Just opening the new thread while I have a chance! All welcome here, join in with the housework chat, the keep calm corner and general ramblings about life in lockdown!
Any of us have been here a long time so we may seem cliquey but it’s never intentional - newbies and returners are always welcome.

lane agree with history in order.activity shouldn't need to be group sports as mine HATE that but will cycle/walk for hours...
I'd like to see more life skills taught,in my day we had to sew a button on,launder a shirt, change a fuse, budget a meal as part home economics..

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 20/04/2020 10:19

Morning all! Thanks, Lane for pointers today - I've done the basics again but spread the home bleugh over the week.

zoo very much agree about teaching life skills, although I suppose that's also a parent's job. All of mine can sew enough to mend stuff and cook enough not to starve. Budgeting has stuck with differing success depending on the child and their inherited attitude to money! (I would always naturally know how much money I had and where it was going, to the penny. DH is always naturally £20 into his overdraft, no matter how much he has coming in!).

Today we are back on it as school is back in.

💖 S&S
🧡 LOL in
💛 windows open
💚 DW rotated and kitchen wiped down
💙 lunch and dinner planned and food out of freezer
💜 downstairs hoovered while DH walked the dog
🖤 DS3 and DD up and into lessons
💖 Kitchen in-tray emptied and decommissioned - it just encourages us to Put Stuff Down
🧡 Shredding in the shredding pile
💛 Stuff for tip pile / garage storage brought downstairs
💚 DS2 poked awake
💙 me washed, dressed, healthful breakfast, all meds (even the boring vitamins I often skip!)
💜 quick tidy of boudoir (surface stuff only!)

Still to do:
📌 Poke DS2 again
📌 BuJo planning
📌 HS planning
📌 LOL onto line and 2nd one in
📌 Maked packed lunches
📌 Remember DS3 has an extra lesson at 12.40
📌 Get everyone outside
📌 Clean dog food area
📌 Make beds
📌 Speak to DS1 and 2 about not having loud phone conversations at 2am because it wakes everyone up and then we are all grumpy!
📌 Do DS3's Kung Fu grading form with him
📌 Financial stuff - pay Tesco card, milk bill, OT bill
📌 Print OT stuff for kitchen display
📌 Get DS2's parcel posted (print postage and stuff in letter box)
📌 Process and print some census information to finish client work
📌 Contact printer about big family tree printing
📌 Filing from intray
📌 Confirm the plan for DD's Latin lesson

Give, I'm really pleased to see you're planning some family history with the DC. It's a great accessible handle to hang some kings-and-dates history on, that they can relate to their own lives.

That, you seem to be doing enormously well keeping everyone home schooled!

Stressy, KT we are all hoping it's going well for you.

Yes I’m so torn about the life skills thing. I think on balance it is probably better to teach it in school, even if for some children that would be unnecessary.

In my secondary school we took half a term to make a sandwich and another to do a pasta dish 🧐 not literally of course (imagine the mould! 🤢) but in terms of all the paperwork, planning etc. And yes the paperwork is important but this was ridiculous. The way my DSCs’ school did it was much better - I think they spent two weeks on one dish, planning first then making, then evaluating. They learned so much more.

Definitely agree on needing more sport than just team games. Mine do much better with individual stuff.

Definitely on a go slow this morning, DD1 is not happy about getting up but we’ve been through the rules and said we will have to get used to them even if we are a bit behind time this week while we adjust.

DH's 40th birthday has finally arrived. Our day started at half 6 with a very excited DD coming in to our room. We've done presents, the video montage of his family and friends wishing him a happy birthday which he really liked, and we've played pass the parcel, because DD instead.

Then we had a bit of a disaster. DH went for a shower and the water immediately poured through the kitchen ceiling on to the cooker. Shock It looks like a mouse has chewed a hole through a rubber tube and that's caused a major leak. Poor DH had to shower in the bath and we are now trying to dry the cooker as much as possible. The water drenched the plug socket so I'm not sure if the cooker is safe to use. Bit of an obstacle as our next birthday activity was to bake the cake!

Here's a photo of the birthday poster we made. DD drew daddy surrounded by three kisses (not crosses Grin )

LaneBoy · 20/04/2020 13:04

Afternoon all. Still running a bit behind but to be expected with such a terribly tired 12yo 🙄 unfortunately the melatonin doesn’t have such a strong effect lately so even though she was back on it yesterday she didn’t sleep much.

