Here we are on the February 2021 Flylady thread - this time last year we were just starting to realise that the world was going to change in a big, big way. The Fledgling threads have pulled us all together and been a great source of comfort and distraction from it all.

This is a friendly housekeeping thread based (loosely... Extremely loosely sometimes 😂) on Flylady's housekeeping system . Welcome one and all, lurkers and long-time posters alike. Join in, hang out, but above all remember you are not behind, just jump in where you are.

The beauty of Flylady is that you don't have to flatten yourself trying to get your house clean to begin the routine upkeep; the first - and only - thing she asks you to do is to shine your kitchen sink. Routines - morning, afternoon and evening - are built gradually through her Baby Steps. To those, you add a Daily Focus and a weekly area to concentrate cleaning on. By the end of a month, your whole house will have had some attention. If you miss a bit, never mind, it'll come round next month!

For this month, I'll be posting daily links to the Launch Pad on the Flylady site so you can follow the daily focus and cleaning missions. You can sign up to receive emails from Flylady, but we suggest you don't - she sends masses, which will clog up your inbox and drive you insane into the bargain.

Because this thread has been running a while, there are some acronyms we use to make life easier
S&S - swish and swipe, round the bathroom to keep it acceptable daily
LOL - load of laundry. No, we don't find washing that funny!
Ned - born of a typo, a mythical being who assists with laundry mountains
The pointy stick ----> to motivate people
PO3 - Power of 3, if you can only face a few tasks. People often find groups of 3 tasks stack up over a day!
The Naughty Corner - where we head when it's all Too Much. Usually stocked with fresh coffee, fluffy throws, delicious snacks and the opportunity to sit quietly with friends or build a blanket fort and sulk in it if you need to.

During the Pandemic, we have also been using the KCC or Keep Calm Corner, invented by long-time poster / thread leader SC. This is a regular dose of memes, questions for discussion, random trivia etc to distract us from the rest of the world. All contributions welcome!

Remember - No Fledgling Left Behind!

Grrr just lost a post, MN randomly refreshed!

Sorry I went Awol for a couple of days again Blush

I can do March ED if there’s no other volunteers. Might help me stay on track. I can start a day early if we are running out of room. I’ll keep an eye. There may be some late posts though as it’s looking like I’ll have to do a bit of overtime this month. DH’s run of overtime is just coming to an end and now it’s my turn Sad

Flowers for all the fledglings have a tough time with DC/school worries

Sing yesterday sounds like a disaster. Hope today goes more smoothly. DD used to have far more account nursery. Like someone said upthread I think she was just too engrossed in whatever they were doing and would hold it as long as possible, which wasn’t always long enough.

Hurrah for finding a home for the pushchair Dancing! Always nice for things to be reused.

I did manage some tadas as well as working:
✔️ Decluttered cosmetics and toiletries in dressing room
✔️ cleaned boudoir and dressing room windows
✔️ cleaned mouldy spot in dressing room
✔️ lots of LOLs washed dried and put away
✔️ stripped and remade DD’s bed
✔️ stayed on top of kitchen and general tidyness on work days.
✔️ got better life insurance sorted
✔️ Caught up with thread Smile

DD and I ventured into the garden on Wednesday afternoon for the first time in ages. Had a lovely hour playing so might try that again today as well as our walk.

Home bleurghing this morning. May have to go to work at some point this weekend as it’s my turn on call.

I admire anyone who can still have sellable Lego after building, DS’ sets usually get mucked about with so much it would be impossible! Apart from his Mario Lego which he was given at Christmas and is sitting safely on his shelves. Not tempted at all to buy any technic off you, no not at all, honest guv 😬

Got a bit of a lie in again. Just finishing an episode of a tv show then I need to get up and shower, have breakfast then work out bus times. Thankfully it looks sunny out there so the journey will be nice - I’ll walk to town but get the bus the rest of the way (it’s in the partner surgery where we used to live, they aren’t doing it in the town centre one - I assume because the queues would get in the way) and I can finish my book. That’ll be my third book finished this year, so I think I’m improving my rate 😂

We never end up with full lego sets either. Its not something i really rate as a toy tbh, in this house it gets built once and then broken up in the big box! And its sooooo expensive!

Ta da
🌻 all up fed and dressed
🌻 some washing away
🌻 washer on
🌻 ordered some bits of uniform
🌻 looked at finances for March (positive 🥳)

Ooh random bits. That is my fave kind of Lego. And DS’ too in a way as he makes lots of moving/transforming models. He’s currently making all the bosses from some game called cuphead. 🤷‍♀️

I’ve never manage to rescue a hole set of Lego to sell. Mine were never very into it, DD had a short spell but dyspraxia DH couldn’t make kits at all. But they had a spell from about ages 5-10 when it seemed to be the default birthday present so we had masses of small kits, they would open them and it all ended up lost or mixed up. We just have one huge box of pieces now and I threw out all the packets and leaflets years ago.

Up - thank you for offering to take over next month, much appreciated, also your offer to share Waders. I apologise for not being a very hands on thread leader this month, but we have made it through to the final weekend.

Tada!

Up, despatched DS in paper round
Bread dough made for lunch and sourdough started for baking tomorrow
1st LOL on line, 2nd in machine.

It’s a lovely sunny day here, hope it is for the rest of you too. It very often is beautifully sunny and warm at the end of Feb, no idea why.

Nap- sorry to hear you and the kids are feeling unwell. Good idea to stay at bubble and get support. Dont worry about the tidying- life happens- when you are well you will speed through it. Hug. Just focus on getting better and the kids.

