each zone there will be timefor decluttering, a small daily task (the Mission) and each day of the week has a theme too (eg Errand Day). You can switch things around to suit your circumstances, there is a weekly Sneak Peek page to help you plan ahead. There are also 31 Babysteps, small daily habits to adopt (eg wearing shoes around the house if you'd rather not). Finally Flylady wants you to make time for you and your family, so weekends are more relaxed.

Jargon
Flylady (and the thread!) has a little bit of her own peculiar jargon it can help to know:
S&S - swish and swipe - a quick go round a bathroom or cloakroom to keep it acceptably fresh
LoL load of laundry. We are not collapsing into hysterical laughter over the state of our washing baskets
Hotspots any areas that tend to collect clutter no matter how often you clear them - mine is definitely the corner of the worksurface by the kitchen door, and the bookshelf at the bottom of the stairs
5 minute room rescue a quick whizz round any room to create a semblance of order
Weekly Home Blessing (often Home Bleugh here) - an hour a week to keep the house acceptable. I think this can only be done in an hour if you only have one bed in the house to change, so take it with a pinch of salt. I spread mine over the week as I cannot get it down to an hour and don't have an hour to give to it either.
Ned and Ted - imaginary friends often draughted in to assist with washing and ironing
BRC Bag, or box, of Random Crap
(D)LMS (Didn't) Lose My Shit - often a necessary acronym around spouses and teens!
Naughty Corner - the thread's imaginary space for rest and recuperation when it all gets too much. Often stocked with soft cushions, blankets, drinks and snacks. May or may not have a free bar, fire place, sunloungers, hot and cold running barmen etc.
Cherry waves 🍒👋 - lovely type for cheery wave that stuck!
All Fed and No One Dead - a good outcome to a busy day.

The beauty of Flylady is that is can be adapted to any household setup - lots of DC or just one, or none; a partner / spouse, or ex, or those going it alone; those working within or outside the home; shiftwork, you name it.

Our motto is No Fledgling Left Behind, so if you are a returner or a lurker, welcome on board, there is always space her for more Fledglings.

HazelNuttyElf · 12/07/2021 19:31

Red sorry to hear about the mites, hopefully you can get rid of them soon.
Sing 🤞 for negative tests for DH & DD
zoo thinking of you, in case you're reading this 💐
hills good to see you back on here
mc I hope you're feeling yourself again soon
🍒👋 to many more including willow, ED, Up, honey, hope, tidy & many more of you who are out there.

We had a busy weekend, prepping the pool area, putting said pool up & filled, got our fire pit at our house and used it on Saturday night for the 1st time at the new house! We just won't mention the state of the house on the inside but the outside is done, for now. Pics attached aren't the best as I was in the house.

HazelNuttyElf · 12/07/2021 19:34

Well, I'll try posting pictures 🤦‍♀️ mn is having difficulties apparently.

SingToTheSky · 12/07/2021 19:50

po3.6
❗️Bath and bed for Cagletini
❗️Decide actual plan for tomorrow given the need for DH and DD1 to isolate*
❗️Write a list of housework stuff we could try and achieve with more of us home more

*they did have negative LFTs luckily! But obv still have to.

YupIHave · 12/07/2021 20:40

Hope you are all flying high. Am absolutely knackered so doing nowt at the moment. Worked on work most of the weekend and back at work today, which was full on.

🍒👋🏼 everyone

EverythingDelegated · 12/07/2021 21:38

Sing - how frustrating about yet more SI.

Willow - how frustrating about mouldy cheese and lack of fudge.

Hazel - it all sounds impressive even without pics.

Yup - hope things ease off a bit soon.

Hills - you are right, the website didn't used to be quite as bad nearly 12 years ago.

Mc - poor McTiny. When my DS was cutting teeth the homeopathic teething sachets did seem to help, don't know if they are still a thing.

That - glad to hear that TinyThat is sleeping well. Fingers crossed no more SI.

Dancing - thanks for the Brew this morning, just the job.

Half - well done to MrHope on the insurance etc.

Red - hope chicken mites aren't too serious.

MrsT - that sounds like a good variation on power of three that you have got going now.

