Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

StillUpholding · 28/02/2021 08:33

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

I made 12 they were a little 'flat' I think the recipe claims it makes 10 irrc. I guess it depends if you require dome topped muffins or not.

Also I want to be 2nd in line. I used to have a paperwork filing system like that but it went to pot when life fell apart chronic illness hit which is daft because it was the easiest system going if i had maintained it.

Dancingtomusic · 23/03/2021 09:44

Yay i got through, a doctor is going to call me back for my dd and me. Phew.

SingToTheSky · 23/03/2021 09:55

Well done dancing!

Just remembered it’s a year since lockdown 1 started. How are we all feeling?

Redsquirrel5 · 23/03/2021 11:15

How are we feeling? Lazy!

Sing 🤣 at boob mountain.

Hills knocked mine down so feeding time at the zoo could be in the kitchen. Mmmm muffins might have to go make those. I find they don’t keep well Hills, not like cake or brownies.

Filing hhmmm I leave a lot of that to DH as he quite likes it. I have one with passport etc in and sometimes file bank statement then don’t look ago and throw out in next five years.i had my own filing cabinet at school and was reasonably organised with it. Have had to burn most of it.
Zoo great news about Doctors and getting bloods so quick. My review was in February( prescription) I haven’t been called yet.

Hazel great news makes all your effort worthwhile.

Waders I had something for you but now forgotten.

So I got through some more sorting but then DH wanted to go do a couple of things. Annoyingly I was ok with stuff but did need to get seeds from friend so went there. She wanted us to go in but I just can’t. We are not supposed to be in houses why can’t people around me understand that. Sat in garden which shouldn’t really be doing but compromise. DH did some hedge cutting back for her.
DH ordered some bark it arrived this morning😳he is now moving it.

I have been looking at Workaway which is what DD and DP have been doing. Ohhh I got quite excited and stayed awake way too long reading them. I think I have a future. I am going to do some volunteering when this horrible Covid buggers off. There is an opportunity in Edinburgh so May start with that as it is on going Project with young homeless. Too old for buddy but other old people can do shorter stints in kitchen etc. My favourite niece lives in Edinburgh so could see her on day off or evening or come home as only 1 1/2 hrs -2 hrs on train.
Lots of help with horses in Romania, Switzerland, Ireland, NZ etc. Some are sanctuaries so no riding but all other stuff😄if I am still fit enough by time I can do it. DH would hate it so he can stay home and look after chickens. Probably ‘pie in the sky’ but a thought to buck me up as been a bit bleugh the last few weeks.
Exciting day out tomorrow- going for jab to town DS2 used to live/ work when he first left home. Go in afternoon as app. About 6:30pm must check. Evening anyway.

Nothing done in boudoir as too messy!

Dancingtomusic · 23/03/2021 11:52

Red- workaway sounds like lovely ideas to volunteer.
I called the doc and discussed as much as I could. Xray booked for dd foot. Hydrocort cream for backs of her scaly hands and to buy mosturising handwash and cream to use at school.
Dd throat was tonsils, they look like golf balls when swollen. She said some children just get them regularly. Doc prescribed a different antibiotic for me. Hopefully it wont make me as sick as the last ones and referred me (grudgingly) to dermotology for this stupid lump I have had for 3 years. I am sick of it. I want it gone.
Doc asked me to ring another day for the rest of my problems. Its a start. I am glad I got through.
Zoo if you hadnt inspired me I would have never of called. Thanks everyone that encouraged me to call docs.

Dancingtomusic · 23/03/2021 11:56

Sing- One year into lockdown. I feel like I just want my health back to normal. I want to walk to the school and not feel out of breath. To have energy to do normal activities and not be in pain. So my focus is going to be my health...and trying to keep the laundry mountain at bay.

SingToTheSky · 23/03/2021 11:58

Well done dancing you’ve done brilliantly facing the fear! You too zoo 💐

I have no focus today. Decided to have a relaxed day but even watching Netflix feels like hard work! DS has done half a page of maths (he has such a mental block over fractions despite generally being fairly comfortable with maths). Cagletini is watching pink panther.

halfhope · 23/03/2021 14:08

Waves 👋 - sorry I've been absent. Still alive here. All well. Glad dd okay dancing and has meds. Same old same old here: 'The sun shone, having no alternative, on the nothing new' as Samuel Beckett once wrote. We are all waiting for Godot now.

