Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

Bra shopping wise - I braved looking whilst i was in Asda. Really pleased I did. Not only do they fit but £15 for 3 when I am a notoriously awkward size to find normally. And I was totally overwhelmed by choice. It was actually a delight and took all of 5mins. as apposed to the last time i tried took over an hour, tried on a crap ton and nothing fit so I gave up

Out of the house errands took far longer than i intended. But i am happy and sorted lots of things that were on that kinda list later in the week.

Will be back with a longer list

HillsBesideTheSea · 25/04/2021 21:14

ta da
Write shopping list for later in week
find ingredients for salve making
set washing machine to run first load
set dw running
hunt out equipment for making salve.
prep stuff for work tomo
run shopping errands - was actually pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was
make salve
wash up a load of jars and bottles that the people were under pain of death if they touch broke Ready for jam making later this week.
run the dw
wash up some pots - not all just some, complicated allergy decontamination warning Hmm
shirt load of washing through the machine
trouser and dark wash into the washing machine
set up my anti spider in the bed protection (peppermint EO on a cotton make up pad)
sort out where the outdoor thermometer is going on the wall
water the plants outside
Make a list of things to pick up tomorrow for a project
boil beans ready for running in the slow cooker tomorrow
wash up slow cooker as that apparently got forgotten Envy

Again not as much done as i would like BUT i am really pleased that the errands accomplished so much despite eating up so much time!

Still loads to do tomorrow though. But lets be honest that is just life.

HillsBesideTheSea · 25/04/2021 21:17

Zoo i came to a complete standstill in the shop. It confused me entirely. I got 2 sizes because i was not sure which one to go for. 1 fits, one will be shrunk into but can be worn around the house ok. 6 bras for the cost of 1 if i had to go to the specialise shops. really rather chuffed tbh. Especially the bit where it means I can ignore this type of shopping for a while now

HillsBesideTheSea · 25/04/2021 21:18

Also go for it, the shed could do with cleaning. Perhaps leave her some supplies if she should so chose?

Redsquirrel5 · 25/04/2021 22:40

Wow another great list Hills what type of jam are you going to make?

The Zoo great list again. I thought about those tulips today when a front garden had a row after the daffodils. Photos should have been taken🤦🏼‍♀️ I also thought about crumpets and remembered when I was in the Co op so I have some for tomorrow. Thank you.

Up I think it might have been you that put me onto the bargain bulk buys at amazon.

Ta da
Bed made
Reorganised some stuff in boudoir.
I have lost the four books I bought. No idea where I have put them.
Found my phone yesterday, found my purse today now lost the books and finished the one I was reading and want to get cracking on the next one.
Painted the door again. Some of it is now finished. It looks lovely so I am looking forward to taking off the tape and cleaning the glass and tiles on the step. I have done four coats over the last few days. Two of undercoat and two of gloss. Just have a little to do on edges joiner took off.
Planning to buy light shades. If DD was here I could use hers/ get her to make me some. I need to go over and see what she left in the attic bedroom. Otherwise narrowed choice to Voyage, Morris Willow (blue) and Strawberry Thief (red)
Lunch - Tiger bread sliced( Co op) DF cheese, salami, tomato, cucumber and lettuce.
Sorted through a few things in Summerhouse and read through a couple of magazines( for my 1 hour) so I could remove recipes etc. Then decluttering the rest. Have found and organised the rest so I can read the serial. I like to save it and read all at once.Plan to do a bit more in their and repaint the doors.
Tea was a M & S Chinese Meal Deal.
I went to church and caught up a little afterwards.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋to everyone. I came to bed early.

Call the Midwife was sad wasn’t it?

EventuallyDistracted · 25/04/2021 22:56

Sorry for being AWOL, it has been a busy weekend. I have done remarkably well not to LMS this evening as DS has lost one half of his twin block braces, probably forever (dumped them on the car seat before jumping out and I guess dropping one in the car park at football training). Too late to go back by the time we realised and had spent half an hour ransacking the car . Might go back tomorrow but only if I can speak to someone to confirm the car park gates will be unlocked before driving over.

In better news, had a lovely DC-free meetup with friends yesterday, got lots of jobs done in the garden and 5xLOL all dry on the line.

OP posts:
halfhope · 25/04/2021 23:39

ED - that qualifies for LMS. I'd be thinking of borstal....

Stilllivinginazoo · 26/04/2021 06:12

ed deffo qualifies LMS.
Lots to do today
Lil zoo back full time school
Dd2 in 3+4 so lots school runs as have X fields to get there and as not walking tog mum escort it is then
Best get going I hear furry overlords starring to complain about lack of service!

EventuallyDistracted · 26/04/2021 07:00

Morning all, I have got furry overlords jumping on and off the bed too so can't talk for long. I am pissed off about the braces but not half as pissed off as DS who is really upset with himself, he tries so hard to be organised with his stuff and then something like this happens, he had the brace box in the car but we were chatting and tying his hair back and he didn't put them in. Usually if he forgets the box he puts them in the cupholder. We have agreed that if we have to buy a replacement it's coming out of his PIP money. I hate seeing him so angry with himself.

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/04/2021 07:18

why is this too true?

Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......
SingToTheSky · 26/04/2021 07:30

Hills :o

yestada continued
🐛towels in dryer
🦋got DD1 to start her laundry
🐛scrubbed and rinsed fruit and veg trolley
🦋gathered dirty laundry
🐛family fun - made paper airplanes then walked to the park to fly them
🦋walked on to town - browsed a couple more charity shops, bought bath mat etc
🐛antibac sprayed and wiped fruit and veg trolley
🦋hot bath instead of shower because legs not happy with me doing stuff
🐛future friend - got Cagletini’s clothes ready for nursery
🦋bedtime routine with Cagletini - she loves the new whale mat!

