Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

StillUpholding · 28/02/2021 08:33

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Ed I liked the aubergine and it was between those two for me but our kitchen is dark as one small window in front of sink and now the stable door which is half glass our old door was full glass /15panes. So I thought the aubergine might just look black. I am happy with the sage as I can add red and I can have more subtle country colour accessories depending on time of year or mood. Kitchen is about 12’x15’. The paler blue is like a vintage colour they had just come in. I quite like the marine too.
Have to go 🙄

ExponentiallyDepleted · 16/03/2021 12:22

Our kitchen is dark in the morning and bright in the afternoon/evening. The stove will be going in the sunniest spot, so we can go a bit darker. It's a very hard decision!

Sorry to not be posting much, busy at work, then the business with DF, jabs etc. DF is getting better and will hopefully be discharged today or tomorrow.

Redsquirrel5 · 16/03/2021 15:36

ED yeah 😂everyone seems to say that. I made a beautiful piece of beef on the bone on Sunday. Need to perfect my Yorkshire’s. They were lovely and light but need to be bigger so I’m going to scroll back on the Facebook page as someone was discussing it.

I have been out in the garden. The forecast is wet and windy so I took the opportunity to repot some lilies and scabious. Swept the decking on summerhouse as it had dried out a bit more. Ericaceous compost spread around the azaleas and camellia. Had lunch in the summerhouse which was lovely and warm. Hens are loving the good weather. I feel tired now so having half an hour lie down.

SingToTheSky · 16/03/2021 16:29

Another nothing day but feeling slightly more human. Emailed the volunteer coordinator about tomorrow as I was worried about sneezing etc on camera 😳 but she reassured me the trainees are on mute for much of it anyway so that’s a relief. I am not as snotty today anyway so hopefully I’ll last the three hours. I must find a notebook - I actually don’t have any sitting unused 😱

Also tried rescuing a sticker which Cagletini apparently dropped into the piano. 3 year olds eh. 🤬🙄 It is surprisingly dusty under the keys already despite being dusted on top a lot, and I have no clue if it’s even possible to clean underneath 🤔

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/03/2021 16:46

Eeeeek our offer was accepted!!!!
I have taken the rest of the week off work to get the house ready to go on the market. Our realtor wants to list our house on Friday 😱 we should be able to close 22nd of April if everything goes well with our house sale. I'm excited and scared at the same time.
I packed up non essentials from our closet tonight, about 4 boxes, it took me about 45 minutes. I'm getting a storage unit tomorrow and painting the patio as I didn't get that done today. I just have to paint over any peeling/ chipping paint.

ED I'm glad your DF is starting to feel better.
dancing isn't it so nice to have lots of energy? It would be interesting to see if you can figure out what is helping with that.
mc today must have been the day for sheets, I washed ours and DDs today, I'll do DS's tomorrow, and the dogs, can't forget her bedding too.
Sing good much with your zoom call.

Ta Das:
🍷 Washed bedding x4 LOLs (DD has lots of blankets)
🍷 LOLs x2 (clothes)
🍷 Sorted out fridge, emptied quite a few containers of questionable leftovers
🍷 Cleaned bathroom
🍷 Took DD some lunch to school
🍷 Took dog to groomers to have her nails trimmed & anal glands expressed
🍷 Bathed dog at home
🍷 Skyped mum
🍷 Grocery shopping
🍷 Packed up most of our closet (non-clothes)

We went out for dinner for DDs birthday tonight. On our way there is when I got the phone call about the house, so it seemed extra special to us.

🍒👋 to zoo, red, waders, double, hills and everyone else I've missed

Mc3209 · 17/03/2021 05:16

Hope DF continues to improve ED 💐

I am thankfully feeling a bit better this morning, need to shower before the meeting as I am a mess 😳

foxessocks · 17/03/2021 10:45

Great news hazel and happy birthday to your dd as well Smile

Hope all okay ED I have missed loads but glad your df is improving.

Glad you are feeling better sing

My cold is finally starting to go and today I actually went on a long walk after dropping dd at school as it's my day off. Definitely lifted my spirits.

