Hi everyone. I have name changed as I have shared photos with family and friends and I don't want them knowing my usual name.

I have been stuck at home with lousy weather and self- isolation due to colleague getting COVID. I have depression so it's not been the best time tbh. I do have restless energy and can't settle on things so it's taken me absolutely ages to get things done but I have done some decluttering.

I am a teacher and I had loads of paperwork at home. In the end, I got rid of 9 cm height of paper for recycling plus a smaller pile for shredding, lots of envelopes and plastic wallets which I will take back to school. It took me all day and the next to sort this lot out.

I watched the Home Edit recently so I put my cookbooks in a rainbow.

I do have a confession to make - the rest of my house is a mess but I wanted to share my small successes. I will add more photos as I go on.

I just love your cookbooks! That's on my list to do the same tomorrow. They look fab OP!

Needmorechocolate · 31/10/2020 22:37

Oooo I love the rainbow idea for the books

FatControIIer · 01/11/2020 06:17

Nice!
The ministry of food spine looks black? Might look better behind the browns. I love a good declutter. There are facebook decluttering groups you might like.

WhereIsMyMojoGone · 01/11/2020 09:01

Fat Controller. - I know but it’s a very dark green. I have 🤔 and 🧐 at that one for ages and tried both positions but it doesn’t work on either. Maybe I should just get rid. Smile

I’m not on Facebook.

I forgot to show you what I was left with for the school paperwork!

Amazing progress! Bet you feel so much lighter.

WhereIsMyMojoGone · 02/11/2020 11:35

@Miaowse

Amazing progress! Bet you feel so much lighter.
Thank you, Miaowse. I do feel better. The pile of shredding is sitting there and looking at me accusingly though - my shredder is hopeless as it cuts out after 3 or 4 minutes and then takes ages to cool down again. Ugh!

On a happier note, I should have more photos to post by the end of the end as I plan to do more de-cluttering.

Ooh, love this OP. I remember a thread like this from a few years ago where a Mumsnetter had decluttered and Marie Kondoed her loft so that it was all these neat plastic boxes all stacked on top of each other. Very inspiring!

dooratheexplorer · 05/11/2020 09:22

Well done @WhereIsMyMojoGone

What have you got planned for today?

I've made a start on one of the bedrooms with a plan to turn it into an office/craft room for me. Still have lots to do but it did make me feel better as there is more space already. Also, ebaying a few things which is going well.

WhereIsMyMojoGone · 05/11/2020 20:43

Thank you @PantyhoseAndRoses -yes, there's something immensely therapeutic about organising your space but also seeing other people's organised space. I was on the original Marie Kondo thread and posted some pictures but 4(?) years on, I felt I needed to re-do it all, although I have much less stuff than I did 4 years ago. I have certain black spots that I struggle with.

Paper work is the biggest black spot for me so, even though I'm back at work, I've been working on more paperwork, this time the personal stuff and even bought new stuff to file it all away in. I have finished but I need to go through the paperwork again to see if there is any more I can cull.

@dooratheexplorer I hope you have taken before pictures! And maybe even mid-way pictures. If you're up to it, please post before and after pics as it's always inspiring. I hope you are enjoying the process as well as thinking of the end result.

I love your rainbow cookbooks! I kondoed a while ago and put my wardrobe into colour order - absolutely loved it but need to redo. Might do that at the weekend to start again and post pics.

WhereIsMyMojoGone · 06/11/2020 18:56

Here are pics 3 kitchen cupboards. The savoury cupboard, includes everything apart from oils and the 10kg bag of rice. The crockery cupboard, although I have changed the top shelf as it’s not practical to put our day to day plates there. I have 2 frying pans there instead. Not ideal but they have nowhere else to go. Finally, a mishmash of stuff cupboard. Top shelf: baking, middle shelf: Tupperware (and slow cooker behind), bottom shelf: electric aids. The Tupperware is in plastic boxes For easy pull out. I don’t have a lot.

The site doesn’t like my photos and won’t let me upload them. Will try later or tomorrow.

The rainbow of books makes me so happy!

MadauntofA · 07/11/2020 06:59

I like your tea set Whereismymojogone!

ChampagneCommunist · 07/11/2020 09:57

I'm doing my kitchen too! One cupboard and two big drawers left.

Trouble is, unless you open all the cupboard door, nothing looks different from the outside.

But, I do have empty spaces now, which makes me very happy

WhereIsMyMojoGone · 07/11/2020 10:16

torthecatlady yes, I agree and so simple to do. It’s been very popular.

MadauntofA thank you. It belonged to my mum and it used to come out for guests. She knew I always liked it so gave them to me.

ChampagneCommunist well done! But it’s a real joy to open the cupboard and to see it all clean and tidy. A little like opening a present for yourself.

All drawers & cupboards in the kitchen done. Next weekend is a deep clean of the cupboard doors, windows & skirting boards in there.

Yes, my mother is coming for Christmas.

Bowerbird5 · 09/11/2020 10:05

WhereisMyMojoGone brilliant. I resigned recently and had about five bags of paperwork to shred, burn and recycle. I noticed some more in a file but haven’t dealt with it yet. Great decluttering. I am feeling more like doing it now I have made the decision.

I also like art and craft and need to declutter some of that.

The recipe books look great as do the cupboards. I love you Portmerion bowl. My breakfast bowl was Portmerion but I broke it a few months ago. Very tidy cupboards too. I did my Hall last week and very pleased how tidy it is. Need to do a lot more.

CommanderBurnham · 10/11/2020 12:15

Can I join??? I will post my successes and my paperwork pile. Would love some company.

WhereIsMyMojoGone · 10/11/2020 20:37

Of course, CommanderBurnham the more the merrier and I love to see before and after pics.

Well done ChampagneCommunist Super work - you finished the inside cupboard stuff. You seem highly motivated and working hard at de-cluttering and now cleaning the rest of the kitchen. I hope it's sparkling by the weekend and brings you joy. Glad to hear you have a tidy hall - lovely to come into from a chilly outside I bet.

Bowerbird5 Thank you for your positive words, it all helps. It's wonderful to be able to make a life changing decision, such as giving up your job volunatarily and be happy about it. It makes a positive difference to one's well-being and it motivates to start changing other aspects of your life. I recently went for the decision to change from f/t to part-time work and my mood has lifted - I didn't realise how much I was ground down. A healthier work-life balance is so important. I have craved time for myself for so long and feel a bit giddy with being at home, doing my thing. My Portmerion bowl was a wedding present, it has lasted longer than the marriage! Wink

"Glad to hear you have a tidy hall - lovely to come into from a chilly outside I bet." This was for Bowerbird5 - not sure how the sentence jumped up to the paragraph above.

Home paper filing finished at last. I am very happy. I did buy new files and a box to stash things. It's a boring cardboard colour but jazzed up slightly with pretty washi tape for the labels. I love washi tape. Smile

It all feels calm and serene and the best thing is, it's all very organised inside the folders too. I have envelopes and cards in the acrylic letter holder. Hadn't quite realised how many envelopes I had.
