It's February - Fledglings are Flying (let's face it there's not much else to do).

Here we are on the February 2021 Flylady thread - this time last year we were just starting to realise that the world was going to change in a big, big way. The Fledgling threads have pulled us all together and been a great source of comfort and distraction from it all.

This is a friendly housekeeping thread based (loosely... Extremely loosely sometimes 😂) on Flylady's housekeeping system . Welcome one and all, lurkers and long-time posters alike. Join in, hang out, but above all remember you are not behind, just jump in where you are.

The beauty of Flylady is that you don't have to flatten yourself trying to get your house clean to begin the routine upkeep; the first - and only - thing she asks you to do is to shine your kitchen sink. Routines - morning, afternoon and evening - are built gradually through her Baby Steps. To those, you add a Daily Focus and a weekly area to concentrate cleaning on. By the end of a month, your whole house will have had some attention. If you miss a bit, never mind, it'll come round next month!

For this month, I'll be posting daily links to the Launch Pad on the Flylady site so you can follow the daily focus and cleaning missions. You can sign up to receive emails from Flylady, but we suggest you don't - she sends masses, which will clog up your inbox and drive you insane into the bargain.

Because this thread has been running a while, there are some acronyms we use to make life easier
S&S - swish and swipe, round the bathroom to keep it acceptable daily
LOL - load of laundry. No, we don't find washing that funny!
Ned - born of a typo, a mythical being who assists with laundry mountains
The pointy stick ----> to motivate people
PO3 - Power of 3, if you can only face a few tasks. People often find groups of 3 tasks stack up over a day!
The Naughty Corner - where we head when it's all Too Much. Usually stocked with fresh coffee, fluffy throws, delicious snacks and the opportunity to sit quietly with friends or build a blanket fort and sulk in it if you need to.

During the Pandemic, we have also been using the KCC or Keep Calm Corner, invented by long-time poster / thread leader SC. This is a regular dose of memes, questions for discussion, random trivia etc to distract us from the rest of the world. All contributions welcome!

Remember - No Fledgling Left Behind!

Up reporting for duty (with a slight change of name)

Thanks for the lovely new thread ED

Love the new name IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders. May I call you Waders? Or would you prefer Great?

Can't believe it's February already. Where does the time go?! Waders thank you for January's thread, and ED thanks for taking up February.

I am just resurfacing back, have been flying under the radar recently.
Dancing how did your appointment go? I hope you feel better soon.
That a pass is most definitely a pass. You are a super woman.
Zoo fingers crossed your new implementations do the trick with zoolets.
Hazel I am sorry skiing wasn't as fun as you hoped. I am generally OK with cross country skiing, courtesy of school drills when I was very young, but never actually tried skiing downhill. When mctiny is older, we are planning to start it as a regular kind of thing (DH can ski very well), so I am hoping I will be able to pick it up with lessons. Failing that, I will chanel the 'Fabulous Mama' and wait for my boys in a cafe with a view and glass of wine in hand 🤣
Sing I hope that test for DH is negative.

Ta das today:
💥Kitchen blitzed
💥Bathroom blitzed
💥lol x2
💥Beds stripped and remade
💥Dusted the whole house
💥Hoovered the whole house

What are you all planning to do for Valentines? I am thinking of making it a little special this year (I feel like I am sidelining DH in favour of mctiny) and looking for ideas.

halfhope · 31/01/2021 23:56

Oohh apres ski sounds great MC! MrHalfHope and I are together 28 years tomorrow. Married 20 years in June. I was in a tutorial at Uni with a mature student and she was in a different tutorial group with MrHalfhope. She said to her husband one night 'I think I'll introduce these two' and he said 'for God's sake leave the kids alone and stop matchmaking!'. She ignored him and accidentally on purpose introduced us at a coffee station in Uni. I invited him for lunch and I just knew. This was in 1992 - it took a year to get together because he was shy and focussed on his work but eventually he asked me out formally on 1 Feb 93. First day of Spring in Ireland.

Redsquirrel5 · 01/02/2021 00:35

😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭I just lost my long post. I hadn’t noticed battery and it went phttt.

Thank you for thread leading Woolly and new thread ED going to hide in corner with a blanket over me until tomorrow.🥴

SingToTheSky · 01/02/2021 00:57

Thanks for the new aptly named thread ED!

