It's February - Fledglings are Flying (let's face it there's not much else to do).

Here we are on the February 2021 Flylady thread - this time last year we were just starting to realise that the world was going to change in a big, big way. The Fledgling threads have pulled us all together and been a great source of comfort and distraction from it all.

This is a friendly housekeeping thread based (loosely... Extremely loosely sometimes 😂) on Flylady's housekeeping system . Welcome one and all, lurkers and long-time posters alike. Join in, hang out, but above all remember you are not behind, just jump in where you are.

The beauty of Flylady is that you don't have to flatten yourself trying to get your house clean to begin the routine upkeep; the first - and only - thing she asks you to do is to shine your kitchen sink. Routines - morning, afternoon and evening - are built gradually through her Baby Steps. To those, you add a Daily Focus and a weekly area to concentrate cleaning on. By the end of a month, your whole house will have had some attention. If you miss a bit, never mind, it'll come round next month!

For this month, I'll be posting daily links to the Launch Pad on the Flylady site so you can follow the daily focus and cleaning missions. You can sign up to receive emails from Flylady, but we suggest you don't - she sends masses, which will clog up your inbox and drive you insane into the bargain.

Because this thread has been running a while, there are some acronyms we use to make life easier
S&S - swish and swipe, round the bathroom to keep it acceptable daily
LOL - load of laundry. No, we don't find washing that funny!
Ned - born of a typo, a mythical being who assists with laundry mountains
The pointy stick ----> to motivate people
PO3 - Power of 3, if you can only face a few tasks. People often find groups of 3 tasks stack up over a day!
The Naughty Corner - where we head when it's all Too Much. Usually stocked with fresh coffee, fluffy throws, delicious snacks and the opportunity to sit quietly with friends or build a blanket fort and sulk in it if you need to.

During the Pandemic, we have also been using the KCC or Keep Calm Corner, invented by long-time poster / thread leader SC. This is a regular dose of memes, questions for discussion, random trivia etc to distract us from the rest of the world. All contributions welcome!

Remember - No Fledgling Left Behind!

Sorry to hear that Butta hope you ok and everything improves.

SingToTheSky · 07/02/2021 01:05

Big hugs peanut 💖

Bit of a burst of productivity this evening as I realised I stupidly hadn’t done any of my assignment earlier in the day 🤦🏽‍♀️ So I did a bit of that, then finished the little housework challenge. I have sorted the brick box and there was sooo much other crap in there - said crap still needs sorting but that’s another day’s problem!

Really should sleep but finding it so hard to wind down for the day lately! I didn’t go outside today which I’m now regretting as we are due snow for a few days.

Night folks!

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/02/2021 05:26

butta hope you are ok lovely

Yesterday was craptacularly crap

Phone call 8.30am from vet.bring scoutcat down for 945 photo indicates abscess needs draining(couldn't have done this yesterday when dd1 could drive him?) it tie his carrier to old trolley grant with a belt and dressing gown cord and drag him at top speed on what should be best part 11/2 HR walk to wait around 15 mins(by which point hrs peed with nerves and shivering) rang them to be told that office closed due to pandemic and need go another I can't reach on foot safely with himthat's even further.hiw I managed to say I was highly disappointed but lack correct communication is beyond me,I was internally murdering them all!I told them firmly how distressed scoutcat was and it had been a 90 minuye each way walk for nothing.the offered ap Monday, which I've declined a it appears to have scabbed up today, and ive no idea if dd1 could take him then.furious doesn't cover it.i will be demanding return of my £50..
Drag poor scoutcat home.wiped him over with warm wet cloth and fed him treats and pop in basket then cover him with foil and put on radiators.he was soon purring and cosy again
I was exhausted and joints killing me.had abandon planned shop trip and eat whatever we could find for today
Slept pm for a bit
Dd,2 argumentative and difficult

Dancingtomusic · 07/02/2021 06:49

zoo- omg! What sh* the vets place are! They deserve a kick up between the legs!
Pulling a cat basket for 90mins each way is not a easy task and it scary for the cat and sounds like it was freezing for you both!
I have had to carry a cat basket for 5mins to the vet and it was very, very difficult. So the next time i made my toddler walk, baby in the double pushchair and catbasket strapped to the other side in the seat of double pushchair. It took forever to get to the vets. It was so heavy. I am glad you told Dd to come with you definately needed help with this trip! I am sorry to hear she gave you a hard time too.

I feel like shouting at the vets for you, not everyone has a car.

