Hello and welcome to the July 2021 Fledgling Flylady Thread. Thank you Willow for an excellent pair of June threads. Welcome to one and all, old hands and newbies, lurkers and longtime posters and anyone in between. This thread keeps us vaguely on track with Flylady and is where we post our Ta Das and Yes Ta Das (what we did yesterday 😁), our To Dos and To Didn'ts, and discuss anything that comes to mind (often not housekeeping!).

The beauty of Flylady is that you are never behind, the whole system repeats every month, just jump in wherever. The aim is to gradually get into good habits and regular routines that keep the house ticking over rather than having a huge blitz on it.

To help you with this I'll be posting links to Flyady's Flight Plan and other useful parts of the website, which is updated daily, it's also good to go in and have a browse (some of it is a bit twee though). Do NOT sign up for the emails, you will be inundated.

The system divides the house up into weekly zones, then in each zone there will be timefor decluttering, a small daily task (the Mission) and each day of the week has a theme too (eg Errand Day). You can switch things around to suit your circumstances, there is a weekly Sneak Peek page to help you plan ahead. There are also 31 Babysteps, small daily habits to adopt (eg wearing shoes around the house if you'd rather not). Finally Flylady wants you to make time for you and your family, so weekends are more relaxed.

Jargon
Flylady (and the thread!) has a little bit of her own peculiar jargon it can help to know:
S&S - swish and swipe - a quick go round a bathroom or cloakroom to keep it acceptably fresh
LoL load of laundry. We are not collapsing into hysterical laughter over the state of our washing baskets
Hotspots any areas that tend to collect clutter no matter how often you clear them - mine is definitely the corner of the worksurface by the kitchen door, and the bookshelf at the bottom of the stairs
5 minute room rescue a quick whizz round any room to create a semblance of order
Weekly Home Blessing (often Home Bleugh here) - an hour a week to keep the house acceptable. I think this can only be done in an hour if you only have one bed in the house to change, so take it with a pinch of salt. I spread mine over the week as I cannot get it down to an hour and don't have an hour to give to it either.
Ned and Ted - imaginary friends often draughted in to assist with washing and ironing
BRC Bag, or box, of Random Crap
(D)LMS (Didn't) Lose My Shit - often a necessary acronym around spouses and teens!
Naughty Corner - the thread's imaginary space for rest and recuperation when it all gets too much. Often stocked with soft cushions, blankets, drinks and snacks. May or may not have a free bar, fire place, sunloungers, hot and cold running barmen etc.
Cherry waves 🍒👋 - lovely type for cheery wave that stuck!
All Fed and No One Dead - a good outcome to a busy day.

The beauty of Flylady is that is can be adapted to any household setup - lots of DC or just one, or none; a partner / spouse, or ex, or those going it alone; those working within or outside the home; shiftwork, you name it.

Our motto is No Fledgling Left Behind, so if you are a returner or a lurker, welcome on board, there is always space her for more Fledglings.

Morning all,

Dancing Flowers I agree with the others, this is no holiday. Tell DH to take the DCs out somewhere as you need to catch up on some sleep.

Willow - I may well need back up help in the next couple of weeks, thank you for the offer.

Right, today's flight plan is here www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Our mission is to clean the front of the bathroom vanity unit and also our computer monitor.

Wednesday is Anti-Procrastination Day

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 14/07/2021 09:44

zoo! Good to see you lurking. Sending ❤️.

I will be anti-procrastinating today by reading my new book on inter-war house design. It arrived ten whole minutes ago, must get on! 😝

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 14/07/2021 10:02

Ok i have cooled down (and found deodrant) 😎🏖

🏝 all up fed dressed
🏝 dc 1-4 at school

🏝 breakfast cleared away
🏝 table scrubbed
🏝 dryer on
🏝 washer on
🏝 washing on line

halfhope · 14/07/2021 10:10

It is 16 degrees Celsius up here. I can't imagine what it's like to live in London when it is so hot in the summer...

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 14/07/2021 10:58

Its 18 here (north west), i mistakenly did school run pushing double pram up hill dressed all in black hence my near melting

Good to 'see' you zoo Brew

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 14/07/2021 11:38

Melting here too, having walked into town with DD to collect their history books for bridging work in jeans and boots!

Ta da:
❤️ Whole house hoovered
🧡 Bins emptied
💛 S&S, bed made
💚 Telephoned consultant's secretary about my foot - he has booked me in for surgery a week on Monday without talking to me, I don't think that can be done.
💙 Walked up to town to collect books
💜 Kebabs out of freezer for tea
🤎 Dry washing upstairs, damp washing into airing cupboard.

About to help DD approach her Room of Doom. Please send help if I've not come back by tomorrow lunchtime!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 14/07/2021 11:40

Oh dear lord JEANS! 👖 I spent most of my pregnancy in leggings and am finding the idea of more restrictive clothing very off putting atm!