And thanks to Woolly of course for the brilliant start to the 2021 threads. A fabulous thread which got us through a really rough month!

I’m up with the smallest Caglet. Let the big two stay up but I think DS is asleep now. DD1 will need to get on with work tomorrow but I don’t think I’ll get DS to do much if anything - he’s got one more space in his book to do a word of the day, and maybe some maths, but it’s so tough when Cagletini is home. I’ve got my alarm set to let school know we are SI.

HazelNuttyElf · 01/02/2021 01:05

Thank you for January thread glittery/ waders love the new name
Thank you ED for February thread
mc DD was trying to teach us how to ski, but she hasn't taught anymore before, what she did teach us worked for me, until I would try to turn, go too fast and fall. I just could not get up for the life of me, had to have help.
Red I hate it when that happens
hope happy anniversary! That's such a lovely story of how you got together as well

Ta Das:
🐧 skyped DM
🐧 Grocery shopping
🐧 DH sorted out fridge and took a lot out of it, including a roast that we'd forgotten about (only ate half of it 😳)
🐧 All of the laundry got done, a total of 5 LOLs done today 🙌
🐧 Treated sideboard with a dark wood oil (has a stain in it for scratches) I like the results!
🐧 Rotated DW but not started it yet

I'm currently taking a break before starting dinner. It's nice to put my feet up for a few minutes.

SingToTheSky · 01/02/2021 02:31

Loving all the name changes, and the lovely origin story of MrandMrsHope!

I need to just go to sleep, but I appear to be watching Miranda despite the fact DD1 went up to bed after the one episode we planned to watch. DH is no better so I’m sleeping downstairs although I need to collect the duvet - he’s roasting hot currently whereas I’m freezing as always 😂

I have officially declared tomorrow as Sunday 1.1, because no. Just no.

PeanutButtaCups · 01/02/2021 03:52

Hiya, up super late tonight. Elijah is poorly, I think it’s just a cold, he has a slight temp but that’s gone down after some calpol. We’ve made a bed on the sofa and are cuddling up watching Thomas the tank. Elijah is under the blankets somewhere😂. Will say thank you waders for last months thread and thank you ED for this months!

dancing I’m sorry about the stress but it seems like you’ve got a good system in place now regarding the books. Are the school aware that you’re struggling and if so is there any way they could help you out?. Just seen that you said you haven’t contacted the school, maybe that could be a thing to consider if you’re still struggling, it’s nothing to feel embarrassed about!. I think you’re doing brilliantly btw, I have no idea how you do it!. Thank you about the kitchen!. I hope you’re appointment went okay.

hope I can’t believe how fast it’s gone! I also can’t believe this pandemic has gone on that long that I’ve practically had 2 babies in it!.

Sorry to hear DS is so anxious zoo, great list and 😂 at your autocorrect slip up!. Family games/time and a walk sounds like a good idea, I hope it goes well!

Sorry skiing didn’t go too well hazel, lessons sounds like a good idea if it’s something your DS wants to stick at though!.

THAT a pass is brilliant in my eyes, that’s all you need to do and if that’s the best you can do then brilliant!. I am glad to be in this stage of pregnancy now, the heavy bump and indigestion isn’t great but I’ll take it over the horrible sicky exhausting first trimester!

ED my kitchen is full of clutter too usually, the flat is so small and it’s the only place with a lot of table tops so everything just gets thrown on there. I’m going to try and stop that though (will last 2 days!)

sing glad to hear the big sleep helped a bit! Definitely don’t feel guilty for today, sometimes it’s what is needed, especially in times like this!

waders it is getting exciting now! I can’t wait to see what this little one is like. They both have different dads, and Elijah is the image of his father (he looks nothing like me, not even one feature, it’s quite annoying) so I wonder whether they’ll look alike at all or be completely different!. Sorry you’re also struggling with Groundhog Day! That thread sounds horrific!

Oh thanks merry! It sounds like we have similar taste 😊. I’m pretty happy with my kitchen, I wasn’t given a huge amount to work with and as it’s a council I can’t do big changes, but it does the job!. The ancestry stuff sounds so interesting!. All my family are just Irish, I think a few moved to America/Australia in the potato famine but other than that it’s just Irish. My great nan moved to England with her kids in the 60’s and that’s where we all are now!. I do sort of wish I’d have been from Ireland though, I’ve been there a few times and it’s gorgeous.

