Fledglings Continue Carolling - December thread 2: the one with Christmas Eve Eve and beyond!

SingToTheSky · 23/12/2020 11:54

Hello all, here’s an overflow thread as we’ve all been a right bunch of chatterboxes. I’d love to pretend that’s because we’ve all been doing even more housework, but, well... no. I think it’s probably because we’ve all found support with each other - I’m taking this opportunity to thank you all for a lovely December, it’s got me through a lot of stress and boredom and loneliness during isolation especially! 💖

Any newbies or lurkers - do join in! We are a long running thread with lots of regulars and we might seem cliquey but we honestly love having new Fledglings join us. I’m posting FlyLady links for a couple more days and then we will be back to Proper Flying Resolutions in January!

Its amazing. Thank you for sharing it.

I didnt even know what bujo meant.

HillsBesideTheSea · 28/12/2020 22:15

Youtube is a worm hole of bujo videos Dancing none that are mine personally. but i have a number of youtubers who bujo that i follow. It is a different pace to the other videos i watch.

SingToTheSky · 28/12/2020 22:35

I find them so calming and inspiring. I’ve not got round to setting up yet but I have more of a clear idea of what to start with. At least tier 4 has streamlined it somewhat as there’s no point in having gym and swimming trackers for example 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sausage stew was nice and I’ve just used up some manky bananas by attempting to make a banana Nutella loaf cake. I’m finding baking a lot less daunting lately, here’s hoping it works!

Hiya! It snowed here today, and really heavy too!. It’s forecast for the next 3 days!. We met up with my DM (in my support bubble) at the park near her and the kids went on their sledges. The last time we had heavy snow was 3 years ago, so it’s the first time the DC have really been in snow. They loved it!. I’m ready for bed now though. They’ve been crazy today, lots of Christmas sweets and chocolates have been consumed and the snow has added to the excitement. I need to get some things for when the DC go back to school, DD has already grown out of her school shirts so I need to get her some. Costs a bloody fortune!

Thank you for my welcome ED, I’m glad to hear that you’re feeling less flat, it has been a funny Christmas this year. The bathroom rack looks brilliant!

up I’m glad DH at least apologised with a cuppa!.

Thank you for posting the acronyms sing! Well done on submitting the assignment!. It’s nice that you feel relaxed, I like the period between Christmas and new year just to chill and enjoy the new presents. That’s really annoying about IKEA, at least it’s fixed now!

It sounds like you had a nice day yesterday bower glad you got to have a chat with your friend. I love your tree!.

Thank you for my welcome hazel it sounds like you’ve had a lovely Christmas period.

Thank you for my welcome that, sorry about the teething DC!

Thanks for my welcome wooly I hope your bath is fixed, and I love the marble run! You’ve had a really productive day!

Thank you for my welcome sc I’m also struggling to get out of the holiday mind set! It sounds like you had a lovely relaxing Christmas. I love your tree!

ED Good idea on making notes on your recipes, we always end up with too much here too.

foxes you’re not alone with finding it difficult getting back into the swing of things! I really need to shake up or else I’ll find it really difficult when the kids go back so school!. Well done on being productive today!

dancing I hope you managed to get some rest!

hills it sounds like you’re doing well with getting rid of the mice, I hope you’re able to find them!.

ta da
Hoovered under sofa cushions (disgusted with how dirty they had got)

SingToTheSky · 29/12/2020 00:04

Sing that cake looks yummy 😍
Hills sending you strength and coffee, ploughing through study backlog is a slog. You will ace it though!
Woolly what a pain with the leaks, and especially over festive season. I admire your DIY skills with smoke alarms!
Strawberry I refuse to get out of the festive mood until 8th of Jan!
Spring nothing like a rotten mammal smell in the lead up to Christmas 😂 I am glad it disappeared in time for the day itself.

Miracle has happened in our household. DH has changed a diaper overnight! 😱

Ta da from yesterday:
🎉Hoovered downstairs and stairs
🎉Lol X1. Since having a baby, it's laundry galore in here. Especially with reusable wipes.
🎉Cleaned kitchen
🎉Watered half of the indoor plants
🎉Went for a walk. It was a lovely, frosty and crisp day.

Ta didn't:

  • home bleugh. Hopefully will get to it today.

To do:

  • excavate bedside table...

But right now, I am going to have a wee nap.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/12/2020 07:45

Re studying i have done nothing for weeks. I think i will have to drop one of my uni modules which is shit but i just havent got it in me atm.

woolly well done on the DIY

sing thats awful of ikea 🙄 i would be FUMING

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/12/2020 07:47

< pat on the head for mrmc >

(Has to be regular occurance for a ⭐)

SingToTheSky · 29/12/2020 10:27

Morning all :)

Ah that it would be a shame to have to stop one of the modules but worth it if it means you can do better on the other? These are exceptional times, it’s not surprising it’s been hard to keep up with the workload 💐

I am still undecided about keeping the decorations up for now. I think I’ll ask the Caglets if they’d like them down before NYE, or if they’d like to take them down around the 1st or leave until the 6th (that’s my limit :o)

DH has shedloads of phone calls to make and will be venturing to the shops for the first time since Christmas Eve. We are obviously avoiding this even more now, we are both pretty forgetful though and it’s far too easy to just pop down to the shops as they’re so close (town is about 17min walk and we have a huge Asda and a small tesco even closer). But we are so done with being in shops even without tier 4. So now when we do really need to go in (pharmacy) we will make a list to make sure everything else is done in one trip.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 29/12/2020 11:25

We popped to the shops this morning sing to do a return / click and collect and also get something for my mum's birthday and it was so quiet everywhere. I want to take my decorations down because they are gathering dust but dh wants to do it bit by bit because he thinks it will be too much of a shock in one go! Our outside decorations are already down because of the storm the other night.

