Hello and welcome to the July 2021 Fledgling Flylady Thread. Thank you Willow for an excellent pair of June threads. Welcome to one and all, old hands and newbies, lurkers and longtime posters and anyone in between. This thread keeps us vaguely on track with Flylady and is where we post our Ta Das and Yes Ta Das (what we did yesterday 😁), our To Dos and To Didn'ts, and discuss anything that comes to mind (often not housekeeping!).

The beauty of Flylady is that you are never behind, the whole system repeats every month, just jump in wherever. The aim is to gradually get into good habits and regular routines that keep the house ticking over rather than having a huge blitz on it.

To help you with this I'll be posting links to Flyady's Flight Plan and other useful parts of the website, which is updated daily, it's also good to go in and have a browse (some of it is a bit twee though). Do NOT sign up for the emails, you will be inundated.

The system divides the house up into weekly zones, then in each zone there will be timefor decluttering, a small daily task (the Mission) and each day of the week has a theme too (eg Errand Day). You can switch things around to suit your circumstances, there is a weekly Sneak Peek page to help you plan ahead. There are also 31 Babysteps, small daily habits to adopt (eg wearing shoes around the house if you'd rather not). Finally Flylady wants you to make time for you and your family, so weekends are more relaxed.

Jargon
Flylady (and the thread!) has a little bit of her own peculiar jargon it can help to know:
S&S - swish and swipe - a quick go round a bathroom or cloakroom to keep it acceptably fresh
LoL load of laundry. We are not collapsing into hysterical laughter over the state of our washing baskets
Hotspots any areas that tend to collect clutter no matter how often you clear them - mine is definitely the corner of the worksurface by the kitchen door, and the bookshelf at the bottom of the stairs
5 minute room rescue a quick whizz round any room to create a semblance of order
Weekly Home Blessing (often Home Bleugh here) - an hour a week to keep the house acceptable. I think this can only be done in an hour if you only have one bed in the house to change, so take it with a pinch of salt. I spread mine over the week as I cannot get it down to an hour and don't have an hour to give to it either.
Ned and Ted - imaginary friends often draughted in to assist with washing and ironing
BRC Bag, or box, of Random Crap
(D)LMS (Didn't) Lose My Shit - often a necessary acronym around spouses and teens!
Naughty Corner - the thread's imaginary space for rest and recuperation when it all gets too much. Often stocked with soft cushions, blankets, drinks and snacks. May or may not have a free bar, fire place, sunloungers, hot and cold running barmen etc.
Cherry waves 🍒👋 - lovely type for cheery wave that stuck!
All Fed and No One Dead - a good outcome to a busy day.

The beauty of Flylady is that is can be adapted to any household setup - lots of DC or just one, or none; a partner / spouse, or ex, or those going it alone; those working within or outside the home; shiftwork, you name it.

Our motto is No Fledgling Left Behind, so if you are a returner or a lurker, welcome on board, there is always space her for more Fledglings.

I saw every hour last night. Sad

today is going to be hard.
the plan is simply:
survive work
study
food for all
bed around 10pm

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/07/2021 08:09

ED I am going to stick my fingers in my ears and go Lalalalala about the 10 years thing. How the flying fuck has it been that long?!

Dancingtomusic · 12/07/2021 08:12

Hi ED- its sounds like you have alot going on. Dont worry we understand. A kitchen refit- wow bet it will look amazing when its done. Hope you have a good day at work.Brew lots in the naughty corner.

MrsTidyHouse · 12/07/2021 08:25

Over the weekend I got into a nice rhythm of a spell in the garden, then inside for a bit of housework, then back out to the garden then some tv. I've stretched too high at some point and have achy tummy muscles, but all-in-alll it worked for me, and keeping fingers crossed for the same during this week.

SingToTheSky · 12/07/2021 08:26

That’s a loooong time 😩 would it actually be longer that you’ve been on Fledglings? I started my library job almost exactly 10 years ago and I’m sure I was on the thread when looking for work?! Although I’ve not been a regular thread member for the whole time. And I’ve not stuck to the routines either. Like, ever. 😳🤣

Today is going to need a gazillion power of three lists I think. I’ve been adding so much to my to do list note on my phone and it’s a total mess - if I try and make sense of it all I think I’ll just get overwhelmed, so I will pull out a few tasks at a time instead. I think I’ll try and keep a ta da list as well today as I’ve not bothered for several days and it might keep me motivated.

po3.1
❗️Meds and breakfast! Crumpets as the milk has inexplicably gone off.
❗️Sort laundry and put LOL on
❗️Get home ed books off the shelf to see what needs doing

SingToTheSky · 12/07/2021 08:30

MrsTidy that’s a great technique, hope you feel less achy soon!