Redsquirrel5 · 23/03/2021 14:45

Dancing great that Zoo has spurred you on and you got a reasonable result. I do think our little corner is lovely at encouraging people and we only have the best in mind of others whereas some other areas “cough, cough” are rather🤬
Thanks about the volunteering there are schools and homes in India and Africa too. The one in India is for pre-school and elderly people. It sounds wonderful and the messages people posted were so lovely. It had changed the lives of many young people never mind those that it was to support. I would like to go to India one day.
My sister2 had a tonsil problem. She was fairly healthy otherwise but always got tonsillitis. Hope you are both feeling better soon. Hope the foot improves too.

Sing glad about the dry pants. Has he tried eating his fractions kinaesthetic learning seems to have been pushed back but I found if it didn’t click that a few lessons of eating them really focussed the boys. Pizza, tart, chocolate, apples etc also there is fridge magnets that show the correspondence with percentages but I would consolidate the fractions first.

Room of doom - I can see more carpet🤣 I haven’t got much more done but I have moved it around. It fits better😃 so now that I have sorted a lot of it I hope to start putting the rest back. When all this is done I plan to start a project quite a bit to do yet. I have tried to sort it by being a little bit Marie Kondo by looking for similar things and having two boxes on the landing for books and stuff to get rid of or charity shop. By the way I am still folding the T-shirt’s and knickers by her method maybe I should ask for the book.

Redsquirrel5 · 23/03/2021 14:46

Waves to Halfhope good to see you🍒👋

Dancingtomusic · 23/03/2021 16:19

shipsandgiggles · 23/03/2021 20:43

Hello would you lot mind if I joined in?. I followed flylady in my last year of uni and then stopped when I moved into a narrow boat with DH and DD. Then DS came along in November and my boat turned to chaos so I’ve got back on the wagon even though I’ve had to change the zones around a bit.

SingToTheSky · 23/03/2021 20:47

Hi ships of course you are welcome! Wow what’s it like living on a boat?

Cagletini had a tantrum this evening and was late to sleep. I’ve still done nothing much at all, other than one of the autism workshops I booked to appease the Almighty CAMHS Gods.

DH is doing the tesco order so I’d best see if I need to add anything for me :o. Now I’ve just got to log in to my DWP account thing online to see if I need to do anything for my phone call tomorrow. Also have my second training session which is exciting!

Dancingtomusic · 23/03/2021 20:55

Hi ships- great name!

halfhope · 23/03/2021 20:58

Chortle 😂 great username ships

SingToTheSky · 23/03/2021 21:04

I just got it 😳😂

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/03/2021 21:13

Zoo I'm impressed that red managed to keep cake and brownies tbh. they tend to get inhaled here too.

I have spent most of the day sat cross legged. I have just discovered that I am too old for that kind of nonsense. I think my hip has seized Hmm

Dancingtomusic · 23/03/2021 21:23

Sing- 'to appease the Almighty CAMHS Gods.'🤣
Zoo- sorry to hear you are very anemic (sp- sorry) and have joint pains. It sounds like your doctor really listened to what you said. Was it routine set of bloods you booked?

My Tadas-
Pick up kids from school.
I did spelling/reading
Bath kids
Tidied hallyway
Put away a billion clothes
Fed them
Tidyed kitchen
Then made bannana cake
Dh gone shopping yay!
Just got kids into bed.
Kitchen actually looks like a kitchen until dh gets back and dumps shopping everywhere- in a manly- there you go- man done shopping!
(Really could do with a pantry.) Scrolling back to look at yours again Hazel.
🍒👋everyone.

shipsandgiggles · 23/03/2021 21:50

Oh thanks guys 😆, I have to admit though I googled ‘funny boat names’ I am in no way creative enough to have come up with my username myself😂.

sing It’s definitely cramped😂 but we love it. We have our own permanent mooring, so it’s sort of just a house on water but we will travel every now and then when DH is off work. We also have a Campervan if we want to go somewhere quicker. Our family think we’re crazy hippy’s!. I’m happy to answer any questions about it I know it’s quite interesting. But I leave the mechanical parts up to DH, I can just about keep us in a straight line😅

Doublechins · 23/03/2021 21:57

Welcome ships my dad lived on a boat for a few years before he died. It was a cruiser rather than a narrow Boat but we used to love going to visit him.

