Fledglings are Marching into March (and tentatively inching closer to freedom): The March Flylady Thread

StillUpholding · 28/02/2021 08:33

Welcome fledglings old and new, to March’s Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here . Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

I’ve just realised that it’ll be around a year since our lovely SC came up with the idea of the Keep Calm Corner (KCC) to keep us going in these strange times. I’ll try and keep the tradition going with little snippets of happy stories, memes, questions and distractions. Any contributions welcome as we enter what could be the final stretch to some sort of normality.

Thanks to ED for being a lovely thread leader for February and keeping us (mostly) on the straight and narrow, despite being very busy herself.

Right, quiet at the back there, have we got everyone? Let’s head into March...

Are yours being tested that and if so how's school doing it?some did tests here Friday so all in Monday.the girls school are having 2years test at a time,so in theory if dd2 returned would go back tom.lil zoo us in Tuesdays group,we'd last lot get fone. stressed AF about it after outbreak just before Xmas

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 07/03/2021 18:59

They are testing yes, year group at a time in age order so all mine are in by Tues!

Mc3209 · 07/03/2021 19:00

No flying today.
Went for a drive today, needed to move my car before battery dies again. I forgot how much I love to drive! I also got that mirror that fixes to the headrest of the back seat, so I can see what baby is doing in his rear facing car seat.

Now I have mastitis. It came on very fast, I thought I just needed to pump when coming back from a drive, but it escalated quickly. Feeling so rough, so I just went to bed for a day. We ended up watching documentaries in bed, all 3 of us. Was nice.
Baby got all the screen time and minimal tummy time. He doesn't know what has happened 😂

halfhope · 07/03/2021 19:02

Sorry to hear about the mastitis MC. I remember it myself. Glad car working. Three of us are watching Batman begins here

SingToTheSky · 07/03/2021 19:08

Ours are doing similar. Arranged by year and then split into two time slots by surname. DD1 is very nervous about the test as she’s not needed one before, but I’m hoping positive peer pressure will help if her classmates are there too!

About to drag myself up the stairs to do Cagletini’s bath. Thankfully it’s not a hair washing night although there’s probably dinner in it Hmm :o - I can just sit and let her play a bit. Tempting to skip it as I feel so weak but we’ve really got into a good routine the last week or so, and I don’t want to jeopardise that.

I will try and leave the house tomorrow. Honest guv.

Doublechins · 07/03/2021 19:10

MC mastitis is awful. You'll need some antibiotics too. I found a warm flannel and then pushing on the actual blockage with an electric toothbrush (or other vibrating device 😉) while either feeding or expressing cleared the blockage for me. It's painful though.

SingToTheSky · 07/03/2021 19:11

Oh hell mc sorry about the mastitis 😭 it is horrible. Time for another bath, while you massage? And DH can watch the baby this time. Hope you feel better soon 💐

Right. Bath.

SingToTheSky · 07/03/2021 19:11

For Cagletini I mean 😂

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/03/2021 19:37

MCFlowers

SingToTheSky · 07/03/2021 19:52

Double :o

Phew well it took a while to tear her away from DS but the smallest is bathed and pyjama’d.

StillUpholding · 07/03/2021 20:57

Hope you feel better soon That and Mc Flowers

I am also desperate for new bras but can’t bring myself to invest in new scaffolding when I have 2 stone to lose Hmm

Rest of ta Das today:
🎺 sorted kitchen and wiped table after Sunday roast
🎺 placated grumpy DD with half an hour on the beach
🎺 upstairs dusted and hoovered
🎺 cleaned bathroom floor
🎺 tidied dressing table and chairdrobe in dressing room
🎺 made soup
🎺 ironing
🎺 bags packed for work and nursery

Going to drag myself off the sofa and prep some
Overnight oats, do my weekly planning, then off to bed.

We go into zone 2 tomorrow (mine really needs it) and we somehow seem to back to home bleurgh. Mine has all been done over the weekend 🙌🏻

Here’s the sneak peek of the week

Night everyone

halfhope · 07/03/2021 21:21

Thanks still. Home bleurgh/blessing tomorrow.

aloeha · 07/03/2021 21:33

I’m exhausted!! DD was up at 5 this morning and has only just gone to sleep, she’s been on the go all day😂. It’s been a nice day though regardless, we live in a tower block so don’t have a garden but the sunrise was nice this morning so I took DD outside the flats and had a cup of tea watching the sunrise. I’m watching a documentary about Mormons now it’s very interesting.

That I’m 25 weeks😊 I am struggling with boys clothes, I’ve got a few bits but they all seem to be grey or navy, there aren’t many bright options!. Sorry you aren’t feeling very well💐

hope I hope he makes it back too but it doesn’t seem very likely🙄, you holding up your DS for your DH to see reminds me of the Lion King😂

mc it is an absolute nightmare with the flights, we broke up because of things like this he just doesn’t think. I have heard about the sprinkler system, hopefully I’m prepared😂 I’m glad you enjoyed your bath 🛀🏻 sorry about the mastitis, I hope your DH helps out so you can get some rest❤️

dancing yes nanny plum is very funny, good luck with back to school tomorrow!

