Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Mc- mastitis is very painful and can make you very ill if not dealt with.

I suffered from it badly and the only way it got better for me was....strip my top off. Apply a towel soaked in hot water over my shoulder and boob. Then manually express out any milk while massaging the lump in the boob that was blocked. This took at least 25mins. Had to do it for 2 days.
Do the same when you have a bath or shower- this possibly up to 2 weeks.
Also, feed baby on that side whenever you can. ( feed on both sides as normal.) Just pop mctiny on even if you dont think he will have any as it will help.
If you are feeling unwell or hot then ring your docs for advice or your health visitor.
As it can make you feel awful. Dont try and solder on thro.....have you read kellymom? I will try find a link. Flowers

SingToTheSky · 08/03/2021 10:29

Aloeha that’s what I was worried about tbh - her turning up in uniform and people laughing at her 😬🙈 oops.

I feel a bit lost without my course now 😂 hopefully it’ll be marked ASAP as I can’t apply for the next one until it’s officially signed off (funding rules I think). I could and should get on with some futurelearn stuff though really. And I have plenty of books to read!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 08/03/2021 10:32

aloeha I'm 23 weeks so quite close behind you! Our dc5 is 18 months and has become quite unsociable due to lockdowns! He just glares at those who do not live with us Blush

Dancing i agree about school emails, we had one from the big twos school last week, it had 3 attatchments to read one of which was 8 pages long!

Ta da
💫 all up fed dressed
💫 dc delivered to school
💫 bits picked up from shop
💫 cash from cash machine
💫 checked emails and bank
💫 filled sink

Little one has nodded off but i don't feel like i will sleep yet 😣

Morning everyone!
I am back to the land of living, somewhat.

Lots of ta das I see on here already, you are all a very productive folk. I am still in bed. In my defence, baby fell asleep on our bed after a feed and a cuddle, and I took it upon myself to guard his sleep in the meantime 😊

Need to get on top of Mount Washmore today. It's a bit wild out here.

Zoo sending lots of coffee your way, lovely.
That how annoying re blocked nose. Pregnancy is a wonderful thing, isn't it 🥴
Dancing DH has no prior experience with babies/kids (neither do I to be honest), but I think he is terrified of it more than I am 😬
Aloeha bubble picnic sounds wonderful! I need to check what's the craic with the restrictions in our neck of the woods, I want to invite my neighbour for a cup of tea in the garden when it's allowed.
Hazel house hunting is a process, isn't it. I hope you find what you're looking for soon!

Dancingtomusic · 08/03/2021 10:45

mc i thought the idea of using a disposable nappy soaked in hot water and squeezed out...that it keeps warmer for long to help treat matitis- a better idea that a wet towel- as that does go cold quickly.

Hope you are feeling lots better today

Aloeha- breakfast watching the sunrise sounds beautiful!🌅

I swore by cabbage leaves and lying on my front in the bath (not comfy but oh well) 😬

Time to play phantom society in the bath

SingToTheSky · 08/03/2021 10:58

Wait no 😂 I got confused there

Phantom society is a board game and is not to be played in the bath 😂😂😂

Mc3209 · 08/03/2021 11:07

Thank you Dancing. Eating various pills like smarties at least keeps the fever down. Will try the warm nappy thing. McTiny is on sucking duty today, and I also got my hand pump as well. Should hopefully clear soon.

Also, it's International Women's day today! 🥰

Mc3209 · 08/03/2021 11:13

Cross Post Sing

Board games in a bath is an interesting way to play 🤣

SingToTheSky · 08/03/2021 11:27

:o apparently you can get waterproof playing cards. But my proper games are kept well away from water 😂

They found all my phantoms in the nick of time anyway. Booo. He’s doing a quick bit of comprehension before they go and pick up the smallest.

HillsBesideTheSea · 08/03/2021 12:31

Tree pollen levels are through the roof. I have had one with blistering around the eyes due to them not realising about the levels being high and not changing the med dose to the one for hayfever (and specifically tree pollen season)

(still alive, still not a fan of the people, definitely not talking to the teen who has lateral flow testing this week and then school glorious school, can't wait for him to be there)

Will be missing for around a week as bat shit crazy week here. Over estimated how much time I have for stuffs.

SingToTheSky · 08/03/2021 17:56

Oh no hills 😬

Quiet here today!

