Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

MC owner of school uniform has gone to bed, I'd rather he was able to get up tomo. Hopefully won't be too much longer before i can throw in the dryer. Hoping pain killer kick in and laundry washing phase fall into sync.

Tomo is going to be another hit the ground running. But no one died today, and people were mostly fed, and the essential things (lateral flow and household census) achieved. So that is a good day even if it feels like I have LMS more times than is healthy today.

Sleep is a good thing. I hope you all have a good restful sleep and ready to do all the things that is needed for the new week

SingToTheSky · 22/03/2021 00:28

Agreed! I have now done all the main questions. Tipped over into overtired (not in the stroppy toddler sense!) but pushed through that last bit. Tomorrow (today) will have to be a lazy one, other than completing the last bits and possibly ringing DWP to ask for a few extra days due to isolating

SingToTheSky · 22/03/2021 00:28

I am pleased though, it’s my biggest ta da of the week!

HazelNuttyElf · 22/03/2021 05:30

Just stopping by to drop my ta das. The house is on the market! Agents can see it online now, but prospective buyers won't for a couple of hours. Our realtor will pick up the key tomorrow from me at work and take a picture outside, then it's a matter of waiting for buyers.

Ta Das:
🍋 Baked keto lemon loaf. DD wanted to try it without blueberries and it turned out perfect
🍋 Helped move the heavy steel cone we use for a firepit and replaced it with a cheaper model to stay with the house
🍋 Tried out the new bedding on the bed, well the DC did it, it looks awesome so I'm happy. Pic attached
🍋 Cleaned all the windows, inside and out, vacuumed the tracks (they slide) and the screen (had to remove all blinds to do that as they open inside to clean easily)
🍋 Helped DH repair 2 blinds for the last time
🍋 Started to vacuum the house, then had DS take over
🍋 DD packed several more boxes and neatened the pantry up even more (pic attached)
🍋 DS picked up poop, raked leaves, cleaned the bathroom
🍋 We all took a load to the storage unit
🍋 DH cleaned up the garage even more
🍋 We finished the night playing a meme game, which was fun, celebrating our hard work throughout the house today.

I'm back at work tomorrow, it's going to be hard to wake up!

Dancingtomusic · 22/03/2021 07:50

Omg census....(runs away as had forgotton again...)
Kids hv been on and off ill over weekend...lack of sleep
Hope everyone is ok...back later!

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/03/2021 08:02

I have got someone peeling them for me but I was washing and chopping and turning into mash for batch cooked cottage pies and for thickening chicken pies etc. I have blue food grade gloves but never think to use them, but it is no longer optional. Thank you for the vote of confidence.

This morning I am very tired and would happily be asleep but I need to go put a rocket up the teen's arse so he gets to school. I encountered him at 1am this morning. There were the odd word, but mostly it was fuck off and go fucking sleep. After I had thrown food at him. dang hollow legs

I have a lot to do today but am really tempted to try to just take a long nap when I have ensure teen is out the door. But then I won't sleep early tonight and the clock change at the weekend is going to feel so much worse.

Oh yes, for those with little people - clock change this coming weekend if you want to do the shift by 10mins thing per day to get them to reschedule more easily.

SingToTheSky · 22/03/2021 08:11

Morning. Had an epic lie in - 7.54 :o DD1 is in a mega grump as we don’t know if the negative LFT this morning means she’s allowed in or not since Cagletini’s result hasn’t arrived yet. Being very black and white about things she is stressing over the thought of just going in late if we find out she’s allowed (reception aren’t picking up).

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/03/2021 08:14

Apparently I don't need to put a rocket up teen's ass. I was just thinking I should move, speak to teen and find out why my sense of smell was picking up something rather unpleasant. Turns out it was the teen's shower gel I could smell Hmm but he is apparently, up dressed and my child in the morning grumpy so go away HmmGrin

SingToTheSky · 22/03/2021 08:15

Thanks hills I had forgotten about the clock change! I usually delay the bath until she is definitely going to sleep after so this is a good kick to bring it back a bit. Last night she fell asleep while DH was combing her hair 😂

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/03/2021 08:16

My understanding is that you all have to isolate until cagaltini's result comes back negative or the 10 day/2 week/whatever the heck it is now isolation is over. So I would assume not in school.

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/03/2021 08:17

Sing sorry about the misspelling.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 22/03/2021 08:17

As cagletini has symptoms then she shouldn't be allowed in i don't think sing

Just threw up my breakfast Sad always a good start to the day 🙄

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/03/2021 08:26

Sad hope it gets easier for you that

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/03/2021 08:41

Oh dear that not a good start to the day..
Hills at least there wasn't pistols at dawn to get teen up.and out of your hair
Sing hope results are in very soon!

I have given self almighty kick up bum,bit bullet and rang doctors.for first time in very very long time nice receptionistand ok am booked for a callback some time this morning.observation of the day burning soles when lying still is most unpleasant.i will be glad when I do not have to feel every part of my skeleton from the neck down

I have what looks like another finger lump in progress, possibly two

I am officially getting old and ready for the dustbin

As you were people

SingToTheSky · 22/03/2021 09:15

Thanks all, that’s what we thought too - DD1 just couldn’t understand it because in her eyes she’d had a negative test result, so we were clearly evil, she can’t get her head round the logic of the LFTs not being that accurate etc (can’t say I blame her for that bit).