I hope that got some rest after your early morning sing💤

I’m sorry about the arguments this morning zoo❤️

Its lovely to hear about everyone’s first words, some of them are so funny😂. I know someone who didn’t speak until they were about three and then one day said “sometimes I play with my toys and sometimes I get angry”😂

halfhope · 07/03/2021 21:42

aloeha that's made me laugh - Lion King 😆 some of the other mums were a bit tearful when they saw me do it which was really nice of them. I couldn't hold him too high up due to stitches 😳. Hakuna matata 😀

HazelNuttyElf · 08/03/2021 04:05

Been busy this weekend.

Friday (after work)
🦋 Ironing! I got it all done and put away!

Saturday
🐞 2 LOLs
🐞 Grilled ribs in the morning - almost burned the patio cover down, but I got it under control
🐞 Rescued the ribs and placed them in the slow cooker for 7 hours
🐞 Returned extra skirting boards for a refund
🐞 Did my nails while skyping my mum
🐞 Placed grocery order and picked it up
🐞 Finished making dinner for ILs
🐞 Rotated DW a couple of times
🐞 Had too much to eat and drink and was up with acid reflux a couple of times in the night

Sunday
🦋 Skyped mum, helped her play scrabble on her iPad while we talked on her phone 😂
🦋 Showered and defrosted
🦋 Looked at 3 houses 🙄 one was really old and needed a bit of work to make it work for us, another had a great sized lot, but the house would have to be a teardown and build new (soft flooring, possibly rotten wood floors, seemed like it had been added on several times, only one bathroom, but a huge house, didn't make any sense at all). The last house is still being built, a possibility, until we saw the HOA rules. It's a big nope from us, so we'll keep looking.
🦋 Painted the outside of the house, well the door frames and some window frames. I also started on the patio. We have to make sure there's no chipping paint outside due to the age of the home. It would require lead paint testing of there's any missed.
🦋 Leftovers for dinner
🦋 Rotated DW and wiped countertops
🦋 Got lunch ready for tomorrow
🦋 Relaxing on the couch, ready to fall asleep!

Back to work tomorrow, so probably won't have much to post for ta das

I did read the thread, but earlier today. I know there was talk of stroppy teens, mastitis (ouch!) And more. Sorry for not replying directly to you all today

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/03/2021 04:10

Doublechins · 08/03/2021 07:57

Sorry for the lack of sleep zoo and that. Hope you both get a chance to have a nap at some point today Brew

So far just up, dressed & S&S. Left at 6.10 to pick my DGM up to come watch the kids then left for uni at 6.30. Just sat waiting for my covid test now so I can actually go in.

Thanks for anyone anxious about back to school today too.

halfhope · 08/03/2021 08:18

Well done on putting the ironing away hazel - my major point of failure 😆. Have cleaned some of the kitchen units, stripped beds. About to swish and swipe toilets. Got breakfast and coffee.

SingToTheSky · 08/03/2021 08:47

Aaargh. Fail. Finally had an email saying yes DD1 was allowed in school for her usual part time schedule this week, in advance of her whole year starting back on Friday. What I didn’t realise is that as of today all the key worker/vulnerable children were also meant to be in uniform 😬🙈 oops. One embarrassed Caglet. Hoping she’s not wearing anything too outlandish today.

Have got up and helped get Cagletini ready. Bleary eyed as she was restless last night. Weighed myself and somehow lost 2lb despite basically doing nothing for a week Hmm

Really CBA with home ed today (for newbies, DS (11, autistic) has been out of school for 6 years). Think it’ll be another week of just the basics TBH (maths, English, physics, story and a couple of regular weekly things) - I am in no rush to step it up until DD1 has settled back into full time school.

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/03/2021 09:05

Hazel - you have done loads!!

aloeha · 08/03/2021 10:23

Good morning 😊 it’s quite a nice morning here, DD is watching some cartoons and I’m starting the home bleugh. I’ve spent the morning planning my activities for work this week, then I need to sort the resources out later and I’m all ready. It’ll be another walk for us today, but I think the guidance has changed so we are now allowed a picnic in the park which we might do just to change things up a bit, as long as the rain holds off.

hope I might have to do the same with DS if we can see family by the time he’s born😂 that’s lovey of the other mums getting tearful❤️

I hope your house search goes well hazel! How exciting (and stressful!)

Sorry about the lack of slee zoo and that💐

Oh bless your DD sing, I did the opposite and turned up in my uniform when it was non-uniform day once, I died of embarrassment😂. I hope home schooling goes well.

I am going to ask our bubble if they’d like to come for a picnic too. I can’t believe almost a year on we’re still in the same place as we were! Hopefully things ease up a bit before DS is born, I really want him to see our family. DD was only 3 months old at the start of lockdown so hasn’t seen our family as much as I’d like, but at least she got to meet them!.

Right I best get back to being productive! Have a good day everyone :)

SingToTheSky · 08/03/2021 10:23

May the transition back to school go smoothly for all fledglings and mini fledglings!

DS has done his exercise (he’s getting into good habits by doing that first thing each day I reckon!) and I’ve read to him - pushed through to the end of the chapter and now my throat feels a little hoarse 😂

I must do a book order for him via the library. He’s still refusing to read regular novels at night, but he likes puzzle books - like the usborne ones where there’s a basic story and then a puzzle on each page that you solve with the pictures. We had a few from charity shops but really they are a one-time-use thing and we are running out. I also thought he might like some of the basic “choose your own adventure” type things, I’m sure beast quest type series have some like that. If anyone has any recommendations I’d be grateful!

Also - happy international women’s day to all of us!
