Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

EventuallyDistracted · 31/03/2021 22:00

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

Excellent power of threes red and dancing - I think I need one myself now. I managed with a proper, long to do list yesterday but my head’s not in the game this morning and I’m feeling a bit anxious, although I put a LOL in first thing.

Morning all! Some brilliant lists here.

Dancing sorry DD is unwell and you feel ill too. Hope a sit down with a cuppa assists. Try not to fret about the job (easier said than done, I know).

zoo suggest you barricade DD2 in the shed, tell her it's her chrysalis and not to come out until she is nice!

ED buggeration re: the braces. I agree, life has suddenly got insanely fast again. I don't know where my weekend went.

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 26/04/2021 13:53

DF protein muffins:
250g plain flour
1 tbsp baking powder
100g sugar
75g vitalite
1 egg, beaten
175ml lactose free milk
3 scoops collagen powder
150g raspberries, fresh or frozen.

Pre-heat over to 200 (180 fan).

Mix flour, baking powder and sugar. Rub in vitalite then mix in protein powder. Mix milk with egg and fold carefully into dry mixture - leaving some lumps is fine. Fold in raspberries.

Spoon into 12 muffin cases (about a soup spoonful each) bake for 20-25 minutes.

Have not tried, but they should also work with blueberries or bananas and raisins, I would think.

We only have collagen powder because DS2's body is a weightlifting temple. Or something. The original recipe had no protein powder in.

Stilllivinginazoo · 26/04/2021 14:42

wader never seen a recipe where the butter rubbed in in a muffin before!
Bloody assisted delivery binmen have passive aggressively left bin, handle facing at front door blocking exit... they collect it from under living room window- bump it up a step and out the gate and return to said spot.or they're supposed too.....

Redsquirrel5 · 26/04/2021 16:00

Waders no wonder you’re tired!

I haven’t done my Pof3 yet. DH had other plans and I had forgotten a few things.
I had the pots to paint and the weather was good so I did that after breakfast. Cleaned the bathroom and LOL in. One LOL out on the line I put it on last night. Weather has gone dull and cool now so am glad DH reminded me about the pots. I have blackened them all but I need to do there bottoms. They have spring plants in so it is difficult but I propped some up on stones so one side is done. I finished the old fire too so I need to find the nasturtium seeds to germinate.

Felt really tired after lunch so have had a lie down and watched the hour film. Thought I would sleep for 10 minutes but 👎 nope.

Up to do Pof 3 now.

SingToTheSky · 26/04/2021 16:17

I did my power of 3 but haven’t achieved anything else. PoTS flare = collapsed on hallway floor, now in bed! Long chat with DD1 once she got home (school angst) now back to watching stuff on my phone.

Roundthewrekin · 26/04/2021 17:02

Hi all it’s ships with a name change, sorry I haven’t been on here!. I did a bit of a flounce last week after spending some time on AIBU because of the nastiness but realised if I stick to these nice corners I’ll be fine!.

Huh - raining heavily here so ds soccer training off. I think he might need braces when he is a little older - so glad you found your son's brace ED.

Mc3209 · 26/04/2021 18:53

ED woooo!! That's excellent!
Sing hope you feel better.
Round yes, it's best to stay away from viper's nest that's AIBU.

💥Dinner into a slow cooker - chicken and bean chilli
💥Rotation DW
💥Kitchen cleaned - cupboard fronts and all
💥Beds stripped and remade

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 26/04/2021 20:17

Hey Round, this is the nicest corner of MN, and the only one a lot of us stay with!

ED Yippee! Much joy all round, I should think.

Hope sorry about soccer training. Did you have house painting going on, or have I hallucinated that?

Sing so sorry the PoTS has flared and you collapsed - hope you can rest up enough and conserve enough spoons for it to be a short flare. Sending healing thoughts.

zoo the original recipe called for well chilled butter, grated in. No use in a DF recipe, obvs, so I just subbed vitalite and rubbed it in. DS2 had no complaints, given the speed with which he hoovered them down! Sodding bin men - we are on a corner, so often have to rescue our bins from up and down the street because there is council land in front of our house and the bins can only be on the boundary. Anywhere else and the Town Clerk goes apoplectic.

Thanks lovelies am feeling a little better now, rested in bed for a bit and had dinner in bed too 😳 but managed to do most of the bath/bed routine with Cagletini.

Tesco arriving soon so I’d best wake DH up to answer the door - we did stories together and he fell asleep before she did 😂

EventuallyDistracted · 26/04/2021 21:43

Evening all,

Well, what a peculiar day. I woke up feeling thoroughly disgruntled about the braces, got up a bit late and spent more time looking in the nooks and crannies of the car, so I didn't have time for breakfast or making a packed lunch.

Dropped DD at the station, dropped car at garage for MOT, chatted to garage man (I've been going there for 10 years) apparently the government allowing a three month extension on MOTs this time last year has left them with virtually no business for three months now but will be mega busy again later in the year. Walked round to work.