Kitchen looks as though a bomb has hit it, but a lot of stuff has been moved out to storage now, most of what's left can go into the front room/bathroom/landing wherever we end up cooking and eating. Such fun.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 12/07/2021 22:56

Ooh ED you could play at camping, in the house! How thrilling not. Good luck.

SingToTheSky · 13/07/2021 00:11

Good progress there ed!

Didn’t actually complete my last power of three other than the DW 😳 the house is chaos mentally if not physically

Should really sleep as tomorrow is busy starting with a 1hr phone call at 10. Then must plan my online maths lessons as obviously my pupil can’t come here due to DS/DD1.

Redsquirrel5 · 13/07/2021 00:26

Oh ED I remember it well.
That glad he has slotted in well just needs to readjust his morning feed😂 not ideal.

Mc poor McTiny. I used to feel so sorry for them teething. Oh and the nappies🤢
Hazel sounds great.
willow mouldy cheese yuk! The Lakes have vegan 🍨 ice cream.

Ta da
Bed made.
Moved suits to another wardrobe.
Sorted through some old birth certificates, some from the 1800’s.
Reorganised sheets, duvet covers, curtains.
Moved LPs(100)
Fed chickens.
Went to town for gloss paint to finish the door. Checked out other paint.
The Range - small shopping.
Late Lunch.
Reading. Might have had a short nap.
Organised everything for chickens.
Used paper towel to wipe some of the mites.
Removed straw.
Sprayed all the coop with diluted Jeyes fluid.
Hosed all the coop. Took out all the removable bits.
Grabbed and dusted each hen.
Watered all the greenhouse plants. Picked some strawberries for tea.
Cleared tad.

Red mite is hard to get rid of so we’ll Do it a few times. They are minute but do bite humand. I must have sensitive skin as I cold feel them it is now.
It affects the hens and makes them anaemia. Leading to death if you don’t try to eradicate the buggers.

I am dropping off.
🍒👋🍒👋🍒☕️🍒🤷🏼‍♂️👋🍒👋🍒👋

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 13/07/2021 07:36

Sounds like good progress on the mites there Red.

Honey, Yup, how are things this week?

I am up too early because the dog decided to bravely protect us from the milkman at 6am. Stupid hound.

Had better have a wash and get on, see if it helps my brain get going.

halfhope · 13/07/2021 07:42

Ah, you're going to have to have a post-action review with WillowHound.

I now know a lot more about chicken mites red 🤭

Laundry on. Need to pop to the shops later. Quiet house here.

Coffee is brewing - I've put some in the naughty corner too.

SingToTheSky · 13/07/2021 08:36

Morning folks. Something of a broken night as I kept waking up.

po3.1
❗️Breakfast
❗️LFT
❗️Shower and dressed

EverythingDelegated · 13/07/2021 08:46

Morning all, well, I got busy moving more stuff out of the kitchen this morning and didn't post links, thought I'd do it when I got to work, here I am and our internet is down. So I'm on my phone

Flight plan is here www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=240

Mission is to clean door handles etc in the bathroom and declutter the RHS of your computer desk

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 13/07/2021 09:05

Thanks for naughty corner coffee, Hope much needed! I've added fruit and yoghurt and continental cheeses and meats .

I have already debriefed WillowHound. It went like this:
Me: you daft dog, that's the milkman
WH: wuff! Grrrrrrr
Me: we want him to leave us milk!
WH: borkborkbork
Me: just leave him be and come away please
WH: Buff!
Me: is that all you have to say?
WH: huff. Whine?

So I think you'll agree I really told him what's what.

No tadas yet except getting dressed and breakfast and vitamins.

To do:
🏋️ Rest of morning routine
🏋️ Urgently decide what's for dinner
🏋️ Rest of home bleugh, if the hoover filters are dry
🏋️ Get partially dry washing into airing cupboard (stalled here last night, it's on the utility room door)
🏋️ Take urgent prescriptions to Tesco
🏋️ Review homecare people DH has asked to ring me - he thinks we need a cleaner. Not sure whether to be delighted or deeply offended. Please don't throw me off the thread if we do that!
🏋️ Work. More work. Additional work.

Dashing to Tesco pharmacy now.

halfhope · 13/07/2021 10:03

willow I'm just about coping with house cleaning and part-time work and I've only one child. And a husband who loves ironing. No judgement here if you delegate some of the cleaning.

halfhope · 13/07/2021 10:04

And we don't have any animals shedding hair.

