Here we are on the February 2021 Flylady thread - this time last year we were just starting to realise that the world was going to change in a big, big way. The Fledgling threads have pulled us all together and been a great source of comfort and distraction from it all.

This is a friendly housekeeping thread based (loosely... Extremely loosely sometimes 😂) on Flylady's housekeeping system . Welcome one and all, lurkers and long-time posters alike. Join in, hang out, but above all remember you are not behind, just jump in where you are.

The beauty of Flylady is that you don't have to flatten yourself trying to get your house clean to begin the routine upkeep; the first - and only - thing she asks you to do is to shine your kitchen sink. Routines - morning, afternoon and evening - are built gradually through her Baby Steps. To those, you add a Daily Focus and a weekly area to concentrate cleaning on. By the end of a month, your whole house will have had some attention. If you miss a bit, never mind, it'll come round next month!

For this month, I'll be posting daily links to the Launch Pad on the Flylady site so you can follow the daily focus and cleaning missions. You can sign up to receive emails from Flylady, but we suggest you don't - she sends masses, which will clog up your inbox and drive you insane into the bargain.

Because this thread has been running a while, there are some acronyms we use to make life easier
S&S - swish and swipe, round the bathroom to keep it acceptable daily
LOL - load of laundry. No, we don't find washing that funny!
Ned - born of a typo, a mythical being who assists with laundry mountains
The pointy stick ----> to motivate people
PO3 - Power of 3, if you can only face a few tasks. People often find groups of 3 tasks stack up over a day!
The Naughty Corner - where we head when it's all Too Much. Usually stocked with fresh coffee, fluffy throws, delicious snacks and the opportunity to sit quietly with friends or build a blanket fort and sulk in it if you need to.

During the Pandemic, we have also been using the KCC or Keep Calm Corner, invented by long-time poster / thread leader SC. This is a regular dose of memes, questions for discussion, random trivia etc to distract us from the rest of the world. All contributions welcome!

Remember - No Fledgling Left Behind!

ED thank you so much for your fabulous thread leadership this month and thank you too Still upholding for doing March. Glad things going better examwise Hills. I need that meme waders 😆. Have just spring cleaned main bedroom and ensuite. Manky is not the word. I even washed the walls of the ensuite. It's the start of my proper spring-cleaning. Main bathroom is next but it is mad busy at work this month so don't know how quickly the clean will progress.

Waders that is so funny.

Gorgeous sunny day as I look out from my window while lying in bed. I have woken up after a lot of sleep to going to the loo twice needn’t say more. DH has told me to keep away from him but he has gone to the garage to buy some ginger ale and has just brought me some toast and honey.
I just hope it isn’t Covid as I have heard some started this way. Resting up but still have time to knit my scarf it will be finished soon.

Just watching Love Your Garden made for a father that is only 32 with Alzheimer’s and they have twins as well who made inherit it 50/50 chance. Makes you very humble .

That meme is FAB!!!
(And very appropriate as dd2 thinks she's some kind of deity today, immune from proposed garden tidy, and allowed to sit on arse and scroll thru ANOTHER DAY

That’s brilliant waders 😂

Right, another cuddly toy wash is on, smoothie (mixed berries and banana with a dash of milk) is made and super yum, DW is on and I made DD1 give the counters a quick wipe over.

Also had a look through the rest of unit 5 and made a few notes. Trying to persuade DD1 to do some more work 🙄🙄🙄

Sounds perfect merry

Feeling a bit better about the exam situation after finding some online resources from the assessing body when I went looking for their computerised like actual exam past papers. Going to tackle those today and then work on the knowledge gaps; knowing full well i have not even got around to studying 2 of the topics yet.

It'll be fine, and if not, there are resists they cost but they are allowed and possible And tbf i am lucky I have had great practise at failing exams in my past.

Do we have a link to the new thread?

AAARGH. Went to get my breakfast and discovered that during their (Kpop themed) living room sleepover last night, DS had left the freezer unsealed. Gaaaah. So we got it all out and went through it. Some stuff was fine, other stuff not worth the risk and yet more defrosted enough to use up today so the menu for today is a bit odd 😂 also making smoothies with half frozen berries and will make some biscuits with the leftover dough, Cagletini can help.

Also taking the opportunity to actually clean the freezer and drawers because OMG it was a mess. So half the drawers are on the draining board, when they’re dry I’ll move the stuff and clean out the actual freezer shell and the other drawers. At least it’s easier with less frozen stuff I guess.

I feel ok so far, arm really hurts though 😂 it definitely helped that I had a decent sleep. Cagletini has not napped the last few days and since we switched back to normal pull up nappies at night (as opposed to the “training” ones) she sleeps through other than climbing in with us at some point.

Have sent DH back to bed (needed his help with the freezer, we got DS to help too) and going to fill the DW now as we have somehow built up enough for an extra load.

Hope you got back to sleep Zoo

Lovely photos Red. It’s definitely starting to feel
spring-like here. Eek at rat.

Ooh how exciting about the new kitchen ED

Oh Hills it’s awful feeling like you’re going to fail. You still have some time, it may just click

Hope you’re feeling ok after your jab Sing. It’s lovely to start to see more of us getting them.