DH got his new Xbox today so he's not been much help 🙄

Ta-da's for today
🌸Everyone up fed & dressed
🌸Quick tidy round & sweep floors
🌸Went to collect dryer from my DGM as mine broke and she never uses hers. This meant I had to move the boxes that I agreed to store for my DM so they've finally made it to the loft
🌸3 or maybe 4 LOL & ironing. Not ironed the last lot I've left that sitting in the dryer for tomorrow
🌸 school work with DS3

Think that's about it. I've finally persuaded DH to turn the bloody Xbox off so I'm going to attempt to watch line of duty again after I fell asleep less than 5 mins in last night 🙈

🍒 👋 everyone

Redsquirrel5 · 23/03/2021 23:51

Welcome ships. My DD has a DP and his aunty lives on a house boat. I am hoping to go and visit her. I have met her a few times she isn’t a random aunt I haven’t met. I always wanted to take the boys on a canal boat holiday but they were too expensive. They would have loved it. My dad took me down the Caledonian Canal. He had a friend that lived in a house in the middle. The water went either side of the house it was amazing and full of stuff I loved going there. My dad spent most of his life on boats from dingys to the Cutty Sark which he sailed on. My sister in Scotland is the best sailor though. She used to crew for yacht racing when she was 14.
It must be hard to keep clean and tidy with little ones. How old are your children?

Hills I made Mary Berry’s brownie tray bake last Thursday and there is still some left. I confess to eating three pieces one day. I had a piece with coffee in the morning then I ate my piece and DHs for afternoon tea because he went walking and left me at home! We try to keep to one piece of cake a day. We had Orange and Polenta last week.

Love it zoo inhaled cake. I have actually inhaled biscuits. Worked near a biscuit factory. It was killing if you hadn’t had breakfast.

So I have done 2x LOL and folded yesterday’s LOL
I have done hours in the ROf D and feel like I am making head way. I now need to sort and find homes for the stuff in here and in the hall.

Changed sheets.

HazelNuttyElf · 24/03/2021 03:30

Welcome ships living on a boat sounds quite interesting, do you ever get sea sick/ have lots of movement on there, or is it moored (is that the right word) so it's stationary?

I had my day off work today and I feel like I need another. Lots of viewings, including one that wanted to view the house right NOW! I was a couple of minutes away, thought I had plenty of time to grab the dog. NOPE! They were in my back garden waiting for me to grab the dog 🤦‍♀️ apparently they were at the house when they asked our realtor.
DS is so done with leaving the house for viewings, and told me he just wants to be at home for 3 hours at a time! We are expecting to have at least 3-4 more offers tomorrow and will look at them as they come in. So far we have only got one to look at. 1 viewing scheduled for tomorrow, possibly a 2nd. We had 7 buyers look at it today.

We have had snow, just enough to make it a little muddy outside, and people haven't been taking their shoes off when coming in so I've been having to clean the floors multiple times today, I've discovered that nothing pisses me off more 🤬

I'm back at work tomorrow, and it'll be hard for me to concentrate. We also discovered the sellers of the house we've offered on hadn't got the inspection request (well, what we have requested fixed on the inspection) it was sent Sunday and they got to look at it tonight. They have 3 business days to get back to us, which would have been tomorrow, but now it's Friday, but we still have to make a decision on our offers tomorrow! It's so stressful!!

Anyway, I'm tired so going to take a shower soon and get to bed, I've done lots of driving around today to get out of the house, it was too cold to go out for a walk.

🍒👋 to everyone

Doublechins · 24/03/2021 05:37

DH woke me coughing so I'm up already. This is even more annoying these days as it means we're now all stuck in the house & DC off school until he gets a test and gets results back 😩

I've booked him a test for 8am & 🤞 he gets results quickly as I have a shift on Friday and Saturday so I have a hotel booked which I won't be able to claim the money back for. Also DS3 is due back to school tomorrow and DH is annual leave but due back Friday. I'm so fed up of all of this now.