Dh is at his work again this morning still painting the steel beam but I think he's nearly done now. The kitchen is still a complete mess but I guess I have to get used to that! I'm going to give it all a wipe over after my coffee though. Partly because my coffee machine randomly fell apart when I was using it just now so there's coffee granules everywhere...it's working fine again now thank goodness!

I am still finding it very tough to get motivated!

ExpensivelyDecorated · 29/12/2020 11:27

I haven't been to a shop since the 23rd, although I think DH might have popped into M&S the other day as he did walk into town. I've got click and collect later from Sainsburys but not planning to go inside. I feel so sorry for the small shops having to close again.

I'm feeling a bit wobbly again today. DD is still OK with 4 days to go of SI which is good, but it is weird seeing so little of her (she emerged from her room for a couple of hours last night which was nice). The uncertainty over schools going back, the uncertainty of how long Tier 4 is going to last, the lack of anything to look forward to outside the home, the prospect of possibly having to WFH home again from next week. We are having nice times at home, watching telly together etc but I am worried about the effect all this is going to have on the DCs.

Sing - that cake look yummy!

Bower - we do like all the components of pavlova but I've never actually made one. We never stay at the table for pudding after Christmas Dinner, once we've cleared the table we tend to wander off to the living room and not think about pudding till a few hours later, so it's very much an afterthought and tends to be a bit of Christmas pudding, or ice cream, or nothing at all. We aren't big pudding eaters generally, we have a proper pudding at the table maybe once every couple of months. It's yet another one of those things were there are only about two options that everyone in the family likes. We still haven't touched the Christmas pudding, it is just sitting on the side on the kitchen, I probably shouldn't have bothered making it with no guests to help eat it.

That - shame about the module, will you pick it up again later? Probably better to give yourself breathing space now.

foxessocks · 29/12/2020 12:42

Ed i feel the same about the uncertainty Sad

Gah, I'm hormonal and getting very grumpy with dh! He wants to get on with the knocking walls down which is fine but he never properly clears a space first to stop things getting covered in dust 🤷‍♀️ it drives me crazy. Consequently my laundry whitening sheets are ruined which I realise is no big deal really but arrrrrggghhhh.

Going to have lunch now and try not to LMS for the rest of the day to make up for this morning BlushBlush

SingToTheSky · 29/12/2020 13:15

Just having pulled pork from the freezer for lunch with some salad bits, I forgot how yummy it was! Will definitely make it again (but with mustard powder not normal mustard due to gluten traces). I should’ve frozen it in smaller portions. I took it out of the freezer last night to make room for some of the sausage stew, and this morning took chicken wings out for dinner to fit the last bit in! I feel a bit more organised but it all takes me such a long time, it’s quite embarrassing really.

I did a short yoga video and have phoned up about my ECG. I’m glad I did as they have changed the rules about drop ins. Although it now means I have to go twice in order to drop my form off first Confused

HillsBesideTheSea · 29/12/2020 14:43

No flying done
no study done
But i have moved. Might not be able to move for the rest of the week but it was a lovely long walk.
Unfortunately snow almost all gone

Sorry you are feeling so low ED yay for dd surviving and not having much more isolation left.
Ours will come down on the 3rd . Sing makes for fresh start with school study etc going back on the 4th. So far ds' school is determined his year will be the year in on the 4th. We'll see what the govt throws in ways of curve balls.
Foxes It is ok to not be motivated and just do what you gotta do. Building work is the worst for motivation zapping, this is an odd odd year and it is ok to not be all zippy and rocking the motivation thing. Be kind to yourself.

for that it is hard when you have to say not now, but in my experience sometimes it works out for the best. You will do better in the long run by not working to the death in the short run. But it is a very very hard thing in the moment.

RIght bath because my lazy ass muscles have not done that much exercise in one go for nearly 2 years and right now they be a hatin'

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/12/2020 15:54

Just sticking head in
Not checked all pages, just this one.