Phoned rugby club re gates at lunchtime, no reply. Phoned again at 3, helpful woman answered and went to look for me, no luck and said there was a car parked where I had been but it was more or less the only one there. Made excuses to boss (will make up the time later in the week) and legged it back to the garage to get my car and drive to rugby club (luckily it passed the MOT). Found car parked in "my" space, which was on chalky gravel so hard to see anything. There was a film crew working in the other part of the car park and someone wandered over to me, I explained and asked if they knew whose car it was, he called his mate, a bunch of them came over to watch, car was moved. Couldn't see it at first but then there it was. Picked it up fearing it had been run over but no! Perfect! Friendly chat with film crew and woman from club and drove home again to a very grateful DS.

Then, the icing on the cake, did I mention that the fridge packed up last week? Went into the kitchen, absent-mindedly opened the fridge and it was cold again.

So, that was a good day. I've been for a walk up to the bluebells again too this evening, they are fully out now.

OP posts:
EventuallyDistracted · 26/04/2021 21:53

Thank you for all your kind wishes re the braces BTW. I really didn't think I'd find them.

Round - sorry to hear about the AIBU experience, I hid that topic a few years ago and am a happier MNer for it.

Hills - well done on the bras, I am mainly wearing Sainsburys ones at the moment.

Sing / Zoo - that's what DS does too, says he's stupid when he really isn't.

Red - I read your post yesterday and thought we had similar days, I was sorting out plant pots, tomato plants etc in my potting shed and generally tidying it too. It was great to totally clear it out for painting as it is so much better organised now, I felt very relaxed in there yesterday (pre brace incident).

Dancing - hope you felt a bit better today and that you get a reply about the job soon, it's horrible waiting for these things.

Redsquirrel5 · 26/04/2021 22:20

Oh ED That is brilliant news. So lucky that car didn’t drive over it. Great about the fridge too.

Dancing I will take a photo when it is all finished. A little more on the edges of the door where the joiner sheared a little bit off and the very top of the door needs doing. Finished the old carcass of the multi fuel stove. Went around with the brush and freshened up the hanging basket hook, boot scraper from the front, bird feeder, Angel bell and a bit on the gate. Feel quite satisfied with my achievement.

I got the Pof3 done. Whizzed through the dusting. Then finished the rest.

DH made sausage and mash with onion gravy. Just the thing as it has turned from red hot at lunchtime to very cold. Rain expected tomorrow.

Round I think we have all been bitten at one time or another. I also had to name change after commenting on another thread. It was nasty too. Not from the OPbut two others. Lick you wounds and stay here.i read them but don’t comment or a comment then don’t post it after I have thought about it. Occasionally post but mainly stay in the Home and Garden bit.

merryhouse · 26/04/2021 22:52

ED how apposite were those bluebells!

Today I have
checked that S2 was aware of the time (he was, but didn't realise for another half hour that it wasn't the weekend - I wondered why he gave me a funny look. Monday is a late start so it was ok)
had tea, coffee, breakfast
cleared draining board
washed the mattress protectors
washed a torn sheet
remade our bed with fresh mattress protector and sheet
removed empty cardboard box from S2's room (emptied the rubbish out of it on Friday, now decided he can use the smaller one)
made new cardboard holder for the pizza blade (go me)
recycled rest of box
drunk Moar Coffee
done exercise class
shower etc
lunch
watched Call the Midwife (currently trying to decide whether think Nice Tragic Man should get together with Trixie or whether that would be Terrible Plotting)
cleaned the bathroom
washed the towels
done a top-up shop (walked home wondering if I'm anaemic cos it was Hard Work)
made curry

Previous to today I have
voted
thrown out a pair of H's painty jeans (there's another pair)
put three of the shirts in the rag bag, rescued another which turned out to be not a Decorating Shirt at all just missing a button, put the fifth in the Sewing Pile of Doom with a vague idea that I'm capable of darning split elbows
buried my head in the sand over the APCM and then discovered that it's been put back a month anyway... let's see if I get anything more done in the next three weeks
waved S1 off back to arcady
finished a notebook and started using my old 3rd year juniors spelling book from 1978/9

Last night S2 told us that he and The Girlfriend got back together about a month ago. Apparently the reasons for the split no longer apply... I contented myself with saying "just so long as neither of you would be too embarrassed to break up a second time Grin". H wasn't quite so forbearing but managed not to actually say It Won't Last At Your Age.

Tomorrow I simply must (ha)
finish the ironing
buy some more sheets
sort out some emails
start reading a book

Morning all :)

Welcome back round :)

Lovely to see you merry I love the spelling lists!

Dancing hope DD is better today

Hello and 🍒👋 to everyone else, sorry all the personals have fallen out of my head.

It’s really chilly today 🥶 BUT... I am meeting a friend!!! I am excited :o we didn’t get to see each other often pre covid and we never run out of things to chat about so I’m not worried. We would normally meet for breakfast but there aren’t many places open in the morning with outdoor space locally so we are just going to meet in town and wander around/sit on a bench with a hot drink etc. Yay!!!
