Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

StillUpholding · 28/02/2021 08:33

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Sing I was talking to the man in the garden centre about my hens and was looking for tarpaulin but when he didn’t have any I started to tell him about DD in NZ DH found me and gruffly told me to come on. The thing is I think the man was actually enjoying the conversation.

DH doesn’t talk much at home. We can go nearly all day. In fact since we have been back from chemist he has said” Do you want a baked potato? Cauliflower or cabbage? That’s it in 2 hours!

I really need to add “hooroo” to my daily vocab.

So tired. CBA to do anything since doing bath and stories with Cagletini and then vacuuming the living room.

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/03/2021 20:37

still we do not expect thread leader to be a stellar cleaner for the month.
Sing dd2 has forgotten how to people, and is frankly half scared of them.ds social skills were always ropey and have now become a talk at/over people exercise.deffo needs work.ive always talked hind leg off donkeys,my exciting life probably bores people to tears tho!

Redsquirrel5 · 18/03/2021 01:56

Waders it was the pantry and a store/ broom cupboard that I took the sledge hammer to. Part of me wanted the pantry but as it was it had a Rayburn and a sink unit with about 1/2 metre of worktop. That was it! So we needed more cupboards and somewhere to eat so by knocking it down ( very large stones) it meant we could do both. Then the inglenook which had a horrible beige fireplace to knock out then some very large boulders and concrete.
DH I’m used to him. I go and do something else if he annoys me or go and see BF by the time I walk up there I have got over the worst we start with tea and end up with red wine.

Sorted some wool for tapestry.
Washed up
Cleaned worktops, table and wiped cupboards.
Swept floor.

Dancingtomusic · 18/03/2021 03:15

Red- love hearing about this above...it sounds so exciting you knocked out a wall. I would have loved to have tried. It sounds like a very solid wall!

Sing- You have done lots, esp when we are feeling below par, doing a few things could wipe us out. Hope you get a good sleep and get a good rest.

Zoo- talking hind leg off donkeys...🤣....i thought i was chatty....my day is all about....'and I put the 2nd wash load in....'
I met 2 grandparents on the school run, who are missing chatting so I chatted to them for 45mins. They were easy to talk to and i could see chatting was so smooth for them.
Sometimes i am ok, sometimes I forget how to make small talk too.
🍒👋everyone.

HazelNuttyElf · 18/03/2021 04:25

Oooh Red knocking down a wall sounds fun! In the new house we'll have to put a door in the dining room to go outside, hopefully I can have a go too!

Ta Das:
🍀 Got storage unit
🍀 Bought mulch for front flower bed
🍀 scraped loose paint off patio
🍀 Got patio half way painted
🍀 Painted shed completely
🍀 Swept all paint chips up
🍀 Took decorative lights down from patio, ready to pack
🍀 Got cashier's cheque for escrow
🍀 Finally sat down almost 10pm to enjoy a Caporita with green food colouring in it

DS helped clean up the garden
DD got 2 LOLs done for me and rotated DW as well as packing a few boxes for me
DH and DC took several loads of boxes etc to the storage unit

There's still so much more to do!
Tomorrow I'm going to pick up a smaller desk we're borrowing from ILs, we'll put our huge desk in storage until we move, I have to finish painting the outside, clean up more outside and get more packing done.
I ache so much tonight. And I got paint in my hair somehow (I was wearing a baseball hat)

🍒👋 to everyone. Sorry there's not more personals, I'm running out of energy.

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/03/2021 07:03

hazel reserve power of personals getting ready for the move.we will still be here to chat to after you are in your new home!!❤️

I had a shocking sleep.
Tackling D's boy dungeon today which is at hovel status after dd2 did a temp camp in

SingToTheSky · 18/03/2021 08:31

I’m crap at personals a lot of the time like now, I’m so behind on the thread!

Just put a wash on, as I prepped it last night and helped get Cagletini ready for nursery.

I never did have that day of productive procrastination - I’ve put off EVERYTHING 😬😳

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/03/2021 08:55

The boy dungeon looks like it's been burgled with added hint of fetid teen boy stench...

I opened windowsand decided breakfast first to fortify my loins was necessary.thankfully there were crumpets left
Lovingly vitalited,I'm now bracing with gloves, binbag and necessary cleaning materials to return it to a semi organised habitable status..of course,it's not all his fault.dd2 moving in under his bed displaced a LOT of his belongings and when she left naturally she did not put anything back...
I slept on sofa second night running as needed to not have a teen draped all over me/bed hog etc.ds slept other sofa.id love some time out todaySad

Dancingtomusic · 18/03/2021 09:25

Zoo- oh no, you need a good rest. On sharing with dd2, if you have a large huge spare duvet- roll it up and put up a bed barrier in your double bed.

