Here we are on the February 2021 Flylady thread - this time last year we were just starting to realise that the world was going to change in a big, big way. The Fledgling threads have pulled us all together and been a great source of comfort and distraction from it all.

This is a friendly housekeeping thread based (loosely... Extremely loosely sometimes 😂) on Flylady's housekeeping system . Welcome one and all, lurkers and long-time posters alike. Join in, hang out, but above all remember you are not behind, just jump in where you are.

The beauty of Flylady is that you don't have to flatten yourself trying to get your house clean to begin the routine upkeep; the first - and only - thing she asks you to do is to shine your kitchen sink. Routines - morning, afternoon and evening - are built gradually through her Baby Steps. To those, you add a Daily Focus and a weekly area to concentrate cleaning on. By the end of a month, your whole house will have had some attention. If you miss a bit, never mind, it'll come round next month!

For this month, I'll be posting daily links to the Launch Pad on the Flylady site so you can follow the daily focus and cleaning missions. You can sign up to receive emails from Flylady, but we suggest you don't - she sends masses, which will clog up your inbox and drive you insane into the bargain.

Because this thread has been running a while, there are some acronyms we use to make life easier
S&S - swish and swipe, round the bathroom to keep it acceptable daily
LOL - load of laundry. No, we don't find washing that funny!
Ned - born of a typo, a mythical being who assists with laundry mountains
The pointy stick ----> to motivate people
PO3 - Power of 3, if you can only face a few tasks. People often find groups of 3 tasks stack up over a day!
The Naughty Corner - where we head when it's all Too Much. Usually stocked with fresh coffee, fluffy throws, delicious snacks and the opportunity to sit quietly with friends or build a blanket fort and sulk in it if you need to.

During the Pandemic, we have also been using the KCC or Keep Calm Corner, invented by long-time poster / thread leader SC. This is a regular dose of memes, questions for discussion, random trivia etc to distract us from the rest of the world. All contributions welcome!

Remember - No Fledgling Left Behind!

Sorry you’re feeling flat Foxes, Flowers. Feel free to whinge away. I did plenty last week! I’m feeling a bit better, but DH just asked if I’d had a good weekend and all I could muster was “mmm”. Also feeling snow disappointment. I just know there’ll be loads overnight, I’ll have a nightmare commute, miss all the fun with DD and it’ll gone by the time I’m off Grin. Hope bathtime arguments didn’t get too heated.

Sing that is indeed what canned air is for and it is most satisfying (if not a bit minging) on keyboards.

My ta das today (with the suggested emoji for ‘meh’:
😑 hoovered and dusted upstairs
😑 dusted, hoovered and mopped downstairs
😑 cleaned living room window of sticky finger prints yet again for the millionth time this year
😑 stripped and remade DD’s bed
😑 ironed and put away clean clothes
😑 usual food and clothes prep for the week
😑 made soup
😑 tidied kitchen (we had another delivered Sunday lunch and just sandwiches for tea, so didn’t take much effort)

I haven’t been sticking to missions either, sorry Flylady! Will try and reintroduce them this week now I seem to be feeling less rebellious.

Well I wouldn't say fanatical devotion to the Pope....although this one I'd probably be happy to go for a pint with!

halfhope · 07/02/2021 22:02

The other three attributes are of course Halfhope hallmarks!

Evening all,

Sorry, I'm not doing very well with keeping up. DS has needed a lot of support with his coursework over the last few days and the swimming club stuff is taking at least an hour a day too, hopefully that should be finished in the next few days. Also been trying to book a holiday.

I have read right through but can't remember who said what Confused. We had a glorious day yesterday, sunny, blue skies, really warm in the sunshine. Today has been bitterly cold with snow flurries but none settling. I took DS to football (disability sport is still allowed) first time since Christmas as he has been feeling very cautious. I think he really needed it, he has been much calmer since we went, having been quite stressed for the last few days.

Back in a minute with links for Monday

Hi everyone thank you all for being so kind. I got some sleep last night and everything felt much better, as it always does after some sleep. I don’t want to go into too much detail, but there’s an issue with DM’s ex who was abusive. Things have calmed down a bit, but everyone’s a bit shaken up. Mum and Nan are staying at mine for a little while, but we’re all feeling a lot more positive. Thanks again for being so kind everyone!. No snow here either, slightly disappointed but apparently we might have some tonight.

