Well, here we are embarking upon part 6 of our epic journey of sorting out our homes.

We are a varied group of likeminded householders that are leading somewhat challenging lives; be that living with too much 'stuff' that we find difficult to deal with, houses that are falling apart (mine included), health issues within the family unit, wider family, or ourselves that makes sorting out our households challenging, to say the least. So...

Anyone and everyone is welcome to join us for support, adding their own ideas to help others out, storage ideas, even tips on actually getting those items out of the house which sounds so simple when you say it. Encouragement abounds here, and we do not criticise. EVER! We even try not to criticise ourselves as it's not helpful to anyone.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, don't know where to start, can't be bothered but really do want to be bothered...think you are lazy, just need to see it in print here...we'll help. We'll virtually fist bump your achievements - small or large, and virtually hug you when the need arises, and if you want a hug, just ask because we are here for you. Here for one another because we get it - the highs and the lows, the art of washing up is sometimes our great achievement of the day, but it's still an achievement.

Welcome to thread #6 of Hoarders Anonymous - Carrying On Sorting It Out

I have been sorting out the detritis in the bathroom and putting some stuff away, in order to make room for stuff from ds's room.

DownUdderer · 25/06/2021 04:58

I've swept, hoovered and mopped. I've got my third load of laundry in the machine. I've put veg peelings in the small compost I'm starting in a box, in the garden.

I dusted a big load of Lego! It's been out for quite a while, the kids built it, but it had gotten dusty.

I sorted out a big storage bag that I'd been ignoring for a couple of years.

Wiped the table at chairs.

I'm charging up the robot vacuum, I stopped using it because everywhere was too cluttered, but now I have a lot less clutter.

I've emptied a big bag of garden cuttings into our green bin.

BlackeyedSusan · 25/06/2021 13:30

I think my floor would result in a robot vacuum quietly shaking in a corner having a robot nervous breakdown. Blush

you sound like you are making good progress down.

today: get a boy up, fed and to school.
organise a phone consultation for an injury (informal)
OT appointment
hung wet washing
taken washing to ds's room and put away.
tried out some OT activities.
put one book in the charity bag.

Gardener visited this house garden yesterday and it’s looking nice and tidy for the summer now . I think we’ll just do a little trim again in the fall before moving out ( there’s no lawn but a few trees and bushes in a box end of the patio garden and a climbing plant covering the fence all of which he cut back a lot ).
Been doing more admin , laundry and cleaned again downstairs after sorting out all DD clothes earlier in the week but I still need to dust in the first floor and clean rest of the bathroom in it . Also have to fold the clean laundry pile . Now our puppy’s got a pretty horrible cough so everything is going wrong here , we’ll have to see if he can have his operation next week or not . Had to book him the vet for tomorrow morning and cancel today’s grooming which is annoying since he’s got some awful matted knots on his legs we can’t untangle ourselves from being in the rain and roughly dried at his doggy daycare a week ago also it’s 4 w from last grooming next w so we really wanted to get it done before his neutering on Tuesday . Tomorrow afternoon is DD go karting party outside luckily forecasted good weather here . Mon her sports day then it says rain so we’ll have to see . I can’t decide if the the cough sounds like a kennel cough or allergies or something else so we’ll see what the Vet says . We’re recording it incase he doesn’t do it at the vet so they can see and hear for themselves . I have a bad feeling the op will be postponed …

Nordicmom · 26/06/2021 00:14

Weekly laundry pile folding is done and I descaled and scrubbed my shower hose too . so satisfying it came up super shiny . On Sunday more cleaning and jobs in the house and DD homework . it’s the Vet for the puppy’s cough and DD party tomorrow after sadly missing on having a 8 th one completely although we did later have her birthday special day out to Harry Potter Studios abs of course celebrate at home on the day . Don’t expect to get anything dude done tomorrow .