Dancingtomusic · 18/03/2021 09:30

Dh had his jab yesterday.
He feels rough today.
I thought i would make him a coffee from his fancy coffee machine....

I put the whole beans in the section that was supposed to be for ground coffee 🙈
Omg it made a odd noise. I cant see or get the beans out.
I have sweated in panic so much....going to hide under a blanket in the naughty corner.
🙈omg this coffee machine is his pride and joy.

SingToTheSky · 18/03/2021 09:52

Oh no dancing 😬

Good luck sorting the dungeon zoo

DH is booking his jab now. Found out he was eligible when I booked mine but we decided to stagger them in case of side effects (turned out to be the right choice) but then just forgot what with all the other distractions.

I have so much I should be doing today. It’s getting to the “need a list as my brain can’t hold it all” stage, but the problem is with lists is that I tend to add anything and everything I can think of instead of focusing on the actual priorities.

Redsquirrel5 · 18/03/2021 10:22

Power of three Sing with lists too.

Dancing oh no, that doesn’t sound good. Have you an instruction book/ try internet.

Hazel we’re in awe of how much you are achieving so forget about personals as you are giving us something exciting to think of.

Hope tempers have improved in the Waders household. DH has gone walking.😁

Re wall: official from the council was due in morning but didn’t turn up. Builder friend who we were paying said let’s get started after 1/2 hour wait. Official turn up not pleased. I said but you were late and I can’t afford to wait when I am paying someone( fingers crossed behind back) he had a look and decided it was ok because not load bearing which we knew. It knocked down quicker because he was late and I was annoyed...times money and all that. Yes it was hard as it was stone but I was less than half my age then. Must have been DDs age as DS3 was 18mths. So 29. Goodness that was a loonngg time ago.

Choice of what to do today.

Might start with painting door then Rof D because I can pull a lot out when DH isn’t here to see it iykwim.
Was very late to sleep so just getting moving now. Must stop doing that. I was wide awake at 2:30am bloody recycled teenager.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒🍒👋👋to everyone. We have had a few drop off I hope everyone is ok. Aletha, that etc.🤔

Dancingtomusic · 18/03/2021 10:22

Just walked past the coffee machine and it said empty coffee grounds....
Thank godness!
The beans had expelled into the discarding bin.

😓 phew....not touching the machine again.

Sing- it was a good idea you guys staggered it and your dh is booking his today.

Dancingtomusic · 18/03/2021 10:24

Sorry Red x post from me

Redsquirrel5 · 18/03/2021 10:26

Aaaargh ! Zoo meant to mention you. Do you want a hand hold as you go into the boy dungeon? 💁🏼‍♀️One, two, three jump into the Rooms of Doom!🕴🏻
🤦🏼‍♀️

Redsquirrel5 · 18/03/2021 10:28

Procrastinating Dancing WHEW! Glad it sorted it self out. Instant from now on🤣

SingToTheSky · 18/03/2021 10:37

Right, DH has booked jab for Monday, now I have stuff I need to do:

  • give dh bank details so he can pay therapist
  • digitally sign various forms for volunteer role
  • digitally fill in ILP for my completed course (why I procrastinated over this bit I don’t know!)
  • this evening, make sure school laptop is ok for return tomorrow
  • dig out an old letter/report thing
  • phone assessment charity place to see if I can get the reports in digital form, and how many months are left on the payment (interest free so we spread it out)

There is way more than that. Aaargh

SingToTheSky · 18/03/2021 10:39

Damn red I def should’ve just put three things on my list to start with!

SingToTheSky · 18/03/2021 11:14

ta da so far
✊got Cagletini sorted for nursery
✊wash on
✊reading/Netflix relaxation time!
✊looked out old autism support charity reports, downloaded them again so I will be able to send DS’ to CAMHS
✊phoned assessment charity and asked for email copies of their reports which will be sent today (will send those to CAMHS too) so no need to scan several pages. Also checked the status of our payment - only £50 left and apparently the payment will stop automatically after it’s complete.

Yay! I did stuff!!!

SingToTheSky · 18/03/2021 11:33

Ah crap. Nursery phoned. Cagletini has a fever. DH is collecting her now.

I’m going to sound a bit stupid now but what actually happens? She said something about being able to get lateral flow test kits at home? In fact DD1 should be bringing some home today from school so maybe we can use one? Do we all need to isolate until then? I’m so behind on all the rules. 😬😳

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/03/2021 11:37
