Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Obviously the boxers were holey, not holy. Although they did seem fairly sacred to DH when I first suggested it was time to get rid.

halfhope · 08/05/2021 19:04

😂 eternal boxers if not hol(e)y

MC we put all household detergents and meds up high. Stairgates and socket covers but heard the latter could make things more dangerous. Identified any dangerous plants in garden - laburnum in the front. Replaced blinds to spring loaded not cord. Got rid of top heavy furniture that could topple. You can get furniture straps to secure to wall. Put TV on wall. Checked window locks. Short cords on kettle etc

If you do want to cover sockets i think these are the safer option

214 lego steps reversed out, 121 to do tomorrow then we can post it off. My thumbs are very sore!

Mc3209 · 08/05/2021 22:31

Thank you very much for excellent advice, everyone! Looks like I need to get shopping.

Willow That's pretty impressive.
Up what is it with men and their attachment to old underwear? Now I just bin the offending tatty item when I do laundry and inform DH he needs to buy new pants. Same with socks.

EversoDelighted · 08/05/2021 22:42

Mc - another yes to the big cage fireguards, we had them round both our fireplaces. They made it too much hassle to use the fires but saved trips over the hearth and possible cracked heads on the corners and were handy for drying washing over. Also, if you have a rotary washing line, either leave it up, put a tight fitting cover over it if down or put it in a shed, when folded the loops of line are just the right height for toddlers to get tangled up in. Also get rid of any drawstring bags you may have hanging around the house. My two weren't climbers at all, which was lucky, but we still put all the chemicals etc very high up or locked away. Sharp knives on a magnetic strip on the kitchen wall, not in a drawer. Cups of coffee and the kettle always right at the back of counters and tables. Chests of drawers fixed to walls as well as bookcases. Use the back ring on the hob and turn pan handles as far back as you can. It all becomes second nature very quickly.

Sorry to have been AWOL this week, lots of kitchen planning stuff still going on and I had a particularly busy week at work. Everhot colour was settled on today (Red - I know you're away, but if catching up, we settled on marine blue, it was very helpful to go to the showroom again today).

Welcome to @upincloud9, congratulations on your impending arrival.

Hey I keep forgetting to get on here in the day so sorry that I keep coming on late😳. We went to the farm today it was Emilia’s first time going to a farm she loved it and thankfully we managed to get there this morning before the weather became bad so we were able to take our time and not rush from the rain. I can’t sleep I’ve got such a bad headache🤕

I’m happy you all like the stickers I’ve got a few other ones dotted around the room and the wallpaper was put up not long again. It’s all ready for little man now except for his cot but I’ll move that in when he’s a little bit older.
hazel well done on getting so much packing done glad to hear that the end is in sight for you we moved recently and the packing and unpacking drove me insane😳
up you’re cat is so beautiful look at them eyes omg 😍
sing Good luck with the assignment work
hope Sorry you missed your call but glad that he was understanding ☺️
willow I hope your DH feels better soon 😌
that I hope UFM has gave you some time to rest💖
ED thank you😁
I’m going to try and get some sleep now other than the basics there hasn’t been much to do around the house. Tomorrow will be quite busy as it’s my weekly shop day and I’m going to attempt to get the last bits needed before little man arrives. Goodnight everyone 👋🏻

SingToTheSky · 09/05/2021 07:51

Ooh did I miss a troll or some spam 🤔

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/05/2021 08:38

I'm awake. I suppose I should go make cake and put laundry.

Oh god. I have dough babies to deal with. I forgot the dough i was proving for bread rolls. Crap! Let's home they haven't escaped the bowl...

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 09/05/2021 08:44

Cake ❤

Wtf is a dough baby? Sounds scary!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 09/05/2021 09:02

I missed a Spam I wonder what sort it was? I particularly enjoy the ones about witches returning one's husband to one with a simple spell.

I appear to be awake. Hopefully DH is making me a cup of tea, then I suppose I'd best get on with all the usual Sunday Stuff.

I was going to add a cute picture of the dog, but he stopped looking cute and started licking his undercarriage, so I decided discretion was the better part of valour.🤢

Lovely farm pictures, Cloud and epic list there zoo. Hope you got some rest over night. Sounds like DD1 is being lovely about the bridesmaids' attire, hope it can be sorted out soon.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/05/2021 09:09

willow scoutcat gets "excited" when petted and then proceeds to lick it.it has worsened in lockdown.if/when I allow anyone in he will need to be banished from rooms or if we want get rid of them invited in
That doughbaby is when bread dough is left to rise(and sometimes gets out of hand)

Tada
Cats fed
Wash on
Kitchen surfaces wiped
Floor swept
Zoolets woken(dd2 refusing to sleep til literally can't stay awake then expects be left all day.erm no.esp as isn't doing anything but scrolling when awake.overwhelmed I can do with bells on IF helping herself

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/05/2021 09:33

Dough baby wise It is worse if you hot rise the bread too. It ends up full of air and slightly fermented. Thankfully the dough babies were kind enough to burp themselves overnight so no bowl escaping happened.

If i know i am going to leave bread to rise over night i prefer the cold rise method which doesn't encounter the issue so much as it is a much slower rise process. But I did them hot rise as i wanted them done last night. the bread will be fine once cooked though, it will just have that slightly soured taste of sour dough. No one will notice there will be too much cheese and ham cooked into them Wink

ta da
Breakfast is being eaten
social media stuff has been done
1st run of face masks are in to soak
slow cooker is on and running with a hearty warming soup for tea for the people for tea
I am just considering the plan for the day. there are 2. one that should happen and 1 that i would prefer to happen. What actually will happen should be a mixture of the two.