I am so sorry you went through this Zoo.
Sending you huge hug, warming hot chocolate with a large splash of baileys. Lot of chocolate biscuits and a sherpa blanket. A extra sherpa blanket for scoutcat and cat treats.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 07/02/2021 08:22

zoo Shock that is shocking i hope you do get your money back!

peanut hope you are all ok

sing well done on the study, i need to do some maths today (i think you asked previously if anything i was particularly struggling with, it has just become obvious at which part during my gcse years i mentally checked out and i have literally never done some of this stuff before! I should be ok if i actually give it some time as i do have quite a maths brain) but ty!

Well we have woken to no snow on the ground, disapointed DC. Forecast is now saying tonight Hmm we will see!

Ta da
🌻 wash on
🌈 dryer on
🌻 last bits of shopping away
🌈 dc 3 4 and 5 up fed and dressed
🌻 checked emails
🌈 tidied end of work top
🌻 put away coats left out

StillUpholding · 07/02/2021 08:34

Hope all is ok Butta Flowers

Oh Zoo what a monumentally shit day. Hope you and scoutcat have recovered. So frustrating for you.

Grin at your naughty hen Red.

Tidy you sound like you’re doing a great job with LOs.

I can relate to that meme Sing. Good luck with Big Discussion. Hope Cagletini’s neck is better today.

Ooh hope the second viewing went well Hazel. How exciting! I’m having a similar issue with DH regarding value of the house. We aren’t selling but will probably need to borrow more on the mortgage for the extension. House prices on our street have absolutely rocketed since we bought so he thinks we’ll be able to borrow the full amount no problem. I’m trying to convince him that we need to save as much as possible in case the mortgage company don’t agree with the value (and just because it makes much more financial sense!)

Aaah at smashed screen Waders

We have snow!! Just a very light covering this morning but it is meant to get heavier. I want a thick covering this afternoon so we can build a snowman with DD, then it all needs to melt by 6am tomorrow before my commute.

Rest of YesTaDas (sorry waders, I’ve stolen it)
✅ more tidying
✅ swept kitchen floor
✅ decluttered hall storage of DD’s outgrown hats, gloves and shoes.
✅ dusted and hoovered bedroom
✅ made a lasagne for tea, and soaked broth mix for today

Ended the day with a candle lit bubble bath and wine

Today I need to make the soup, iron work and nursery clothes, and do the rest of the dusting and floors.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 07/02/2021 08:47

Snow envy Sad

StillUpholding · 07/02/2021 08:50

Don’t be too envious. I spoke to soon and it seems to have gone Sad

foxessocks · 07/02/2021 08:58

zoo that's absolutely shocking! You poor things. I hope they give that money back straight away. And that you have all warmed up and rested.

No snow here either and we were expecting it overnight. Where is it all?! Says it should be snowing now and it's not! The kids were disappointed although they have forgotten about it now as TV has gone on 😂

foxessocks · 07/02/2021 09:03

Last night ds wet the bed after I had changed the sheets yesterday, typical! I'm never cross with him obviously but I was kicking myself for forgetting to put the waterproof sheet back on 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Still haven't put it all in the wash because I have stomach cramps this morning so haven't actually got out of bed. Having a cup of tea instead and hoping dh will get there first and sort it!

Ds is grumpy because of the interrupted sleep.

Oh zoo I am raging for you 🤬🤬🤬

SingToTheSky · 07/02/2021 13:14

Canned air?! That sounds like something DH would have sent an innocent newbie on a hunt for (tartan paint, long weight(wait) etc...) but is it basically for blowing dust out of things? It sounds rather useful!

Lazy morning since Cagletini (mostly better thank you all 💖) had a nap after an early start, DH went back to bed as he was up with her.

I have started my new meds. I don’t feel magically focused yet (not completely out of the question, they aren’t like anti depressants which can take weeks to set in IYSWIM) but no side effects etc. I’ve been feeling very nervous about it as I am desperate to feel and do better :( so fingers crossed.

Just watching the snow falling having been playing piano for a while. Should be enough for Cagletini to play in a bit when she wakes up 💖

Hope Waderhound’s eyes are ok :(

halfhope · 07/02/2021 15:07

💐 zoo and butta.

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/02/2021 15:56

wader how's your furry boys eyes now?I do super simple df banana muffins-
Mix
2tbsp oil
Tbsp soy milk
Itsp vanilla/g.cinnamon/mix spice
2bananas,mashed
2tbsp sugar of choice
Add
1cup(250ml) s.r flour
1tsp b.powder
Fold til just combined.fill 6muffins cases in tin.190oc/gas 5 20-25 mins
I sub banana with apple puree

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/02/2021 15:58

*that should've said 2tbsp soy milk.you can use nut milks but I find the higher protein of soy gives slightly better result.you can also switch the oil out for melted vitalite if preferred.i use rapeseed as not highly flavoured and has omega oils in it

Redsquirrel5 · 07/02/2021 16:07

Zoo did they know you were walking? It is atrocious that they told you the wrong thing. I would be stotting. I would be asking for a refund and finding my self a new vet ( preferably nearer or on a bus route) pronto.
Hope Scoutcat is ok.

