Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

StillUpholding · 28/02/2021 08:33

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Double- oh no! Hope your Dh gets his test results back soon!

StillUpholding · 24/03/2021 07:42

Fingers crossed for quick result Double! DD’s was back within less than 24 hours but that was via the trust I work in so not sure if that’s quicker.

Dancing I’m so glad you got to speak to a doctor and things are getting sorted.

Waders I also used to have a fantastic filing system, however I found the actual filing part didnt routinely happen and it just became a stick to best myself with - ‘sort paperwork’ was forever on my to do list. So now it all gets chucked in the file and then every now and then I’ll go through it and tidy it a bit, but it’s no longer something hanging over me to feel guilty about. I admire anyone who can stick to it! I bet it’s a thing of beauty.

Workaway sounds fab Red! Can you go for as long as you choose? Well done on more RoD progress.

Grin at boob mountain Sing.

Glad you got the blood results back Zoo.

Welcome aboard Ships. I also love the username. I imagine you have to be quite ruthless with clutter on a houseboat!

Hazel that’s amazing having so many viewings. Hope all goes smoothly for you.

Waves to Hills, Hope, ED, Tidy, Merry, That and Foxes (hope you’re ok, haven’t ‘seen’ you in a while).

I’m not seeing much productivity happening chez Up today. My coccyx starting niggling at work yesterday (I’m sure due to bad posture, I’ve been catching myself slouching badly lots). Thought a good nights sleep would sort it but I’ve woken up in agony with it. I’ve taken ibuprofen and will attempt some gentle yoga later I think. Also a walk but I’ve warned DD there’ll be no pushing on swings or lifting her onto the monkey bars at the park! We also need to do our painted eggs for nursery. Send help...

Thankfully I can ignore today’s mission of clearing out the floor of the wardrobe and decluttering shoes. Despite what FlyLady suggests one can never have too many pairs!

I've just woken up...bad night with dd2....
Ships welcome

SingToTheSky · 24/03/2021 08:30

We do ok with shoes really. I think we have a box somewhere with some that we put away at the start of lockdown one. I live in 3 pairs of trainers - all exactly the same brand/model but different colours 😳 I find so many shoes uncomfortable and before this I tended to live in one “safe” pair until they were beyond tatty. But then I read it’s better to alternate rather than wearing the same pair every day. I also have a pair of boring but functional and incredibly comfy boots that I bought for work - necessary as I was on my feet much of the day! Those are tucked away now though.

Having said all that I do the same thing with trousers - found one pair of jeggings that fit me so got a few in different colours (and have since done the same again a size down yay) guess it’s my Mum Uniform 😂

Oh GOD I’ll have to start thinking of interview clothes if I’m going to be looking for work 😱😱😱

Had a relative lie in till just gone 7 today and Cagletini had actually slept through without waking up to take her nappy off so that’s something. Must shower and get ready for training in an hour. And try to sort my hair, last week I washed it before training and it seemed to get frizzier by the minute on screen! So I washed it yesterday instead.

Dancingtomusic · 24/03/2021 10:13

up- hope your back pain gets better lovely, as it horrible having that pain all the time. Hope you have fun painting eggs.
Yay i have bag of Dh shoes to be donated. (Not any of mine...)

Sing- i hv a mum uniform! I love it. Love my comfy shoes. No heels for me

Dancingtomusic · 24/03/2021 10:17

Could anyone suggest a moisturing handwash and moisturing sanitiser please?
Doc has suggested i send it in to use at school.
Dd who is aged 4, has bad eczema on the backs of her hands. We are using hydrocortisone cream on them but she says its burning her. 🤦‍♀️ so dont know what to do.

Mc3209 · 24/03/2021 10:33

Dancing I would suggest using Dermol 500 instead of hand soap/sanitiser. It's great for eczema/dermatitis and cleans well.

Mc3209 · 24/03/2021 10:38

You can buy it yourself, but it can also be prescribed by your GP.

Happy birthday to your ds waders, lovely cake!!

I completely fell off the thread, have no idea what's going on so I'm just going to cheerfully wave and offer Brews around

Doublechins · 24/03/2021 10:53

Happy birthday to your DS Waders. Love the cake and 🤣 at balloons in shower.

So far
Everyone up fed and dressed
DH went for covid test
Rang school to tell them older two wouldn't be in and DS3 potentially not back tomorrow
Quick tidy and swept floors
S&S
LOL & ironed last of yesterday's stuff
Sat through DS3 online lesson

They now have Xbox on and I'm sick of the sight of it already 🙄

Dancingtomusic · 24/03/2021 11:31

waders- happy birthday to your Ds!
Love the ballons in the shower- so funny! Love the cake too!

Redsquirrel5 · 24/03/2021 11:59

Waders Happy Birthday to DS2. Cake looks 😋 balloons in the shower is funny. I found my 60 balloon in Rof D I had never had one of those balloons until then I should throw it out but it brought back lots of memories so for time being it is up on the shelves like a decoration. It is an art room after all! So it is an Art Instillation for now🤣

Foxes good to see you back. Agree sometimes it is easier to jump back in than catch up. We are a chatty lot some days.