I spent an hour yesterday faffing trying to buy something online... and dealing with the subsequent meltdown when it did not go well. I have spent two hours this morning cajoling kids to get ready and dealing with the whats the point dad's never on time whinging.

a couple of hours to myself now. which turned into a whole day doing nothing... oops

Miaowse · 27/06/2021 13:48

I have this quote running around my head

Hoarder's Anonymous, Part 6
Miaowse · 27/06/2021 14:29

I just forced myself to do something small in a effort to start the unslumping and have made a batch of flapjacks. The intention was to use up part of a bag of out of date oats but after I’d melted the butter/sugar/syrup the oats smelt a bit weird so they are in the bin & I’ve opened a fresh (in date) pack of porridge oats. Space cleared, and I’ll have a tasty treat for later. Dishwasher emptied, most of a wash hung out, two books in the charity shop box. Now I’ve stalled again.

DownUdderer · 28/06/2021 06:57

@Miaowse I like that quote! Is it from Eeyore?!

I'm in Australia, in NSW and we're in a two week lockdown! I was really surprised that they announced a lockdown. I don't mind following the rules, it just changes things all of a sudden. I am happy that I can do my groceries online. It did make my head spin for a couple of days, but anyway.

I have been looking for something today, I think normally I would just do a half hearted look, but I haven't got anything else to do so I've been really trying to find this hexagon ruler that I have for patchwork. I'd like to do some sewing tomorrow. I had a look under my bed, and it's the last little area in this room that's not been made nice! I pulled things out and they were coated in dust. I have been dusting and hoovering things and most things are going in the bin or recycling. So I guess I'm glad I've been forced to sort this last area.

It's the school holidays so I don't need to do at home learning.

I did some tidying in the garage today. We have done quite a lot in the garden over the weekend.

I'm just aiming to keep myself busy each day for two weeks and doing some decluttering and cleaning jobs will feel like an extra bonus.

Miaowse · 28/06/2021 09:36

It’s from the Dr Seuss book Oh the Places You’ll Go. Text here:
denuccio.net/ohplaces.html

You seem to be making great strides Down, well done!

SingToTheSky · 28/06/2021 10:54

That is one of my favourite Seuss quotes! 🥰

Managed to get rid of a bit more yesterday. Must focus on studying and job applications today though.

Nettleskeins · 28/06/2021 13:08

My fave doc Seuss quote (off top of my head) is...
"I said what I said
and I said what I meant
An Elephants Word is 100 percent"

It is my motivational motif Grin it is the story of the elephant who sits on a bird's nest at the birds request...not that is relevant to life

DD is listening to Hercules I can go the distance interspersed with Sound of Music. At least they have all been awake since midmorning

SingToTheSky · 28/06/2021 14:04

Oh yes, Horton hears a who!

BlackeyedSusan · 28/06/2021 23:51

right:
yesterday was put a load of washing in before we leave....
chase flies. turn flies to walks, before they cease to be...
(go on a day trip to relatives)

today:
kid up, fed and two taken to school, including PE kit found. tie retrieved from car door and handed to passing child who was dropped further back up the road where there is parking for their side of the car.

shopping
sorting some life admin
started on cleaning up after flies that got in. Thankfully these are jobs that required doing anyway. so:
wiping down draining board and adjacent tiles, wall and worksurface.
moving and damp dusting bottles of elderflowerchampagne and checking for over pressurised bottles so they do not go bang in the night
wiping front of washing machine
wiping front of cupboards
starting on the washing up. (now finished washing up)
wiping down the big worksurface
collecting and sending out the recycling
sending away a bag of charity stuff. (added two more t shirts today)
sent compost out yesterday as the fly was particularly interested in that and I did not want maggots or more flies YUK
cooked a favourite intricate tea (allergic and non allergic versions)
put stuff back under the stairs. it need a few clear days to do sorting.
wiped shopping and put away.
hung yesterdays washing to dry
rehung yesterdays washing to air away from the clothes horse
stripped ds's bed, remade with clean sheets and bedding
unpacked some of the bag from yesterday
washed one swim towel and associated colour washing washed two loads of bedding with associated colours. (the patterned duvet does not like going in a same load as the plain matching sheet. )

the kitchen is looking acceptable now. just got to get other rooms to acceptable.