ED that’s suddenly come round quick - it feels like only the other day the kitchen refit was a month away! Must be loads to do but you’ve got this!

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/07/2021 08:33

Sing i am ignoring long it was. I know how old teen was when i joined the thread. it is more then 10 years. I am in denial.

Especially as i still dont have the routines nor feel on top of things.

I need to get up for work. All i actually want to do is go back to bed and sleep.

halfhope · 12/07/2021 09:09

ed Flylady needs to get her house in order. That website is a disgrace 🤭 I can't find my way around at all. Things relatively under control here this morning.

SingToTheSky · 12/07/2021 09:50

I very much agree hope - really needs a redesign!

I was about to say I’ve done my first list but I realised I got distracted on the home ed task (as well as getting his stuff out I actually wrote his targets for the rest of term) and haven’t actually put a LOL on yet. Will do that next, and then:

po3.2
❗️Work out if we can get to a particular park today as a friend asked
❗️Ring opticians to change appointment from DS to DD1 who needs it sooner
❗️Go through diary with DH, as he’s currently trying to book various appts

SingToTheSky · 12/07/2021 10:49

po3.3
❗️Get dressed
❗️Message Tuesday pupil’s mum to check if piano is on tomorrow
❗️Go through phone note deleting irrelevant/completed tasks, as looking at it is freaking me out 🤣

halfhope · 12/07/2021 11:31

Ta da:FireAng

Morning walk (new thing to help productivity)
Drank water (new thing to help energy)
Got dh to haggle down home insurance so that's sorted for another year
Got dh to deal with smoke alarm company so that they could help work out which linked alarm is on the blink. Took an age by phone with dh running around checking all alarms but fair play to the company for working it out. They are sending new alarms as under warranty.
Ordered sticker for green bin - HEADS UP TO MC garden waste green bin permits are on sale online in this area now.

Laundry is under control
stripped the bed and washed bed clothes
am working away in work getting work work done :)
have sorted through household paperwork ready for filing (done before work started)
Menu plan done earlier
have taken vitamins

To do:
Organise lunch
another walk
stretching
Think about when to have sight test appointment

halfhope · 12/07/2021 11:32

Sorry FireAng relates to smoke alarm - cut and paste error

halfhope · 12/07/2021 11:35

I'm not firing anyone called Ang! (evil cackle)

halfhope · 12/07/2021 12:57

How's Babythat that? And how are you?

Redsquirrel5 · 12/07/2021 13:42

Great list That is Baby quite good at sleeping to get that much done?

Sing I have also got distracted. My other room is the boudoir. DH has decided to put the rest of his clothes in the wardrobe in his room which means I can have that wardrobe too. I have been shifting stuff- suits, coats etc. I made my bed without thinking and I forgot I was going to change it. Found a duvet cover that was missing. Just need to move baskets of random crap and now I have some more space I might be able to find somewhere to put it.

Chickens have mites.

SingToTheSky · 12/07/2021 14:38

Oh no red are mites easy to treat?

Today has gone somewhat wibbly as DH and DD1 are contacts of positive cases 😭 thus I’ve only just gone through my phone notes list and am still a bit overwhelmed at the thought of trying to figure out what to do next. DS has taken his chemistry book upstairs with DH as Cagletini is wildly stroppy and is definitely in need of some nice quiet TV time. Also had another panicked call from Tesco as DH’s new card didn’t work either?! 😭 But I used mine and that’s gone through so we still get food today, hurrah.

po3.4
❗️LOL into dryer and put towel LOL on
❗️Look up laser hub prices etc in case they’re available for DS’ birthday next month
❗️Write up latest maths tutor session

SingToTheSky · 12/07/2021 16:11

Argh. Been writing this post for ages and kept getting distracted and confused!

po3.5
❗️

Nope. Can’t think 🙄😳

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 12/07/2021 16:33

Urgh sing sorry to hear you have people needing to isolate! When had 2 dc isolate since baby has been born, everyone is currently NOT isolating and i am praying we make it to end of term!