Double hope it comes back negative how annoying.

Dancing I would try vegan type natural products. Have you tried Calendular cream?
I have a patch on my arm really annoying. I rarely get it, this is fourth time in my life. I realised last time it is stress related. GP has now agreed.

All the talk about filing made me do mine...yuk it was full of dust bunnies. So I spent an hour on it yesterday and discovered most of it needed to go on the fire. Put filed Mother’s Day cards and poem from about thirty years ago into basket. I have a basket so every time I find cards they go in the basket. I am going to have to go through it soon but it meant I wasn’t wasting time trying to decide and find place for them. That meant I just got on with Rof D. See below!

Can’t face Rof D today so going to do boudoir in a minute. Going to make bed fully and then sort out what needs to go back in Rof D at least if I sort through that I am one step closer. I have a sore rib and neck today so must have done it trying to heave a large box to where it didn’t want to fit then gave up.

Right need to crack on as haven’t done much today.

Power of three

Make bed ( airing) and put everything back on.
Vacuum stairs( I did hall and part of Rof D yesterday)
Find curtain and look for curtain hooks, put up to cover all now organised boxes in cupboard- RofD.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋to all.

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/03/2021 12:15

dancing my contact dermititis/eczema seems get on ok with white moisturising carex or the gold one(ultra moisture I think?)I've found trial and error as some my daughter gets on ok with(eczema) flares me up dreadfully.i deffo flare with aloe Vera and avoid at all costs
Waders happy birthday to D's
Foxes glad you still around.hows the kitchen going?!
Sing are you me?I tend find something comfy then buy multiples(in same colour if choice is limited).comfort over fashion wins with me every timeBlush

Tada
Cleaned living room windows
Tidy around cat tree/reattach toys pulled off and "killed"🤣
11/2 hrs sorts forms for camhs ED clinic tom with lil zoo.that was mind numbing and a quick check of her furtive filled forms once she drifted back upstairs she's much more unhappy/unwell than I thought.she won't talk feelings and is very private/hates hugs etc so is hard to reach.i really feel crappy and that I've let her down

SingToTheSky · 24/03/2021 12:37

Training session 2 done. I. Am. Shattered. I get quite tense talking in front of people (8 others) and there was a lot of that! Will take me a while to come down from that.

Also found out when we share our own journeys we are able to have up to half an hour 😱 to talk about ourselves and our kids’ diagnoses etc. Holy crap. The most talking in front of people I’ve done has been maybe a 10min presentation 😬 heeeeelp!!!

foxessocks · 24/03/2021 13:14

Sorry for going AWOL. I'm enjoying my day off today! Bit of housework but also watched what I want on tv for a bit Smile

It's going okay thanks zoo , looking more like a room now, actual kitchen will be delivered in a few weeks so still wiring and plumbing at the moment. Then I predict it will get even more chaotic for a while Grin

foxessocks · 24/03/2021 13:15

Well done on the training sing Smile

HillsBesideTheSea · 24/03/2021 13:17

I am glad to hear the kitchen is progress foxes

It will be ok, you will be able to get passionate about the subject Sing and that will help make the time fly...
(and yes i agree with appeasing the camhs gods)

SingToTheSky · 24/03/2021 13:30

Thanks :) we are talking about it (“the journey”) in a more generic sense next week so hopefully I’ll have more of an idea how to structure it all. Not sure if it includes being asked questions etc. I got nervous enough talking for a minute or so earlier so I might just have to go to bed for the rest of the day after this 😂

foxessocks · 24/03/2021 13:37

I'd be nervous too sing but think of how proud and good you will feel after (and also tired I know but you can reward yourself with something relaxing after!)

I have a headache which is getting worse and dh took the ibuprofen to work and didn't bring it back, humph, I took Calpol earlier out of desperation but it didn't do anything Sad I'd go to the shop but I can't be bothered, already been once today before I had the headache. At least I did get pizzas for dinner so that's nice and easy!

HazelNuttyElf · 24/03/2021 17:00

Happy birthday to your DS waders

SingToTheSky · 24/03/2021 17:01

Aw thanks foxes :) I shall ensure there is cake and a Netflix comedy lined up :o

Just had the phone call from the universal credit people. She was totally lovely, impressed with the stuff I’ve been doing to try and reach my longer term goals, and is very understanding of the worry about relapses etc. Agreed when I said stuff like retail is out of the question. No rush either.

So as of now I’m officially looking for work. Eeeek.

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/03/2021 17:43

sing it's hard to say it without sounding crass, but I've known you quite a long time now and you gave come on in leaps and bounds in do many ways.im so proud of you lovely❤️(ment sincerely, apologies if it sounds odd)

SingToTheSky · 24/03/2021 17:55

Aww zoo thank you 🙈🥰 I am at a point now where I can say yeah you’re right 😁✊

I don’t even need to look/apply for anything myself before she next calls but she’s going to look for admin stuff mainly which would be good. She’s seen a lot that are now home based due to covid so that could be useful. No more than 16h/w.