Waders Awful I hope your DS gets that sorted. DDs DP is still in NZ or I would ask him. He has a Law degree and was working for a Law Firm before they left not sure if he will continue when they return. Hope you son can find out and challenge him. Union?
Hope Great Wader Hound eyes clear up.

Sing oh yes, long stand, glass hammer and tartan paint were our April Fool’s Day errands for school. I have DH on the Amazon trail for cheaper DW tablets.

That it was enough for me doing Maths exam when I was younger. I am good at geometry, weight and measures and algebra the rest I found difficult. Our Maths teacher spent a lot of time discussing football as the boys used to be very skilled at getting him off track. I do know a teacher that had five goes at getting a c or above for teaching. Some children found it comforting to know that we struggled with Maths at school. I was definitely the English/ Art side. Good luck with it.
Foxes ah what a nuisance. Hope it didn’t go far on the mattress.

Hazel any chance of a link to rejects. I have never been to America. They can’t all live in huge ( TV) houses!

Glad you enjoyed the Tales of Lady Penelope. Two have started laying eggs despite the cold. I think it is Lady Penelope and Persephone. Gladys is the one that lays cream eggs. Haha they would be popular wouldn’t they.

foxessocks · 07/02/2021 16:50

butta hope you are okay Flowers

I'm feeling flat today. There was much excitement about the snow this morning once it finally started but then it hasn't actually settled so we never even got out in it. The dc went out briefly in the garden but they were disappointed they can't pick it up. Then I suggested we make the chocolate cake that dd had wanted to make but they didn't want to help me, I had to make it anyway because sour cream in it and it needed using. So I got grumpy with dd, she got grumpy too, then the dc argued.

I just feel so bored of chores every day!!

Anyway, the dc are acting out books now so are happy and dh has made me a coffee and he's cooking dinner too.

Feeble ta da list
S&s bathroom
Dishwasher
2 xLOL
Made cake
Meal plan and food shop
15 mins tidying porch

Didn't do anymore in dining area, haven't mopped up cat foot prints, haven't dusted Hmm

Need to ice the cake before dh starts cooking

Sorry for whinge!

SingToTheSky · 07/02/2021 17:54

Whinge away foxes don’t blame you at all. Life is just ugh. Mega ugh. I’ve done nothing today. There was enough snow for the Caglets to play outside in for a bit. That’s about all that’s happened! I’m stuck in doomscroll mode.

foxessocks · 07/02/2021 18:36

I've done a fair amount of doom scrolling myself today!!!

One good thing was dd really enjoyed the cauliflower and chickpea satay curry dh made, I loved it and so did dh. Ds did eat all the cauliflower at least and he loved the poppadoms so at least he was happy! I'm pleased that we are finding more and more vegetarian meals that we all enjoy, we are eating less and less meat.

Unfortunately bath time is once again descending into arguments...

halfhope · 07/02/2021 18:43

As an aside, I wonder if that's why the Church was such a strong social force in the past? One is not so rudderless if one's God exerts a guiding hand and has a Great Plan No-one expects the Spanish Inquisition Waders 😁

SingToTheSky · 07/02/2021 19:12

We have had the Big Discussion. DS was pretty laid back about it (he’s got a big lego project on the go anyway) but DD1 was upset. Talked it through though and she does seem to understand. I’ve set time limits on MN and Facebook to show it’s not just about us bossing them around!

halfhope · 07/02/2021 20:11

It's the kitchen zone this week. Cupboard drawer being repaired and place needs good clean. Doing nothing else tonight as have tidied and decluttered toiletries and makeup.

SingToTheSky · 07/02/2021 20:35

I’ve not even looked at zones. I set a missions page in my bujo but as yet haven’t filled it in :o hopefully after getting accustomed to my decluttering challenge during February I will be able to add that in.

I am going to look in the kitchen for stuff to throw away now though. And clean the salad drawer.

Mc3209 · 07/02/2021 20:52

I seem to be doing home bleugh on Sundays lately.
Ta das:
💥Sorted out a Mount Washmore. Including stripping and re-making the beds.
💥Kitchen clean
💥DW rotated
💥Bathroom blitzed
💥Dusted
💥Hoovered the house
💥Organised top shelf of the bedroom wardrobe. Just a slight delay on this mission from January..
💥Mirrors cleaned
💥Mani/pedi done

Should really try to stick to missions a bit better this week.