My challenge today is to try and get the last bit of mold from the very corners of the bedroom windows, it's driving me crazy because I don't have anything small enough to get the last tiny bits off , I have become slightly obsessed 😂 I've tried cotton buds with a bit of mold spray on which got most of it off but I need something smaller! I'm going to try scrubbing the whole area again with a toothbrush I think and see if can dislodge it that way.

So that's my rock and roll day planned 😂😂

SingToTheSky · 17/03/2021 12:46

Phew. First training session done. I’m shattered! It was so good though. Relieved that my cold is a bit better and I only had to mute myself to cough a few times 😂

And I was brave and did the scribing for one bit so I had to do the feedback in front of everyone (8 of us today) - scary! But I think I did ok :)

HazelNuttyElf · 17/03/2021 13:20

foxes I was going to suggest a toothbrush, until I read further 😂 good luck in removing it
Sing glad to hear your first session went well
zoo I hope your review went well. I still can't get over how much you do every morning, and to bake a loaf on top of that?! You're superwoman!

I have plenty to do today, I just finished my first cup of coffee. I have to get the storage unit rented first thing and then painting done outside. Hopefully I get that done early enough that I can start putting boxes in the storage unit.
🍒👋 everyone

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/03/2021 14:46

Cocktail stick wrap bit tissue foxes?

StillUpholding · 17/03/2021 15:14

Yaaay you got the house Hazel! I’m very excited for you. Happy birthday to your DD.

Glad DF is feeling better ED.

I have a vague memory of wrapping a cleaning wipe round a hair clip to scrape window mould in our old house Foxes, but I can’t remember if it was successful or not.

I’m sorry to say that your thread leader is currently residing in the naughty corner. I’ve been to work this morning, didn’t sleep well, and am feeling a little meh after having my second vaccine dose. There has been an LOL done and I’ve set off the DW but me and DD are both feeling snoozy and we’ve curled up in the sofa. I’ve done nothing in zone 3 so far this week Blush

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 17/03/2021 16:20

Up there is no point killing yourself over housework. Zone 3 will still be here.. Hope you feel better soon post vaccine. I have my first dose coming up in the next few days, and I am planning on few sofa days around it.
foxes good luck with mould extermination! I would give cotton bud a haircut so it's thinner.
Sing congrats on getting your first session under your belt!

Ta das:
💥All bins emptied and washed
💥DW rotated
💥LOL x1
💥Dropped off 2 plants to my friend. All the cuttings I propagated a while ago took well, and now I am giving away those plants so I don't have too many in my 'custody'

Now baby is napping in a sling and I am settling with my book for the next few mins.

Dancingtomusic · 17/03/2021 17:48

Mc- awww that so lovely Mctiny is snoozing in a sling! Awwww!
Glad your getting a chance to read.

Up- rest dont do much after your jab.

Foxes- the walk sounds lovely! Glad you are feeling abit better after the cold.

Sing- welldone for doing a class, so glad you feel better too after your cold.

Hazel- Yayyyy! You got the house! Congrats.
I was wondering if I have low iron levels and the leafy green stuff helped. Last week I ate healthier. Made sure I didnt miss meals and made sure I took my bp meds on time.
This is the first time in 6 years I am getting a chance to rest, without children in the day. And i an getting more rest/sleep at night. I wonder if my body is trying to restore itself.

Ed- sending you a hug

Zoo- oh you are funny about the review!
I woke up physically ok- i was very suprised. But i had a terrible quick temper and shouted at my dc for any little thing. I felt so bad...as normally i am cuddly and cheery in the morning.
I feel myself crashing abit now. My body is feeling horrible and I want it to stop.

Sorry for long post everyone. Cant think straight now.

Mc3209 · 17/03/2021 18:08

Dancing sounds like you need to put your feet up. I always find it difficult to find motivation to work out at home. I should really be doing my physio exercises, but I've been neglecting them for over a week now. My pelvis is not thanking me for it.

Over this pandemic, I completely forgot how to talk to people in real life! A coworker dropped off a toy for the baby that her child has outgrown, and goodness me, I was so clumsy in conversation making 😬 I hope these skills will come back.

foxessocks · 17/03/2021 18:31

MC oh my goodness same here!! I have had more conversations during the last few weeks because of school run again and I find myself unable to think of what to say next 🤦‍♀️ and repeating myself. And wittering. I may have always done those things though 😂

foxessocks · 17/03/2021 18:33

Thanks so much for all the tips!! I'm definitely going to give them all a try and see what work, it is driving me crazy that there is such a tiny bit left that I can't get (the toothbrush got rid of some more but still not all!)