MrsTidyHouse · 13/07/2021 10:18

Tackled the bathroom yesterday. Swept round the top of the tiling, then knocked off an area of flaking paint above the door. A lot of dust and fluff up there, and it looks so much better now although it's just the bare plaster. Today is within easier reach, up only two steps of the ladder; shelves and window.

I can't bear the thought of the office. Maybe keep that for the anti-procrastination Day.

SingToTheSky · 13/07/2021 10:37

Volunteer call moved to tomorrow so I now have a bit of time to get some HE done with DS before my supervision meeting.

po3.2
❗️Message piano pupil’s mum about this evening’s lesson
❗️Do some maths with DS and make sure he does chemistry or English with DH while I’m in my meeting
❗️Post an enquiry for my volunteer client on a specific group

All by 11.20ish.

SingToTheSky · 13/07/2021 10:58

Ho hum never mind DS is getting on with English on his own instead. Maths later I guess!

po3.3
❗️Tidy self up ready for meeting
❗️Get stuff ready for meeting
❗️Email manager as I have a specific question about my interview performance (I want to see how I did on the scenario questions)

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/07/2021 12:43

So i was expecting a call from my GP. Sometime before 12 today.
So far nothing. I am not available later or anytime else this week. I have to take a day off if they want to speak to me another time because the don't allocate appointments they just stick you on a list to be spoken to at some point in the day. I was supposed to be leaving here for sorting something about now.
I am tired and cranky and fed up with the medical profession atm. But they have until 2pm. At which point they are going to have to figure out how they hell to fix it. Because i am not taking an entire day off work for at their convenience phone calls. (Can't take personal calls at work due to policies and no cover to step away from role to do so).

I am a little frustrated and i fear that might be communicated in writing at this point.

halfhope · 13/07/2021 12:57

I think you should let them know Hills. I can take calls at work so someone in your situation should be prioritised imho.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 13/07/2021 13:02

I don't think that's an unreasonable way to feel, Hills. We had the surgery email this morning and this quarter's message is "stop getting ill and phoning us expecting us to fix it!". Also the Senior Partner is now the Clinical Director for 5 surgeries grouped together.

The loss of utility and access is in no way related to this.

Ta Da:
💖 Morning routine - DW rotated, kitchen wiped, S&S, LOL on
🧡 Home bleugh - upstairs dusting done, filters put back in the hoover
💛 BUPA bill processed (it wants posting to them. What is this, the dark ages?)
💚 DD's ADHD assessment bill payed
💙 prescriptions taken to Tesco - everything needs ordering. Humph.
💜 Menu planned (gammon for tea)
🤎 Phoned dentist about reinstating insurance as DH's new job doesn't cover it
🖤 Spoke to cleaning company.
💖 Helped DS3 with maths, converting miles to km. The teacher had told them 1 mile = 1.6km, but then did all the calculations with a km being 5/8 of a mile, and he was totally lost.

Still to do:
🎪 Take music room curtains to the cleaners
🐒 lunch
🎪 writing
🐒 filing
🎪 Harvey's water softener cupboard fitting man is an hour late
🐒 Window cleaner coming at some point
🎪 Need to talk to DH again about food shopping - he's not doing it, he's just referring to me to write the lists. It's quicker to cut out the middle man!

halfhope · 13/07/2021 13:08

All 9 of our GPs resigned when the health authority here decided to have a multi practice gp run private sector thingy at the practice. They've found jobs elsewhere in the city but they felt patient care would be compromised so they voted with their feet about the changes. Very strange to go back there in the pandemic with strange new GPs everywhere in the corridor.

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/07/2021 13:25

They did ring. And a long consultation was had. I will be honest it was worth waiting for even if it doesn't take things much further forwards.

Work is an absolute NO for anything personal conversation wise. Even if work policy allowed it is not practically possible. Mostly because I point blank refuse to discuss anything personal in such a public space. And there is no such thing as non public space in my workplace.

Well lunch eaten, phone call survived. I think there is a hill with my name on it once i have found a few bits and bobs.

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/07/2021 13:33

I have opinions about the multi practice thing. they be the same as why the gps walked out. twas my experience.