Sorry you’re having a difficult time hills, be kind to yourself💐

I hope you enjoy your bath and wine up!

THAT sorry about the other thread, I try to stay off quite a few now as they can turn so bitter!.

mc No valentines plans here! But possibly a meal/movie night with DH could be good. Make it a bit more fancy than usual, with some valentines snacks etc.

hope that’s a lovely story on how you met! Happy anniversary!

Sorry about losing the post red!! That’s so frustrating.

Ta da’s are non existent really, I’m convincing myself it’s because it’s the weekend, but really it’s because I’m lazy!

It's February - Fledglings are Flying (let's face it there's not much else to do).
MrsTidyHouse · 01/02/2021 06:45

Thank you for friends and flowers.

Today feels as though it could be better. LOs were later than usual to bed, and fingers crossed will sleep later this morning, giving me a more peaceful start to the day. First thing is wash dishes from yesterday, and plan meals.

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/02/2021 07:05

Morning all.thanks for pulling dragging me us all to get thru Januarywaders and thanks for taking on February
Big list already but loads to do and need wake some zoolets and remind of implementation of WiFi restrictions!

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/02/2021 07:56

Thanks for the new thread ED Thank you for the old threads

SingToTheSky · 01/02/2021 07:56

I normally say “how is it [x month] already” but ATM I can well believe it, I think every single day of January made itself well known this year 🤬

I forgot to turn off the nursery alarms, and then we got an automated spam phone call on the landline which stopped me dozing off 🤬 so I’m going to leave a message with school now rather than at 8.15 so I can turn the other alarm off.

StillUpholding · 01/02/2021 08:35

Ow Zoo! Good luck with implementation of new rules.

Hope Elijah is feeling better this morning butta

Sorry about your earlier than planned wake up Sing. I forgot to turn off my work alarm so was woken at 5. Thankfully DD stayed asleep and I dozed back off again quickly.

Happy Anniversary of official asking out Hope! What a lovely story. DH and I have been together 13 years officially but we had a few dates a year or two before that. He’s one of the few blokes to have escaped the friend zone Grin

Mc one of our favourite restaurants is doing a fancy valentines take out menu so I think we are going to treat ourselves to that. Might be worth seeing if there’s anywhere near you doing that?

Ta Das this morning:
🌸 LOL in
🌸 emptied DW and stuck in last nights glasses and snack plates
🌸 15 mins yoga
🌸 fed cats, DD and myself
🌸 burgers extracted from freezer for tea

Today I’m aiming to spend most of the day with DD as I’ve kept her off nursery, with only short bursts of flying if she’s playing happily independently.

SingToTheSky · 01/02/2021 08:45

Eeek 5am alarm is no fun! Glad you got back to sleep. I’m still in bed (well, my makeshift bed downstairs with Cagletini next to me) and nobody else is awake.

Couldn’t even find my book yesterday to read?! 🧐

Message left with school - hopefully they do check the absence messages, I’m surprised they haven’t changed the recorded message TBH since they’re shut for at least 2 months total this time. Don’t need to phone nursery as I let them know on Friday. Please keep everything crossed for a result soon, but I’m not even sure if DH has had confirmation it’s been received yet?! I thought we did when DS was tested, but maybe I’m misremembering.

SingToTheSky · 01/02/2021 10:09

Covid negative! Woooo!

SingToTheSky · 01/02/2021 10:20

I’m very relieved Cagletini can go back to nursery tomorrow (have also just told DD1 but I think it’s a bit late to go in now until 12.20) and that we won’t have to ask anyone to get us food (no delivery slots until 8th).

Also sliiiiightly sad I have to get back to normal and can’t just slob out completely for the next week 😂 but I know it’s a good thing as the stir craziness set in really fast this time.

Guess I should think about doing stuff, then.

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/02/2021 10:33

Yay singhope whatever is troubling DH he feels better soon

I have shoots of crocuses in the garden now❤️

SingToTheSky · 01/02/2021 10:34

Thanks zoo he has surfaced this morning and seems a bit better, no idea what it was as the rest of us have been fine except Cagletini has a dodgy tummy.

Still having an easy day today though, no danger of overdoing it here 😂