Red baby ds is a good sleeper yes although will sometimes feed every hour from 1 to 5am, he has slotted in nicely though and we have some form of routine going on

Hope we are good ty! Enjoying not being pregnant 🤣

Mc3209 · 12/07/2021 18:07

That great to hear from you! Sounds like things are ticking over nicely in your household 😊
Sing ah no, that's frustrating re isolation.
Red I join in on the question, how do you treat mites in chickens?

I've been Home Bleugh-ing today, and even got a bit of zone cleaning done.
Ta da:
💥Bathroom blitzed, bathroom mat washed
💥Kitchen cleaned, DW rotated. Since then DH cooked, and now it's a mess again. I am not impressed.
💥LOLx3. I have an EMPTY LAUNDRY BASKET 💃💃💃 Miracles sometimes do happen.
💥Dusted
💥Rubber brushed carpets
💥Hoovered and sprayed everything with fabric freshener. I need to clean the hoover filter in the next few days. I need to remember to put a wee drop of essential oils on it, so it makes the house smell nice when hoovering.
💥Tidied up stuff on shelves in the piano room
💥Fishtank maintenance x1 (other 2 were done yesterday)

McTiny has a cold and is cutting 2 teeth (his first ones!). He is a bit miserable. I'm hoping not to catch the cold he has. Fingers crossed.

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/07/2021 18:26

Oh dear god no redesign to the flylady website. the last one she did took something usuable to this currently mess. Another redesign might make it even worse!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 12/07/2021 18:35

Afternoon! Lovely to see you That and babyThat. Glad he is slotting in well no choice when you're number six.

Mc that's a good list, hope McTiny's teeth come through without trouble, poor little mite.

Speaking of mites, oh no! Red. Can it be treated easily?

Sing really sorry about isolating and your plans for finishing off HS for the year. Did the lateral flow tests come back ok for DH and DD1.

Dancing hope you got away ok and everyone had footwear. Glad you got an emergency prescription.

MrsTidy in and out from garden to house sounds like a great way to approach things.

Today has been One Of Those Days and I am angry and frustrated in equal measure. 50% of everything I've touched has gone to shit.

On the plus side:
❤️ Morning routine - washed, dressed,. vitamins, breakfast, S&S, LOL on, dinner out of freezer, kitchen swept.
🧡 Home bleugh - sheets and towels done yesterday, downstairs dusting and woodwork / finger plates done.
💛 Made dental appointments
💚 Paid three bills
💙 Phoned a client, who wanted to meet today
💜 DH started his new job ok
🤎 DS3 walked the dog and got on with his homework unassisted and without flappage
🖤 Wiped kitchen cupboards, cleaned hob where DS2 had occurred

Ta didn't:
❌ Hoovering, as DH.blocked it with plaster dust again. Instead I cleaned the filters and watched as it tipped crap all over my newly swept kitchen floor, because he hadn't emptied it either
❌ Washed the kitchen floor because DD needed to make bubble tea in the 15 minutes before my client arrived
❌ I DID make lasagne, but the cheese sauce boiled over onto the clean stove, then it wouldn't thicken properly, then the egg I beat into it curdled so we have cheesy scrambled egg on top 🤦❌
❌ I did not have delicious Huntsman cheese with oatcakes for lunch because the piece I bought on Friday was mouldy. On closer inspection, this was because it was 5 days out of date when I bought it. I took it back to Tesco hoping for a swap and every other piece was also out of date. The poor shop assistant at customer services.went white when I showed them to her. So I have no cheese
❌ I promised DS2 some dairy free fudge but it does not seem to be a thing.
❌ I wrote a long lunchtime post on here and my phone ate it.

I calling today for Muck Up Monday and giving up!

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/07/2021 18:58

Willow it is totally a thing. You can dairy free fudge from sainsburys and asda. Although i have noticed that supplies are a little sporadic atm

SingToTheSky · 12/07/2021 19:00

Ha hills very true. I was just hoping for a decent web designer to offer their services to our fairy friend! :o I have to admit I’m a bit of a snob with websites though, in the same way I am about board games - I like a neat user friendly aesthetic and avoid disappointing ones 🤣 terrible really as it’s not like I have any skills in designing either.

Good to see you mc hope you’re ok as when I was catching up on the thread you were upset with DH not being much help :( I hope he’s doing better 💐

po3.5 attempt 2…
❗️Rotate DW and make sure the Caglets also do their chore wheel tasks
❗️Message friend about usborne order and check PayPal
❗️Towels into dryer