Any chance of flying over and sorting my car out Hazel? I’m sure that would count as essential travel, it’s pretty manky.

I didn’t get much more flying done yesterday. Just the hall floor, and cleaned the kitchen up at the end of the day. We had a nice walk in the afternoon. I was getting a bit bored of the same mile radius of our house (as lucky as we are with what is in that mile), but it’s amazing how warmer weather can make it seem different. Right, now breakfast.

We’ve got a 110i. We love ours I hope you do too. I love looking at how different all the kitchens are. I also like the fact that most people like to cook/bake so not showroom clean. Some of the dishes are so delicious it makes you want to go out and buy the ingredients.

Red - yes, been in the EH FB group for a few months. We went to a showroom last year between lockdowns, picked up the colour swatches and had a virtual consultation with EH HQ a couple of weeks ago. We are thinking of the one that is just called Blue as opposed to Dusky or Marine. It will be in a spot where the light shines on it from the patio doors. In an ideal world we'd like the 120 but it would mean losing too much counter and storage.

More spring photos.

ED have you had a look at the Everhot Discussion page and the Everhot Facebook page as there is lots of advice and 🤗 photos of Everhot and lots of blue recently. Which blue do you like? There are lots of people putting their bakes on and recipes. I love having a scroll through. Between that and the Rhino page I can waste an hour easily.

Well done for the 11 year old going to the shop. They vary so much don’t they. DD didn’t have much experience of shopping herself whereas two eldest went into the village shops in Scotland. We had two and a Fish and Chip shop in the summer season so they used to get a bit of pocket money for chores on a Saturday. They knew the staff from birth so were allowed to go ahead of me on a Saturday.
I started to take DD and her friend to shop in the city( small) and her mum and I would go for a coffee and the girls had an area that they could go but knew where we were if they needed us. We gradually extended the area over the year, before Secondary. They often went to dancing class so would go before or after. It is a good way of building up confidence.
Then there are other children whose parents depend on them. There was a boy at school who would be in amongst it and a bit cheeky. I met him in a supermarket after school once. He had a chat then went on but came back to ask my advice as he didn’t have quite enough money. Which did I think was more important? And he was happy with my advice. I could have given him the money but outside of school it isn’t on. So I saw him at the till and he had two bags of shopping. He smiled and waved. He was 8 1/2yr old. I thought he had a lot on his shoulders and gave the nod to his teacher in regards to homework as I thought he might not get it done because he was helping support mum. No wonder he was street wise. I saw a different side to him that day.

Thank you for leading the thread ED. I do check the links not always every day and I am happy to scroll back if it is in the first post.

Taken me a while to catch up. Had a terrible night’s sleep as I had a butcher made fish cake for tea and it had quite a bit of chilli in it 🌶 so it gave me intervention/ heart burn. Felt tired when I woke up but whereas I usually pull around I couldn’t today. Aching in my joints and leg muscles and an awful feeling of lethargy so I went back to bed and have been here all day. DH said this morning I didn’t look well. So no flying today.

DH has been busy laying traps as I found a tunnel and yesterday DH saw a rat. I can’t abide them and they scare me so he is doing hens at the moment. We think there is some under the shed. Next door had them a few years ago so I wonder if they have them too. DH doesn’t want to ask them because he will blame the hens.

Hills I hope it comes together for you if not can you resist as surely people realise things are so different and extra worry and responsibilities.

Good news for those who have had jabs. DH saidhe just felta bit tireder than normal but is fine now.

Loved the photos and as so many were cheered by them I went out and took some yesterday. Today has been lovely and I feel a bit annoyed that I have missed the opportunity to be out in it. I had plans if it was sunny.
I need to go back and re read some posts as a bit muddled in my head.

Thank you all for the kind comments, on other occasions when I’ve been the thread leader I’ve felt I kept up with the chat and the links better than this time, but then again, the chat seems to be flowing freely at the moment anyway —not sure how many people actually click on the links—.

So, tada! 4 LOL line dried. Last lot (towels) didn’t completely dry so they are on radiators now. Fire lit, DS is going to make dinner and I’ve been for a walk and to the fill-up shop.

Hills - hope things aren’t as bad as they sound with the exam. And that the people give you a bit of rest. You have a lot on your plate.

Hazel - well done on the jeep. My car looks like a hoarder’s car too, the boot is completely full of stuff for the charity shop / tip and the back seat has coats, emergency blanket, shopping bags, two big bags of plastic bags to take to recycling when I pick up the shopping tomorrow. We can’t recycle much in our kerbside collection so I keep a bag in the kitchen which I fill with foil, metal bottle tops, plastic milk bottle tops, plastic bags, normally gets recycled when full but at the start of lockdown I stashed one bag full in my shed, then another and another, sorted 6 bags out now, hence the full car boot. I can’t believe how much foil we get through in a year (don’t really use it for cooking, it’s just milk bottle tops and cheese triangles, takeaway containers, inner lids from soft cheese , quiche and pie foils etc.