Sing- oh the glass! Do you find bits of glass 6 months later, hidden under the fridge! 😮🙄🤦‍♀️

Sing - hope your appt goes really smoothly today.
Waders- thats good your Dh got called for his vaccine.
Had my vaccine at 8.15am today- it was the only time avaiable to book and i was glad as i thought it wouldnt be busy.
There was about 35 people infront of me and the stewards where brilliant calling anyone with a 8.15am appt forward ( i was at the back of the queue.) Lots of 8.30am people where queuing early.
I was so scared and nervous but I pulled my housekeeping big girl pants on up around my shoulders. Stewards were all friendly and saying hello. Nurse was lovely and i didnt feel anything - less than having an injection for a holiday. Told to wait in car for 15mins. Got outside and queue was around the building. Everyone was calm and waiting, if anyone needed help people in the queue were helping. Everyone social distancing. Stewards were lovely and bringing out chairs for anyone that couldnt stand long. Really well organised.
I had my hands squirted with hand sanisiter as i went in and after i filled in forms- i didnt know my nhs number and they just found it online in 1min.
Oh and I had my fabric face mask on and they kindly asked if I would put on the blue surgical mask they gave me instead.
Goodness I was nervous as I had only told Dh last night at 8pm that could he be up for the kids in the morning. Hadnt even told my family. I rang my dad and he was relieved I have had it but he is worrying about my dh as dh is always ill. But we will wait, they speeding through things so everyone will have theres soon. Hope this helps someone who is wondering what its like, i know i would find comfort in being abit prepped about what happens. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Thank you to anyone reading this and helping as a steward or health care proffessional and being friendly as i was abit scared. I am ok now, relieved its done. Could sleep last night for worrying. Breathe. Deep yoga breathes.
Oh and a lady was going and wiping down tables after people had approached them. I saw her wiping down doors so thankful they are cleaning down surfaces.
I think it did take 30-40mins waiting in queue outside and finishing.

ED you’ve been a fab thread leader! Steered us through another crazy month!

Unopened Lego boxes are impossible to imagine here (although my set from last year is still unopened, waiting for space on top of our Kallax so I can actually keep it safe once built). DD used to like it (mainly building endless houses, and oh god the pure rage if she was interrupted) but then suddenly found it too difficult and frustrating - she has a couple of Harry Potter sets on display now but that’s it.

DS OTOH wants to be a Lego designer when he’s older. After discovering a new element, [our surname]ium, at which point he will retire from chemistry, job done.🤔😂 Oh the innocent dreams of youth.

Well done for getting your jab today dancing! You may hang up your big girl/superhero pants for a good week I reckon. I’m ok with jabs, just worried about side effects, but trying not to think about it until they happen (if they do! The people I actually know IRL have all been completely fine). Will have a proper shower and hair wash when I get in, as I’ll be around a lot of people today between the clinic and 2 or 3 buses. Plus it’s an excuse to get straight into jammies!

You’ve been a fab thread leader ED! Are you happy for me just to start the new one as soon as this one fills up? It’s also absolutely glorious here. I have washing on the line (not sad at all to be excited by this Waders).

Glad you got your jab Dancing.

Forgot to congratulate you on passing the essay That 🎊 Well done!

Good luck with the Lego Waders. I am not looking forward to the Lego phase to be honest. Mixed up sets will make me itch.

Hope you’re feeling better soon Nap.

Ta da:
✔️ LOL in and out on line
✔️ s&s x 2
✔️ DD’s bed made, ours stripped and remade
✔️ cleaned living room window (inside and out, could barley see through it from the snow and salt, and no sign of our window cleaner)
✔️ dusted, hoovered and mopped living room thoroughly including under sofas.
✔️ Dusted, hoovered and mopped kitchen, dining room and utility
✔️ carried armfuls of random crap upstairs

Still have the hall floor to do but I gave up and went to join DH and DD on the beach in the sunshine where they’d ended up after there walk. Enjoying a cuppa now before I get moving again.

Up - yes, go ahead with the new thread, the thought of being threadless is a bit unsettling!

I have three lots of washing on the line, bread rolls just out of the oven and feeling fairly chilled.

Dancing thank you for telling us about the vaccine process, I'm group 9 so mine will be a while yet but DH should get his imminently. Glad it went so smoothly for you.

waders that is a very important question! Yes! I do have a kettle, was one of the first things I bought over here. It takes FOREVER to heat up though. I actually only have it as a back up now though, I have a Keurig that I always use now. I actually don't drink tea anymore though, it's coffee now. I grew up drinking about 10-13 cups per day, and at about 16 I didn't want to be fat and wondered what would happen if I only drank water instead. I lost about 10lbs in the 1st month! I did add 1 1/2tsp sugar per cup though, so that's why! I do have to have a good cup of tea when I go home, but after one or two I go back to coffee.

Sorry, that was long!
I have a mess in the kitchen to sort out, just things getting dumped in there. Laundry to do, painting to do 🥺
I have just finished my 2nd cup of coffee for the day.
YesTaDas!
🚙 I finally donated a box and bag of things at the charity shop, I've only had them in my jeep for about a month 😳
🚙 I also took a couple of bags to my ILs for my BIL and his DC (also been in my jeep for the same amount of time)

My jeep looks normal again! I looked into it the other day and thought it was starting to look like a hoarders car, collecting things in there! No more extra stuff now 😊
It's just about 10am, I have got to get a move on, maybe I'll start with getting dressed 🤣

On a plus note i know what i need to revise all of it

Arses.

Apparently people want feeding and they cant find the tin opener. Hmm Should probably put on laundry before I go back to failing practise tests...