Zoo would you believe I have just this last few weeks decluttered the cocktail sticks because I thought we'd never need them, they'd been sitting in the drawer for YEARS 🤦‍♀️

SingToTheSky · 17/03/2021 18:39

Glad to read this. In the beginning of all this I was desperately hoping to bump into someone, anyone just to have a chat while shopping 😂 now I almost dread it because I wonder how I’d manage a conversation 😂 I think part of it has been due to feeling nothing interesting has happened to talk about. Which clearly isn’t true now. But basically I’ve forgotten how to People. 😳😂

Not done much today except ask therapist for bank details since I can’t get on the app and DH will pay instead. And emailed DD1’s dance teacher as she was upset about missing class today for an extra English lesson.

Other than that I have been reading. And sighing as Cagletini of course drew in my new training notebook 😂

Redsquirrel5 · 17/03/2021 18:46

Foxes glad you managed a walk for yourself.

MC sounds lovely.

Hazel great house news. I hope it works out for you. It is motivating you. I don’t know about you but in our last house I did loads in a fortnight and when I finished it looked so good I didn’t want to move. It meant leaving family and friends again and I loved living by the sea. We then rented for 5 months while we gutted the house. Ceilings down, floors up to damp proof plaster off and then on. Bathroom and kitchen stripped bare and a wall I helped knock down. Then the inglenook fireplace. We were like SC living in a wreck. The curtains were so old that they tore in strips when I took them down. I felt sorry for the old lady who lived here.

UP sorry you are feeling under par. Don’t worry about us we can find it.

Dancing great list. I love Macaroni Cheese but can’t have it now 😕

Zoo I hope the zoolets are being a bit better today. Great lists already.

sing well done let’s hope it gives you more confidence for next time as it sounds like you did really well.

Waderssounds like a manic day. I hope today is easier.

Ta da.
I am waking a bit earlier. If I changed curtains I think it would be earlier still as these ones are LAshley and have thick linings( free from DS2s house) mine are LA homemade and I haven’t got around to making linings in the last ten years. You never know. I have found the sewing machine in the RofD I couldn’t face it in there today.

Sent a couple of emails( procrastination)
Washed up after breakfast.
Cleaned basin, loo and three shelves in bathroom. These are mainly full of Knick knacks. Photos, fish that DS1&2 made, candles. I could clean this quickly without but I think it gives it a bit of character. A bit of me. Photos of Bondi and surf lifesavers, puffins and a sunset over water.
Little boats &shells the kids collected. I timed my self last year and I can clean it all in fifteen minutes.
Bottom of loo and basin.
Shower screen and base and plug hole🤮 I do it every week but still🤢
Bin emptied and wiped.

The window sill tomorrow and the floor and I am done. I did the rest yesterday.

Sunny from about 11:30 so went out for a bit of garden tidy and checking plants. Pleased to say most from last year starting to show. Swept path. Tidied around herbs yesterday. Watered plants in Summerhouse. Did a crossword with DH down there. A little chilly but I had my Yak hair blankie/ wrap to keep me warm.

Back to Chemist to get the rest of prescription. Had to wait out side then inside. Five on but inundated it seemed and chasing GPS. I feel a bit sorry for them.
Co op for almond milk as nearly out. Some good offers. I got two packs of salmon for £7 last week there was only one left so I had prawns as well. So baked potato, cabbage and salmon. I managed to get a new DF ice cream and some honeycomb icecream for DH and 1/2 price raspberries to go with it and a meringue nest.
Thought I would let you know in case you are fans of salmon. Other things 2 for £7.

Chilly now. Hope you all have a good evening and babies and toddlers are 😴 sleeping.

Redsquirrel5 · 17/03/2021 18:51

Foxes 🦊 isn’t it funny how a little bit can drive you mad while the rest can be a shambles. I am just the same. Maybe blow it out with a hair drier if it doesn’t shift. I would have said cotton buds too. I actually buy them just for cleaning. Great for our sash windows.
