Fledglings Continue Carolling - December thread 2: the one with Christmas Eve Eve and beyond!

Hello all, here’s an overflow thread as we’ve all been a right bunch of chatterboxes. I’d love to pretend that’s because we’ve all been doing even more housework, but, well... no. I think it’s probably because we’ve all found support with each other - I’m taking this opportunity to thank you all for a lovely December, it’s got me through a lot of stress and boredom and loneliness during isolation especially! 💖

Any newbies or lurkers - do join in! We are a long running thread with lots of regulars and we might seem cliquey but we honestly love having new Fledglings join us. I’m posting FlyLady links for a couple more days and then we will be back to Proper Flying Resolutions in January!

Hi everyone, just caught up but only the last page or 2 so sorry if I've missed anything. Wow that I hope you're doing okay, and are taking some time to process this , congratulations (not sure if that's the right thing to say so sorry and fine if you're not ready to be congratulated yet!)

We never really do much at New year's anyway but I understand what you mean zoo about a continuation rather than a new start, although I'm very hopeful the vaccination news will start to improve things so I am trying to focus on spring time approaching etc...I think it's fine to be negative or positive or somewhere in between at the moment, it's a very difficult time.

I've been decluttering over the last few days , I've decluttered all my clothes and taken several bags to the clothes bank, also decluttered the hats and gloves basket in the porch. So definitely making some progress but not entirely back into the swing of things yet. Went for a lovely long walk yesterday which definitely helped stop me feeling fed up.

Dd school is closed but ds nursery will be open so he will be going back on Monday. This feels very strange to me, and we have been in two minds about sending him back. However, I really, really struggle to do my job while both kids are home let alone also trying to do any work with dd. So I think I will send him. He also really, really wants to go back. Dd does too but at the moment she's seeing it as extra holiday, she'll be fed up as soon as she realises she has to work but won't see her friends Sad

Morning all,

Still not certain whether my two will be back at school next week or not, we are awaiting confirmation. They are not years 11 and 13 but both fall into other categories that should be allowed back. DS is conflicted, he loves school and is desperate to get back but worried about Covid, we had a long discussion last night. DD is fine either way but getting very tired of SI now.

We have been having a total lazy week, sometimes I just need a break. Jigsaws, telly, the odd walk, crochet. Laundry and the kitchen are being kept on top of, everything else can wait a bit. Tonight we are planning our usual NYE of pizza, board games and a film. I don't particularly enjoy NYE, the telly is shite, it all feels a bit "enforced jollity".

SingToTheSky · 31/12/2020 11:01

It is a very weird end to the year isn’t it. I normally feel a bit more resolve but it’s hard to know when there is so much uncertainty.

Thinking about resolutions, mine is mainly to start using the bujo as that encompasses various very small gentle goals. And I particularly liked the resolution in that video hills shared - the one about always being able to start over if you need. I can be very black and white about things like that and I need to be kinder to myself about just dusting myself off and trying again if I lapse with something.

I’m not sure if DD1 can technically attend school again. She doesn’t have an EHCP but was allowed with the back up of our family support worker (who has since closed our case) due to being autistic and our health issues etc. But by the end of June she was hating it TBH so I’m not sure if we would ask this time. Part time may be an option too which she may see the benefit of this time round (she can be very black and white. I wonder where she gets that from?).

DH has phoned the HA again. Boiler dripping again and heating/hot water not working this morning. AGAIN. They are apparently sending someone out. Frankly I’m hoping they’ll just replace the bloody thing this time but I’m also aware that might mean waiting an awfully long time due to staffing issues. Fucksake.

Hi Foxes, woolly and Ed,
Here at fraggle rock we never do anything new years eve. I used to work with children so I was always ill around this time of year. Plus I need to sleep. Some years I have been randomly awake around midnight to say Happy New Year.
Its comforting to know others feel a similar way.

Foxes I too was hoping our primary school would stay closed for a few extra days, as I am abit scared to send them in. But I will be sending them in as normal when school opens.

Ta da...
⚡ I played snakes and ladders with the fraggles for the 1st time! They understood what to do and loved it! It was a quick 10min game. I dont normally do this as I am normally stressed about the house. I thought it would hit the counting and maths things in year one. Yay I did a fun mum thing.

Sing i keep forgetting to say, when you used to write about using a sleep tracker or a swimming tracker I thought you meant something on your phone. I understand now you meant bujo journal tracker. ( Ahhh light bulb moment!)

SingToTheSky · 31/12/2020 11:31

In the past I was keeping track of swimming distance on my phone (I’ve never tried to track sleep, I’m still not sure how to?! Maybe I’ll just put the time I get into bed?) so it was sort of digital!

Boiler man has been and gone, replaced yet another part so fingers crossed that’s it now!

glittery we also have a carrot situation, I forgot to get any, I think I have some frozen carrots but they aren't very nice...
Thank you for offering to do January thread by the way Smile

Sing glad boiler is working again, hope it lasts this time

I'm still in a very irritable mood, not helped by the dust levels now in the house (which I should have been fully prepared for but I still hate it!) Dh is going to remove about 3 kitchen cupboards today as well so I really need to declutter and find some space. But mostly I'm just in that mood where I just want everyone to leave me alone and not talk to me 😂

Perhaps some lunch will help 🤔

HillsBesideTheSea · 31/12/2020 12:10

lots of ways to track sleep sing will post some examples later for you

SingToTheSky · 31/12/2020 12:35

Thanks hills! I do have one of those Fitbit type things which apparently tracks sleep but I’m not sure how accurate it is. I stopped using it for now as it was shortly after it arrived that I had to self isolate and it would be depressing barely counting any steps 😂 one thing I do want to track though is whether I have good sleep hygiene - mainly whether I resist having Netflix on in the background, which I do often especially when really anxious/low mood, but then it becomes habit again very easily.