Ed lil zoo been self isolating, should end 11.59 tonight, but given her friendship group are all positive now (first definitive Xmas day, last this morning) we opt to test.postal one for her and dd2 as we're sharing room til order to self isolate occurred.shes been on sofa opposite me(about 2 metre apart!)they were posted back yesterday.had no symptoms -2 days had a blocked nose on waking but could smell.2mates lost smell,2just had runny nose, not sure why other 2 tested(maybe like us and thought fuck it rather just know)one familymum has hodgkinsons, dad's over 50(second marriage) and they both not too good.rimaey age sister has had no symptoms but tested positive too.seems mains symptoms do NOT apply to many kids who have it
Lots phone calls,kahoot/laptop games, phone chats.shesnormally quite insular so ok with it.we haven't done Xmas, waiting for all this crap to be sorted

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/12/2020 15:57

DS on verge breakdown,dd2 too
I'm not much better
Keep everything crossed for us!(only glimmers of hope is she only does 2hr a day, others were in for 6 and did group class selfies at end,and 4 were all sharing food!)

HillsBesideTheSea · 29/12/2020 15:58

zoo hang in there lovely. You are in all our thoughts and we are all hoping Lil Zoo is ok.

foxessocks · 29/12/2020 15:59

sing yoga sounds good, I really need to get back into some exercise, I'm in a real slump right now!

Hills thank you Smile I'm trying to tell myself to treat this week as a holiday and cut myself some slack. Back to work next week and that will help me back into a routine.

Ta das
Went to shops
LOL (not hung up yet as washing machine is in amongst the building work oh dh needs to get it for me!)
Washing up
Dishwasher
Found a place for new dessert bowls
Decluttered a kitchen cupboard, wiped out and put stuff back neatly
Decluttered two shelves in kitchen, wiped etc
Deep cleaned 1 kitchen side, windowsill, coffee machine and sink
Cleaned dd toy buggy wheels from where she had taken it to the park yesterday
Cleaned ds new ball and stomp rocket as they had also got muddy and he wanted to play with them indoors today (it's a small ball I'm not crazy!)
Helped ds with his new wipe clean writing pad
Got stuff out of the freezer for dinner today and tomorrow

The kids have watched far too much TV today!

foxessocks · 29/12/2020 16:02

Oh and emptied kitchen bin, took all the recycling out (and there was a lot!)

X post zoo fingers crossed for negative test results 🤞

ExpensivelyDecorated · 29/12/2020 16:20

Oh Zoo what a worry. Everything crossed for prompt, negative results for both girls. My DD doesn't know who her positive contact was (it was swimming club and could have been any of about 10 in her squad) so can't assess how close she was etc. No symptoms at all yet but she still has 3 days to go.

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/12/2020 17:25

ed class watts ap group broke the news .we know who case 1 was.her whole family dropped.not close friend lil zoo.she tested positive on 21st.by 25th there were two more and each day more have added to the list.maybe more as I'm confident some have probably got it but no symptoms.had it not been for her cancer the mum we know wouldn't have tested her DD for a runny nose.i found out this afternoon they were taking whole class selfies just before they left for Xmas hol!even teacher was in ithow stupid was that?!

I really think it's opened my eyes to how easily it spreads.

HazelNuttyElf · 29/12/2020 18:07

zoo it's good to hear from you. Fingers crossed 🤞 for negative results.

I'm so tired today, already had a nap and it's only 11am! I did get 2 LOLs going already though. I have a hair appt at 1pm, so really should see what I can get done before then. I'm thinking I might have to make me another cup of coffee though (that would be my third cup of the day).

Bowerbird5 · 29/12/2020 19:20

So sorry for you Zoo& ED hope negative results. Only DS2 has had to be tested x4 with regards to his work. It makes me so annoyed that his lodger has put him at risk by going into Tier 4 London as we are still in Tier2.
Sing mine won’t be coming down until Twelfth Night.

I have also been for a walk. ( litter pick) and we collected one black bag full and one half full of bottles. On way to city outskirts we noticed two pieces of rubbish where we cleaned less than an hour earlier. 🤬we will get them tomorrow as we plan to do the next leg. We will have a rest then as it is forecast snow.
Foxes he sounds like my DH as long as they are getting it done not noticing they are wrecking something else.

Ta Das
LoL and some dried.
Sorting a BRC
Fed freezing hens, cracked the ice.
Saved a toad that lives in the garden by cracking the water trough so he could get out. I thought he was dead but as I broke the ice he had a whole lot of tiny bubbles and his legs started to move. We have a few toads over the years and they inevitably give me a fright in the garden when I am weeding by jumping out. There was a baby one in summer. I rather like them.
Put some washing away.
Wiped worktops.
Marzipaned DS3 cake. Ice later.
Put potatoes in to bake

SingToTheSky · 29/12/2020 20:00

Zoo 💐

I asked the caglets when they’d like the tree down and DD1 said she’d like to keep it up til twelfth night so that is what we will do :) TBH, the getting it down ASAP is a hangover from our previous house, it was so tiny that getting the space back was necessary! But actually here we do have the room to leave it up and enjoy it a bit longer :)

Teaching was good (wondering how much longer it will be allowed for given the new announcement tomorrow...) but I’ve got so unfit over the last few weeks, I was knackered walking up the hill 😳

My tutor marked my assignment today and it was all ready to be signed off with no changes other than one typo so I’m absolutely chuffed about that. Couple of days off now, I want to finish my futurelearn course by the end of the month (yes I’m really obsessed with finishing things by new year 😳 I love a fresh start!)
