Hi everyone. I have name changed as I have shared photos with family and friends and I don't want them knowing my usual name.

I have been stuck at home with lousy weather and self- isolation due to colleague getting COVID. I have depression so it's not been the best time tbh. I do have restless energy and can't settle on things so it's taken me absolutely ages to get things done but I have done some decluttering.

I am a teacher and I had loads of paperwork at home. In the end, I got rid of 9 cm height of paper for recycling plus a smaller pile for shredding, lots of envelopes and plastic wallets which I will take back to school. It took me all day and the next to sort this lot out.

I watched the Home Edit recently so I put my cookbooks in a rainbow.

I do have a confession to make - the rest of my house is a mess but I wanted to share my small successes. I will add more photos as I go on.
@Heartofstrings Sounds wonderful! If you ever consider expanding the group, think of me 😉
Noooo don't all be running off & making/expanding groups. It makes MN much less interesting!! (Selfish I know).

@WhereIsMyMojoGone. You've done really well!!

@Nuffaluff

if it wasn't for COVID I'd happily come & do that for you, it's the kind of thing/space I love doing!!

My 'sticking points' are sentimental things (which to be fair is most everything!! I'm attached to the most banal stuff!!) I'm good with sorting tidying food/kitchen stuff/stationery & clothes.

Tackled DC's cupboard this morning.

The pencil pots are re-used soup pots from the chilled section of a supermarket and other containers are fruit punnets and a Fererro Rocher plastic box. The paper is in a letter holder.

Mega impressed OP. Just looked at your pictures and it’s given me a kick up the arse to sort paperwork and the plastic shit mountains DS creates everywhere he goes.

WhereIsMyMojoGone · 15/11/2020 11:58

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants 😊

I only have a couple of cupboards in the kitchen left to do. I'm lucky that I have a lot of cupboards and not really all that much stuff. The awkward L-shaped corner cupboard is now empty.

@Onekidnoclue Don't talk to me about DC and their plastic. My DC's Lego is everywhere. No Lego allowed in our bedroom but because it's such a calm space with a super king bed, guess where they like to play and then leave their builds? Grrr Smile. Anyway, it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to think I've kickstarted your organisational/decluttering bug.

@CommanderBurnham, how are you getting on? Or have you not started yet?

Am building up to the pig sty that is DD's room

Nuffaluff · 15/11/2020 15:10

Here are some after pics. I’m quite pleased but have ordered some more clever storage boxes.
The first one shows we have bought too many crisps!

Nuffaluff · 15/11/2020 15:11

First one

Nightmare drawer restored to some sort of order, but still stuff in there that should probably be somewhere else

Oh @Nuffaluff I have that exact same butcher’s block in my kitchen; the top is such a clutter magnet. Yours looks great & I love that you use it for items that belong in a kitchen - mine is full of random crap Blush

WhereIsMyMojoGone · 15/11/2020 16:50

@Nuffaluff That looks SO much better. A big difference indeed. Amazing work Nuffaluff and the new storage boxes will make it even more top notch. Remember a pic when you've got them in situ. Tea towels and dusters look very organised and the everyday drawer (The Spruce website says we shouldn't call it a junk drawer and I think I agree) looking better too. Crisps! It's either feast or famine in this house so very relatable.

@Miaowse I think we all have one of those. Mine is a kitchen countertop. It's a constant battle.

Have to get on with some school work now. Ugh!

Nuffaluff · 15/11/2020 16:56

I know @Miaowse. Mine is about 15 years old. We call it ‘the IKEA thing’, although most of our furniture could be called that.
Thanks @WhereIsMyMojoGone I feel quite proud.
I feel great when I walk past it...

Nuffaluff · 15/11/2020 16:57

But then I immediately come upon this😂

Nuffaluff · 15/11/2020 16:58

And I sink back into a pit of despair.
I did just do this though.
Cobwebs gone!

Nuffaluff · 15/11/2020 17:01

And this one. Stuff we use most often at the front. I condensed three areas: the drinks nightmare shelf, the jenga Tupperware cupboard of doom and the random cupboard of nothing that ever sees the light of day into two cupboards.
Most of the last one went in the bin/ recycling.

Hello all- stumbled across this thread and it's really helpful. Going to watch the home edit, then post if I actually manage to do anythingGrinGrin

WhereIsMyMojoGone · 15/11/2020 18:50

@Peachypips78 Enjoy Home Edit and yes, please do come back.

@Nuffaluff Did you not have a little tipple while organising the drinks cupboard? Looks fab by the way, as does the Tupperware cupboard. The big shelving unit lives in your kitchen? It's a great space to put all your stuff in. My fingers are itching to get at it :) What is the stuff at the top of the shelf towards the wall, I can't make it out?

OP posts:
Nuffaluff · 15/11/2020 19:12

The stuff in the corner?
It’s just piles and piles and piles of stuff, including two of my DH’s childhood board games. Downfall and Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs. We have another pile of those in another corner.
@Peachypips78 I’ve now watched a couple of Home Edit things on YouTube!

Nuffaluff · 15/11/2020 19:13

It’s actually the diner, which joins to the kitchen.

CommanderBurnham · 15/11/2020 21:22

@WhereIsMyMojoGone I've made a start on the playroom! Unfortunately things have had to get worse before they'll get better, and diwali has delayed things. Back on it this week though.

Got a whole pile of toys that I need to check for completeness before they are donated/ebay'd.

Well done everyone, you are inspiring!

pengymum · 15/11/2020 21:46

Hi! Impressive results! I like Home Edit too. And rainbow organisation!
I have been decluttering over the past few months but didn’t take pics.
What I have done is to use boxes on cupboard shelves as are easier to pull out & see what is inside rather than have to get down & take stuff out bit by bit to get to the back.
I got mostly drawer units in my kitchen and now use large plastic boxes in any cupboards. I subdivided these with other boxes into smaller spaces.Easier to pull out & see what you have & pick out what you need. Label as much as possible. Also less likely to try & stuff things in that don’t belong if labelled!
My wardrobe is loosely colour coded and I have used the thinner velvet hangers as my old wooden ones took up too much room.
I got multi hangers that hang down to get more in. Can’t get rid of too many clothes atm as I am losing weight and now fitting into stuff I haven’t been able to fit into for years! So will get rid of stuff as I slim to lower size. But it’s very slow! 😏
Also saw something recently that I am going to do, once I have the right sized ziplock bags is throw away board game boxes & put the boards & cards etc in ziplock bags so easily stored. The original boxes are all different shapes and take up too much room. Hope to be able to fit our games into a couple of baskets!

LemonBreeland · 16/11/2020 09:31

This thread inspired me to finally declutter the one place in the house that I have put off forever. The 'man drawer' as named by Michael McIntyre. It was just a pile of cray to the brim, screws ,screwdrivers, batteries, birthday candles etc. It now has little trays in with items separated and it doesn't give me anxiety to open it.