Talking of screws, ds managed to rip open a box of screws from the diy stuff that is in the bedroom that is transitioning to his bedroom. I have just been picking up screws out of his carpet and hoovering.

today's jobs.
boy up, fed, cajoled to get dressed
school run
washing up after yesterdays big cook with twice the pots and pans due to allergies.
emails to school
several phone calls to school, and kid and kid's dad trying to trace a child.
an hour of junk food/silence indulgence in preparation for ten days of not being alone.
put yesterdays dry pots away.
hoover kitchen floor, hall, stairs and so far half of the landing.
wash the stairs.
which lead to cleaning the bathroom basin (in which I rinse the sponges)
also unblock bathroom sink (regular maintenance job)
picked up fifty billion screws, and picture hooks.
get out new pack of loo roll from the brexit stash, wipe off the dust (stored under the vent to the loft, very dusty)
stuff some of the crap from ds's room into the airing cupboard. (going for out of sight, out of mind temporarily as this is not the top priority job)
put ten things in recycling and several bits in the bin.
redistribute dry and damp laundry. (dry to dd's room to put away.) nearly dry to furniture in living room to air. (just finishing off)
hang two loads of washing. (one in basket from last night and one in machine)
going to have coffee before finishing hoovering ds's room

BlackeyedSusan · 29/06/2021 21:26

finished hoovering the part of ds's room that is not under the bed (inaccessible, gap big enough to allow dust in but not a hoover)
put another load of washing on.
started empyting a decorative box that has my stuff in but has been broken by ds and split its sides.

DownUdderer · 30/06/2021 12:58

A charity shop put a collection bag in my mail box, so I filled it up with clothes that I can pass on. I have put 5 bags out, I hope they get collected tomorrow. Four bags from the garage of baby and toddler stuff that I hadn't really I had down there.

I can't find a hexagon template that I want to use for patchwork. It's in the house somewhere, I've been looking for it for two days.

Miaowse · 30/06/2021 16:10

Feeling very pleased as three very big admin tasks that have been hanging over me have now been done and two other smaller things dealt with too. Still have more frogs on my list but it is certainly progress and I feel much lighter.

Miaowse · 30/06/2021 22:57

Any luck with the hexagonal template Down? It’s so frustrating when you know you have something but it’s seemingly vanished into thin air.

I have put a Christmas novelty mug and a book in the charity shop box. Other recent outs - an impractical Spider-Man cup and two pairs of too small trousers. I had another sort of the food cupboard and consolidated two partially used jars of bay leaves into one (jar in the recycling), I finally dumped an open and very OOD box of risotto rice plus an open spice sachet that wasn’t very tasty.

DownUdderer · 01/07/2021 03:55

I've had two pretty good looks for the hexagon template/ruler. I can't find it. Annoyingly I just know I'll have put it somewhere silly! Sometimes I put things away and I even say to myself "that's a stupid place to put that". So maybe I'll look for it again this afternoon, but yes I'm annoyed with the ruler/template and annoyed with myself!

My chair shop bags were collected this morning! I'm so pleased.

Well done on admin jobs, @Miaowse. They can take up a lot of brain space.

BlackeyedSusan · 01/07/2021 11:53

Just having a fucking nervous breakdown after booking parents evening appointments.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 01/07/2021 11:53

oh BES

huggy hugs my love

BlackeyedSusan · 01/07/2021 11:53

so well done onthe admin jobs.

I hate fucking admin

BlackeyedSusan · 01/07/2021 11:54

that's not even attending the fecking things. virtually. Just hope they do not run hopelessly late again as they do in person.