However at exactly 8.30 the official NHS test result text arrived. Negative 😅🙏🙌 so off she went. DH phoned again to let them know she’d be late and I’ve forwarded her screen shots of the text in case anyone asks. The house feels calmer already 🤭

Sorry you were sick that :(

SingToTheSky · 22/03/2021 09:18

Zoo well done for ringing the doctors!

We aren’t sending Cagletini today - only a 3 hour session and with the walk etc not worth going late. Will ring them though. Also very glad DH hadn’t got through to the doctors yet as he was going to have to cancel his vaccine for this afternoon!

Redsquirrel5 · 22/03/2021 09:18

Morning all.
Sorry some are having difficulties already. I hope the day improves for you.
The boudoir well it is just a joke. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

We have moved on slightly as in we bought three samples of paint. Top of list is to phone painter. Did some other ones at the weekend. PotteR✅and the guy that was asked to make coal bunker and wood shed a year ago this month. Three months ago he was nearly ready to deliver it! He is on border so not sure whether in Scotland or England for Covid rules so may be a delivery problem but I think we have been so patient. I want to scream at all the people that promise things they don’t fulfil as they add so much stress. So silent scream while it still goes on.
DH noted he could see carpet in RofD. I reminded him that several boxes in my room and hall upstairs. The sorting is slow but getting achieved slowly very slowly. Some days I can’t face it, some days I am doing well then get interrupted. The loft is getting insulated soon. I am hoping at least one box can go up into the loft. Jigsaws but I don’t want it to go up without a lid on it. I could put it in DS3 loft/bedroom as less likely to spoil there and accessible when we want to do more Christmas jigsaws. DH has agreed we keep them for now as we can do rest and decide whether to keep or sell as collectible. Rest of jigsaws I am parting with except two. Need to wait until hospice can take them though. Lots of waiting.

Meanwhile I am waiting for tea.
I hope everyone has a reasonable day( best we can hope for I think).

Hazel that pantry looks amazing. Fingers crossed for you. Off to read what everyone was up to when I fell off thread. Tea has appeared😁

SingToTheSky · 22/03/2021 09:23

Oh yes meant to say I have mega pantry envy! Congrats on the house being on the market, so exciting! 😍

DH is trying to get DS started on his work, I don’t think it’ll be a very productive day. I need to get up, got my lead suit on this morning.

Redsquirrel5 · 22/03/2021 09:24

That sorry to hear that.Pregnancy sickness is awful.

Sing wonderful news you must feel lighter already.

Zoo good start and glad you got nice one.One of ours is so difficult and if you get one of the others everything goes through smoothly.

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/03/2021 09:55

red our surgery absorbed another one and let's just say their reception staff needed A LOT of training regarding telephone manner....I was told on more than one attempt to speak to someone thaty notes showed I have anemia.if joint hurt, take your meds and hung up!
I not good at making effort for myself on any level so I just felt upset I wasn't heard and carried on with it,but I've reached point it's not sustainable, since lock down 1 I've lost capacity to do any formal workouts at all due to breathlessness and joint discomfort.thats not ok for someone who relies on my legs to get me anywhere I need to go and who has 2dc that require 2+ HR walks when highly stressed..

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/03/2021 09:56

I should be cleaning(and I really really need a wee) but phones charging and I can guarantee sec I'm on lav it will be doc calling back so I am destined sit here on my phone faffing...it's for the greater good, right??

SingToTheSky · 22/03/2021 10:32

God knows how long they’ll take to ring back zoo if it’s got enough charge dash to the loo 😂

Just realised we forgot to get the school laptop sorted to return. Oops.

DH is in a zoom meet atm. DS has done some comprehension work so far. He was asking about changing bedtime etc but I’m too wiped to think about evening routines for him and DD1 right now. It has taken so long to finally get Cagletini sorted and by the time she’s asleep we are shattered. Gradually we will catch up on sleep and can hopefully start spending some proper time with the other two (we do spend time with them obv, just that normally it’s flaked out in front of screens!)

MN ate my post.twice
Sing I am pleased to report dry pants🤣
Wader big hugs for you with signing off egg hunt.its a weird thing proudly watch them step out alone but wanting your baby with you alwaysFlowers

Well I got best doc in practise ring back
Raft bloods ordered to see what's going on.expecting aneamia stem big part that.burning feet usually affects older people as nerves fray, unless diabetes..highly likely I've got arthritis given age and lump/stuff joints.we know it's very unlikely my aneamia will be in range so he will get back to me with results of all bloods and a plan
Meanwhile book bloods, pick up iron meds and just take a little and build up in hope tolerate it betterand consider complan or protein bars as my diets not great to prevent too much loss muscle mass

Try booking local hospital as he expected quicker than bloods at surgery- mid April!try surgery- tom.or I maybe able sneak them in today when lil zoo has her check up.either way it's far quicker!dare I hope this is beginning of usual service for docs,or just a brief spurt of return to the standard pre covid?

Need leave in an hour,so best get D's lunch sorted and get washed and dressed(slobbing in dirty joggers and sloppy t)I'm only upgrading to clean joggers and less sloppy t shirt.im not in mood for "proper" clothes that involve zips/buttons etc🤣
