Things you wash in the dishwasher

Recently I've become the proud new owner of a dishwasher.

I'm after suggestions of things you use it for - so far, I've put glass candle lanterns in (there's no wax on them), and my oven racks to rid of the loose bits before I scrub them. Anything else it's good for?

I put washing up sponges in it, seems like a good way to clean them.
@changedmynameforChristmas I might try putting the ironware in, did it get scratched at all?
@SingleHandSue I might do that with the fan filters, cleaned one and it took ages so this could save a lot of time.

I would not put any toilet stuff in there, I have read (probably on here) about someone putting a kids toilet seat in the dishwasher Envy (not envy!)

Vases

PigletJohn · 06/01/2021 00:52

Plastic toys that have been handled and sucked before bagging them up to pass on.

Waste and trap from under the sink.

Chrome taps.

bluebellscorner · 06/01/2021 00:57

Fan filter. That’s about it.

I’d never put the cat’s bowl in it. I’d never put anything from the bathroom in it, surely the person who says they put the toilet brush in there cannot be serious!

I did read about someone who put the toilet seat in the dishwasher, not sure if they were joking (I hope they were...)

PigletJohn · 06/01/2021 01:14

How many separate kitchen sinks do you have, then?

tobee · 06/01/2021 01:18

I love my dishwasher. I've put little plastic stools in mine.

However, there are lots of things that claim to be dishwasher safe that aren't. Eg non stick baking trays and non stick frying pans. But other similar things are fine Confused

yuyubooboo · 06/01/2021 01:19

What's this about poached salmon?

CanWeHaveSnow · 06/01/2021 01:21

@changedmynameforChristmas

Toilet brush?????

Your kidding!!!!! Right?

CanWeHaveSnow · 06/01/2021 01:23

At nursery, we use to put a hell of alot of toys / equipment through the dishwasher during a deep clean.
Was so much quicker and easier

SquirtleSquad · 06/01/2021 01:23

Dishwasher salmon is a real thing. Lots of recipes online Grin haven't tried it myself..

As for toilet brushes Envy

WTF0ver · 06/01/2021 01:29

I am also a new dishwasher owner! It came with the house. Following with interest. Can you stick a plastic hairbrush (tangle teezer) in it or will it ruin it?

EstellaHanclay · 06/01/2021 01:50

Another new dishwasher owner here. Just had mine fitted today, I'm soooo excited to try it out tomorrow. First time I've ever had one!

namechangetoxyz · 06/01/2021 01:51

just remember Dishwasher SAFE really means it won't damage your dishwasher but the item may be damaged/altered in some way, eg glasses go cloudy, non-stick can come off, cutlery can get rust spots, knives can blunt.

soft boiled eggs cook in a sealed kilner jar with water for about 30 mins on intensive

RickiTarr · 06/01/2021 01:53

Compost caddy, soap dishes, pet bowls, toothbrush holder.

This always gets competitively gross, though. Butt plugs are bound to get a mention eventually.

TheSandman · 06/01/2021 12:25

I also only put half a washing tab in my machine. I live in a fairly softwater area and half a tab gets everything just as clean as a whole tab at half the cost.

TheQueef · 06/01/2021 12:30

Aldi cheap dishwasher tabs are good.
Don't fiddle with the flap just lob it in cutlery dispenser.

DidIMissSomething · 06/01/2021 12:46

I'd second using it to clean the fridge - game changer for me as I hate struggling with the unwieldy bits in the sink - means it's easy to include a fridge clean in my Thursday half hour TOMM kitchen clean too.

Nonamesavail · 06/01/2021 23:14

Cleaning the fridge
Bins
I have put pet bowls in too

minipie · 06/01/2021 23:30

Mooncup ...

Vargas · 06/01/2021 23:35

Washing up brush/sponge/cloth. Dish drainer. Toothbrush holders.

I like the washing machine drawer idea, might try that.

Edgeoftheledge · 06/01/2021 23:38

Toilet brushes and crocs🤮

Edgeoftheledge · 06/01/2021 23:42

Mooncup also🤮

Pet bowls yes

To be honest, mines on 2-3 times a day so don’t have anytime to put mire in

Gingangoolee · 06/01/2021 23:46

Make up brushes and eyelash curlers (after I remove the rubber bit)

Edgeoftheledge · 06/01/2021 23:50

Toothbrushes

Quornflakegirl · 06/01/2021 23:57

Fab for sex toys, dildos come out super clean.