SingToTheSky · 14/07/2021 12:05

I basically live in jeggings but I got some cropped linen kind of things when I bought my interview trousers (they were the ones I got paint on but it did come out!)

I had my last volunteer session with my first client this morning. It’s been such a great experience. Start my next set of six next week!

Not sure why but I’m feeling really restless now. Possibly just readjusting to the meds having had basically a week off. At least DS has done his science and English so far. DD1 has no work on Google classroom so she can tidy her room Hmm and Cagletini is busy with Playmobil.

po3.3
❗️Reply to message request about yet more tutoring (just basic to see what she’s looking for)
❗️Reply to a lovely unexpected email from old support worker
❗️Email summary of today’s session to supervisor and ask related question on WhatsApp group

I think the above shows how peopled out I am today 😳

SingToTheSky · 14/07/2021 12:07

Oh and in terms of cooler trousers I have a few pairs of cropped active leggings that I love, although they are very bright so I don’t feel confident wearing them out and about unless at the gym 🙈🤣

Right, really must crack on. No excuses as my power of three can be done from my phone!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 14/07/2021 13:00

Before this pregnancy i was always in jeans or jeggings, but i just can't face them now!

halfhope · 14/07/2021 13:34

👋👋👋👋👋 to zoo 🍒👋

HazelNuttyElf · 14/07/2021 13:37

zoo 💐 good to see you're lurking. I hope everything's OK
Surgery willow? is your foot still not healing by itself? Sorry if you've said already and I've missed it.
dancing DH must realise how exhausted you are? If he can't see that then you must point it out to him. You're burning both ends of your candle.
that leggings are the best! Although I do have some comfy stretchy jeans I wear for work.

Was going to add more, including my YesTaDas, but it's time for me to head to work. 🍒👋

SingToTheSky · 14/07/2021 14:19

Back to feeling stuck and anxious 😩

po3.4
❗️Beta blockers
❗️Eat something
❗️Decide - somehow - if I’m actually going to do my errands today or not.

SingToTheSky · 14/07/2021 15:53

Couldn’t face it so decided not.

po3.5
❗️Drink some water
❗️Move laundry on
❗️Wash Cagletini’s duvet

MrsTidyHouse · 14/07/2021 16:07

MrsTidy sounds like you are going great guns. Was it hugely satisfying to reduce a pile of post to 4 things that actually needed attention? Good luck in the office room today.

Willow. Tbh It was a huge relief, as I had let it pile up for at least a week, which I know is ridiculous because I get so overwhelmed by it all. And need to learn to tackle it when it arrives.

But yes, very satisfying to find that if I actually do something it gets done! Now that ED has posted that it's anti-procrastination day, I must act.

SingToTheSky · 14/07/2021 18:02

Well done mrsT

po3.6
❗️Very short walk outside
❗️Work out what’s happening when tomorrow as I have an appointment and online maths
❗️Finally write that “household tasks we can all get on with” list

to do

See ya all on the flip side!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 14/07/2021 20:19

Good luck Hills.

SingToTheSky · 14/07/2021 20:35

Best of luck hills you’ve got this! You have the Force of the Fledglings behind you 💐

Still haven’t done all my list but I did get an email back with further specific feedback on the scenario questions (I apparently answered all questions well, so she just added stuff I could also have said) - feel so lucky that they’ve been so kind and given me all this info :)

StillUpholding · 14/07/2021 20:42

👋 Zoo

Glad you’ve managed to enjoy some bits of the holiday Dancing. I love a holiday but I think it’s all
too easy for it to become “same shit different bed” for mums sometimes. Hope tonight is a better night!

Thanks That. Due early Jan so only 15 weeks currently but this is already feeling a lot harder than the first time round. Clearly my body has not aged well Grin. Hope you’ve cooled down.

Hills Hope you managed more studying than panicking. Good luck!

I’ve just remembered Mc, when you were a bit down about your DH the other day, meant to say to you that my DH was quite similar. He was great at looking after me after my section and would help when I asked, but he always just seemed to be going through the motions. Now she’s bigger and talks and plays he’s morphed into a brilliant Dad, and adores her.

Sending survival vibes to get you through the week Badger.

Rest of my personals are gone but hope everyone is well.

A definite WOW here, mostly spent isolating as DD has had a temperature. Thankfully negative came through this afternoon.

Small ta da list (because I was in an isolation grump):
✅ LOL x 2
✅ ironing
✅ s&s
✅ rearranged an appointment
✅ filled some more starting school forms in

YupIHave · 14/07/2021 21:26

Aye up everyone. 👋🏼

I've not caught up to date with the thread. Hope everyone is doing better than me. House is a tip, my stress levels are high because of work, acid reflux is awful and I'm exhausted from intensity of work and from trying to keep it together and from trying not to irrationally lose my temper at my family.

Good news is:

  • work has eased off somewhat as of today
  • 4 days off before I have to even think about it again.
  • DC in bed and DP doing hobby and I can relax and not have to talk to anyone.
-tomorrow is another day.
Dancingtomusic · 14/07/2021 21:54

up- thank.goodness you had a negative result while isolating. Hope your dd is ok and her temperature comes down.