I finally managed a short gentle walk. Now back stuck on the sofa for the foreseeable 🤢😣. Which is awkward as DS is about to have taekwondo class in the living room 😂

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/03/2021 19:19

sing green face- did i miss /forget once read you are I'll?

Well blazers washed and drying, lil zoo has pile fresh towels,as does D's.two loads washing of D's stuff means he now has clean clothes too!

Lil zoo wanted picky tea,so cracked out the pittas and she had hummus,D's had cheese and carrot, cucumber(and she likes celery) sticks followed by black grapes
Pile veggies need using up roasting with herbs and will be liberally sprinkled cheese once cooked and served bread
Dd2 heavily into the remake of macgyver,so I suspect next few hours will involve multiple episodes of that.lucas till is almost young enough to be my son,but is easy one the eyes so I'm ok with thatGrin

SingToTheSky · 08/03/2021 19:29

Zoo I’ve not felt right since the jab 😬 really weak/wobbly (different from usual flare up), chills etc. The actual walk was ok but since then I’m back to epic nausea and can’t stand up 😬

Mc3209 · 08/03/2021 19:42

Sing 💐💐 I hope you feel better soon
Zoo now I'm curious about mcgyver remake 🤣

Doublechins · 08/03/2021 19:52

Also

Made packed lunches
Sorted washing and put another load on.

Am now making curry and ironing while DH does bath time.

Dancingtomusic · 08/03/2021 20:12

Hi
Sorry for all my x posts this morning guys...my mumset is very slow to refresh so I didnt realise lots of new messages where there.👋

I managed to get kids to school. I missed them so much.
Then I moped outside in the cold folding plastic carrier bags into little squares and put into the boot of my car.
I felt so low mood so forced myself to do a bike ride. Then picked up kids. Bath kids. Then cooked a cheese flan yay.
Got kids into bed at 7pm on dot. They are exhusted. (I nearly died from trying to wake up at 6am this morning.) So i must get sleep.
Waders- its good to know somewhere else does industrial strength pants (like the industrial strength bras I need now. Crossover bra anyone? The ones with the really thick strap that you told your friend, you will never, ever wear anything that looks like that! Remember the adverts? )

Sing- I am so sorry you are feeling ill lovely. Its horrible that you feel sick. Sending you a hug. Are you in the background of the tae kwon do lesson?

Mc- thats a brill list you have going there.

Hills- sending you a hug too.

Up- you are doing loads.

That- your 18month old sounds funny 🤣...can i borrow him for the school run.

I might need your guys help abit. I might be going into anxiety/panic attack mode. Its the school run, i am worrying i will see the agressive dad...every here keeps telling me I wont. Why am I making myself sick worrying about it?

🍒👋everyone i have missed. Forgive me.

halfhope · 08/03/2021 20:14

Gosh sing ☹️ hope you are okay lovely. Almost finished the kitchen. Pulled out fridge, did tray thing at back of fridge 😳 (gathers condensation, bleurgh) ordered charcoal filter for extractor. Washed more walls, did rads. Worked today as well and got in 30 min walk. Tired now. Lights and floor clean tomorrow. Need to do Ds's room's floor tomorrow too as part of daily bleurgh. Need to keep on top of housework in future - note to self 😆.

halfhope · 08/03/2021 20:15

Oh dancing I'm the same with school emails. I've the attention span of Boris Johnson when confronted with one.

SingToTheSky · 08/03/2021 20:52

Charcoal filter you say? Do I need one of these for the fridge?

Thanks for the well wishes. 🥰

Dancing I’m not sure if I was visible on the periphery wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa! But TBH it’s not as bad as Cagletini who was being a massive pain throughout, getting in the way and then wandering around with her pants and leggings round her ankles 😳🙄😂 luckily it’s a big class so his screen would be small on gallery view 😬🙈 I might bribe DD1 to let him use her amply sized bedroom for his classes until they go back to proper meet ups (they did outdoor classes for a while last year so not too much longer).

Also Dancing sorry you are feeling so anxious. My memory is hazy and not sure if I missed something - was it last year he was aggressive, was it something to do with parking or something like that? Do you know if he is the default school run parent or was it unusual for him to be doing it? I know it’s hard not to worry even if it’s unlikely though :( he may not even remember. Some aggressive people seem to just be able to act like that without second thought. :(