Hips still not happy this morning. Gah.

Must get up and say goodbye to DD1, she’s also going straight from the local (to school) shops to dance tonight rather than coming home, so I’ll get her to set a recurring alarm. Then back up to wake Cagletini. I could’ve had a shower by now but I’m so tired 😳

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/04/2021 08:20

I know that this morning Sing I have been awake since before 6am, I am only just getting up.

I have made a start on some stuff that needed doing. Cursory start tbh, but a start none the less.
Today is going to be hard as i need to pick up the pieces from Friday - which includes loads of to do with deadlines that couldn't be attended to Friday because of everything else.

ta da
load of washing
put slow cooker on
throw clothes at teen
eat breakfast
Admire the frost on the cars and rethink coffee in the garden first thing.

Right need to get going and out the door early, which means chivying ds up and out. Hmm

Dancingtomusic · 26/04/2021 08:32

👋
sing- lovely that your dd loves the whale bath mat!
Zoo- the tulip picking sounds amazing.
hills- yes regarding your pic! I hate spiders! I need to buy peppermint oil. Did you get 6 bras for £30? Was that from Asda?
Ed- sorry to hear your ds couldnt find his braces. Its frustrating!
Red- hope you had a lovely time at church. Pls post a pic of the finished door!
foxes- great you finished your work yesterday. I hope you dont have to work today? Indoor picnic sounds lovely. I net your grass looks lovely!
Ships- hope you have had a lovely time in your canal boat with the nice weather.
ice- how is your dd lip now?
half- has you lip healed ok?
Up- i love it you get to the beach before all the tourists turn up! I keep telling Dh lets leave for the beach really really early them come home at lunchtime. Nope. He wont listen.
Waders- How are you? this week I am going to try one of your recipes.
Mc- how was the nursery visit?

I am home with dd. I feel achey and ill. We did go to the park yesterday i loved seeing all the trees and water. Dd was so exhusted from being pushed on the swings, she sat silently in her pushchair on the way home. I want to crawl back into bed. I hurt all over.

🍒👋 to everyone, double, Sc, messy, merry, tidy, anyone I have missed and everyone reading.

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/04/2021 08:33

Yes I did Dancing and yes it was Asda. 3 pack underwired t-shirt bra £15

SingToTheSky · 26/04/2021 08:37

Oh ED I really hope the braces can be found! Maybe whoever is in charge of the gates could have a look for you if they’re locked? I think taking the cost out of PIP money is the right choice. It’s so hard seeing them blame themselves isn’t it. I remember DS saying “mum sometimes I think I’m stupid” after an incident like that :( he’s so NOT stupid, but the issues that come with autism and ADHD certainly make me feel stupid at times too.

Hills ugh hate that “pick up the pieces” feeling! Hope today is ok.

Wow zoo did I understand it right that lilzoo is back to school FT today? Hope it goes well for her.

Right, DS is on Ringfit and I should have breakfast so I can have painkillers.

SingToTheSky · 26/04/2021 08:37

Hope you and DD feel better soon dancing

Mc3209 · 26/04/2021 09:04

Looks like everyone have been at Zoo 's tic tacs. Impressive lists.
I hope all those recovering from ailments and all the kiddies recovering are feeling better 💐
Dancing nursery was fab, but I was feeling sad at having to go back to work and leave my baby there. I just don't wanna. Though I know it will be good for him to make friends and get exposure to other people.

Yes Ta Das:
💥Aquariums sorted. Filter broke in one of them, replacement arriving today. Hopefully not too much damage done.
💥Watered outside plants. And it's raining today. Typical.
💥Blitzed the bathroom
💥LOL x2
💥Hoovered the house
💥DW turnaround

I feel so irritable lately, poor DH can do nothing right 😬 I am trying not to show it. Last time I felt this way was when I was pregnant, which I am not now!
Right, time to get cracking.

Stilllivinginazoo · 26/04/2021 09:21

Hills 😂 love it. So true!
Sing so glad she likes the whale. It might be a good idea to buy another 🐋 Mat.
Dancing everyone was very smiley with the weather. Caught up briefly with a woman I have known for years, she has a lovely sense of humour.
ED so annoying for both of you. I hope you find it. A prayer to St. Anthony for you.
Ships Have you had lovely weather? It must be wonderful on the water.
DH has brought me a mug of tea as I was about to get up so I am delaying the getting up. I have chocolate croissants from the Co op to eat for breakfast. Mmm naughty but nice. Leaves some in naughty corner.

I ache this morning. Think I am overdoing the gardening but probably last day today as forecast rain tomorrow. Going to decide what to keep and what to recycle re pots. I have sorted half already. Need to buy three more pots for tomatoes when I get the greenhouse up. More compost too. I will leave the planning until tomorrow. Tidy Summerhouse tomorrow too. I made a start on Saturday. I quite like being there in the rain especially in spring and summer.
Eurgh home bleugh today. I didn’t get boudoir finished because I was in the garden so much so need to dust and still have some clutter to find homes for.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋 to all and I hope to pop back and see how you are getting on. Ok it has to be power of3 for me to get started.

  1. Dust tops of two chest of drawers and all the stuff on them.
  2. vacuum sitting room and remove basket.
  3. Take down Easter tree and dust window sill and table.

What is you Pof3?

Redsquirrel5 · 26/04/2021 09:42

I will phone up about the car park at lunchtime - he plays at a rugby club so not sure what the opening hours are during weekdays but it might be open for training this evening, there is a clubhouse with a phone number. I can remember exactly where we parked as it was the end of a row, it is on gravel so it is possible they are there and not spotted (can't imagine anyone would pick them up, yuck) but yes, I am holding out hope that a kind person will answer the phone and go and check for me. Then again they might have been run over or trodden on.
