Things you wash in the dishwasher

Recently I've become the proud new owner of a dishwasher.

I'm after suggestions of things you use it for - so far, I've put glass candle lanterns in (there's no wax on them), and my oven racks to rid of the loose bits before I scrub them. Anything else it's good for?

Wouldn't want to be without a dishwasher.

I don't own anything that doesn't go it. Even bought smaller glasses do they fit well.

Have a search on MN for salmon cooked in the dish washer. Oh and flavoured vodka.

I do find though that anything that needs to be scrubbed, it's better to do so before going through a dish washer cycle. Things tend to get baked on once they have been through a cycle.

What's of really like is two dish washers. One dirty to fill, the other clean to use. Genius.

I wash the dog’s bowls and toys in it.

NoodieRoodie · 05/01/2021 14:08

Kitchen bin, I take out the top rack, it fits and comes out beautifully clean

Just because an item has a specific name don't be 'tunneled' into thinking you can only wash' dishes in a dishwasher'.
You can put your crocs into it. They come up very clean. You can put your loo brush and hairbrushes into it. Children's plastic toys clean and sanitise in a dishwasher.
You can poach salmon and chicken if you wrap them up carefully. I am always interested in finding new ways to utilise everyday items such as this. I find my dishwasher indispensable.

I put the drawer from the washing machine where you put the powder and soap into ours

HUCKMUCK · 05/01/2021 14:15

People will be on here frothing shortly about all the pet bowls and toilet brushes.

I stick all sorts in mine.

For the life of me I can't get my drawer out to do this. I have tried pulling but think it may break
isitjustifyable · 05/01/2021 14:18

@changedmynameforChristmas is there a little bit you press down to unhinge it?

TheQueef · 05/01/2021 14:18

Don't poach salmon in it.
I wash my 👓 specs Grin

TheQueef · 05/01/2021 14:20

Fridge shelves too.

Turnedouttoes · 05/01/2021 14:24

@changedmynameforChristmas ours you have to push down on the bit above the fabric conditioner compartment and then give it a yank. It did take me a while to work out how to get ours out

Stationfork · 05/01/2021 14:25

Lego/playmobil

movingonup20 · 05/01/2021 14:28

Brilliant for most things but I did balk at my friend having the dog bowls and the baby bottles in it at the same time, her kids isn't being harmed by it though

Changi · 05/01/2021 14:32

My husband has admitted washing engine parts in ours. Hmm

I have arrived! Honestly at a push the dogs bowl but why do people do this with the loo brushes??? Is it not really a trick to make gullible people stick their loo brush in the dishwasher Shock
changedmynameforChristmas · 05/01/2021 14:39

There is no bastard hinge on my washer drawer :)
I put the ironware from my gas cooker in mine - the things you place your pans on etc

SingleHandSue · 05/01/2021 14:43

I clean the extractor fan filters in mine, and put the plastic dish drainer in regularly to keep it hygienic.

KeepOnKeepingOnKeepingOn · 05/01/2021 15:21

Great suggestions thanks everyone Smile

MrsPerfect12 · 05/01/2021 23:59

Yeah defo the loo brush isn't for real 🤮😂😂😂

DramaAlpaca · 06/01/2021 00:05

Loo brush in the dishwasher? Shock That's utterly disgusting.

Veuvestar · 06/01/2021 00:11

Dishcloth and brush

Jocasta2018 · 06/01/2021 00:11

When my dishwasher still worked, my ancient tea pot would go in. Decades of tea stains vanished in a quick cycle! Fantastic.

PandaBabyJuly · 06/01/2021 00:14

The High chair from IKEA goes in it

TheSandman · 06/01/2021 00:23

They are bloody brilliant for washing Lego and other hard kids toys.