💙printed and laminated rules/schedule/chores and discussed with the Caglets
💜looked at some google classroom stuff with DD1 and discussed vague plan for today
💙supervised DS with English and maths
💜quick workout while the others went on a walk
💙printed a crapload of learning stuff for the Caglets (definitely need to increase instant ink subscription and remember to do double sided where possible to save paper)
💙found some videos on zentangles (art work for DD1 but we are all going to join in!) and acid rain

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 20/04/2020 13:37

Oh lane I tried to explain zentangle to D's and dd2 last week and they just looked blankly at me,I didn't think there would be videos how to

Tada
Surfaces scrubbed and disinfected
Half washing up done
Floor swept

Fed little ones-tuna salad wraps(salad lose term -left over slightly bendy carrot grated, bendy pepper diced, sugar snap peas, slightly wrinkly tomato skin and diced)crisps and last blueberry muffins
I had crinkle chips last two days and now all gone I craving more so made sweet potato wedges with salt pepper and mix herbs on to serve with veggie sausages and piles roasted broccoli with garlic (for dd2 and I)

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/04/2020 13:38

Doing ok so far thank you, a bit behind schedule though and keeping DD1 on track is hard. She does much better with motivation from others. Having said that DS is actually on track despite a really bad start, which gives me hope that we can push it a bit once we are back in the swing of things.

We are just watching the BBC stuff which is a little different to what I thought, as more of the work is on the website once you’ve watched the video to give you a rough idea IYSWIM. But I don’t want to spring that on him - he would be most annoyed if we added something new partway through the day. I think from now on we will have to watch the programme in the morning and then I can incorporate the online stuff after lunch.

As it is we’ve managed the list a little early, except we decided to only do half a chapter as DS can’t concentrate that long. But he did happily read some out himself so that’s good.

Yup he’s Isaac, I never expected to choose that name but there I was in late pregnancy, we already knew he was a boy, and I was watching some chat show when they had Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) on and I was like oh yeah, I like the name Isaac, and that was it, the name stuck!

Must now get DD1 to do some maths 🙄

Just catching up, chic that unicyclist 😱 DS made us laugh though as he said he hoped he didn’t fall on the others as they’d be Ant and Dead 😳

So tired. Gave DD1 a little longer to chat to friends as she’d spent ages playing with Cagletini earlier waiting for DH to return so I could help with maths. Now a little family time

Oh zoo i am so glad you got a slot

I had one from iceland couple days ago, around £12 of stuff just didnt come and about 5 items substituted so maybe wise to over order a bit if budget allows it

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 20/04/2020 18:57

Fwiw my things that didnt come were frozen pizzas, cereal and some jars of sauces

Slychomping · 20/04/2020 19:22

Just diving in to say REALLY great you got a shopping slot Zoo and you don't have to (at least this time) drag heavy bags home!!! Yo-haaaaa! Flowers [tea] Cake

Congrats zoo!

Cake for those who are homeschooling, it sounds really tough.

Our day has been very nice, despite leak - our house is old and weird, there's always something going wrong with it but we still love it for the rambling wild garden.

No flying today except lol and dish washing. But we did get the oven plug socket dried and baked the birthday cake...although it's still cooling now so we wont be decorating and eating until tomorrow. (DD doesn't want to miss out!)

Now we are going to video call some friends and drink whisky. Hope you all have a good evening, and get to chill out a bit.

LaneBoy · 20/04/2020 19:48

Aaah zoo I’m so pleased for you!

❤️enforced family time for a bit - tried playing games but was impossible with Cagletini! Was still fun though and at least we had a bit of time together without screens
💙bit of time on the bench in the garden while DD1 helped DH with dinner as per the chore chart
❤️20 min walk by myself, went a bit faster than usual, lovely and peaceful though

Cagletini has just dozed off so hoping when DD1 is off FaceTime we can try the zentangle thing.

Have caught up on the thread, glad to see more people back! My brain is about to implode from the day so please forgive lack of personals. 😳

Oh FFS, I am here to claim my crown as Miss Minor Domestic Injury 2020.

Not content with the blister I gave myself early last week, cleaning too much (clearly A Message From The Universe), on Thursday I sliced the pad of my left thumb at right angles to my thumb nail. Not seriously, just enough for it to split and start bleeding again every time I used it over the weekend.

This evening I grabbed a pan handle that turned out to be roasting hot and have toasted a neat pan-handle-mark into my little finger. I'm really hoping that's the Third Thing because I don't think this is sustainable otherwise!

Well done on getting a delivery, zoo. I'm going to bed before I hurt anyone!