Very lazy day here! Not sure if any of us will go out for a walk 😳 I’m mainly reading. DS is on a two day console/YouTube ban due to sneaking onto games late last night 🙄 so we will have to have some more old fashioned fun this evening, probably watching a movie and playing the other games I got for Christmas hopefully, but as usual it depends how Cagletini sleeps as it’s all been a bit messed up again since Christmas!

Up interested to see how your purchases go! I marked my place on that thread but still haven’t dared read it 💸💸💸 :o

zoo sorry to hear of all the bad moods at your house ☹️

I have sat down with a cup of tea with intentions of doing some planning for tomorrow but I haven't got very far. I think I'm feeling a bad combination of hormonal and overwhelmed by the kitchen becoming a building site. Problem is dh is doing it on his own so it is going to take a really long time, I will just have to get used to it!

Ta das
Dishwasher emptied / reloaded
Washing up
Recycling out
Played ds new board game with him and dd (twice)
Dusted piano and TV table
Wiped kitchen sides and hob (pointlessly as it turns out as dh has messed it up again 😂)
Emptied one kitchen cupboard and stored contents upstairs in various boxes
Moved contents of baking cupboard into now empty cupboard
Moved contents of cleaning cupboard to under the sink
Dh has now dismantled quite a few kitchen cupboards, I now have a huge shopping bag of pasta (turns out I was stockpiling spaghetti without realising!!) , a big pile of tins on top of the fridge and the cat food is living on the windowsill. I suppose at least I don't have to bother even trying to keep the kitchen tidy anymore...
Washing on
Made scrambled eggs for me and dd and a fried egg sandwich for ds

Tonight we are having pizzas and nibbles and the kids are organising some kind of disco / light show 🤔 I was more hoping for a quiet movie night!

I haven't really thought about any new years resolutions. I don't think I'm in the right frame of mind currently.

foxessocks · 31/12/2020 14:03

Huge congratulations sherin!!! Beautiful 💖

HillsBesideTheSea · 31/12/2020 14:09

One cutie right there Sherin congratulations.

foxes there is no rule resolutions for the year have to be made on Jan 1st. IN fact the only resolution i have ever stuck to is that i don't make new years resolutions until the 1st feb, I fine it takes the pressure off and i am more likely to succeed. January is for figuring out what the resolutions might be but not acting on them iyswim.

I understand the building woes. Tis the worst, Sorry lovely. Hope you are able to survive them.

I just swept the cars free from snow. Only did it because if we go anywhere it will be emergency atm, and when snow melts and then freezes it is an absolute bugger to get lose. Forgot my gloves though so i now have perfectly cold hand for making pastry - but i need to make bread Hmm

ExpensivelyDecorated · 31/12/2020 14:10

A New Year baby! Congratulations Sherin, he's gorgeous. Thank you for taking the time to post Flowers.

HillsBesideTheSea · 31/12/2020 14:11

hands i do have more than one is it bedtime? Can it bedtime already?

Tinselette · 31/12/2020 14:18

Sorry I've been AWOL. I come to bear homage to Reuben - well done Sherrin. A good weight too. He's beautiful 🥰. About the best thing about 2020...

SherinMummyof2 · 31/12/2020 14:36

Thank you everyone, I’m so happy. I probably won’t be on much whilst I enjoy this newborn bubble. Happy New Year to you all!.

SingToTheSky · 31/12/2020 14:38

Much love to you all sherin we are here whenever you want to pop in (will be a new thread by tomorrow) enjoy all the snuggles!

Resolutions in February is an excellent idea hills!

TheUpholder · 31/12/2020 14:56

Congratulations Sherin! What a gorgeous little boy. Hope you’re recovering well.

Sorry you’re feeling a bit out of sorts Foxes. It’s understandable though, go easy on yourself and try and relax. You’ll be fighting a losing battle keeping the kitchen nice but it will be worth the upheaval when it’s all finished and lovely.

Zoo no suggestions for the oven other than to try a different screw. Is it a really important one? I lost one cleaning my old oven once and I just put up with a bit of a wobbly door until we moved about 5 years later

Sing fingers crossed for an end to the boiler saga. The candle lighter featured heavily on that thread and I’m definitely a fan!

Marble run is fab Woolly!. I was looking at similar for DN, think I’ll go for it next year.

We had a brisk chilly walk this morning which was nice, we’ve also played pairs and we are now watching the live action beauty and the beast. I have managed some ta das though:
🎊 beds made
🎊s&s upstairs
🎊LOL in
🎊DW set off
🎊hand washed new glass jars
🎊wrote on existing jars with glass pen. It works.
🎊tidied out two kitchen cupboards incorporating new baskets
🎊new baskets in fridge, all cleaned and tidied.

Rest of the house is still a bit of a tip but at least I have organised cupboards Grin

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/12/2020 15:40