Sorry about the crap day zoo that’s really shit of the vets!

foxes very annoying about the bed wetting on fresh sheets, obviously not DS’s fault but frustrating nonetheless. I completely understand the flatness you’re feeling, I hope tomorrow’s better!

sing I hope you start feeling the affects of your meds soon! Good luck with limiting screen time!

Minimal flying, just surviving at the moment. I hope you’re all well!

Just added a bit to tomorrow’s tesco shop. Really glad there are only four days left of this half of term. Not prepared anything for DS. But tomorrow morning will be taken up with groceries and DISHWASHER.

I’m glad I got my stuff for the challenge sorted already. Cleaned the veg drawer as DH had taken it out and emptied it, got rid of three random utensils, and sorted one Kallax square in the living room - I have now put all my best piano music on a higher shelf so it’s easier to access and I won’t need to keep it on the floor underneath instead. The space in the piano stool can just be used for loose sheets like PDF printouts and single songs of which I have a few. I still have another square of music to sort at some point, and TBH the clearing of the shelf involved moving crap elsewhere, but oh well.

Not done my drawing yet, hoping to feel a bit better shortly, adjusting to meds wearing off is turning out to be difficult like last time so I feel a bit FNNRRRGGH

At least DD1 came down on time with her phone (I mean she had no choice as it blocked her but still) and she and DS are happily watching anime before bed (she will have to do washing up too as it’s her job today).

You can't wait a month without heat. Kick up merry hell waders. Explain you're poorly and can't move around to keep warm.

halfhope · 08/02/2021 09:36

It seems February is turning out to be the new January but with pancakes.

SingToTheSky · 08/02/2021 09:52

:o hope love that

LOOOOOOK

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 08/02/2021 10:31

Oh god now i have snow envy and dishwasher envy

SingToTheSky · 08/02/2021 11:06

Sorry that 💖 I reckon the envy is telling you it would be worth the space to get one! For me it’s not just about the time and energy saved with the actual washing up (DH does more of that than the rest of us although the rota has helped even it up a bit) but also the fact we will no longer have dishes piling up on the counter and in the sink looking messy through the day, which will mean the counters stay cleaner and there is more space for cooking etc so I’m hoping cooking and baking won’t feel like such a chore in the evening too because cleanup will be so much quicker.

SingToTheSky · 08/02/2021 11:14

DD1 got her report. She’s on target for pretty much everything, and above for, unsurprisingly, sports studies dance and art 💖 targets are C for everything (if I’ve read the number system right) but presumably she could improve those in her better subjects?! I don’t know how the system works at all. TBH she is not academic at all and with the struggles caused by her learning difficulties it will be a case of scraping through the core subjects, she wants to do a dance diploma for sixth form. The one at the local college gives them a chance to redo maths and English if needed which is good. Anyway I’m absolutely chuffed that her marks for effort etc are pretty good, I think her teachers can see how hard she’s trying.

She also started writing a story in bed last night 😱 she’s not done anything like that for ages. So I feel just a little bit more hopeful.

Now I really need to do stuff with DS, which is difficult with the 3yo around (just sent DH to bed as he’s looking rough). He’s only done iPad stuff so far.

Dancingtomusic · 08/02/2021 11:21

Sing- yay your dishwasher is here! Yay!

Sorry to everyone feeling in a slump, cba or meh. I am in this camp. No motivation. Its gone.

Waders- oh no! How is your hand? Are you ok?
Also, no heating! Lots of hot water bottles if you have them. Sending you blazing hot hug.

Yesterday, I ate nearly a half a packet of mcvit digestive choco biscuits, (shared with the family) and feeling it.

Redsquirrel5 · 08/02/2021 11:39

Sing Congratulations on your new baby.

That not sure I should mention it is cold here but that’s all white! 🤣

I cleaned the top of my cooker last week so won’t be doing that again for a while. Leaves French toast in naughty corner. Off to do home bleugh.

halfhope · 08/02/2021 11:43

Started home bleurgh. About to go out in deep white stuff sorry that to post work mail. Bins emptied. Need to do floors.