Big hugs to everyone here - my phone is working again and internet is back - thank god.

Lots happened last night. Between 1.30am and 3am my ds fell out of bed 3 times. All i heard each time was a massive crash just as i was going to drift off. I felt terrible for him! The 3rd time he hurt his mouth so i dragged him in to the double bed with me. Just as 'd'h woke up drom being asleep on the settee. Then i moved to sleep in the kids room with my dd.
Finally slept at 5am till 8am. In the morning i got up with the kids for breakfast.
Today, i have been swimming and then in the afternoon i stayed in and organised and tidied the holiday let, while 'D'h took them out.

I moved the single bed into the room with the double bed so the kids can be with me.
Pushed all against a wall and the side next to my ds, i have put 2 bedside tables and dressing table footstool with mini suitcases ontop. So if he rolls over he wont fall and it all flush against another wall.

The kids were so happy when they saw it, and for the 1st time have not cried about missing our home.
Ds is asleep, dd keeps begging me for cuddles.
I can now sleep, knowing they are safe.

I have lost so much hair....i might aswell order a wig.
Oddly Dh was very angry i had moved the beds and i was offended.
He doesnt understand i am at breaking point from lack of sleep.

Some positives-

  1. Kids are sleeping safely.
  2. Holiday let looks clean, tidy and abit more organised so i feel calmer.
  3. I have figured out a way to dry the clothes on a clothes airer.
  4. Ds cant fall off bed.
  5. I did some super suitcase packing which helped 'd'h find the kids clothes.
I rolled all clothes and packed it ends up. I used very strong ikea, medium sized freezer zip lock bags for, swimwear, pants, vests, socks (i do have a organised part of me.)
  1. I have remembered to take my bp meds today so hopefully i can relax enough to sleep.
7.dh got pizza takeaways for dinner- yay.

Phew finally kids are asleep. 'D'h is in the kids room on the slimline single bed meant for kids.
Praying for sleep tonight.

half- thank you lovely
hills- goodluck for your exam.
zoo- hello 👋

I cant tpye more ....so tired.
🍒👋everyone.

Dancing 💐

po3.7
❗️Cancel Friday’s parkour
❗️Do birthday messages as requested for dance teacher
❗️Check jigsaw and decide if we are keeping it for when Cagletini is bigger

merryhouse · 14/07/2021 22:55

Hi all. Pissed off, not flying.

My fitness band which I requested for my birthday specifically to track my heartbeat doesn't pick up all my heartbeats once it gets past about 100 (it claimed I went from 126 to 81 in about three seconds on Friday). Back in the day when I had a phone with a heartbeat sensor it would often have difficulty tracking when it was raised so I suppose I shouldn't really have been surprised. Posted in the Exercise section to ask if anyone had any advice, and one of the two replies said I should use a chest strap one instead. Yes very helpful thankyou. (We do actually have a chest strap one but it's about 5 versions out of support and I don't think I can get the app)

I didn't get the job, and the interview feedback said I was appalling.

OK, they didn't actually use the word appalling. But when things are graded from 1 to 7, with 4 being about satisfactory, and I get two 1s and a 2, there's not really much else to conclude.

And I'd said everything relevant and felt I put myself across accurately; which means that I don't have the Skills and Behaviours required for an AA level post Sad

Currently thinking I might try cleaning, but have ignored the jobs I have open in tabs for so long I think they're all expired now.

Sorry I ignored your question Willow - but I know nothing about Cornwall anyway.

On a more positive note, S1 came home yesterday. And I have made a new batch of butter tablet (can you believe I got No Sweets Whatsoever for my birthday?) and we enjoyed Loki and are going to see Black Widow at the posh cinema tomorrow.

EverythingDelegated · 14/07/2021 23:23

Well done on the bed rearrangement Dancing - sounds very sensible.

Merry - sorry about the job, hope you enjoy Black Widow, my DH and DD have gone tonight, not back yet. They are also watching Loki but will have to catch up with it tomorrow.

Up - phew foe the negative test.

Hills

Yup -- glad you've got a few days break from work, sounds as though you need it.

Tada!

Got up
Put washing on
Instructed DCs to keep rotating washing while I was at work
Go to work
Pop out to shops at lunch
Ring DCs to remind about washing
DS rings me to ask if he can go to his friend's house (15 miles away, no public transport)
DD rings me to ask what time physio is
All of this while I'm in a zoom meeting
Finish work
Get DD, take to physio
Bring back DD, swap for DS and take to his friend's house
Come home, eat fish and chips
Do some emails
Do some kitchen decluttering
Drop something round to friend's house
Go and fetch DS home again
Hour and a half of kitchen decluttering and carting stuff up to the garden shed
DW on
Bring the dry laundry upstairs
Get more laundry ready to do first thing tomorrow
